Install AM in JES WS container with JES WS installed using non-root user

Does anyone know how to make Access Manager work when the Sun JES Web Server is installed using a non-root user? Is this even possible?

Basically it is documented in JES install guide

Doesn anyone know how to allow slapd do dump core when running on linux(redhat as4) while being installed as a non-root user?
I have tried the normal route of setting core to unlimited and that user to unlimited also in limits.conf.
I can do a kill -11 $pid with an instance running as root to get a core but no luck with an instance as a non-root user.

I forgot to mention that I'm running 6.1.

  • Install Directory 5.2P4 as non root user.

I want to install Sun Directory Server 5.2 p4 on solaris 9 as non root user?
Is there a supported way of doing this. I dont want any of the files for directory owned by root.
The reason is that there is a very strict access control method implemented in their environment.
    The message i get is
    $ ./setup
arning: You are not logged on as root. Unless you are logged on as root,
information required to upgrade or uninstall this product will not be saved in
the system registry. This will adversely affect future upgrades/reinstalls as
well as the ability to perform a successful uninstallation. Manual cleanup
after uninstallation may be required in certain cases.
    Press Enter.

If you just want as said:
I dont want any of the files for directory owned by root.then its possible with DS5.2 P4 on solaris:
    1. become root user and start setup to install the DS5.2P4 software.
    2. When the setup application asks for server uid /server group id, give the non-root userid and group.
When the setup is finished ns-slapd process is started automatically. The only problem is that you have to be root user to re-start the ns-slapd daemon from the command shell. But the files are owned by the non-root user always as you required.
However this will not work if you want to restart the DS from the java GUI console. (however there is a workaround to do this).

  • Non-root user cannot umount a SAMBA share if there is "SPACE" with the

I already post this to the bugs report http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/9672, but I would like to see if someone in the forum can help.
    Description:
If there are "SPACE" in the SAMBA share name. Then, a non-root user can mount that share, but cannot umount it with "umount" command. It gives "mount desagrees with the fstab" error. root can mount/umount without any problem.
Also, user can umount the share by "smbumount" without any problem.
    Additional info:
    * package version(s)
    samba 3.0.28A-1
    util-linux-ng 2.13.0.1-2
    * config and/or log files etc.
    /etc/fstab
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Add a line in /etc/fstab as the following
    //QNAP-500GB/USB\040Disk\0401 /mnt/eBooks smbfs workgroup=GROUPNAME,username=xxxxxx,ip=xxxxxxxx,password=xxxxxx,noauto,noatime,users,rw 0 0
as you can see that SAMBA share name "USB Disk 1" was replace by "USB\040Disk\0401".
    2. Change UID of/usr/bin/smbmnt and /usr/bin/smbumount by
    chmod u+s /usr/bin/smbmnt
    chmod u+s /usr/bin/smbumount
    3. Change the ownership of the mount path for this SAMBA share to a non-root user by
    chown username:users /mnt/eBooks
    4. mount as a non-root user (username)
    mount /mnt/eBooks
    5. ERROR! if umount as a non-root user; NO ERROR if umount as root.
    [ning@HP-m8100y ~]$ umount /mnt/eBooks/
umount: /mnt/eBooks mount disagrees with the fstab
    6. This SAMBA share can be umounted by
    smbumount /mnt/eBooks

  • Installing agent as a non-root user?

Trying to install OEM agent on Solaris, from the OMS server, I get the following error when setting up the SSH Named Credentials.
"The agent installation cannot be performed as a root user. Ensure the user name in the Named Credential is set to a non-root user."
Does that mean I have to go around to all of my clients and create a special user just to run the OEM agent?
What are other people doing for this?

Well, we have thousands of servers and only a couple that have Oracle on them.
I went ahead and created an "oemagent" user, in group dba.
Then I gave it ALL permissions in sudoers.
I then had to run some SSH script on the OMS server that set up SSH configuration variables to talk to the client.
Then created an agent deployment directory (since you have to give it an empty directory to install to).
Then created an oraInventory directory and made the owner "oemagent" and group owner "dba".
Then I was able to deploy.
So it seems that, in order to deploy an agent to maintain a configuration on my clients...I have to write a script that will initialize the client first. So much for OEM taking care of all the provisioning/management!

  • Determining if RAC installed (as non-DBA user)

We would like to be able to detect, when our application is installed, what version of Oracle we are running on. The product_component_version view seems to give us what we need, but not having a RAC environment in-house, I can't verify if that information is available there.
Is it possible to tell if RAC is installed/configured from the product_component_version view, or if not is this information available elsewhere?
    TIA
    - DAP

I don't believe it is possible to determine whether a database is running RAC from the PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION view. At least I'm not seeing anything in the view on a RAC database that indicates it is a RAC database.
You could potentially query DBA_REGISTRY and look for a row where COMP_ID='RAC'. That will tell you whether RAC has been installed. You could also do a
    SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM gv$instanceto see how many instances are currently running. Which approach to use depends on whether you care that RAC has been installed (whether or not it is actually being used) or whether you care whether there are really multiple nodes configured and running.

  • In iPS 3.0SP3a, I would like to change the super-admin entry from root to a non-root user. The problem is I was able to install iPS as a pseudo-root however console will not let me in as that.

There must be a way to do this. Pls help.

    Hi,
Please Check whether the said unix user is already existing under any roles of the default-domain.
If so, delete the user from that role in the default_domain and then
Goto : Manage Domain > view Domain Administrator Roles > Admin Role > users
Create the non root unix user name .
Once you create the user profile for this under the role defined for super admin, you can access as super admin.

