It appears you are trying to store java objects (types) in a database rather than raw data (string, int, date types) that the object contains. If so, I don't think that ever really caught on. Most programmers store the raw data, then pull it out and populate a class. The problem with storing the object is that new versions of classes come out and your old version is stored in the database. If you just store the data, you don't have to worry about what version is in the database. You can populate the new version of the class with the same data.
Also, others can use sql to query your data and use it for their own use independent of what you intended it for. I think most people use the (browser) based utility that comes with the database to create the tables, normalize them, set up primary keys, set up foreign keys, etc rather then run an sql statement as you did above.

Import/insert data from XML into Oracle database tables?
Hi. (I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and Oracle 10g)
I have been able to export the data from one of my database tables by using a View Object and .writeXML.
Now, I want to take an xml file that is formatted in the same way as what is spit out by the writeXML and put that info in my database table. I followed online examples and have tried using .readXML like so:
Element element = XMLDoc.getDocumentElement();
vo.readXML(element, -1);
I know it is sort of working, because at first I got an error message that one of the required attributes was missing. So, I added that attribute to my xml file and ran my code. No errors. But, I checked my database, and the new records were not added.
Is there something I have done wrong? Or is there perhaps something I left out? I also noticed there were several versions of readXML like readFromXML. Which one should I use and how?
Thanks.KUBA, I changed my code to match your example:
DocumentBuilder db = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
File xmlFile = new File("C:/myfilehere.xml");
Document doc = db.parse(xmlFile);
Element element = doc.getDocumentElement();
vo.readXML(element, -1);
vo.getDBTransaction().commit();
I still get no errors, but my database table has no new records.
Any ideas why?
Thanks. -

Generate Insert Statement Script to Extract Data from Table in Oracle 7i
Hi all, I have an old Oracle legacy system that is running for over 15 years.Every now and then we need to extract data from this table@ ORacle 7i to be imported back to Oracle 10G.
My thoughts are to create a script of Insert statements in oracle 7 and that to be deployed back to Oracle 10G.
I found this scripts in Google and not sure how exactly this works.Any explanation on thsi scripts , would be greatly appreciated.I find this scripst may help to generate a set of insert statements from that table to the latest table at 10G.

Inserting data from Oracle to SQL Server 2008
Hi All,
I am using oracle 9.2.0.7 and SQL server 2008 in windows server 2003 operating system.
My requirment is like below.
1) I would liek to insert data from the Oracle database to SQL Server.
For the above requirement we have created the ODBC, then configure the listener file, tns file, and created the db link. This part is working fine as I am able to select the data from the SQL Server.
But when I am inserting the record from the oracle database to the SQL Server I am getting the error, (ORA-00904) Here oracle can not identified the column name.
My insert statement is like below.
insert into test@SQLTEST (name, fullname)
values ('Oracle', 'Oracle server data');
Test is the SQL server table name and sqltest is the db link name.
If I am select the data
select * from test@SQLTEST from Oralce I am getting the data properly.
Thanks,
SUN

Inserting Data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time Basis.
Hi Everyone,
I need to insert data from Oracle to SQL Server on the Real Time basis, we have to fetch data from oracle approx 20 tables, and each table has more than 30 Fields. I need to fetch data in every 15 mins.
I have created a job using SQL SERVER Agent by writing insert queries for all the tables with conditions that no rows will be inserted which is already in SQL. note that this job is taking only 1 min to execute.
But in this way our SQL Server getting hanged and it giving problems to other application running in the SQL SERVER.
So i m requesting all of you that what is the best way to insert huge amount of data on the real time basis.
Thanx in Advance.1) Create Linked server
2) insert data using openquery and set job in sql agent
3) run job after 15 minutes -
*Urgent*How to insert data from MS SQL to the table that create at the adobe form?
Hi,
I'm using Adobe life cycle designer 8 to do my interactive form. I would like to ask how to insert data from MS SQL to the table that i have created in my adobe interactive form?
I really need the information ASAP as i need to hand in my project by next week... i really appreciate any one who reply this post.
ThanksTou need to do a couple of things
1. On the Essbase server, set up an odbc system connection to your MySQL database
2. In the load rule , go to the file menu and select open SQL data source and in the data source put in your SQL statement . A couple of hints. Where it says Select, don't put in the word select and where it say from don't put in from. The system adds them for you. The easiest way ti enter a SQL statement is to do it all in the select area So if your SQL would normanlly say select * from mytable just enter the code as * from mytable in the select area
The click ol/retrieve and enter in your connection info. Itshould bring data back into the load rule. Save the load rule and use it -
Insert data from oracle to sql server

