Installation on oracle on linux
I m trying to install oracle 10r2 on linux but cannot execute the runInstaller from the cd but i cannot run it dont no why...:(
You cannot start runInstaller on CD, because to execute those files it need some swap memory.
does CD will contain SWAP memory?
do copy those onto any drive and then start runInstaller and also check the permissions on that folder
#chmod 777 -R /u01/oracle/.........
Thanks

Oracle Application Server 10g R2 installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5
Hi there ...
I want to install Oracle Application Server 10g R2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5. Can I get an installation instructions (or steps) for that?
Oracle installation guide mentions Suse 9 & 8 and Red hat 3 & 2. There is nothing related to Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 or 4?
ThanksYes there is one for 10gR3 too:
Note:465159.1 Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.3) Requirements for Linux OEL 5 and RHEL 5

Error during Oracle installation in Oracle Enterprise Linux
Hi All,
I was trying to install Oracle 10g in Oracle Enterprise Linux, and I'm getting the following error when I give the command *./runInstall*.
[oracle@localhost database]$ ./runInstaller -responseFile /home/oracle/database/response/enterprise1.rsp -nowelcome

OUI-10026:Depending on the Unix Shell, you can use one of the following commands as examples to set the DISPLAY environment variable:
- For csh: % setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
- For sh, ksh and bash: $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0; export DISPLAY
Use the following command to see what shell is being used:
echo $SHELL
Use the following command to view the current DISPLAY environment variable setting:
echo $DISPLAY

OUI-10027:To enable client users to access the X Server, open an xterm, dtterm or xconsole as the user that started the session and type the following command:
% xhost +
To test that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, run a X11 based program that comes with the native operating system such as 'xclock':
% <full path to xclock... see below>
If you are not able to run xclock successfully, please refer to your PC-X Server or OS vendor for further assistance.
Typical path for 'xclock': '/usr/X11R6/bin/xclock'
I have tried to set the DISPLAY variable to my IP address, but it still gives the same issue.
Please find the logs for the same:

Oracle 11g installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
Hi
I want to install oracle 11g on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
Do I need to set kernel parameters in this operating system, since it is not standart Linux editions.
or
Can I have a step by step documentation for installing oracle 11g on this operating system?Hello,
Yes you do need to set kernal parameters in order to meet pre-requisites, otherwise your installation will fail and oracle might not work or unstable.
Here is the best place to find out stepwise installation instruction and kernel parameter configuration

I want suggest you to investigate inside script '../unix/jvm.sh' searching for Java enviroment variables (it's possible that your enviroment is lacking of presence of some of them).
Good luck! -
I am trying to install oracle on Redhat Linux 9.0 With the kernal version of 2.4 but installation is Abounded at 0% and not carrying forward at all, I think some Of the parameter should be set on “.bash_profile”
Please tell me all the parameters should I set in my “.bash_profile” file to make my installation uninterruptedThere's a "RedHat Linux 9.0"? Since you did not mention which version of Oracle you want to install, I'll just point you to one installation guide for 10g. If you're using an older version, there are installation guides for 9i on this site too:

Oracle 11g on Oracle Unbreakable Linux
OK,
I have installed 11g on a new installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux 5. Everything seemed to go OK except the swap space was set to 2Gb and 11g wanted 3.4Gb. Yast installation problem on Oracle Enterprise Linux Rel 5 Upd 2
Hi,
I installed Oracle Enterprise Linux Rel 5 Upd 2 on a new server (Intel 64 bit) with the downloads from oracle
(Enterprise-R5-U2-Server-x86_64-disc1.iso till Enterprise-R5-U2-Server-x86_64-disc6.iso).
Then I wanted to install Yast for administering my machine and downloaded yast_el5_x86_64.tar, again from Oracle. Running the Yast install routine it required the perl-Digest-SHA package. I downloaded that from Oracle ULN and installed it.
Now, running the Yast install routine again, I get a bunch of warnings and errors about failed dependencies and NOKEY's.
Here I copied a part of it:

Installation problem oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5
hello support,
i've installation problems with oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5. In the section "ORACLE Net-Konfigurationsassisten" the failure "[INS-20802] Oracle NET-Konfigurationsassistent not success". What's wrong? I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
I've heard the problem can occur with problems in /etc/hosts? My /etc/hosts is configured:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 oracle localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
is this ok? what can I do to bring the database-installation to success?
Thank's for help ;-)

Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 Installation Fails during Disk Partitioning
Hi,
I've tried to install Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 by creating a Virtual Machine using Oracle VM Virtual Box in my laptop with Window XP host OS (NTFS filesystem), by following the below steps.
1) Installed Oracle VM Virtual Box
2) Created a new Virtual machine using a virtual box by specifying the two .iso images i.e OracleLinux-R6-U1-Server-i386-dvd.iso and boot.iso as the boot device and by specifying the following Disk files (.vdi) as follows.
2.1) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Root_Disk_1.vdi - For the / (i.e Root) partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
2.2) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Swap_Disk_1.vdi - For the swap partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - swap
2.3) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_User_Disk_1.vdi - For the /usr partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 20 GB - ext4
2.4) Oracle_Enterprise_Linux_6_1_Home_Disk_1.vdi - For the /home partition - Dynamically expanded storage - 10 GB - ext4
But while installing OEL 6.1 after specifying the partitions, the installer get hung and throws an error as bug while creating the ext4 filesystem on /dev/sda1.
I tried to specify the default 8 GB for all the above four partitions, the installer successfully continues without any issues. But if i specify any partition more than 8 GB, it fails.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem by creating the above specified partitions with the above size ? Why does it fail if i specify any size more than 8 GB ?
Thanks
Harish8 GB is a common limit for systems were the boot loader or system BIOS imposes an addressable space limit for the boot partition. In such situations, the system boot partition has to fit within the first 8 GB physical boundary of the harddrive.
Your setup seems a bit unusual. Why do you create separate disks for each Linux partition?
Normally the Linux installer creates necessary partitions on the disk, including a /boot partition that is usually only 100 MB in size.
What are you doing with boot.iso? You should be able to start the system from the main installation DVD or .iso image. You might also want to install x86_64 Linux, unless your hardware is really very old and does not support the 64-bit extension. You can run 32-bit software on a n 64-bit OS, but not the other way around and you will limit your software to 32-bit only. -

