Inserting a consecutive number as a variable?

I need to insert a consecutive number from 1 to 100 in a text: this will relate to numbered images accompanying in the document.
It is possible to create a text variable or similar instead of typing manually?

Is something like this, very very simple, where ID makes a consecutive numbering.

Thank you.
InDesign cannot create auto-numbers within the body of a paragraph, only at the beginning. Further, an InDesign paragraph cannot run into another paragraph on the same line.
If the numbers in your example refer to aut-numbered named-list paragraphs elsewhere in the same or different documents, as I mentioned earlier, you can insert cross-references to those paragraphs and capture only the auto-number portion of the paragraph, and even add the enclosing square brackets, by defining a cross-reference format.
Also, as I noted earlier, the Google search for phrases like "InDesign cross-reference format," without quotes, will return many good references to the topic. Searching Google for "InDesign cross-reference format tutorial," without quotes returns an even more focused set of results.

  • Error with master page "insert current page number" when exporting book

    Using InDesign CS 5.5 for Windows
    Recently upgraded from InDesign CS (the really old one from 2003). I did save a copy of all my old version files and kept the old ID installed just in case (after reading all the horror stories on here).
    In my old version of ID, I created a book made up of about 70 documents. Some of these documents are one page, others have multiple pages. In the multiple page documents, I used the "insert ... current page number" character (or whatever the command was in the old version) on a master page, and formatted it to read, for example: Page 1 of 17, Page 2 of 17, Page 3 of 17, etc. When I exported my book to a pdf, it worked fine. (I do not want/have consecutive page numbers throughout the book, only in individual documents. By this I mean my entire book is about 280 pages, but not all of these 280 pages are numbered, just the groups of pages from these multi-page documents. It doesn't read page 1 through 280.)
    Got my upgrade to 5.5 a few months ago, added some documents to the book, and (if i remember right) when I saved the book it asked to convert every old version document to the new version, which I said okay. When I exported the book to a pdf, some documents that are longer than 2 pages are now numbered wrong; the numbers are now going like this: Page 1 of 17, Page 2 of 17, Page 2 of 17 (supposed to be page 3), Page 2 of 17 (supposed to be page 4), etc. Every page but page 1 is now page 2 of whatever.
    If I open the individual document and export it to pdf, the page numbers work fine. It's only when the document is exported with the book that the page numbers mess up. And it's not all the documents in my book; this error starts at a particular document and continues from that point throughout the rest of the book, affecting any document longer than 2 pages. Multi-page documents before this point in the book export with the correct page numbers.
    I create new documents by doing a "save as" with a previously created document and cut and paste as needed, so I'm not having to reformat or set up page numbers on each new document. I don't use layers or styles (I'm sure there's a better way to do what I need, but I've only had time learn the basics, just enough to be functional.)
    My attempts to fix this so far (using version 5.5), testing with the first document where the error appears: (1) I've removed the document from the book, deleted the insert current page number character, re-entered the insert current page number character, saved, exported the individual document to pdf and it worked fine. Put it back in the book, save, export, and it's wrong. (2) I took the document out of the book again, exported the document to .idml, saved as new .indd with new name, exported to pdf and it worked fine. Put it back in the book, save, export, and it's wrong. (3) I started up my old ID version, opened the old version of this document, exported to .inx, closed, opened .inx in ID 5.5, saved as new .indd with new name, exported to pdf and it worked fine. Put it back in the book, save, export, and it's wrong. (4) I moved the document up in the book order, putting it above a document that has correctly numbered pages, saved, exported to pdf, and this document was still wrong, but the one that has been numbered correctly all along is still correct. (5) I've compared settings for this document to others that number correctly and cannot find any difference.
    It's like the page numbers get hung on "2" when I export the book, but only in the last two-thirds of the book. Sorry it's so lengthy, but I hope this description of my problem is understandable. Any advice, other than going back to my old version documents and starting over?
    Thanks for your time and for all the awesome information this forum provides!

    Mr. Spier
    Right after I posted my question, I saw a post from last year where somebody had similar problems. (I cringed because I spent almost 3 days researching this problem and never ran across that post; thanks for not scolding me for posting a semi re-run.) I decided to try one of the easier solutions: I opened the problem document from the book panel, went to the master page and deleted the text box containing the page number, copied the page number box from a document that worked correctly, and pasted it into the problem document. Saved that doc, closed, saved book, exported to pdf, and it worked!! The page number problem was fixed. I went back and did the same thing for the other problem documents and they all number correctly now.
    Probably not the best way, but for now this will fix it; I may have to do it again next time I add to the book. Although I didn't follow your instructions, I'll mark this as answered since it's working now. If it keeps giving me problems, I'll try the .inx export/new book route.
    thanks for your time

  • Inserting a LINESTRING with a bind variable

    Hello - I am trying to insert a LINESTRING with a bind variable. Here is my query that works:
    INSERT INTO EDGE (pts)
    VALUES (SDO_GEOMETRY('LINESTRING(-71.110157 42.513495, -71.110159 42.51359)',8307));
    But if I want to pass in the pts as a bind variable, as follows:
    INSERT INTO EDGE (pts)
    VALUES (SDO_GEOMETRY(LINESTRING(:pts),8307));
    When prompted in sqlDeveloper I set the bind variable to: -71.110157 42.513495, -71.110159 42.51359
    I get the following error: PLS-306: wrong number of types of arguments.
    Thanks!

    Thanks - Your reply worked well, but I ran into another snag. If the linestring is greater than 4000 chars, I get another error.
    ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
    Are there any work arounds for this?? Below is the string I am using for the bind/insert:

  • Nokia 7230 - How to insert a phone number from Con...

