  • ECC 5 Installation - Kernel DVD incorrect

    Hello,
We are installing ECC 5.0 IDES on MaxDB/Windows 2003 x64 server and are getting stuck with Incorrect Kernel DVD specified. We tried with Unicode as well as Non-Unicode options and gave all the downloaded DVD's but it seems all downloaded DVD's are not the right DVD's for this Kernel.
We tried the following Kernel DVD's and they are not correct:
    51030720_1 to 51030720_8
Can anyone guide us as which DVD is the correct DVD for Kernel that we can download:  6.40:UKERNEL:*:AMD64  ?
    Thanks,
    Sangita

    > So how can we have ECC5 on NT x64?
Read the installation guides and the installation notes mentioned within.
    > We are trying to install IDES and PI 7.0 on same system with MaxDB. Can anyone suggest alternative method of installing IDES with PI 7.0?
PI 7.0? That product does not exist. There is an XI 3.0 (based on Netweaver 6.40) and a PI 7.1 based on Netweaver 7.10.
    > We don't want to install ECC 6.0.
    You don't "want"?

  • Urgent: Installing SolMan 4.0 Non-Unicode - Kernel DVD trouble

    Hi all,
I have a problem here with the Kernel DVD's.. I am installing SolMan 4.0 non-unicode on Solaris 10/Oracle 10. When I am asked to provide a path to "Kernel NW04sSR1" media, I provide the path to media number 51032262 (SAP NW2004S SR2) which is the closest I get.. On this DVD, there is a folder called KN_SOLARIS_SPARC with contains a LABEL.ASC like this:
    <b>"SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL:SAP Unicode Kernel 700:SOLARIS_SPARC:CD51030xxx"</b>
The label that is requested by SAPinst is "SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL::SOLARIS_SPARC:"
Is this not the correct DVD that I am providing?
    Please help!
    Best Regards,
    Thomas Kjelsrud

    Hi,
I have the 51032263 DVD, which contains both the unicode and non-unicode kernel.
We have decided to go with a unicode installation of SolMan 4.0, but still I am having the problem with SAPInst requesting the Kernel NW04sSR1 DVD.. In my DVD-kit I only have NW04sSR2 kernel DVD.
When I try to specify the exact CD (KU_SOLARIS_SPARC) within the DVD I get this message: "You entered /tmp/d510302263/KU_SOLARIS_SPARC Unable to find a LABEL:ASC at location >< (Look for label SAP:AKK:700:UKERNEL::SOLARIS:SPACR:"
Please help, who can I contact as SAP with this issue?

Ans: Installation export and upgrade export is DB and SAP solution specific.
Yes , you can user solman installation export x_86_64 to install solman under HP-UX. Ensure that you are using appropriate
Installation master and kernel DVDs which are specific to HPUX.
    Hope this answers your query.

  • 10g Universal Installer kernel errors while installing on Solaris 5.10

    Hi all,
I have been trying to install Oracle 10g on a Solaris 5.10 machine (32-bit) as per the official Oracle Documentation for a couple of days now. It seems that the Universal Installer fails it's pre-installation steps and throws up error at the following kernel parameters:
Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<
Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256; found no entry. Failed <<<<
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
I have followed the Oracle Documentation which says to change the kernel parameters using the resource control facility. For this I already have a project "oracle" which the user "oracle" has been assigned to:
    $ id -ap oracle
    uid=100(oracle) gid=100(oinstall) groups=100(oinstall),101(dba) projid=100(oracle)
Following are the snapshots from the prctl command on the current state of the kernel paramters:
For Checking for shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    $ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 254MB - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny -
The Oracle recommended value is 4GB - I expect Universal Installer check to fail for this, so I change the parameter using the resource control facility by logging in as root in a new terminal and keeping one oracle session active.
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -v 4gb -r -i project oracle
I can see that the parameter has been set correctly when I do:
    $ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
    privileged 4.00GB - deny -
    system 16.0EB max deny -
For Checking for semsys:seminfo_semmni=100; found no entry. Failed <<<<
    $ prctl -n project.max-sem-ids -i project oracle
    project: 100: oracle
NAME PRIVILEGE VALUE FLAG ACTION RECIPIENT
    project.max-sem-ids
    privileged 128 - deny -

    ~ Somjit

    It is bug in OUI.
OUI is looking at /etc/system to check the kernel parameter settings, but this file is not used (by default) in Solaris 10
It should check the kernel parameter settings using the prctl.
    Check metalink note 363436.1
    workaround is to
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
or as You already did, change /etc/system as well.

I deactivated Acrobat 9 Pro from a Windows 8 laptop and installed it on a new Windows 8 laptop and got the error message "Invalid Serial Number." I am entitled to this installation, can someone help?

I see that the number in my Adobe Account is a MAC serial number – I purchased both the Mac and Windows versions of the program. I tried to enter the serial number of the Windows version into my account and it says it’s already registered. But when I installed the Windows version on a Windows computer I got the invalid serial number message. They have two different serial numbers! Can you help me with this?

