InfoPath 2013 start a workflow

In a new InfoPath 2013 form that uses a custom list, I would like to add a custom button and/or something to click on for the user to eventually 'start a workflow when item changes'.
Right now since I am in the early phase of the process, and it would be fine to 'start the process manually' also. Basically I would like directions on what a user can click to they could start the workflow.
I found the following link and it shows how to start a workflow from the documents library:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afttEV61kQI
I would like to know how to have this same process occur from an InfoPath 2013 form where the user clicks my 'button/item' and does not click on the 'auto generated' save button.

assuming that the workflow should not necessarily start ANY time ANY file changes (which is a default option, and requires no custom dev effort)... what I've seen a few times, is for the form to include a checkbox ("start workflow")... the workflow
starts, and checks for the condition... and stops if the checkbox is not checked.

  • Workflow 2013 start another workflow 2013

In an existing workflow 2013, I need to lower the permission levels of a user so that they can not modify a custom listed after it as been submitted. Thus I am thinking of having he first workflow 2013 start another workflow 2013 before the permission level
of the custom list item is lower.
Thus can you tell me how to do the following:
    1. Have a workflow 2013 start another workflow 2013.
    2. After the first workflow 2013 is started, have the first workflow not expect the 2nd workflow to run any results. The first workflow will basically end right after it lower the permission levels of the user that submitted the custom list to workflow 2013.

  • One Infopath 2013 custom list be access by 2 workflows

When accessing an InfoPath 2013 form that accesses a custom list, I have found that I need to split up an existing workflow 2013 into 2 workflows.  This is due to the workflow 2013 does not contain some features that workflow 2010 contains.
Thus I have the following questions:
    1. Can a workflow 2010 call a workflow 2013? If so, can you tell me how to make this call?
    2. Can  I have the custom list that is accessed and updated by both a workflow 2010 and workflow 2013? If so, can  you tell me how to connect the same custom list to both a workflow 2010 and workflow 2013?

    Hi Wendy,
You can click into the "parameters" and if there are any parameters need to be filled in the 2010 workflow selected , you need to give the values there; and if there is no parameters there, then you just need to click OK.
It depends on the steps in the 2010 workflow.
For "this item", I recommend to select Current Item as the 2010 workflow is created to be associated with the same list as the 2013 workflow.
You can refer to the links for more details about Start a list workflow:

  • SP2013 Customize Workflow Task Form with InfoPath 2013 - Unknown error occurred

    Hi everyone,
After creating "Collect data from user" workflow using SharePoint designer, I need to customize the task form. But when I open the .xsn file (SharePoint generated), without editing anything (for testing purpose), and publish it, I got the message
box: "An unknown error has occurred. The form template has been published to the server but it can only be opened in InfoPath Filler". I test the same scenario in SharePoint 2010, and it worked. It really annoys me.
No exception in the log file, and no solution after much searching around.
    Please help.

    Hi john_d
I got the solution to customize the Workflow task form. We cannot customize the workflow task form from InfoPath 2013, and if some how you are able to publish the task form it then when you publish your workflow then it your workflow will overwrite
the default task form to your customized one.
So the solution for it is that whatever fields you want to add to the task form you can just in "TASK FORM FIELDS" and it will display in your task form when you publish your workflow.

  • Button or checkbox to start a workflow in sharepoint 2013

In my first project for SharePoint 2013, I want a workflow to be manually started by the user due to the way I am using the default buttons generated by SharePoint 2013.
I would like the user manually be able to start a workflow by doing one of the following:
    1. click a button, or
    2. click a check box, or
    3. select an option button.
Thus can you tell me how to 'wire together', connect one of the options I listed above to start a workflow manually?

    Midnight,
THIS IS HOW WORKFLOW CAN BE STARTED MANUALLY
Create a multiple value radio button column and name it WFStart
Create a SPD workflow on item add and edit autometically
Check WFStart value at to as Workflow start condition.
If Yes, proceed with next stage
    If no stop the workflow
    See this link: Workflow
conditions in SharePoint Designer : A quick reference guide
Idea is to start workflow every time but only proceed when radio button column (WFStart) value if yes. No code implementation!

