INSPECTIONPLAN_CREATE01: to store long text

Dear QM Gurus,
Here is my scenario:-
We have an external database which stores all the master inspection plans, master inspection characteristics and inspection methods. SAP QM is used to perform all the QM transactional data only. How we intend to bring the QM Master data over to QM is via BAPI or IDOC (not confirmed on the method yet)
We have a scenario whereby we need to replicate the test instructions from the external database into SAP master inspection characteristics. The test instructions are stored under the test plans in the external database. In INSPECTIONPLAN_CREATE01, we need to set the CHA_MASTER_IMPORT_MODUS = N - meaning we will not refer to the inspection characteristics into the inspection plan. Why? - because each inspection characteristics defers from each material in each plant. Thus we are not allowed to copy all the values from the inspection characteristics into the inspection plan in SAP
Is there a way for us to store the test instructions in the SAP inspection plan without copying over from the inspection characteristics via BAPI?
Please do let me know if the situation is unclear.

Dear Lyn
By using BAPI_INSPECTIONPLAN_CREATE you can create long texts in the header of the inspection , at the operation level  Inspection plan header or at the Inspection characteristics level.
Suppose you need to put the text in the Header of the inspection plan, Please follow the below steps
1) In the TEXTALLOCATION  - a) maintain object Type as 10 . These are the other option available for  you
10" Inspection plan header
"13" Operation
"15" Reference for reference operation set
"17" Production resource/tool
"19" Inspection characteristics
b) maintain the language & LINE_FROM and LINE_TO
The attributes LINE_FROM and LINE_TO are pointers to the corresponding text table, in which the current long text lines are to be transferred. LINE_FROM defines the first line of the long text. LINE_TO represents the last line.
2) in the TEXT field of the BAPI
You can maintain Line from to Line to for eg
1 The test method number is xyZ1234
2 The tedt to be conducted is at 100 C
...... so & so
40 Test is concluded with this step
so in the TEXTALLOCATION you can maintain LINE_FROM  as 1 and LINE_TO as 40
Hope this helps you
Regards
Gajesh

    Not that familiar with RTF, but you could try and create a field of type (x)string in your table and store the data there.

    With Regards,

    Excellent Eitan,
    Here is what I am trying to Achieve.
    In Create Notification IW21 , They need 5 Long Text in Custom Tab ( Say Tab Name is MBR ).
    TAB1 NOTIFICATION Standard Information , TAB2 REFERENCE OBJ , TAB 3 MalFunction , Breakdown Standard one...... TAB 7 ( Custom Tab ).
    In Custom Tab , I added 5 LONG TEXT ( its 5 WHY Concept ).
    When the User enters data in 5 Long text , it should store long text along with Notification number when save.
    But Notification number will be generated @ the time of SAVE , but before that its just shows as
    %0000000001 ( and Number will be generated 1000065479) at Save.
    How to achive this .
    I did this:
    Added 5 Custom Container. and In PBO / PAI
      PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
    MODULE STATUS_0100.
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    MODULE USER_COMMAND_0100.
    IN PBO
       CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR1 ,    CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR2,    CREATE OBJECT TEXT_EDITOR3 like wise 5
       CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR1->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE ,    CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR2->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE .. Like wise 5 , So when the user Click on Custom Tab ( MBR ).
    It give 5 Long text.
    When he click tab1 or tab2 or tab3 .. and again tab MBR , still data is available.
    How to store this data for future retrival ( IW22 or IW23 ) ?
    Its working fine when I enter first time and goes here and there and finall save .
    IN SAVE BADI , I imported the Long text and created Standard Text SO10 with Notification Number with LONG1 , LONG2 .. means 1000065479LONG1 as standard text.
    But not working when I entered first time and go to tab1 and tab2 and then to MBR tab and added few more lines , its not exporting full lines and in IMPORT ( SAVE BADI ) giving ZERO Lines.
    Please help and thanks for your quick response.

