Initializing form fields

I have a form in my application with some fields in. The user enters data in one of the fields which is used as criteria for displaying data on the next screen. When the user returns to the form, I want to blank out the data the user entered initially. I cannot figure out how to do this. Has anyone been able to do this, and if so, how did you do it?
Thanks in advance
Dave

If you have any button on the form that is supposed to reset the form, you will have a procedure in the form generated package like wwv_gensys_x (where x is a number) that calls doReset.
You can conditionally call the wwv_gensys_x procedure from the additional pl/sql section ...before displaying the page to reset all the form fields.

  • Clear Form Fields

    Hi,
    I have downlaoded the above from teh adobe site, but not sure what folder to place in.  If any help the dowload gives the path below to use.
    Commands > Dreamlettes > Clear Initial Form Fields.

    I'm not familiar with the Extension to which you refer, but my guess is that it needs to write code to the <head> of your document.  If you're using DW Templates to generate pages, your Template's <head> tag needs to be editable.
    <head>
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->

  • Setting default value for form field assoc with a table column

    On a "Create Record" situation I was trying to set the default values of some form fields using a page level "Process". These form fields have Source Type = Database Column. It wasn't working, I could only set non-db assoc form field values no matter when the "Process" was set to exec. From some other posts it seems that this is by design, ie. not being able to programatically set the initial values of form fields that are sourced to db columns. I was hoping to have just one "Process" that would exec to set these initial values in one place rather than scattered about for each field that needed a default value. These particular default values come from ref tables and may be different for each user.
    So, it looks like I have to use a "Default Value" plsql chunk for each field on the form itself or else set their value on the calling form's Redirect in the "Set these Items" area.
    Is this correct?

    You could define a database function which accepts the name of the item and the user ID of the user running the application. Based on the item name and the user ID have the function return the appropriate initial value. Invoke this function in a "Default Value" PL/SQL block.
    Does that help in centralizing your initial values? You could have one function per page or one function per application. I would do one function per application.

  • How can I clear Form Field?

    Hi Friends,
    I have created a new custom login named ZSYSTEM. It is a copy of the standard BSP Login Application SYSTEM. The ZSYSTEM uses the subclass  ZCL_BSP_LOGIN_APPLICATION of CL_BSP_LOGIN_APPLICATION.
    In the method IF_BSP_APPLICATION_EVENTS~ON_REQUEST I have wrote a new
    business logic for the login. The issues are the istructions:
      request->set_form_field( name = 'sap-user' value = '' ).
      request->set_form_field( name = 'sap-alias' value = '' ).
    They don't run. The fields 'sap-user' and  'sap-alias' aren't cleaned. I need clear the form field in case of user not authorised.
    I use the same custom Login BSP ZSYSTEM on NTW 7.3 and all run good.
    I read the notes 1513787 and 1421668.

    Hi,
    I guess you need to clear the attribute bsp_user
    and value
    as per code,
    sap-user is having value property set as value="<%= application->bsp_user%>".
    Here bsp_user is the attribute from claSS CL_BSP_LOGIN_APPLICATION.
    Please check same for sap-alias and clear the values accordingly.
    Thanks,

  • How to create form fields in Adobe Professional version 8

    Hello,
    I have been trying for some time now to get a form in place. I have used an existing form and I am working in Adobe Professional version 8.
    I went to tools, forms and than I thought I had to click on text field tool. But than it asks me to name the text field. I want to keep the name fields blank and have them completed by the persons I will send it to (or actually this form will be posted online). The other persons should be able to open, complete, save and return it by email.
    please advise me what to do.
    Your help section brings me all the time to the Life Cycle which I think is not appropriate for the purpose I need it.

    Thank you for your advises but I have the impression my initial question is still not being answered.
    I have tried to create the fields in Adobe Pro 8 version, via forms, text field tool and named all the fields.
    Than I saved it and enabled the usage rights for Adobe Reader but opening this file from another computer in Adobe Reader, it allows me only to add comments and markups in the document, not filling out the form in the form fields I thought I created before?
    Now what to do? Did I do something wrong with the creation of form fields, can you please describe the exact path/steps to take?
    Appreciate your prompt reply.

