• Oracle 11g installation on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.

Hi
I want to install oracle 11g on Oracle Enterprise Linux, 64bit version.
Do I need to set kernel parameters in this operating system, since it is not standart Linux editions.
or
Can I have a step by step documentation for installing oracle 11g on this operating system?

Hello,
Yes you do need to set kernal parameters in order to meet pre-requisites, otherwise your installation will fail and oracle might not work or unstable.
Here is the best place to find out stepwise installation instruction and kernel parameter configuration

you should mount and then open the database
if you are using spfile
then issue
SQL>startup
database mounted.
database opened.
or
SQL> startup nomount pfile='location'
database will be in nomount stage
SQL>alter database mount;
database mounted.
SQL>alter database open;
then you can issue your command..

• Problem on Installation of oracle on Linux............

I am trying to install oracle on Redhat Linux 9.0 With the kernal version of 2.4 but installation is Abounded at 0% and not carrying forward at all, I think some Of the parameter should be set on “.bash_profile”
Please tell me all the parameters should I set in my “.bash_profile” file to make my installation uninterrupted

There's a "RedHat Linux 9.0"? Since you did not mention which version of Oracle you want to install, I'll just point you to one installation guide for 10g. If you're using an older version, there are installation guides for 9i on this site too:

• Error while connecting to Oracle in Linux

I wrote a JAVA program to test the connection with Oracle. It worked in NT environment, but it did not in Linux Environment. I got the error message: "IO exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection."

• URGENT!Stuck while installing the Oracle apps 11.5.8 on Windows 2000 Server

Hi All,
I am installing the Oracle applications 11.5.8 on windows server 2000 using the rapid install 11.5.8.11(which was part of the cd pack).
I am using the Windows CD Pack(which consists of 19 cds)
To start with, it has passed all the pre install checks(including the utlity check, system check etc), every thing was succesful and then I started the installation.
And then I started installing, I inserted 1 cd at a time. Every thing went smoothly until the 5 cd. While processing the 5th CD, it started spawning the dos session and was trying to connect to the created database. And it was not able to do so.
I could see from the status bar that it was trying to run the scripts like adlicnse.sql, adclobtmp.sql ,adclobconv.sql
and throwing the following message
ora-01089: immediate shutdown in progress
and was asking me to enter the user name . When I entered the username and password, it throws the message saying that
"ora-01089: immediate shutdown in progress".
After such unsuccesful attempts for each of the above mentioned file, I finally go the "Oracle Applications Rapid Install Wizard Alert"
displaying the below message.
Error code received when running external process.
Check log file for details.
Running Database Install Driver for PROD instance.
and then with the "Retry" and "Abort" buttons. When I pressed the retry button, still get the same message. (And I did not find any log file to look for).
Please let us know what are we supposed to do now and what is the exact reason why it is not able to connect to the database.
I have not tampered with any of the files. This is a urgent requirement for us to install the oracle apps, please help us immediately and any help is widely appreciated.
Thanks.

your problem is not very unusual... I also faced the similar situation cpl of times when Oracle was not able to continue the installation coz the Immediate Shutdown was failed. Actually During the installation, Oracle mounts/opens the database and shuts it down many times and few times, Oracle is unable to shutdown cleanly as some process is hanging or not responding.
Piece of advise is that always use staging area to install Apps as it takes long time on Win2K (anything between 4-12 hrs) to install it and CDROM Access is lot slower than HDD. Also, it will prompt u every time to insert tbe CD. All this hassle can be bypassed by using the staging area. Read the Installation help document on how to create it.
For failure reasons, look in ur installation log file which is created in the default Temp folder usually C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for WinXP or C:\winnt\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for Win2K.
post or email me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further help/details.

• Installation on oracle on linux

I m trying to install oracle 10r2 on linux but cannot execute the runInstaller from the cd but i cannot run it dont no why...:(

You cannot start runInstaller on CD, because to execute those files it need some swap memory.
does CD will contain SWAP memory?
do copy those onto any drive and then start runInstaller and also check the permissions on that folder
#chmod 777 -R /u01/oracle/.........
Thanks

• OUI stuck during installation of Oracle?

Hi all,
I am attempting to install Oracle 10.2.0 onto a brand new Solaris 10 server. I got as far as running through the OUI interactively and all was going well, right up until I got to the Configuration Assistants screen. It listed 3 assistants, ran through the first (Oracle Net Config Assistant) install no problem and marked it as successful. It then started on the second one (dbca) but this then stayed marked as In Progress for the next 6 hours, at which point I manually stopped it (with the intention of trying to find out the issue and retry). The problem then was that the OUI screen froze completely and I had to stop the process in task manager on my PC.
So now I am left unsure as to how to carry on. Do I need to somehow conmpletely back out of my install and start again, or can I just get back to that screen and try it again.
Here is the last excerpt from the log, and the error file produced. I can't see an obvious error.

I am wondering if this means my install has literally done nothing yet?
The install log I can find is in /tpp/oracle/oraInventory/logs and is the log I have posted in my above message.
Could this be more to do with my xwindows session freezing or something? It just seems odd that it does it at the same place in the install each time but there are no obvious error messages. I left it for 10 hours yesterday before having to kill it.
Today I am going to attempt to run it interactively on the server itself, without using the xwindows connection.
thanks again for yor help.

• Oracle 11g on Oracle Unbreakable Linux

OK,
I have installed 11g on a new installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux 5. Everything seemed to go OK except the swap space was set to 2Gb and 11g wanted 3.4Gb. The documentation I found on ONT said that was fine and normal as the default install gives only 2Gb. I created a startup DB of JSI. I can connect to is using sqlplus user@JSI. However, when I try to connect using ..... $ sqlplus user/password@host:1521/JSI I get this error....
ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA
I am also having other issue but want to look at the one at a time to see if on fixes the other.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. Here is what I get when I give the lsnrctl serv...

Hello,
Any good tutorial available for installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux in Virtual Box?
Regards

Installing Oracle on Virtual box is similar to the one you install on regular Linux box.
just make sure u have enough memory assigned for VMbox..
create user, group, directories and change permissions
change profile
change all the kernal options listed in install guide and ur good
