Instalation DVD with Leopard+iWork09+iLife09 and latest updates

I want to install original leopard DVD + iWork09 + iLife09 then apply all updates my mac and from this point make a new installation DVD for future reinstallation's on this machine.
is this possible or not ? If yes how?
best regards,
Paulo

Your question was answered in the first reply. The answer is no, & it still applies if you exclude iWork 09 & iLife 09 & their updates. This is not just because of DVD capacity limitations. It is also because the installer DVD runs a number of checks on its contents, which would fail if you replace any of its installer packages with newer ones, & because the various packages are associated with "preflight," "postflight," & other script processes that would have to be changed as well.
IOW, the installer DVD doesn't just install a preset list of files; it goes through a complex process of checking, assembling, linking, & configuring the OS as it installs it, including creating default preference & other files appropriate for the target Mac.
It would not be impossible to alter everything involved to include the updated changes, but it would require a careful study of the interdependencies of the packages & scripts, modifying them as needed, creating new checksums, & so on -- basically, re-authoring the whole DVD. With tens of thousands of individual files being installed, this would not be quick or easy to do, & given the frequency of update releases, the results would not be worth it.
As suggested, a much more practical approach is to clone a freshly installed & updated startup drive -- IOW, to copy the end result of the installation process.
As for reinstalling the OS to get rid of whatever degradation of its performance occurs over time, assuming the file system & hardware are healthy, all you might need to do is empty the caches from time to time. Some of them grow quite large & there is a small performance penalty associated with the need to sort through some of them to get the appropriate cached data. However, since cached data speed up day-to-day use, you should not do this very often, at most a few times a year, or the result will be a net loss of responsiveness as the caches are repeatedly recreated & filled with needed data.
Also keep in mind that the net performance gain from 'cleaned' caches is small, so if you are seeing significant degradation of performance over time, you probably have some specific problem that needs to be addressed directly, rather than by the "nuclear" solution of reinstalling the OS.

  • Issues with flickering iPod Touch and latest update (5.0)?

I recently updated my iPod Touch 3G to 5.0.  Since updating, the iPod will shut off at will, sometimes flickering, sometimes going straight to the "slide to shut down" screen.  Sometimes it will shut down in the middle of an app, I'll start it back up, and it will shut down again immediately.  Occasionally, when I start it up after crashing, it will make the camera shutter sound!  And there's no camera on this iPod!
This also happened when I upgraded to 4.3.3. but eventually (over several weeks) stopped happening at all.  I wiped the iPod clean and reinstalled and all that did was wipe out my settings (of course).  Resyncing the iPod worked (apps and music loaded fine), but still it shuts down without warning.  I tried installing a new free app, which I read would help, but that didn't work.
Usually I'm pretty good at figuring out these sorts of issues, but I'm at my wits end.  My iPod is a little over 18 months old. Is anyone else having these problems?  Am I screwed?

Okay, so now I have read that you have to install a free app through the phone, not through the computer.  I've done so and it looks like everything is good for now.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  My question now, is that if this is a common occurance with the 4.3.3 update, why did Apple imply that I needed to wipe my iPod clean when this was the much easier and less invasive answer?

  • If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes?

    I have two questions...
    1) If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes? (because I don't have them)
    2) Has anyone ever seen anything like this before on their computers?
The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

You don't lose them.  You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.
    "Buy, download, and even redownload.
You can install apps on every Mac you use and even download them again. This is especially convenient when you buy a new Mac and want to load it with apps you already own."

  • No Install dvd with new Macbook

Hi I had purchased a new macbook (white) Wasn't I supposed to get a install dvd with it, I checked the box and there was not one in there. Everything I have read is that there is one that comes with it... Thank you Larry.

Yes. It should be in a small white envelope-like package. If you can't find it after looking through all the packaging, call AppleCare and ask them for a replacement.

  • Can I burn a DVD with Leopard?

I just purchased a new MacPro and it should arrive in about 2 weeks. A simple question. Can I burn a DVD using the OS or do I need a seperate software package to do this?
    I haven't used a MAC in about 20 years so I am a "newbie".

You can burn a data DVD with Leopard's Finder:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8398.html
    or Disk Utility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8729.html
and the Mac Pro also ships with iDVD which supports up to 2 hours on a 4.7 GB DVD, and over 3 hours on an 8.4 GB Dual Layer DVD.
Since I'm not as familiar with iDVD, you may want to post your question here if you plan on using it:

  • I think the DVD player reader on my Mac is going bad. Is there a way to copy the files off of an Apple Install DVD onto an external drive and then do theinstall from the external drive?

