Insert in text file

Hello,
I have an application that generates a measurement files (text) of several hundred Mo.
How can I insert text in the file without having to read all the contents (I know the position where to insert a text in this file).
Thank you in advance.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Excuse me for this francisism. I meant Mb (Megabyte) and not Mo (which is Megaoctet in french).
Your definition of insert feat with what I want to do. So if I understand correctly, It's impossible to insert (and not overwrite) data in a file text without having to read the data located before and after my insert position ?
You see the problem that I have, in my case, it is not possible to have read 800MB of data to insert 15 characters of text.
Other ideas, or it is really impossible ???
Thanks.

  • How to get current month from filename and bulk insert from text file into table?

    I set up some dynamic SQL to help my bulk copy data from a text file to a table.  This works fine for files that come in every day; I get the previous day’s data, based on the file name that’s placed
    in the folder.  That’s why I’m using the ‘-1’.  The dates will look like this: '20140131', so I'm using type 112.
    declare @fullpath1 varchar(1000)
    select @fullpath1 = '''\\system.local\ms\london\FTP\' + convert(varchar, getdate()-1, 112) + '_INDEXPRICES_EOM.SPC'''
    declare @cmd1 nvarchar(1000)
    print (@cmd1)
    select @cmd1 = 'bulk insert [dbo].[SB_Monthly] from ' + @fullpath1 + ' with (FIELDTERMINATOR = ''\t'', FIRSTROW = 5, LASTROW = 675, ROWTERMINATOR=''0x0a'')'
    print(@cmd1)
    exec (@cmd1)
    I think the syntax will be somewhat similar to this:
    YEAR(date_column)=YEAR(getdate()) AND MONTH(date_column)=MONTH(getdate())
    I’m not totally sure how to incorporate that into my current syntax.
    Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

    I tried a couple versions of this.
    Declare @StartDate Date, @EndDate Date
    Select @StartDate = convert(varchar, getdate()-28, 112), @EndDate = convert(varchar, getdate()-1, 112)
    BEGIN
    declare @fullpath1 varchar(1000)
    select @fullpath1 = '''\\ms\london\FTP\' + ''' between ''' + Convert(Varchar(10), @StartDate, 101) + ''' and ''' + Convert(Varchar(10), @EndDate, 101) + '''_SP.SPC'''
    declare @cmd1 nvarchar(1000)
    print (@cmd1)
    select @cmd1 = 'bulk insert [dbo].[SPBMI_Monthly] from ' + @fullpath1 + ' with (FIELDTERMINATOR = ''\t'', FIRSTROW = 5, LASTROW = 675, ROWTERMINATOR=''0x0a'')'
    print(@cmd1)
    exec (@cmd1)
    END
    Here’s the string:
    bulk insert [dbo].[SPBMI_Monthly] from '\\ms\london\FTP\' between '02/03/2014' and '03/02/2014'_SP.SPC' with (FIELDTERMINATOR = '\t', FIRSTROW = 5, LASTROW = 675, ROWTERMINATOR='0x0a')
    The error message I keep getting is:
    Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
    Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'between'.
    Msg 319, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
    Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'with'. If this statement is a common table expression, an xmlnamespaces clause or a change tracking context clause, the previous statement must be terminated with a semicolon.
    I feel like I’m already pushing this thing to the limit.
    Maybe this last part isn’t possible.

  • Insert multiple text files to multiple tables that have different table structures

    Hi All,
    I have a small problem. I have lots of text files in a folder location. Say for an example Company.txt, Code.txt. I need to insert all these files to tables similar to the file structure. Company file to Company table and Code file to Code table. The catch
    is that all these table structures differ one to another.
    How can i do this using SSIS? I guess using a for each loop with some data flow task would be a start.
    Can some body give me a step by step example on how i can achieve this.
    Thanks
    LM

    It is very complicated to accomplish the above requirement using the standard Data Flow Task. You have to essentially setup a separate task for each table layout. If you can use third-party solutions, check the commercial CozyRoc
    Data Flow Task Plus. It is an extension of the standard Data Flow Task, with ability to do dynamic data flows at runtime. You can load all your tables and layouts with only one Data Flow Task. The other benefit is the solution doesn't require programming.SSIS Tasks Components Scripts Services | http://www.cozyroc.com/

  • I want to insert two text files in to oracle.

    Ex :
    text1.txt contains data as
    1 a
    2 b
    3 c
    text2.txt contains data as
    4 d
    5 e
    6 f
    I want to load both text file into oracle as
    1 a 4 d
    2 b 5 e
    3 c 6 f
    for these how to create *.ctl file*

    I wouldn't use SQL*Loader for this.
    Here's an example based on your simplified example, but it should get you going.
    I used an external table, so you can load both files at the same time, by adding the filenames to the location.
    By using the PIVOT technique, you can insert the data in the destination table as desired:
    By the way: I needed some help for that last query:http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:4937250900346222596 ;)
    SQL> drop table destination purge;
    Table dropped.
    SQL> drop table test purge;

    -- Create our desination table:
    SQL> create table destination

      3  , col2 varchar2(1)
      4  , col3 varchar2(1)
      5  , col4 varchar2(1)
      6  );
    Table created.
    -- Instead of using SQL*Loader, we use an external table to query text1.txt and text2.txt at the same time:
    SQL> create table test
      2  ( col1 varchar2(1)
      3  , col2 varchar2(1)

  • 'FROM keyword not found where expected'error while Inserting into Text file

    Hi,
    I have created a simple interface for testing purpose. All it has to do is to Read the data from a Source Text file and put it into another text file (exactly the same headers as that of source) ...
    I am using Oracle as my staging area.
    But at 'Insert column Header' Stage, it gives me a warning 'FROM keyword not found where expected' and when it goes to the next step 'Insert Rows' it gives me the same error 'FROM keyword not found where expected' and aborts its execution.
    I checked the query for insertion and found nothing wrong in it (FROM Statement is just where it is expected, that is) but somehow its not working.
    Can somebody help me out as i have done it before on other Installations and dont know why it is occuring that too for the simplest thing in ODI ...
    Regards,
    Nitesh.