  • Aligned Form Fields Do Not Display Correctly Where Visible Borders Overlap?

    I'm on creating some forms & checklists for the company I work for to simplify our project workflow.  When adding text fields to the form I'd like to add borders to segregate the various fields & make the form more presentable.
    The problem I'm having, is that I'm unable to place fields immediately adjacent one another without leaving a gap.  If I do & use the snap to grid option, aligning the top of one field with bottom of another, it does not display correctly when printed.  The border lines appear to have differing thicknesses where they touch & this makes the form look terrible.  Currently I'm having to create the borders in an excel spreadsheet, convert to pdf & add borderless fields within the pre printed borders.  While this gives me the look i want, if I later want to add to or amend the form I have to start from scratch first modifying the initial excel layout which is too time consuming.  I'm using Acrobat X Pro.  Any assistance appreciated.
    Regards
    John

    There are at least two techniques to allow you to change the underlying layout and remake the static part of the PDF, without having to redo the form fields (except new ones, and moving as needed).
    That is replace pages and copy-paste of form fields.

  • Acrobat XI programmatically reset/clear all form fields when opening a PDF form

    I've got a PDF form document that I'm working on.  I'd like to add something to it to programmatically clear or reset all form fields to blank when the document is opened.
    Thoughts/ideas??
    Mucho thanks!!

    You can use the resetForm JavaScript method, either in the initial page's Page Open event or in a document-level JavaScript whic will execute when the document is opened.

  • Options for read/write form field data with VBA/Reader

    I have a project which requires reading and writing field data to a PDF form using VBA in PowerPoint. The code I have works properly with the full version of Acrobat, but the client this project is for will be using Reader. I'm looking for suggestions to what options I have to be able to access the form field data (I don't need any other features other than access to the field data). Ideally, I would love a solution which doesn't require the client to install anything extra for this to work, but I'm assuming that this isn't possible without an extra install.
    Is there a library that exists in Reader (or could be licensed to be installed on the client's machine) that would allow the data to be read without needing the full version of Acrobat?
    Does a plug-in exist for Reader, or could be written, that would allow this? Writing a plug-in would certainly be beyond my current capabilities, but I am interested in knowing every and any choices that are available.
    Are there any other options to do what I need to do?
    I had originally thought about exporting the form data and parsing it in the VBA program, but this would take a bit more work to write the parsing routine instead of accessing the fields directly. Plus, it appears to me that Exporting is not enabled in Reader.
    Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide.

    Thanks for the response; this was my original suggestion, but I don't think this is feasable for our client. I suggested to our account people that this might be the only way to do this (and the easiest, although possibly the costliest since it would have to be purchased for their entire sales force) and they initially said that this would not be an option, so I wanted to be able to cover all the bases, and explore any other ways that they could do what they want. Is this the absolute only option to do this?
    Someone also suggested to me that licensing the Acrobat PDF Library SDK might be a way to do this, or that it could possibly be done with a plug-in for Reader (although from what I have found, Reader plug-ins would have to be approved by Adobe). These options, if possible, are beyond my current knowledge but I do want to be able to give them a complete list of possibilities.
    Thanks again.

  • Applying functions to database fields when querying for a form field

    Hi,
    how is it possible to apply trim() or another method to the content of a database field when a query is initiated?
    The actual problem is that there are entries in the database which are entailed by a blank and, because the user is not aware of this fact, he cannot be forced to add a blank or % to the form field he is querying.
    Does anyone have an idea how to solve this issue?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    The where clause is built that way:
    WHERE (ETN.trim(ETN_PLZ)=:1)
    The error message:
    ORA-00904: "ETN"."TRIM": invalid identifier
    Actually, I guess that the trim statements should surround ETN.ETN_PLZ but that is obviously not the case.
    Apart from that I did not enter 1 as the value to query for.
    Nevertheless, thank you for your help. Forms version is 10.1.2 by the way.