  • Infopath 2013 SOAP Web Service Data Connection - Error: The file is not a valid XML file

Here are the steps to replicate the issue I’m having when adding lists.asmx or any other SharePoint web service in InfoPath 2013. This web service opens fine in the browser from my desktop. My account is a farm administrator and is added to the
web application’s User Policy.  I can use these services just fine using Nintex 2013 Workflow.
    Open InfoPath Designer 2013.
Select Blank Form and click Design Form button.
    Click “Data” tab.
Click “From Web Service” and select “From SOAP Web Service”
Enter https://mysiteurl.com/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL for the web service definition.
    Click Next.
    Windows Security window pops up.
Enter a credential. I tried both my account and the farm account. My account is a farm admin and is added to the web application’s User Policy with Full Control.
Click OK. It prompts for credential multiple times.
I get below this error messages:
    Sorry, we couldn't open https://mysiteurl.com/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL
InfoPath cannot find or cannot access the specified Web Service description.
The file is not a valid XML file.
Not enough storage is available to process this command.
We have a project that is in need of these services using InfoPath so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Brian_TX,
For your issue, try to the following methods:
Change your service binding in web.config to:binding="basicHttpBinding". It seems in VS it defaults to wsHttpBinding.
Replace all instances of "parameters" from the web service wsdl with the name "parameter"

    Dear all,
I am using sharepoint online and infopath 2013, I wonder how do I edit infopath 2013 forms with visual studio? When I try to edit form code it says  I need visual studio 2012 and some other tools, I installed them and visual studio 2013, I wonder how
do I get rid of the message and start coding? Can someone provide a detailed procedure of doing so? I am having trouble with creating multiple items with single infopath form with repeating table on sharepoint online. Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to create InfoPath form with code using Visual Studio.

  • Issue while starting a workflow using a form submission cq5

    Hi,
I have followed the below mentioned tutorial and completed it.
    http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/workflows/create-models.html#par_reference
Once done, I did try to start the workflow using a normal form submission, by giving workflow name in the "Start Workflow" box.
Once clicked it will send the notification to my inbox, and when I double click, the form 1 will be displayed. Once submitted form two will be displayed.
But when I submit the form 2, it thorws the below exception.
But when I start the same workflow using the sidekick, It works perfectly fine. I am guessing that the {payload}.html is not getting set when the WF is initaited by a form submission.
Could you please help with this. Thank you !

  • Start a workflow for a list item that was created by someone else

What settings do I need to change so that I can start a workflow for a list item created by another user?
I have a SharePoint 2013 workflow (let's call it LSR Status Workflow) that is associated with a list (called
LSR List). When a user creates an item in the LSR List, it automatically starts the
LSR Status Workflow. That is what I wanted, but sometimes I make changes to the workflow (via SharePoint designer) and then I would want to terminate the existing workflows that are running and restart them.
When I try to start a workflow for anyone other than a list item that I created, I get the following error:

You don't need to re-do the fields. If you create a new version of the PDF
file just open the old one and use the Replace Pages command to insert the
pages from the new version over the old ones. This will give you a new
version of the file, with the existing form fields still in tact. Of
course, you might need to adjust their location and/or size, but at least
you won't have to start all over again...

  • Something went wrong. To try again, reload the page and then start the workflow, error on starting a workflow

i have already create a custom workflow with sharepoint designer and checked for error and it seem fine. i published it on my document library so apprear the first issue : the column that contain the name of my workflow apprear and the link to start my workflow(contain
the name of my first stap) doesn't appear. the second problem is that when i tried to start the workflow manually on a specific document i get an alert : Something went wrong. To try again, reload the
page and then start the workflow
i tried : -restart service bus message broker -restart service bus gateway -recycle workflowMgntpool -flushed the dsn resolver cache and the problem still occure
on uls log viewer it seems to be an error on w3wp.exe process
    the workflow history is empty