  • How do I create system installation (bootable) DVD?

    I got a broken Macbook A1342 - cracked screen/liquid damage - fixed it to a working condition.
I have now a system booting nice to Snow Leaopard 10.6.8 with some previous user logged in...
Do not have a password for it, so even updating the current time is impossible now.
I want to swap a HDD to a bigger one and install a fresh copy of Mac OS X on it (possibly newer version?).
How do I create a set of installation/bootable DVDs so I can put new/empty HDD and install system on it?
Can a Macbook "clone" itself to a set of installation DVDs? What app should I use for this?
The other option would be to nuke the laptop to a factory default state, erasing everything which on there now.
I admint, I am a newbie. This is a first contact with a Macbook computer for me... Thanks for understanding :-)

How did you delete the file? It lives inside a directory owned by the OS. It isn't possible to delete it in normal circumstances without the admin password.
I deleted it by booting my laptop to a single user mode and issuing "rm" command line instruction.
No administrator password was required to delete this file! In fact, no password at all was required.
After deleting and rebooting, Max OS X asked me to create a new administrator account, which allowed me to access to EVERY file on this drive.
Sorry this has been common knowledge for a long time (ever since OS X existed about 15 years ago), it may seem shocking to you but the reality is the same on Windows & Linux. All consumer machines have tiny little cracks that can allow an experienced user a way in.
Single user mode means you are root. When someone has root on your machine - all bets are off - they own the system. No if's, ands or buts - they have won full stop.
I keep saying this in an attempt to make it 100% clear - when someone has physical access to a computer is is practically impossible to mitigate attacks like this…
The OS is stored UNENCRYPTED by default so any way to access the disk leaves it wide open to reading and modification. In addition, removing the disk from the machine can allow you access to EVERY file - defeating all permissions that the OS uses as a basic protection (when the OS is running).
The firmware is open to all startup keyboard combinations that can boot the machine from other OS's or make it mount on other machines (Target disk mode).
Hardware has features that allow direct RAM access (Google for 'firewire direct memory access attacks' - these also exist in Thunderbolt too). Passwords be stored in memory so the RAM modules could be pulled from a running machine (PC or Mac). Encrypted memory can mitigate this little hole to an extent.
The case has screws & can be opened so RAM can be ripped out & transferred to another machine for reading (Google for 'cold boot attack').
This list is likely to go on and on if you keep thinking about it.
    To stop attacks like this…
Add an EFI password - it stops all keyboard combinations & booting into single user mode.
Add full disk encryption - it stops the ability to read the disk even if removed.
The final items to overcome are the direct memory access attacks (glue up your Firewire & Thunderbolt ports). You can also set the machine to shut down & disable sleep/ hibernation.
If you are interested subject in this I'd recommend reading how the NSA goes about making a Mac 'secure' for it's agents… (basically crippling every feature that makes it convenient).
http://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/factsheets/macosx_10_6_hardeningtips.pdf They stopped releasing this info after 10.6, but a lot of it is still relevant, also see the iOS version if you use that.
    http://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/os/applemac/Apple_iOS_5_Guide.pdf
TLDR: Secure your Mac before you allow any chance of physical access.

  • Boot Camp Assistant won't read my windows 7 professional installation dvd, HELP!!

    Hi Guys,
For some reason Boot Camp Assistant won't read my Windows 7 Professional x64 Installation DVD? It appears in Finder, however there is only 1 readme.txt file on the disc in Finder. I had Boot Camp set up and working on my Macbook for almost a year but had to remove it and start again, so I can't understand why all of a sudden it can't seem to load any Windows DVD's? I even tried my Windows 7 Home Premium disc but again, the same message keeps popping up that I need to insert my installation disc and wait a few seconds for it to be recognised

  • Usb + firewire issues = kernel panic - help needed!!