Installation of OracleAS 10g on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0
Installation of Oracle AS 10g on RedHat ES 3.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
Copy from OTN Note
Start
Oracle 10g is certified to run the base release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (Advanced Server and Enterprise Server) without updates. If you have update CDs, you can use the boot CD from the update instead of the boot CD from the base release to automatically apply all updates during the installation. All updates from Red Hat are supported by Oracle.
1. Boot the server using the first CD.
o You may need to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from the CD.
2. The boot screen appears with the boot: prompt at the bottom of the screen.
o Select Enter to continue with a graphical install on the console. (For other installation methods and options, refer to the Red Hat Installation Guide.)
o The installer scans your hardware, briefly displays the Red Hat splash screen, and then begins a series of screen prompts.
3. Language Selection
o Accept the default.
4. Keyboard Configuration
o Accept the default.
5. Welcome Screen
o Click on Next.
6. Mouse Configuration
o Accept the default.
7. Installation Type
o Select Custom.
8. Disk Partitioning Setup
o A thorough treatment of disk partitioning is beyond the scope of this article, which assumes that you are familiar with disk partitioning methods.
(WARNING: Improperly partitioning a disk is one of the surest and fastest ways to wipe out everything on your hard disk. If you are unsure how to proceed, stop and get help, or you will risk losing data!)
This article uses the following partitioning scheme, with ext3 for each filesystem:
The 9GB disk on the first controller (/dev/sda) will hold all Linux and Oracle software and contains the following partitions:
- 100MB /boot partition
-1,500MB swap partitionâSet this to at least twice the amount of RAM in the system but to no more than 2GB (32-bit systems do not support swap files larger than 2GB). If you need more than 2GB of swap space, create multiple swap partitions.
-7,150MB root partitionâ This partition will be used for everything, including /usr, /tmp, /var, /opt, /home, and more. This was done purely to simplify installation for the purposes of this guide. A more robust partitioning scheme would separate these directories onto separate filesystems.
9. Boot Loader Configuration
o Accept the default.
10. Network Configuration
o It is usually best to configure database servers with a static IP address. To do so, click on Edit.
o A pop-up window appears. Uncheck the Configure using DHCP box, and enter the IP Address and Netmask for the server. Be sure that Activate on boot is checked, and click on OK.
o In the Hostname box, select manually and enter the hostname.
o In the Miscellaneous Settings box, enter the remaining network settings.
11. Firewall Configuration
o For the purposes of this walk-through, no firewall is configured. Select No firewall.
12. Additional Language Support
o Accept the default.
13. Time Zone Selection
o Choose the time settings that are appropriate for your area. Setting the system clock to UTC is usually a good practice for servers. To do so, click on System clock uses UTC.
14. Set Root Password
o Enter a password for root, and enter it again to confirm.
15. Package Group Selection
o Select only the package sets shown here. Leave all others unselected.
o Desktop

24. Date and Time
o Set the Date and Time.
o If you want to use an NTP server (recommended), select Enable Network Time Protocol and enter the name of the NTP server.
25. User Account
o Create an account for yourself.
o Do not create an account for oracle at this time. Creating the oracle account is covered later in this section.
26. Red Hat Network
o If you want to use or activate your Red Hat Network account now, accept the default, click on Next, and follow the product activation instructions that accompanied your Red Hat product.

Then restart the computer
Login with Oracle user
now path setting as
I have done this by make two environment files
Infra.env
TMP=/tmp
Export TMP
TMPDIR=$TMP
Export TMPDIR
ORACLE_BASE=/oracle
Export ORACLE_BASE
ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/appsrv/infra
Export ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID=asdb (if u will not define SID here then while starting database u will face an error ORA-07217:sltn:environment variable cannot be evaluated)
Export ORACLE_SID
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin
Export PATH
PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin (u can include command paths like dcm as u needed)
Export PATH
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19
Export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
Copy this file with name as.env and change ORACLE_HOME from infra to as.
. ./infra.env
DISPLAY=localhost:0.0; export DISPLAY
Xhost +
Now u can check that DISPLAY is ok by run the command xclock if clock appears then ok else set DISPLAY with root user ok
Start installation from CD 1 .
. ./runInstaller
Press Y (There is no need to disturb, upgrade, degrade any package)
Press Y
Installation will start while installing and reaches at ~50% then go to /oracle/appsrv/infra/bin open relink file and change at line # 50 i.e. remove 2 brackets
] âo [ and at line # 102 make= /usr/ccs/bin/make to /usr/bin/make remove ccs and save the file
There will no error in installation in infrastructure
Same as done with relink file in Middle tier installation. I would like to turn ur attention for a serious problem no one asked about it. Here u have seen that a script make 3 file in /usr/local/bin for infrastructure and middle tier when u finished infrastructureâs installation plz rename that 3 files as
Mv coredb coredb-infra
Mv dbhome dbhome-infra
Mv ora ⦠oraâ¦-infra
If u overwrite that files by creating same name of middle tier files no problem.
When problem comes?
AS will work fine but when u have to install patches on AS then problem comes if u have overwrite that files. So plz rename them before creation of same files of middle tier. Thanx