    I know this is an issue with some other models, but HOW do I insert a phone number from my contacts into a text message?
    -If I go to Phonebook and "copy" number, then I try to paste it into my message, I get an answer that there is nothing to paste.
    -I cannot open the phonebook while I am in the texting window, there is no option, in old models one had "insert telephone number", with 7230 I can only  insert a smile or special character.
    -I DO NOT WANT to send a MMS with visiting card, just plain sms with a number taken from my contacts.
    Thanks to whoever can help!
    Mod

    Hi modjadii,
    The compact UI style used in 7230 does not allow copying phone number to text message the same way as in some previous models but please try this as a solution.
    Write a text message and when you need to insert phone number from your contacts select Options - More - Exit editor (or just press End key to return to idle screen). The text you have already written stays at the text editor and is visible once the editor is opened again.
    Open your contacts by choosing Names and select Options - More - Business card - Via text message and search the contact whose number you want to copy. After selecting the contact you'll get the phone number to screen and you can select Options - Editing options - Copy all.
    Now the number is copied for pasting and you can open the text message editor again and select Options - More - Modify text - Paste.
    Hope this helps.

    If you registered the product with Adobe (Version 12 and 13 required mandatory registration) then the correct serial number must be recorded in your Adobe account.  You can login and check there and also copy and paste the number to avoid any mistakes in reading the numbers.
    Good luck.

  • How can I set the Computer Serial Number as a Variable?

    Hey everyone, need some help here,  I need to get some data from a workstation using a script.  What I would like to do is "echo" the serial number of the workstation to certain spots in the data file.  The only way I know how to
    do this is by setting the serial number as a variable and doing a echo %SERIALNUMBER%.
    How can I do this?
    I found the WMIC key:
    wmic bios get serialnumber
    doesn't help much though.

    Hi usgrcm,
    What is your current situation?
    Will the scripts suggested by Frederik Long work here to meet your needs?
    Besides, regarding scripts issue, if any further help needed, we could also ask in Microsoft Scripting Guys forum:

  • Consecutive number in query

    Hi,
    i have a query where projects with some details are listed. In the first column i want to have a consecutive number. The first record (project) schould have the number "1", the second record the number "2" and so on. How can I realize this with query designer?
    thx,
    Robert

    Hi
    Drag and drop any existing key figure  that is in the query to columns section and  in the  properties Calculate single value as " Counting all Values ". Change also description like " increment by 1 " so that it will  have meaningful description for the keyfigure.
    Assign points if it is helpful.

  • Unknow number of binding variables in Dynamic SQL

    I have to use a dynamic sql and binding variables. The problem is the number of binding variable varies due to the form input.
    EX.
    if ( something is not null ) then
    query := query || ' and column = :column';
    end if;
    if ( something_else is not null ) then
    query := query || ' and another_column = :another_column';
    end if;
    When I use in my USING clause, I don't know which of the four combinations of column/another_column I could be
    open query;
    open query using A,B;
    open query using A;
    open query using B;
    How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

    Always with NVL:
    query := query || ' AND column = NVL(:column,column ) AND another_column = NVL(:another_column,another_column)';Invoke:
    DECLARE
      a_null CHAR(1); -- set to NULL automatically at run time
    BEGIN
      --open query
      open query using (a_null,a_null)
      --open query using A,B
      open query using A,B;
      --open query using A
      open query using A,a_null;
      --open query using B
      open query using a_null ,B;
    END;

  • Analyze table after insert a large number of records?

    For performance purpose, is it a good practice to execute an 'analyze table' command after inserting a large number of a records into a table in Oracle 10g, if there is a complex query following the insert?
    For example:
    Insert into foo ...... //Insert one million records to table foo.
    analyze table foo COMPUTE STATISTICS; //analyze table foo
    select * from foo, bar, car...... //Execute a complex query whithout hints
    //after 1 million records inserted into foo
    Does this strategy help to improve the overall performance?
    Thanks.

    Different execution plans will most frequently occur when the ratio of the number of records in various tables involved in the select has changed tremendously. This happens above all if 'fact' tables are growing and 'lookup' tables stayed constant.
    This is why you shouldn't test an application with a small number of 'fact' records.
    This can happen both with analyze table and dbms_stats.
    The advantage of dbms_stats is, it will export the current statistics to a stats to table, so you can always revert to them using dbms_stats.import_stats.
    You can even overrule individual table and column statistics by artificial values.

  • How can i insert to word number pages after 6 pages but considering the pages before

    how can i insert to word number pages after 6 pages but considering the pages before.

    I assume this is Microsoft Word, and you want the first six pages to have no footer, subsequent pages to have a footer showing the page number.
    1. Insert a section break after the first six pages.
    2. Insert page numbers. This will add a footer with page numbers to both sections.
    3. Unlink the section 2 footer from the section 1 footer. [Click in the footer area, uncheck Link to Previous in the Header and Footer toolbar.]
    4. Delete the page number from the section 1 footer.
    Your document will now show page numbering on all pages starting with section 2.

    The problem with doing it in Pages 5 is the bad search and replace which doesn't let you search for and replace invisibles.

  • Try: Assign The Error Number To A Variable

    Hi, All!
    I know there must be a way to do this, but I can't find it.
    In the 'On Error' part of a Try, is there a way to set the error number to a variable?
    So, I'd like it to look something like this:
    on error
    set errorNum to [the error number]
    if errorNum =
    Something like that.
    How do I do that?
    Thanks in advance!
    Any help much appreciated!

    The error number is a number, not a text string