PS. I am on Mac OS 10.9.3

    Hi sethup,
Have you uninstalled Acrobat 8 before installing Acrobat 11?
Did the installation for Acrobat 11 go without any errors?
If yes then it might be an issue with the licensing. We might have to check the amt3.log file.
Do you face the same issue when you try to launch the application in the root user account as well.

  • Linux installing applications requires root password.

Can anyone explain to me why it is that on Linux, Air
requires a root password to install an application even if the
installation directory is specified as somewhere within my own home
    directory?
That it asks for a root password under such circumstances
seems very wrong. The application files are being written to my
home directory, I don't need to be root to write there and I do not
want files being created in my home directory with root as the
owner, as Air does when it installs an application.
Asking for the root password also means that users who have a
Linux machine that is administered for them by someone else and do
not have root are unable to install Air applications themselves
even if the administrator has installed Air on their
    machine.

First of all, on behalf of myself (and anyone else who has
been wondering about this particular detail of Adobe AIR) let me
thank you for your helpful reply. This does still leave me with a
    couple of questions, however...

the rpm/deb system database (e.g. rpm database lock). And this is
required even if the installation folder is chosen to be one that
is owned by the current non-root user. In addition, with root
privileges, it's also possible to install applications to a
location that is accessible to other users on the system.
I have confirmed for myself the accuracy of this information
and I thank you for pointing it out. While this does make some
sense on the surface, it does leave me wondering something about
the security level of this install process. When I install
applications from my Linux distribution's package sources, I have
GPG (or PGP) cryptographic key signatures ensuring that all the
packages are un-altered from their original form on the
distribution's package servers, and a team of programmers assuring
me that the code of these packages are (at least somewhat) safe as
far as they are able to tell. I am thus far unable to find
information leading me to believe that there is similar assurance
that I am not willingly installing unknown malware (keystroke
logger, spyware, etc.) disguised as a desktop widget (for example)
when installing Adobe AIR applications. As a code savvy user, I can
personally download and examine the code of many AIR apps to ensure
their safety myself before installing, but what about users who
understand code as well as they understand Martian language or
ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs? Is there any assurance process in
place for the average user similar to that of native distro
packages? If so, can anyone point me to where that is discussed on
    the Adobe pages?
Also, as an aside note; root privileges are not technically
REQUIRED in order to install an RPM package in a location which the
user already has write access to, as I personally have on many
occasions installed source code packages (SRPM) from my
distribution's package manager in my home folder while logged in as
a normal user (without the use of 'su' or 'sudo' or such) for the
purpose of building newer versions of the RPM packages which they
    correspond to.

applications run with the privileges of the user launching the
application and not root. The primary executables of AIR
applications (under the bin/ folder in the installation path) do
not have the setuid bit set. You should not be worried about AIR
applications running with root privileges, based on the fact that
their installation required superuser access - the two are
    completely independent.
This does still go back to the original point about the
security of the code itself which is being installed in the first
place. What quality assurance process is in place (beyond the star
ratings system on the application showcase site) to ensure that
malware was not installed (as root) and then happily being run by
all the users of a system while blissfully unaware of the capture
of their passwords or other personal information? (Again, an
example, and not the only such possible worry.) If such an
    assurance system
is already in place, where can I (and other AIR users) read
    more about it?
The reasons for this concern should be obvious when one
considers that a malicious application does not necessarily need to
be run as root to still do a great deal of damage on a system and a
sufficiently sneaky malware application could possibly even
obtain root privileges once installed on a system through
some other privilege escalation exploit. As an administrator of
multiple systems and networks, I have to be cautious about which
applications I allow on to a system or network for this very
    reason.
Please be aware that I am not making these points and asking
these questions to be a "troublemaker" or to shoot down the
achievements of the AIR team, or Adobe. To the contrary, I am very
impressed by the technology that I've seen so far and would
very much like to see AIR become and stay a genuinely useful
part of the web ecosystem on all platforms. As a matter of fact,
I'm personally reading a few different resources currently about
how to develop AIR applications in anticipation of satisfactory
answers to my few remaining concerns about AIR security worries. ;)
P.S.: If this forum was the wrong place to be discussing
these specific types of issues and concerns, please feel free to
point me toward a better place where such things should be better
covered and where like-minded individuals and groups might either
continue the discussion or resolve / close this concern entirely.
An IRC channel where AIR devs hang out maybe, or perhaps another
Adobe forum where security concerns are discussed, etc.? :)
Anyhow, sorry about the long rambling post. Thank you to
Ashutosh Sharma for your initial reply to this thread, and thank
you in advance to whoever may reply further and bring final
resolution to any remaining worries I and others may have regarding
these and similar potential security concerns. :)

    Dear Sir,

2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services User CAL (20). Downloaded this product key from our MSDN Subscriptions.
Kindly suggest me how to install (CAL server with product key that i have) and configure remote desktop services on my above existing server also how to point other server with my CAL server.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1. Install Remote Desktop Session Host and Remote Desktop Licensing Role Services using Server Manager.
    2. Open RD Licensing Manager (licmgr.exe), Activate your server, then install your license
    3. In RD Session Host Configuration (tsconfig.msc), set the Licensing mode to Per User and Specify your RD Licensing server name (itself).  If you want you may configure these two settings via group policy setting instead.  The path of the
group policy settings is Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Licensing
    4. You may point other RDSH servers to your RD Licensing server using RD Session Host Configuration or via group policy as mentioned above.
    5. Optionally you may consider installing other Remote Desktop Role Services such as RD Gateway, RD Web Access, RD Connection Broker, etc.