    Probably you missed the concat operator.

  • I need to insert Pages text file at end of a file; i.e., making one long document from several files. insert 'file' is not option in toolbar. how do i do this?

    i need to insert a Pages text file at end of another file; in other words, i'm making one long file from several files.  "insert file" is not an option in the toolbar, so how do i do this?

    this method sounds like a PAIN but of course i have no choice but to try it.  Why would Pages make such a simple thing so troublesome?  in other programs, you simply click 'insert file'.
    The only thing odd about Pages' Insert file is that it doesn't do its own format.
    You obviously think that MsWord is "The Norm" but I found really odd things that it won't do. To the point I, like others here, can't be bothered trying to drive the Word square peg into the Mac round hole.
    Mostly Pages works by drag and drop, I'm puzzled why that doesn't work with the thumbnails. But then there are quite a few oddities in every program. Pages is far from an exception.

  • How can i insert the text file in a hashSet???

    Hi, here's the code to feed the text file into the program, i need to put the words from the text file into a hashSet, im not too sure how to go about doing this, can anyone help please?
    import java.io.*;
    public class FileIn {
    BufferedReader in;
    public FileIn() {
    try {
    in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("\\C:\\Program Files\\java.txt\\"));
    String line = in.readLine();
    System.out.println(line);
    in.close();
    } catch(IOException ioe) {
    System.out.println(ioe.toString());
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    FileIn newFile = new FileIn();
    }

    First you need to break each line into words. You'll need to decide on your rules for doing that. A simple approach would be to just break on whitespace. This assumes there are no hyphenated words at the end of a line. You'll also want to strip out punctuation.
    Once you've got a word (or an array of them, if you used String.split), then just iterate over it and call HashSet.add for each one. There might even be a helper function in java.util.Arrays or java.util.Collections or in HashSet to add everything from an array.

  • How to Insert a Text File in a jar file?

    Hi!,
    I have a program which runs smoothly both from the IDE and also from the .jar file when it is on the Hard Disk. When i copied everything onto a CD, the .jar file runs but when it comes to access a text file it pops up the message, which should pop up when a FileNotFoundException is encountered. Now i am using relative paths, in fact i tried to load the whole thing from a pen drive and it works fine as well. I think that if the text file is included in the jar file itself, it might work from the CD as well, but i dont know how to do it. can anyone pls tell me how i can solve this problem?
    Thx in advance, Spi_Mlt

    OK this might give you some trouble (gave me trouble for a long time) so I will try to help you.
    1. in your code load the file as a resources not a FileObject or a local stream, this is what I mean...
    A_stream_that_best_fits_your_needs = getClass().getResourceAsStream("fileName");
    // something like that...if you don't know streams google it2. put a copy of your text file in the same folder as the .java file that loads it and a copy where the .class file that loads it (if they are in the same directory then it just easier than for you).
    3. when compiling the jar include the text file in it!
    Hope that helps!

  • How to insert text file in a table (unix environment)

    Hi All,
    i am having a requirement that i need to insert a text file in table.
    how can i do it. i am in unix environment.
    NOTE:- for this i have to write a SQL*LOADER script (not a pl/sql unit)
    Regards
    Harsh

    You can use SQLDeveloper to help load data from a file into a table. With SQLDeveloper you can load data into an existing table by right clicking on the table on the connections tree and choosing import and selecting the file to import. If the table does not exist you can right click on the table folder and click import and the import process will allso create the table. You have the choice of a number of methods for importing the data, including SQL Loader, insert script, excuted sql, staging external table or permanent external table.

  • Any way to embed a text file and retain the link?

    Hi everyone,
    I am embedding the contents of a text file using "Insert > Choose...". This works wonderfully, but it appears to just insert the contents and gives me no way to update the text if the original text file changes. In Word, I can insert the text file and have it retain the link, then I have the ability to update the field (or all files in the document) with updated wording from my source files.
    In case you're wondering, I'm exploring using Pages for authoring the user guides for my company's software. We include command usage statements in our documentation and we have a workflow that runs each command, capturing it's help output into a text file, then we include this in the user guide document. Obviously, having the ability to update the user guide document with updated usage syntax is a required piece of functionality. I would like to use Pages instead of Word, but I'm not sure it can do this.
    Thanks in advance!
    Brian

    No, Pages can't do it. It doesn't keep a link to the original text document. You have to replace the text when you have made changes.

  • Using servlets to read from text file and insert data

    Hi,
    Can I use a servlet to read from a space delimited text file on the client computer and use that data to insert into a table in my database? I want to make it easy for my users to upload their data without having to have them use SQL*Loader. If so can someone give me a hint as how to get started? I appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Colby

    Create a page for the user to upload the file to your webserver and send a message (containing the file location) to a server app that will open the file, parse it, and insert it into your database. Make sure you secure the page.
    or
    Have the user paste the file into a simple web form that submits to a servlet that parses the data and inserts it into your db.

    Hi you can put a new line in a text file using System.getProperty("line.separator"). This implementation will work for every OS.
    import java.io.*;
    class Demo{
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
    FileWriter fr = new FileWriter("FileDemo.txt");
         fr.write("AAAAAAAAAA");
    fr.write(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
    fr.write("AAAAAAAAAAA");
    fr.close();
    }