thanksWhat is a maximal latency for data changed in Oracle come into MS SQL?
this data will be updated in CRM after 24 hours.Does it mean that data replicated from Oracle will be updated in MS SQL and should be replicated back?
i want to know more details about these APIs etc and middle layer.what API? In MS SQL you can use Linked server and write SQLs that select from Oracle tables via that linked server and insert/update/delete into MS SQL. You can organize these SQLs into T-SQL procedures and run them in jobs.
Also you can use MS SQL replication, snapshot or transactional, which is ugly because it places triggers on Oracle tables. I doubt that this will be approved by app vendor.
Also you can use Oracle Streams via Transparent Gateway for MS SQL, which will be quite heavy solution.
Also, if real-time replication is needed, you can use "middle layer" Oracle Golden Gate, which may be quite pricy for 30 tables.
Also, if real-time replication is needed, you can use 3-rd party middle layer like DataCurrents or others. -
How to insert data from *.dmp file to oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Develope
hi
i backup my database using PL/SQL developer and made *.dmp file
how to insert data from *.dmp file to oracle 11g using Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
and how to make *.dmp file from sql*plus ?
thanks in advancePl/Sql developer has a config window, there you choose the exec to do the import/export.
Find it and his home version, it may be exp or expdp, the home version is the version of the client where the exp executable is.
Then use the same version of imp or impdp to execute the import, you do not need to use Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64. If you want to use it, you must have the same version in the oracle home that exp/imp of sql developer use. -
Cannot insert data from local database into remote database using subquery
I have two oracle databases on different host.
One is version 8i in Host A and the other is 9i in Host B.
First, I try to create a dblink in 8i to 9i, but it fail.
Then, I create a dblink in 9i to 8i, it success.
I have already tried some select statement in 9i to view the table in 8i, which is success and that means the dblink is really work.
The sql statement is like
Select * from table1@hostA
Then I have tried running some INSERT statement in 9i, which is copy data from table 1 in 8i to table 2 in 8i, both tables are in 8i. The sql statement is like
Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2)
select field1, field2
from table1@hostA
This also success.
Also, I have tried to use the following INSERT statement
Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2) values ('XXX', 'XXX)
This also success.
However, when I try to insert data from table in 9i to table in 8i using the following INSERT statement, it failed.
Insert INTO table2@hostA(field1, field2)
select field1, field2
from table1
The statement can execute, but all the rows inserted with every field value equal to NULL. I have tried to run the select part, it can return the data. But when I run the INSERT statement above, the value inserted into table2 is all equal to NULL.
One more thing, I discover that the databases are using different NLS_CHARACTERSET
9i is AL32UTF8
8i is WE8ISO8859P1
Is this relevant to my problem?
Does anyone know the solution about this problem?
Thanks!!How is the best way to do this ?How much are you planning to send?
You can use COPY command. Ensure that you have valid database link between two databases.
Available options are:
create - creates a new table. errors out if the destination table exists.
replace - drop the destination table and re-creates with data.
insert - inserts data if the destination table exists.
append– appends data into an existing table.
use set arraysize 5000 -The arraysize specifies the number of rows that SQL*Plus will retrieve from the database at one time.
copy from scott/tiger@ORCL to scott/tiger@ORCL92 create new_emp using select * from emp; -

Data from BW to Oracle.
Hi All,
I am new into BW and i know how to get the data from my applications backend i.e ORACLE to BW system for reporting purpose. I have a scenario where user can edit this information through IP. I want this modified data to go back to ORACLE DB so that i can use this in my webdynpro application for further processing.
So how can i achieve the transfer of data from BW to ORACLE DB in real time.
Hope i am clear and will get some solution for this.
thanks & regards,
Manoj@Jai
no, it's not DBCONNECT.
Database links are an ORACLE feature that comes for free if you have Oracle on both sides.
Main steps for the implementation part:
BW side:
1. you have to invite the Oracle database in the protocol.ora file of the MY_BW database.
The host is the server where the local Oracle database instance is running.
protocol.ora:
TCP.INVITED_NODES= (myORACLEserver,...other hosts...)
2. Define a database user in the BW database MY_BW_USER
3. Grant SELECT privileges for the user MY_BW_USER that is used in the link:
grant select on my_bw_table to my_bw_user;
Oracle side:
1. database link
CREATE DATABASE LINK "MY_BW.WORLD" CONNECT TO "MY_BW_USER"
IDENTIFIED BY "my_bw_user_password"
USING '(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = SAP.WORLD)(PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mySAPBWServer.com)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = MY_BW)(GLOBAL_NAME = MY_BW.WORLD))
2. Create a view with the SELECT to extract from BW via the link (listed after the @):
Create view view_extract_from_bw as
select * from my_bw_table@MY_BW.WORLD
You can do any transformations in the SELECT part to fit the data into the local Oracle table later in the insert.
3. You will pull the data on the Oracle DB side from the BW database via the view that inturn uses the link
to the BW Oracle system:
insert into local_Oracle_table select * from view_extract_from_bw
You see some support is needed from Basis guys to establish the link. But once implemented
you have a interface from your local Oracle to the BW database.

If yes then please clarify it .
is it possible from client end.
thanks
kamYes it is possible using SQL*LDR, External tables and ORCL Export Utility. Though I didn't try Export Utility to load the external files.
SQLLdr sysntax:
Create a control file.
It looks like this
Load data
Infile 'source.dat'
Into Table tablename
Fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '"'

then use sqlldr command from your OS.
{code}
sqlldr userid/password@sid control = filename.ctl, data = source.dat, log = logname.log, bad = badname.log, discard = discardname.discard