    Hi Mokhtar,
For your first issue, when you publish a workflow to your document library, only after you start the workflow, then the link to go on the workflow(contain the name of the workflow stage) will appear.
For your second issue, my understanding is that you got an error when you manually start a SharePoint Designer 2013 Workflow.
Please go to Administrative Tools->Services, make sure the following services are started.
    Workflow Manager Backend
    Service Bus Message Broker
    Service Bus Gateway
    Windows Fabric Host Service

  • InfoPath 2013: VSTA 2.0 web service breaks project

Some time ago an InfoPath form was build in InfoPath 2010 with two Web Services in its code behind. In order to edit the form with InfoPath 2013, a fresh project was made and the necessary components were moved from the existing project to the new one.
When testing the form, everything worked fine. However, after closing and opening the form, when trying to open the Code Editor, the following message was returned: "The system cannot find the path specified."
After some investigating I was able to reproduce the error on two distinct machines as follows:
Create a new InfoPath 2010 Filler Form
Create a Code Project with target version: InfoPath 2010
Note that if you now save the form, then close and open it again, everything is still fine.
    Add a Web Reference
    I added <SharePoint 2010>/_vti_bin/lists.asmx
Now save and close the project, save and close the form, open the form and open the Code Editor
    Observe the error message :'(
Note that you can still open (and fix) the project with VS2012. You will have to delete both the web service AND the Web References folder to be able to open the project in InfoPath again.
If you are able to reproduce this problem, please leave a comment. If you have a solution, even better.

Ok, problem solved! Well, sort of, but I think this solution works better.
As Ruud has discovered, the problem relates to InfoPath getting confused about the SharePoint web reference. In fact, when running SysInternals ProcMon, I noticed a suspicious entry:
    INFOPATH.EXE - Create File - C:\Users\david\My Documents\InfoPath Projects\Form1\http:\sharepoint\_vti_bin\lists.asmx%3fwsdl - NAME INVALID
That does certainly look like an invalid name! So, to work around this, simply stop using a web reference! Instead, start by adding a web reference (could be in a different VS project), and copy the generated Reference.cs file into your InfoPath code project!
You'll need to make one tweak (a console project would use Properties for the URL), but other than that it will work fine.
The one disadvantage to this approach is that you don't get to update the reference automatically, but you don't care because it's a reference to SP that will not change.

  • Error 401 when start a workflow

    Hi,
I have a development environment that I installed the Workflow Manager and yours dependencies. The SharePoint 2013 and database are in the same server.

    Help me please!!!

    Hi,
I understand that you failed to start workflow.
Please make sure you have created profiles for your service accounts, and make sure that the User Profile Service is associated with the "default" Application Proxy Group.
In addition, I recommend to use another account to start the workflow to check whether it caused by the account.

  • InfoPath 2013: InfoPath cannot load the view. The view may have been modified to contain unsupported HTML such as frames.

    Hello Folks,
I'm facing a strange behavior of InfoPath 2013 while using with SharePoint Designer 2013 to customize the forms. Whenever i open any SharePoint form to customize it in InfoPath 2013, it gives me error "InfoPath cannot load the view. The view may have
been modified to contain unsupported HTML such as frames."
Just like all other folks, i also assumed that the forms are corrupted and i need to change the extension to *.cab and blah blah blah. But, when i noticed that the error is coming with new list forms, new workflow forms as well then i tried to research on
the issue. Surprisingly, all forms are opening on my colleague's PC but not from my PC. We're using the same server, same SharePoint Production, same SharePoint Development and similar InfoPath. Infact, our system team has prepared both of us in a similar
way. The only difference is OS, where he is using Win 8 and mine is Win 7 Pro.
Therefore, from last 1 week, i've to swap my PC with my colleague if i've to customize or update any form in InfoPath 2013. This is quite bizarre. Can someone let me know what's wrong with this issue?
    Regards,

    Hi Sohaib,
I'd like to double confirm with you that the issue only occurs to your client machine. Please log on to another machine and see if the issue is related to your account.
If the issue is only related to your machine, I'd recommend you clear InfoPath cache and repair Office program.
Then go to InfoPath > Options > More Options > General > Internet Options > Add SharePoint sites to your trusted sites and disbale protected mode.
