Info on fillable forms and usage rights settings

I have created several different forms in Acrobat 8 and saved the forms on multiple office computers for employees to fill out. My first question: I have enabled the user rights to be able to fill-in, print and save completed forms.  I am wondering if there is a way that when save as is used and they save the completed form, that this is their only option.  Right now, if they fill it out and hit save instead of save as, it will save their filled form but will overwrite my original form file???
My second question: Once my employees have saved their filled form, when they go to email this filled form to a client, is there a setting to make the file they send read only?
I thought on my second question that maybe there was a way to save the filled form as read only, but ive had no luck figuring out how.  On the first question, I have no clue so any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

This free JavaScript-based tool for Acrobat is what you need: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/
The Typewriter tool creates a type of text box, so you'd select just that check box to flatten them.

  • I need to create a fillable form and then generate a reports.

Hello everybody. I need to create a fillable form and then generate a report using numbers. You know, for example if you have customers, I need to be able to write the usual , name, last name, address, and some other details and then using a standard letter I would like the form to be able to populate these fields automatically in a standard pre formatted letter by our company and then be able to print it.
Any help to point me in the right direction I would appretiate very much.
I have iwork 9 installed in my macbook pro

This is acalled a mail merge and is solved using a combination of Numbers (or address book) and Pages.  To get detailed help how to performa a mail merge start in Pages, then in the help menu type Mail Merge:

  • When creating a fillable form and saving it as a pdf, the default color of the data fields is a light blue. How do I change the color to something else that will copy better, e.g. a light yellow?

When creating a fillable form and saving it as a pdf, the default color of the data fields is a light blue. How do I change the color to something else that will copy better, e.g. a light yellow?

It's probably the fields highlight color of the application, which you can change via Edit - Preferences - Forms.

  • How can I compress a large fillable form with extended rights?

    Hello:
I have about 15 fillable PDF s that I created in LiveCycle ES2. One form is 37,616 kb and takes forever to download from the web. I attempted to zip the file, but when I tested it, text could no longer be saved after it was unzipped (the forms have extended rights as users need to be able to enter in a save text they enter into it). Does anyone have any suggestions re: how I might be able to compress my PDF file, while still being able to maintain the ability to enable savable text (extended rights)?

Just tried it here and it worked fine ....are you sure you zipped the Reader Extended version of the form?

  • Dropdown List and Usage Rights in Adobe Reader

    Hi everyone!
The problem is: I can't save data when I open my form in Adobe Reader 7, even if I apply usage rights in Acrobat Professional before.
But in Adobe Reader 8, it works!
    Can anyone help me, please?
I designed a form into Livecycle with a drop-down-list dynamically populated from a data source (XML file).
After the design be done, I opened the form in Acrobat Professional and attach the XML file by the menu "Forms > Manage form data > import data".
Then I apply usage rights in Acrobat, to enable saving in Reader.
As I said, it works fine in Reader 8: I can choose any item from drop-down-list and save the form. But in Reader 7, it doesn't.
    Thanks in advance.
    Diego

    OK, here you go.

  • Fillable Forms and Distribution : Flatten Author's text but not Form Fields

Ok folks, first time posting on this forum though definitely not my first time searching for answers!  I've been pretty successful with other questions though I think I've stumped myself on this one.
I've created a "generic" Fillable Form that I will be using to distribute to various contacts for certain upcoming projects that we will be participating in.  Because each project will be different, instead of having to create a new form each time, I am hoping that with my base model form I can input various information with the type writer tool and somehow protect this information from being edited/deleted while still allowing my contacts to input their information within the form fields.
I've tried applying different variations of the security features, but the drawback of doing this is that it will not allow me to "distribute" my form so that it can be track with Adobe Tracker.  The only way I can succefully distribute this form to the masses and track responses is if all security settings for the document are turned off.
I hope this all makes sense how I'm explaining it.  Because the information (not the form fields) on the document being sent out is changing every week, I was hoping there would be an easier way other than creating an entirely new Fillable Form for each.  I'm not an expert with Actions but would it be possible to create an Action that would "Flatten" the type writer text only?  That would at least prevent others from manipulating or deleting the information I have placed on the document.

  • Unable to read info on fillable form created in Acrobat Pro XI

I created a fillable form using Acrobat XI Pro that our office staff use.  Our field staff cannot view the information on the fillable fields from their mobile devices.  They can from their laptops and computers - Mac or Window.  I just got off the phone with Support and I was told that this is still under "testing" and that they are not supporting it at this time.  I just updated from Acrobat 9 Pro and did not have this kind of problem before. Can you confirm that there is no solution at this time?

What PDF viewer are they using on the mobile devices? It won't work with the default viewer for iOS for example, because it does not support forms. Adobe Reader for iOS and Android have limited support for forms, while other PDF viewers have more or less than Reader.

  • I've made a fillable form and need javascript assistance

I've created a fillable form (for internal company use) and would like certain fields to auto fill based on what other field values are.
Here is snap shot of the form
Here is an explanation of the table.
The top fillable row: model = user fill in model; Serial No. = user fill in serial no.; DOP = user fill in DOP; Warranty = user select valid or void (combo box)
Fillable row under "IDX Diagnostics/warranty/parts/labor/qty/cost/total/action/date complete": IDX Diagnostics = user fillable diagnostics; warranty = user select valid or void (combo box); parts/labor = user fill in parts/labor time; qty = user enter a number; cost = user enter a number; total = auto fills based on qty * cost; action = user selects repair/no repair; date complete = user fills in date.
The "total cost" field adds up all the totals.
Here is what i'd like to accomplish
    1. When the second "warranty" (combo box) is set to "Valid", i'd like the total cost value to be $0 no matter what
    2. When the action is set to "no repair", i'd like the total for that row to be $0 and override the qty*cost value.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks!

