Informal poll: If you got error code HD521-*W, which harddrive mfg?

While looking for help with error codes HD521-2W and -3W, I just started wondering if it could be a drive manufacturing issue. The short answer might be that HP only installs a certain brand in their machines, but if they install more than one brand, I'd like to see how many of these errors are attributable to the mfg'er of the one I have, Seagate.
Add yours to the thread if you like. Mine is a 750GB SATA Seagate 7200 rpm... only 4 years old.

The error code indicates that either the hard drive is faulty or it will shortly become faulty. This is irrespective of the brand the error code generated by the HP Diagnostics installed on your system.

It means you hard drive is failing. From Vidya (HP) read the following then the link he posted.
You maybe able to perform the task of creating the recovery disks, use DVD+R media only. You might be able to use Easy Transfer to copy your data (documents,photo's, music, settings) files to an external device (based on capacity). The new drive must be equal or larger than your present hard drive. For the best scenerio, please do not exceed a 2TB HD.
If the drive does not contain errors at this time, you might consider the above as "first response", but try to perform a CLONE using available free software. Both Seagate and Western Digital (WD) provide it via their websites. It's called Disc Wizard.

Add one more disgruntled user to the list. First noticed that I couldn't download upgrades on my iPhone. It would prompt for password as normal, would briefly show "waiting" on the app icon and then just stops with app store still showing update. True deleting the app and installing from iTunes. This worked, but iTunes library had old version of app so it still showed an upgrade. I then deleted the app from the phone and iTunes and that is when I started getting the 11111 error. I've since discovered that I can download any new content to any of my linked iDevices, but cannot download any type of previously purchased content. No previously purchased music not on device, no previously purchased uninstalled apps, no installed app upgrades, etc. ALL show up in purchased content lists, but when you attemp to download it appears to be starting and then simply fails with no errors on the iDevice(s). I've also tried signing out of my account in settings - store, performing a hard reset and then signing back in, but alas, no success.
C'mon Apple, obviously a problem that is happening to numerous users and it started happening to us all at the exact same time. You got us iAddicted, now give us our iFix.

no one knows exactly what those codes mean except Apple techs. A guide/key explaining those codes has not been made public. While others in here can make vague gueses as to what it may be, you really need to bring your mac to an Apple store or AASP for evaluation.

Restore the device again using the most recent backup.
If there is no more recent backup and the pictures were not copied off the device prior to the original restore, they are gone. Same goes for videos taken with the device.

Any content acquired from iTunes should be on iTunes on the computer, simply sync it back.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

As far as I can tell, Error Code 36 is an "I/O Error". It may mean you have a bad USB cable between the iPad and your computer, or the cable was not plugged in firmly.

Hi all,
I got this error whenever copy file from my external HD to my macbook (internal HD).
For more detail:
last week, i copy a lot of my folder to external HD then i format my macbook to install new MacOSX Maverick.
But when i copy my file back to my laptop, i got a lot of file with message:
The Finder can't complete operator because some data in "some file name here" can't be read or written.
(Error code -36)
I try to research a lot of time on google and apple support communities but i still can not solve this problem.
Someone, please help me and guide me how to solve this error because almost my file is my working data.
Some infomation:
My last version of my macbook: MacOS 10.9.3
New version installed on my macbook: MacOS 10.9.3
I just only copy file from my macbook to external HD without doing anything.
Then i format my macbook to install new MacOS 10.9.3
When i copy my file back, this error is happened.
I try a lot of way like dot_clean, disk utility verified, repair, ....

In future, use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a complete backup of your system onto an external disk, before doing an erase/install. Then you can use Transfer Assistant to bring your data and apps across.
