Insert UK Date Into MS SQL Database

Hi All..
I'm using Dreamweaver 8.02, Classic ASP and MS SQL 2008
I'm having problems inserting a UK formatted date from my form to my database.
My form uses a standard text box for entering a date in the format of dd/mm/yyyy and inserts the a field in my db with a datatype of 'datetime', but when i submit the form, i get the error below!
This is the insert line of code:
MM_editCmd.Parameters.Append MM_editCmd.CreateParameter("param3", 135, 1, -1, MM_IIF(Request.Form("expirydate"), Request.Form("expirydate"), null)) ' adDBTimeStamp
I've tried all sorts of variations and i'm still unsure what the CONVERT function is (below)
Any advise would be great
Thanks in advance
Andy

  • INSERTING DATA INTO A SQL SERVER 2005 TABLE, WHICH HAS A IDENTITY COLUMN

    Hi All,
    I have to insert the data into a SQL SERVER 2005 Database table.
    I am able to insert the data into a normal SQL Server table.
    When I am trying to insert the data into a SQL Server table, which has a identity column (i.e. auto increment column in Oracle) I am getting error saying that can't insert value explicitly when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.
    Had anybody tried this??
    There are some SRs on this issue, Oracle agreed that it is a bug. I am wondering if there is any workaround from any one of you (refer Insert in MS-SQL database table with IDENTITY COLUMN
    Thanks
    V Kumar

    Even I had raised a SR on this in October 2008. But didn't get any solution for a long time, finally I had removed the identity column from the table. I can't to that now :).
    I am using 10.1.3.3.0 and MS SQL SERVER 2005, They said it is working for MS SQL SERVER TABLE, if the identity column is not a primary key and asked me to refer to note 744735.1.
    I had followed that note, but still it is not working for me.
    But my requirement is it should work for a MS SQL SERVER 2005 table, which has identity column as primary key.
    Thanks
    V Kumar

  • Inserting Timestamp into a SQL database

    I am having a problem inserting a timestamp into a Sql Database. I keep getting this error or a different on when i format the timestamp differently. In the following code the timestamp is not formated at all.
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '13'
    this is the sql statement that is executed
    insert into timesheet(IDNUM,TimeIn,TimeOut,HoursWorked) values (123 , 2005-07-15 13:20:06.062 , 2005-07-15 13:20:06.062 ,0)
    the code is as follows:
         <%
         try
                SimpleDateFormat test = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss");
                Timestamp stamp = new Timestamp(System.currentTimeMillis());
                java.util.Date date = new java.util.Date();
                String sql = "insert into timesheet(IDNUM,TimeIn,TimeOut,HoursWorked) values (" + session.getAttribute("IDNum") + " , " + stamp + " , " + stamp + " ,0)";
                Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
                Connection cnxn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:EmployeeSystem");
                Statement stmt = cnxn.createStatement();
                 stmt.execute(sql);
                response.sendRedirect("employee.jsp");
         catch(Exception dberr)
             SimpleDateFormat test = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMddhhmm");
             Timestamp stamp = new Timestamp(System.currentTimeMillis());
             out.println(dberr);
             out.println("insert into timesheet(IDNUM,TimeIn,TimeOut,HoursWorked) values (" + session.getAttribute("IDNum") + " , " + stamp + " , " + stamp + " ,0)");
         %>please help.
    The reason that i need the timestamps in there is that i am creating a time clock program for my school that they can put on a intranet so thier hourly employees can use instead of the current manual system they use.

    even better would be to use prepared statements and set the fields via Timestamp objects.
    String sql = "insert into timesheet(IDNUM ,TimeIn ,TimeOut ,HoursWorked ) values (?,?,?,?)";
    Statement stmt = cnxn.prepareStatement(sql);
    int idNum = (Integer)session.getAttribute("IDNum").intValue();
    Timestamp stamp = new Timestamp(System.currentTimeMillis());
    stmt.setInt(1, idNum);
    stmt.setTimeStamp(2, stamp);
    stmt.setTimeStamp(3, stamp);
    stmt.setInt(4, 0);
    stmt.execute();It makes your code much more portable, as you don't have to worry about the database having a TO_DATE function with that syntax.
    Cheers,

    thanxAnd that SQL statement is another reason to use PreparedStatement. I assume bname and sname are input from some form? Well, if that's the case, simply inserting them into SQL by simple String concatenation is just begging for all sorts of problems. What if there is an apostrophe in the entry? Broken Statement. Worse, it's a wide open invitation to an SQL Injection attack.