I think the DVD player reader on my Mac is going bad. Until I get it fixed Is there a way to copy the files off of an Apple Install DVD onto an external drive and then do theinstall from the external drive? It's ILife 11 if that makes a difference. Finder won't let me see the files to copy. I know - dumb question.
    Thanks.
    Bob

Adding an SSD is not a simple endeavour like adding additional memory or adding another hard drive to a Mac Pro. That's probably why the option is only offered as an option at the time of purchase. Even if your Apple store was willing to install the necessary parts you will probably be paying for 1-2 hours of labor plus the cost of purchasing the necessary service parts (SSD, bracket, cables, etc) which I suspect will make the upgrade cost much higher than what it costs to add the SSD option when purchasing a new system.
I use my system for business and need it to work reliably.  Even though I'm fairly handy with tools I would not be willing to risk damaging my system and voiding my warranty by opening my system and removing the logic board and several other parts in order to squeeze in an SSD option and attach the appropriate cables and brackets. I'm also not prepared to deal with the hassles of explaining why my system has unauthorized parts installed in the event I experience issues and need to make use of my Apple warranty. My time is valuable, so I would probably investigate external storage options, or if I needed the speed of an SSD, I would consider selling my existing system and then purchase a new system configured with an SSD.
If you haven't already done so I suggest doing a search on 'iMac SSD installation' to see what's involved. It might help you understand why the SSD option is not offered post purchase.

  • How to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3g or gPRS on safari with an iphone 4 and latest software updates

Please can someone help me to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3G or GPRS on safari with an iphone 4GS and latest software updates. I have tried resetting the network and phone settings. I have restored the factory settings on itunes and still the problem persists.

All iPhones sold in Japan are sold carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked by the carrier. If you unlocked it, it was by unauthorized means (hacked), and support cannot be given to you in this forum.
Hacked iPhones are subject to countermeasures by Apple, particularly when updating the firmware. It is likely permanently re-locked or permanently disabled.

  • Installing WorkFlow with ARES, Form Manager and Forms

    Hi All,
I'm having issues when trying to install WorkFlow with ARES, Form Manager and Forms.
    I've followed these steps:
    1. Installed Forms v. 7.1
    2. Installed Form Manager v. 7.0.1
    3. Installed ARES v. 7.0 (using a trust directory with a keyfile, etc.)
    4. Installed Workflow v. 7.0.1 with Turnkey option checked.
    5. Ran configuration manager.
The progress gets to 12% then displays the error code "LCMerror101" with the message "Livecycle module pdfagent-client could not be copied to working directory".
I don't know what this error means, can someone help me?? I know the issue isn't related to disk space (20+ gigs free) and I'm using the administrator account to install. Any suggestions or tidbits of info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stone.

  • Help with opening Adobe Reader and downloading updates

I can not open Adobe .pdf files any longer (this started yesterday, prior to that I could open adobe files).
When I double click a .pdf file I get this notice on my screen: Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file.
So I went to the Adobe download site to download a new copy of Adobe.  When I start the download I get this on the screen:  The instruction at "0x0e3a0068" referenced memory at "0x0e3a0068."  The memory could not be written.  Then two options are listed: click OK to terminate or cancel to debug.  So I click on cancel and I get this on my screen: Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer.   A malfunctioning or malicious addon has caused I.E. to close this webpage.
I don't have AVG running, I do have avast but I've disabled it.  I ran Registry Mechanic and an I.E. erasure program but nothing helps.
I have gone into I.E. and reduced the security level to its lowest state but no joy.
So, any ideas or suggestions on what's the problem and how to overcome it would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance, for your reply.  Jim R.

Hi Mike..tried that as well but no joy.  A friend of mine was looking at it all and noticed that it was an I.E. thing as far as not letting me redownload the reader so I went to Mozilla Firefox and I could download a new version but....whenever I attempt to open a .pdf file I get that message, "Windows can not open the specified device, path or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Damn...this is irritating as I need to get to some of thos files as I need them for a Journal I'm working on as editor-in-chief.
It all worked just fine last Saturday but starting Monday when I was on my flight out to D.C.  no joy.
    Sigh...Jim R.

Check the manufacturer website if the device is supported on Yosemite.
If not, you can get a SuperDrive from Apple which can run on any OS X version.

  • Backup of Leopard Install DVD with disk utility

I'm in the process of saving a disk image from the Leopard Install DVD, but I'd like to be sure I did it right by selecting the Leopard Install partition on the sidebar in Disk Utility, rather than the drive itself. I did so because when I tried it with the drive itself it offered a default name as the name of my dvd drive "Matshita" rather than anything specific to the disk.
I'd also like to be sure the windows drivers are there, so before I waste an hour burning and tossing the result, the question is do I select the drive or the partition to image?

Run the disk utility and select the disk and then select New Image. You will create and image on your desktop.
I used cdr rather than dmg.
I also used Toast8 to burn the image to a DVD
Be sure you are using a dual-layer DVD and your burner supports it.
I successfully burned a backup this way, and yes, it does contain the Windows drivers as well as Leopard.