  • How to set LocaleId for DateTimeControl on workflow 2010 initiation form

    I am using a workflow initiation form to request a startdate and  expirationdate as initation parameters from the user that starts the workflow. The SharePoint sitecollection is in dutch and so my user is expecting dutch culture settings for the date
    format.
    The workflow initiation form somehow shows a english date format.
    I have tried to set the LocaleId property on every SharePoint:DateTimeControl in the aspx form by using SharePoint designer. This worked for the client side datepicker, but the selected value was no longer stored in the workflow param.
    I also tried setting the regional settings for application and sitecollection as this was my first though for a possible solution. Unfortunately this does not make a difference. In a list column I see this setting is applied succesfull. For example: I'm using
    a task list the shows me the right date format matching the regional setting. Today I did several tests with chinese, german, english and dutch settings. All are applied and showing on correct datepickers in
    the tasklist, but none are showing correct datepicker on the initiation form. (List and Site workflows)
    I am currently testing on a SharePoint 2013 Foundation Farm with Dutch Language Pack and CU December 2014 installed. I am using SharePoint 2010 workflows and a dutch version of SharePoint designer.
    I hope someone can help me!

    Hi,
    I tested the same scenario per your post in my environment, and I got the same results as got.
    As a workaround, I recommend to dynamically change the date format in the workflow initiation form page and display the value in a new input box.
    Below is the code example, and I hided the original input box for the date field and display with a new input box, then display the date value with needed format in the new input box.
    <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function () {
    $(".ms-input").blur(function(){
    var value=$(".ms-input").val();
    //change the value of the date to be the right format here
    $(".ms-input").hide();
    $(".ms-input").after("<div><input name='date' type='text'></div>");
    //display the date value which has been changed with the needed format in the new input box
    $("input[name='date']").val(value);
    </script>
    Thanks,
    Victoria

    I figured it out. The bind variable substitution works as designed. It was just my head that wasn't working right.

  • How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

    I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
    A little background on the forms I want to use:  My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example.  I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server.  We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box.  The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
    One little note:  We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
    Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this!  :-)

    You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
    Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:
    myTrustedBrowseForDoc = app.trustedFunction( function ( oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = app.browseForDoc( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    myTrustedSaveAs = app.trustedFunction( function ( doc, oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = doc.saveAs( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
    Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:
    var fileName = this.getField("Roller Coaster").valueAsString;
    try {
         var oRetn = myTrustedBrowseForDoc({bSave: true, cFilenameInit: fileName + ".pdf"});
         try {
              myTrustedSaveAs(this, { cPath: oRetn.cPath, cFS:oRetn.cFS });
         catch(e) {
              console.println("Save not allowed, perhaps readonly.");
    catch(e) {
    console.println("User cancelled Save As dialog box");
    Good Luck!

  • Using javascript to save a pdf to a different directory and generating a new filename based on form fields in the document.

    I have built the following script in an attempt to create a submit button that will automatically save the document in a different directory on my computer. It will also use the form field data "customer" and "date" to generate the filename. I printed out the variable myPath and it looks like it printed the correct string. I keep getting the following error:
    TypeError: redeclaration of const path
    any help would be much appreciated.
    var customer = this.getField("Customer").value;
    var date = this.getField("Date").value;
    var path = "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/"
      var reg = date.match(/(\d+)\/(\d+)\/(\d+)/);
    var myPath= "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/" + customer + "_" + reg[1] + "." + reg[2] + "." +
    reg[3] + ".pdf";
    this.saveAs(myPath);

    "path" is a keyword within a PDF you should not use keywords as a name for any other object as a general rule.
    Have you checked the PDF Reference to see how to create a file path name within a PDF,  3.10.1 File Specification Strings page 118?
    Did you carefully read the Acrobat JavaScript Reference for the saveAs method?
    The notes following the description:
    Note: This method can only be executed during a batch or console event. See Privileged versus non-privileged context for details. The event object contains a discussion of JavaScript events.
    (Adobe Reader S): This method is available in Adobe Reader for documents that have Save usage rights.