  • Is it possible to insert data into a MySQL database with Java?

    Hello everyone!
    I would like to know, if it's possible to insert data into a MySQL database, with a JFrame inside a servlet?
    When the JFrame is first created it calls this method:
         * Connects the servlet with the MySQL database.
        private void connect(){
            try{
                Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
                connection = DriverManager.getConnection(
                        "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/data", "root", "omfg123");
            }catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe){
                cnfe.printStackTrace();
            }catch(SQLException sqle){
                sqle.printStackTrace();
        }Then, when you click the "Add" button, it executes this code:
                add.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){
                    @Override
                    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae){
                        String employee = employeeName.getText();
                        String[] args = employee.split(" ");
                        firstName = args[0];
                        lastName = args[1];
                        execute();
                });And this is my "execute()" method:
         * Connects the servlet with the MySQL database.
         * - And executes the SQL queries.
        private void execute(){
            try{
                PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement("insert" +
                        " into employees values(" + firstName + ", " + lastName
                        + ")");
                ResultSet result = statement.executeQuery();
                String fullName = firstName + " " + lastName;
                printer.write("Employee " + fullName + " added.</br>");
            }catch(SQLException sqle){
                sqle.printStackTrace();
        }But when I click the "Add" button, nothing happens.

    This is what I use to insert into mysql. It works on windows.
    try {
                Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
                String connectionUrl = "jdbc:mysql://" + loadip + "/custsig?" +
                        "user=root&password=";
                Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionUrl);
                newproc = jTextField1.getText();
                newsoft = jTextField2.getText();
                newdeb = jTextField3.getText();

  • Custom PL/SQL API that inserts the data into a custom interface table.

    We are developing a custom Web ADI integrator for importing suppliers into Oracle.
    The Web ADI interface is a custom PL/SQL API that inserts the data into a custom interface table. We have defined the content, uploader and an importer. The importer is again a custom PL/SQL API that will process the records inserted into the custom table and updates the STATUS column of the custom interface table. We want to show the status column back on the spreadsheet.
    Defined the 'Document Row' import rule and added the rows that would identify the unique record.
    Errored row import rule, we are using a SELECT * from custom_table where status<>'Success' and vendor_name=$param$.vendor_name
    The source of this parameter is import.vendor_name
    We have also defined an Error lookup.
    After the above setup is completed, we invoke the create document and click on Oracle->Upload.
    The records are getting imported, but the importer program is failing with An error has occurred while running an API import. The ERRORED_ROWS step 20003:ER_500141, parameter number 1 must contain the value BIND in attribute 1.'

    Hello everybody,
    I need insert blob data into database. that data i need to get from form
    can i use request.getParameter(""); for getting that file.
    Plz help how to get data from form to servlet and through callablestatement i need to insert into database.
    regards,
    Anil

    Hi,
    1) first create a form with file element
    first.jsp
    <form action="GetData" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post">
    <input type="file" name="datafile" size="40">
    <input type="submit" value="Send">
    <input type="reset" name="Reset" value="Cancel">
    </form>
    GetData.java
    // servlet file
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException
    res.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    try {
    System.setProperty( "jdbc.drivers", "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" );
    Class.forName( "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" );
    con = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=JAVATEAM;SelectMethod=cursor;User=sa;Password=urpassword" );
    PreparedStatement pst = con.prepareStatement("insert into uploads(binaryfile) values(?)");
    FileInputStream fis=new FileInputStream(request.getParameter ( "datafile" ) );
    byte[] b= new byte[fis.available()+1];
    fis.read(b);
    pst.setBytes(1,b);
    pst.executeUpdate();
    pst.close();
    con.close();
    catch(SQLException e)
    out.println ( e);
    catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
    out.println( e );
    }Here in doPost(), i create preparedstatement,
    now you to create one procedure for insert
    and by using callable statement you just call that procedure and pass this byte b as arguments,
    now its in your hands
    my idea is over.

  • I can insert data into an access database, but I need to querry the database for specific information. How do I do it?

    I can insert data into an access database, now I need to do some simple querries such as selecting all records that are greater than a certain value or = a certain value. How can I return only the selected records?

    If you don't want to spend any money, then instead of ActiveX, I would recomend LabSQL from Jeffrey Travis. I use it instead of the Connectivity toolkit and have had no problems. Besides being free, you have the advantage of being able to use it with any database. ActiveX ties you to Access and you upgrade your version of Access and find the properties and methods are different, you've got a lot of reprogramming to do.