  • Custom Infotype with multiple long text fields

    Hi,
    We have a need to create a custom Infotype (in PA or PD) that will contain more than one long-text area.
    I've searched this forum and found that there are generally two approaches :
    1. use the HR clusters for long-text and setting the ITXEX field in PA
    2. using SAP standard text area (SO10) and functions such as READ_TEXT, SAVE_TEXT, etc.
    The problem with (1) is that it can only store one long-text.  We need to have many.  Please correct me if we can hold more than one long text in the cluster...?
    With regard to (2), I'm just not sure that this is the correct place to store the long text...?
    If I was to adopt option (2), could I just use the key of PA9nnn (ie: PAKEY) as the key/TDNAME for STXH?
    Are there any other methods to store long text?
    As well, is it possible to create a custom Infotype in PD?  Can we use PM01 to create PD infotypes?
    Thanks,
    Raj

    Raj
    Sorry I'm not much help on the two questions you have raised...you have probably already got answers by now anyway..however FYI check out link below for enhancing PD infotypes (use transaction PPCI).

  • Production order long text

    Hi,
                       I am using save_text function module to store long text in production order. The function module is returning sy-subrc as zero but the text is not displayed in the order. But when I use read_text function module to read the long text it is returning the value which I have passed in save_text. The problem is getting saved in the databas but it is not displayed in the order. Can anyone help in this regard?
    with regards,

    Hello everybody,
    I finally found a solution that does work in deed!
    After executing the function module "SAVE_TEXT", you have to execute "COMMIT_TEXT" AND do a commit work afterwards. In the end, the field LTEXT in table AUFK needs to be updated with the language key.
    Please see sample code below, where 12345678 represents the number of your production order.
    DATA: es_header TYPE thead,
          es_lines TYPE tline,
          et_lines LIKE TABLE OF es_lines,
          wa_aufk TYPE aufk.
    CONCATENATE sy-mandt '000012345678' INTO es_header-tdname.
    es_header-tdobject = 'AUFK'.
    es_header-tdid = 'KOPF'.
    es_header-tdspras = sy-langu.
    es_lines-tdformat = '*'.
    es_lines-tdline = 'Sample text line one'.
    APPEND es_lines TO et_lines.
    es_lines-tdformat = '*'.
    es_lines-tdline = 'Sample text line two'.
    APPEND es_lines TO et_lines.
    CALL FUNCTION 'SAVE_TEXT'
      EXPORTING

    * MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO

    Hi
    You need to create a table have a filed longer than 512 char, so you should use a field with a domain with type LRAW  or LCHR (it can be longer than 512 char):
    see the data element PC03_DSATZ for example.
    When you create your table, before this field you have to insert a field type INT4 where you'll indicate the lenght of your text.
    So your table should be:
    MANDT             key
    NAME (Text Name)  key
    ZLENG (Type INT4)
    TEXT  (type LCHR)
    Max

  • Long text for object type.

    Hi,
    Is there any table which stores long text for object type?
    I am fetching list of objects from table TADIR for particular user, I am getting objects as DOMA, TABL, PROG ..etc But I want long text for these object type for eg. Domain for DOMA, Program for PROG and so on.. Is there any method to get the long text for object type?
    Regards,
    Parshuram.

    Hello Vinod,
    Looks like the FM 'TRINT_OBJECT_TABLE' is tightly coupled to SAP CTS & hence the hard-coding! Also i don't see where the long text of the object is returned.
    On the contrary if you check the FM 'DOCU_READ' you've the table DOKTL which stores the long text(or the documentation) of the object.
    Btw, i'm not sure what did the OP actually mean by "long-text". Does he mean the documentation?
    Dammit! I get it now. Imho, "description" should have been a more appropriate word