Hello, and please forgive my english, I'll do my best!
So, i have a 1,25 Ghz MDD G4, with 2 x 256 Mo RAM sticks (at first), running mac OS 10.3.9.
As the original HD is too small, I work with my documents on an external firewire HD. The HD is plugged on a third party/PCI firwire card that went down.
On the same day I bought a new firewire card (trendNet, it was said to be mac compatible form mac OS 8.6) and 4 x 512 Mo of Ram (Hynix).
It worked just fine for a week and suddenly my mouse froze (and keyboard too > the mouse is plugged on the keyboard). Having no control on my mac (which seemed ok despite the usb deconnection) I had to hard reboot on the central Unit.
I unplugged the usb hub that occupied mu 2nd usb port (there was a wacom tablet and a flsh memory key on it). I left just the keyboard plugged (and mouse plugged on keyboard).
It was fine for... 2 or 3 hours and then it started again > mouse + keyboard deconnecting/freezing (the keyboard is a mac one, the mouse a microsoft one -optical-).
As the small red optical light of the mouse turns off when the mouse freezes I first thought the mouse or keyboard itself was the culprit.
I tested both of them them on a macbook and they worked just fine (never had a problem with them).
I ran disk utility, repaired the permissions. And it seemed better for a couple of hours.
When it happened again I unplugged the keyboard and plugged it on the 2nd usb port (which was free since I had unplugged everything else) > the mouse "came back to life" and I didn't have to reboot. But it happened again, like 2-3 times (every hour/half hour) until swapping the usb plug on the UC doesn't solve the problem anymore > hard reboot again...
    Then I tried EVERYTHING
booting with techtool CD > everything ok, no pb found
running onyx to empty the cash and rerepair the permissions > ibid, no pb
    resetting the PRAM with cmd-alt-p-r
    resetting the PMU
resetting the usb and firewire ports after each hard reboot
    cleaning the dust
removing my old scsi pci card (not used for ages)
moving my new firewire card on an another slot
    installing a firmware update
nothing has solved the problem... it seems to arrive randomly, but mostly (more frequently) when working with several apps open.
The cursor seems to freeze for very very short periods (as a warning!) until it freezes for good > it's exactly as if the usb didn't deliver any electricity for micro laps of time (and it is the case I guess as my optical mouse light turns off).
So I change the usb plug into the other port and it works for a while, just as if only one usb port was functional at a time, but it always ends with a hard reboot (no choice).
It's always scary but it's also very annoying as my Western Digital Mybook external drive refuses to mount on desktop after hard reboots... I have to unplug it, replug it, restart etc... well this HD is a pain but I guess it's because it's in FAT 32 (since I forgot to format it when I bought it). So I don't bother too much about the HD itself, but however it seems that the firewire card suffers from this : I have a lot of trouble mounting 2 disks at a time (but with all this I need to backup!). It's like the fiwewire ports (of the pci card) suffered from the same pain as the usb : one at the time! and when I finally mount both external HDs, if I unplug one (after unmounting it and switching it off) the computer freezes.
Then one day I opened itunes, and... kernel panic...
That was 4 days ago I think and I've had like 3-4 KP since then (one a day). These kernel panic happen just as randomly as my usb deconnexions...
Today I tried my last chance : removing the new Hynix ram and putting back my 2 old 256 rams.
It was ok for a pair of hours and then > mouse freeze and kernel panic again...
I reaaally need help, I don't know what to do anymore. I've spent my last week unplugging usb plugs, opening my UC, repairing permissions etc...
    now I feel helpless...
Here are some extracts of console logs I've had :
    some :

Is my mac dying?? Does all this come from defectible hardware? Is reinstalling a sysem a waste of time?

Hello, and please forgive my english, I'll do my best!
My complements on that. While I read the post quickly, it was only later that I saw you're in Paris....
Anyway, I'm not an expert on logs (system and panic ones), but from what I can tell there is a problem with the PCI USB/Firewire card you installed. It looks like it's the USB portion of the card; those are happing at startup when I'm pretty sure there's a kind of initial checking of the PCI cards.
May 14 22:57:42 localhost kernel: 0 0 AppleUSBCDCECMData: probe - provider doesn't want us to match
    AppleUSBOHCI0x1382800::MakeDevice error setting address. err=0xe00002ed device=0x1f16000 - releasing device

    2136.248 AppleUSBOHCI0x127f000 Watchdog detected dead controller (hcca #: 12727, hc #: 58749)
The panics show dependencies to USB and FW:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.apple.driver.AppleUSBHub(2.1.5)@0x539000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily(2.1.5)@0x471000
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
    com.apple.driver.AppleFWOHCI(2.2.10)@0x708000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(1.4)@0x398000
    dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily(1.8.8)@0x407000
The problems with the card at startup are probably creating an unstable condition, which in turn is causing kernel panics later on.
Basic things first, whenever you change the hardware setup, e.g. RAM and adding cards, it's a really good idea to reset-PRAM. Did you do that? Try that first, it's simple and easy enough to try.
If resetting the PRAM doesn't help, then try the new PCI card. I re-read your post a few times, but I haven't seen whether you tried removing the PCI FW/USB card to see if that helps. Try your mouse and some other devises on the native USB and FW ports. If you're stable, then it very well could be the card.
Of course there's also the question of the RAM, which you pulled without help. Again, after any change of the hardware (adding RAM, pulling RAM, adding/pulling cards, etc.) even during testing, reset the PRAM at startup.
With new RAM it's usually a good idea to test it, with say AHT CD or Rember. If you test, you might want to do this without the new card. It's a little tricky right now because you added 2 new pieces of HW (RAM and FW/USB card) either which or both could cause the problems you're seeing. OS X is picky about RAM, and the MDDs in particular are extremely picky about RAM as far as Apple HW is concerned.
Lots of kernel panics can eventually cause damage to the OS X installation. So in the end, it may be worth re-installing. But, before you take that route. Try the simple things like removing the PCI FW/USB card & testing, and testing the RAM. Take it one step at a time.