    Hello,
    What manu suggested this can be done through oracle forms.
    If as i read your last post you are using that in database it will not work in db. Try to use the same process in oracle forms will work by making some changes.
    And if you don't want to use forms then there is one way using SQL LOADER. It required control file to execute for uploading data.
    See the below link.
    http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/SQL*Loader_FAQ
    In this example its showing filename.csv you can use your file name like yourfilename.txt.
    So your control file will look like this...
    load data
    infile 'file_path\file_name.txt'
    into table table_name  -- use actual table name where you want to upload data
    fields terminated by " "  -- Here using spaces as you mentioned
    (column1, column2, column3)  -- Here use the three column names of tableAnd after creating control file with the above code. You can call it in command prompt like this
    sqlldr username/password control=control_file_path\control_file_name.ctl log=log_file_path\log_file_name.log
    or
    sqlldr username/password@dbconnection control=control_file_path\control_file_name.ctl log=log_file_path\log_file_name.log
    Before doing this practice make sure SQLLDR.exe availabe in the machine where you have to execute. Otherwise you will have to install db client for using sqlldr.exe

    Hi sid_siv,
    Only the first record is inserted because of the scalar variables of the stored procedure(SP), when you call the SP, only one row is passed. To get all rows inserted, you can either declare a
    table-valued parameter
    (TVP) for the SP or using an Oracle linked server in the SP.
    Create a stored procedure with a table-valued parameter
    As you mentioned linked server is not good in your case, then TVP SP can be the only option. Regarding how to call a SP with TVP parameter in BizTalk, that's a typically BizTalk question then. I would suggest you post your question in a dedicated
    BizTalk Server forum. It is more appropriate and more experts will assist you.
    If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

    alter table [dbo].[test2] add constraint [fk_test2_test2_id] foreign key([test1_id])
    references [dbo].[test1] ([test1_id])
    I want to insert the data into two tables in one insert statement. How can i do this using T-SQL ?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can INSERT into both tables within one Transaction but not in one statement. By the way, you would need to alter your dbo.Test1 table to allow null for first INSERT test2_id column
    See sample code below:
    CREATE TABLE #test1(test1_ID INT IDENTITY(1,1),test2_id INT NULL)
    CREATE TABLE #test2(test2_ID INT IDENTITY(1,1),test1_ID INT)
    DECLARE @Test1dentity INT
    DECLARE @Test2dentity INT
    BEGIN TRAN
    -- Insert NULL as test2_ID value is unknown
    INSERT INTO #test1(test2_ID)
    SELECT NULL;
    -- get inserted identity value
    SET @Test1dentity = SCOPE_IDENTITY();
    INSERT INTO #test2(test1_ID)
    SELECT @Test1dentity;
    -- get inserted identity value
    SET @Test2dentity = SCOPE_IDENTITY();
    -- Update test1 table
    UPDATE #test1
    SET test2_ID = @Test2dentity
    WHERE test1_ID = @Test1dentity;
    COMMIT
    SELECT * FROM #test1;
    SELECT * FROM #test2;
    -- Drop temp tables
    IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#test1') IS NOT NULL
    BEGIN
    DROP TABLE #test1
    END
    IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#test2') IS NOT NULL
    BEGIN
    DROP TABLE #test2
    END

  • Xml data into non-xml database.. solution anyone?

    Hi,
    My current project requires me to store the client's data on our servers. We're using Oracle9i. Daily, I will download the client's data for that day and load it into our database. My problem is that the data file is not a flat file so I can't use sql*loader to load the data. Instead, the data file is an xml file. What is the best way to load xml data into a non-xml database? Are there any tools similar to sql*Loader that will load xml data into non-xml database? Is it the best solution for the client to give me an XML dump of their data to load into our database, or should I request a flat file? My last resort would be to write some sort of a script to parse the xml data into a flat file, and then run it through sql*loader. Is this the best solution? One thing to note is that these files could be very large.
    Thanks in advance.

    I assume that just putting the XML file into an
    extremely large VARCHAR field is not what you want.
    Instead, you want to extract data elements from the
    XML and write them to columns in a table in your
    database. Right?Yes. Your assumption is correct.
    It sounds like you already have a script that loads a
    flat file into your database. In that case I would
    write an XSL transformation that converts the client's
    XML into a correctly-formatted flat file.Thank you. I'll look into that. Other suggestions are welcome.