  • How to store/manipulate Date and long text fields with Dictionary project

    I am able to save string values into my backend (SQL Server) database in my web dynpro project but I am getting errors dealing with my date string and my long text (comments) field.
    I want to figure out both how I need to define the fields in the dictionary project, how to define the context variables in web dynpro, and how to code the statements to pull the values out of the context and into fields I can use in my SQL insert.
    Currently I have the date defined in the dictionary project as "date" and the comments as a 256-character string.
    In the web dynpro context I have the date field defined as "date" and the comments field defined as "string".  Should I define a 256-character string type and use that as field type??
    In the code I am using the following to get the values:
         String s9 = (String) wdContext.nodeReceipt().getElementAt(wdContext.nodeReceipt().getLeadSelection()).getAttributeValue("Comments");
    String s5 = (String) wdContext.nodeReceipt().getElementAt(wdContext.nodeReceipt().getLeadSelection()).getAttributeValue("DateReceived");
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/mm/yyyy");
         try {
         Date dt = sdf.parse(s5);
         } catch (Exception e) {
              e.printStackTrace();
    I then try to insert all of my values with the following code:
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
      javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/SAP/BC_JMS");
      java.sql.Connection con = ds.getConnection();
      java.sql.Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
      stmt.executeUpdate("insert into AVD_GEN_REC(VENDOR,DATE_RECEIVED,TOTAL_PIECES,LOGGED_BY," +
           "ADDRESSED_TO,BLDG_NO,CARRIER,TRACKING_NO, COMMENTS) values('s1','s5','s2','s6','s3','s7','s4','s8','s9')");
       } catch (Exception e) {
             wdThis.wdGetAPI().getComponent().getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Exception "+e.getMessage());
    Any help/ideas would be appreciated...

    The comment error seems to have resolved itself but I still get an error with the date field:
    Exception The SQL statement "INSERT INTO "AVD_GEN_REC" ("VENDOR","DATE_RECEIVED","TOTAL_PIECES","LOGGED_BY","ADDRESSED_TO","BLDG_NO","CARRIER","TRACKING_NO","COMMENTS") VALUES ('s1','d5','s2','s6','s3','s7','s4','s8','s9')" contains the semantics error[s]: type check error: new value (element number 2) is not assignable to column "DATE_RECEIVED"
    The DATE_RECEIVED is defined in the data dictionary as "date", the context variable "DateReceived" is also a "date", and the statement to pull d5 is being stored to a "Date".  Is there a difference between the "Date" and "date"?
    Date d5   = wdContext.currentReceiptElement().getDateReceived();

    Hai ,
    here you have to use custom control, for this
    DATA: line(256) TYPE c,
          text_tab LIKE STANDARD TABLE OF line,
          field LIKE line.
    1)  Create custom control in your screen
    2)   CREATE OBJECT: container EXPORTING container_name = 'TEXTEDIT',   "--> (this is custom control name in screen)
                       editor    EXPORTING parent = container.
    3)  CALL METHOD editor->get_text_as_stream  "This method reads data from custom control , inserts into itab 'text_tab'
             IMPORTING
              text = text_tab.                                       "
          READ TABLE text_tab  INTO line INDEX 1. read the text into wa 'line'
    if you want more clarity , see  'ABAPDOCU' >ABAP USER DIALOGS>    COMPLEXSCREEN ELEMENTS-->  DEMO CUSTOM_CONTROL

  • Smart Form Long Text

    Dear Guys
    I am trying to print long text stores at line Item of ME 23n Text Editor, in Smart From.
    I am calling a BAPI for reading Purchase requistion details. The itab is also showing complete paragraph of text. But when I write it on smart from, previw is not showing complete paragraph. Infact many space is still left in smart form column.

    Thnx Subramanian PL for replying.
    When user writes text in ME23N text field, he normally use Enter Key many times to go to next line but while displaying it on a smart form using a loop the text also breaks unexpectedly due to those Enter Key press by user,while still there is more space to write the text in a sigle line on smart form.
    To avoid above problem I first store all the text belong to a single papragraph in a variable string of smart from. But now when I try to display this text on smart from it is missing few last lines. Infact while debugging it, I can see that text is stored completely in variable.