Which program are you using? If you are using Livecycle Designer you can use the Action Builder to make your fields do what you want based on user selection. If you are interested in this there is a good tutorial here:

  • How good is the new Adobe Reader IOS for fillable forms and interactive pdfs?

At last adobe reader for ios has been updated so now fillable forms can be completed on ipad/iphone but how good is it?
I've tested a form and reset form/print form and save as buttons do not seem to work.
Form submit seems ok, just wondered what others thought?
Also the new Adobe Reader IOS is now able to display interactive pdfs with buttons such as go to next page etc yet page transitions do not work? Again whats everyone elses opinion on the reader ios update?

My preliminary experience is that Reader does better with forms than with interactivity.
I've written a couple postings on InDesignSecrets.com about PDF readers for tablets. Here's the latest one:
Finding the Best Tablet PDF Reader
You should also check out PDF Expert (US $9.99) which handles interactivity better than Reader if that is important to you.

  • Help needed creating a fillable form and emailing it.

I'm new to all this and have no clue where to start.  If there is a document that lays out how to do this, a link to it would work.  I need to create 2 fillable forms.  1 will need a submit button and once you click submit, it automatically sends the form.  The 2nd one will need to allow the end user to select to whom the document is to go to.  I think it will have to open an email message to do this, but I'm not sure.  Please advise.

It's probably the fields highlight color of the application, which you can change via Edit - Preferences - Forms.

  • Fillable Forms and Excel

    Hey there,
I'm new to these forums, so maybe this problem has already been addressed.
I've got about 800 PDF forms that we're trying to create about various property information.  That information exists in GIS software in a .dbf format, and I converted it to an excel spreadsheet.  I've got a fillable PDF that I would love to populate automatically with that data from excel, but so far I'm only able to do that 1 document at a time by creating tab delimited text files (and only after exporting form data as a .txt file and saving the excel data as the same name).  Acrobat is pretty robust, so I assume there's a pretty easy solution here.  Anybody have any ideas?
    Josh

  • Adobe Interactive Forms and WDA - Right click and submit

    Hi guys,
We're developing some OnLine Adobe Intercative Form.
For each module we have one submit button that sends all data to SAP system.
Every module uses ZCI Layout and Native WebDynpro Library but when someone clicks on the submit button, also with right mouse button, it starts a submit event and after it opens a WDA's menu, from where, someone could accidentally hide a Adobe Form in his browser session!
So, I would like to know how we can disable this functionality and also how I can have a "hide reader toolbar" in my pallette inside Adobe liveCycle Designer 7.1.
    Regards,
    Antonello

Interactive Forms support two types of attachments:
    1) Attachments as comments
    - Interactive PDF Forms generated by the Adobe Document Services (ADS) in SAP turn on by default the commenting/annotations toolbar in Adobe Reader. You can then select "Attach a file as a comment" to attach a file anywhere on the page.
    - This is available since the first release of Interactive Forms
    - These attachments cannot be handled  (e.g. detached) automatically on the server. You can use it to archive the PDF with the attachments or to open the form in Acrobat or Reader and open them on the client.
    - Like any annotation functionality this does not work for dynamic interactive PDF forms (PDF forms which can dynamically grow/shrink in the client)
    2) Document Level Attachments
    - This is available with NW04S SPS10 and higher.
    - To attach a document select Menu -> Document -> Attach a File in Reader
    - Attachments can be manipulated/detached on the server using custom Java or ABAP code with the PDFDocument Object... Here is the documentation for the Java PDF Document Object (http://help.sap.com/javadocs/NW04S/current/wd/index.html)
    - This works for all types of PDF documents (dynamic and static)
    Cheers,
    Matthias

  • Fillable Forms and Gathering responses

I have created a form in Adobe lifecycle using nothing but subforms since I need expandable fields.  I use distribute but it is giving me the opition of emailing the form. I need to be able to post to form on our website and have people access the form for completion and when they hit submit the responses are sent to electronically.  Not sure how to do this.  I know I can't use Forms Central as if won't let me have the fields that expand based on the amount of text I put in.

If you want help in creating a script to do what you want, then the Acrobat Scripting forum is the place to ask. If you wish to throw a large chunk of change at the problem, there are LiveCycle products that can probably do what you want. It will probably require tens of thousands of dollars, specialized IT staff and a Windows or Unix Server.

  • Setting priorities and usage rights !!

Is there any possibility for the definition of users or user groups to determine their cpu, memory and disk usage while they are connected to a oracle db? One of my users overloaded our database and we could not even login the database to monitor what they are doing, which job is running. So, i want to define users or group of users and i want to determine thier system usage. How can i react to a problem if i can not look at what is going on? a dba must have a top priority and he/she must reach and monitor the db by this priority.

You can limit resource usage from PROFILE assigned to users.
You can assign priorit with consumer groups & policy
