Installed components in 8.x

I'm trying to find the components installed in the 8.x database. I know I can find this information in the dba_registry table in 9.x database. Where would I find the same kind of information in 8.x

  • Check what oracle installed components are actually being used in database

I have been allotted a new database which I have to optimize. So I am thinking about removing some installed components which I think are not being used in any way in database (i.e procedures calls etc). I can see a whole lot of components like "SDO","ORDIM" which I think are not being used but previous DBAs have installed them. So, is there any way to ensure that no part of database are actually using these components so that I can remove these components. Also ,what are your expert comments about this?

Is this a production or a development environment? If an object isn't being used then it's not necessarily a problem (performance wise) unless it's cluttering up either your dictionary or raising concerns in regards consuming unnecessary space. Personally I'd recommend that it's better to tune what is being used / taking resources. It may be a once a year report or some old utility pulled out once a year, best check why these things are there.
If you go down the dropping route, rather than drop anything immediately lock accounts for an agreed period of time to make sure that the schema isn't used & check any references from other schemas to objects within the schema that you're planning to drop, potentially audit these to check whether they're being called by other schemas / checking dba_dependencies between schemas & objects using a hierarchical query to check sublevels.
There are also quite a few Oracle standard components that are installed by default that have interdependencies and won't necessarily be used in the dictionary (checking dba_features_usage_statistics)

  • ITunes update to 4.0 requires checking 32-bit mode in "Get Info" window. No such checkbox exists. iTunes refuses to launch. iMac 27-in., Mac OS 10.6.8. Tried re-installing iTunes 4, but went into infinite loop while in "Registering Installed Components"

After updating to iTunes 4, launching the application indicated that 64-bit mode was only available in Mac OS 10.7 Lion and to use in 32-bit mode by checking the 32-bit mode checkbox in the iTunes "Get Info" window. However, this window does not have the aforementioned checkbox. Thus, iTunes is now unusable.  Tried to download fresh install from Apple site, but this process went into an infinite loop during the "registering installed components" phase of the installation. Had to force quit. System is iMac 27-inch, Core i7 processor, Mac OS 10.6.8.  Is there a problem with iTunes 4? Can I go back to the previous version? Thanks.

Ah! I found several other people with the same problem in this forum. I followed the suggestion to move iTunes 4 from the "Applications" to the desktop and launch it from there. It worked! I moved it back into the Application folder and its still okay.  Thanks!  This is a definitely a bug that Apple needs to address quickly.

You seem to suspect that it could be connected to your Symantec Security. Why don't you try disabling Symantec and see if that makes any difference.

  • Versions of installed components

    hi,
is there a way to learn all oracle components versions?
i have middle infra and business tiers installed and always looking up different places to get versions of components.
is there a way, a script, an sql or a link in EM ie. that one can learn the version of all installed components including for example database, discoverer, app server, portal etc.

    Hi.
If you install a suitable version of the opatch utility from the OTN website, you should be able to get acomplete list of components registered in the Oracle inventory using a command like:
    $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory -detail
    Cheers

  • Uninstall pre-installed components such as Youtube

It might sound very strange, but I want to delete some of pre-installed components.
I know it's supposed to be a toy, but, I also want it to be a productivite tools and don't want to waste time browsing Youtube. How can I delete it. Would deleting the icon work? or delete it entirely.
    I know I won't miss it.

No, you can't delete any of the pre-installed components. However, just because they are there doesn't mean you have to avail yourself of them.

  • Finding Installed Components?

I just installed a small program and it made a mess of things. The developer does not supply a list components, so I used EasyFind to locate items that have the program's name; but, am aware many installed components do not share a program's moniker.
The many 'undelete' programs also miss things, so I want to take a more direct route.
Is there a way to use EasyFind to track what's recently been installed – arranged by time and date? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Whew, tough one, but sort of... enter a dot in the search criteria, sort by date modified... files & folders, case insensitive, show hidden.
Another way is to look through the installer for things.

  • How can I design my LabVIEW app to behave differently based on installed components?

    Howdy all,
I've got a program that is complete, and offers some basic service. Advanced users will have the option of additional functionality. When users decide to use this program, they decide what capabilities they want - whether it provides just the base functionality, or if it has the advanced functionalities. The additional functionality relies on the installation of an additional LabVIEW component. In this case, the base package requires simply the LabVIEW(7) runtime engine. However the additional functionalities are vision related and require the installation of the IMAQ Vision 7 Development Module. I would like my program to detect the installation of the vision module
on the user's computer, and give the user access to these vision functions ONLY if the vision pack is installed. (ie, I don't want to have two versions of the program - the user only installs one complete version, but some components will be hidden if they don't have the vision module)
Currently, this program checks the Window's system32 directory for the presence of the imaq.dll and the nivision.dll. Right now, this system *sort of* works on most computers, but if the user has their windows installed in a non-standard windows directory (say they installed windows to "windoze" or something other than the standards like "Windows" and "Winnt")
Does anyone know of a way to programmatically detect the installation of the Vision module? What I'm doing right now would work in 95% of the cases (I think) if I could nail down the root windows directory (which I'm pretty sure is stored in the registry for all Windows versions, but the name of the key depends on the version of windows, a
nd I would rather not go down that road)
Any help, stories about similar situations, etc., would be appreciated.

    Vitrick and Andre -
Even better might be to use one of the Windows API calls
"GetSystemDirectory" or "GetWindowsDirectory" located in the KERNEL32.DLL.
See MSDN for documentation of the calls.

  • Installing components using auto-generated plans from Jython CLI

    Hi All,
for specific reasons, we want to install a set of components with fixed signatures from Jython CLI, but without appropriate plans. In fact, we want to simulate the behavior that we know from Plugin UI, i.e. linking directly to an installer of a component.
We figured the following steps are necessary within CLI code:
    1) For the targeted component generate an appropriate install plan using 'pdb.p.genplan' command. This unfortunately does not create the plan within the system, but rather has to be redirected to a file.
    2) Import the previously generated plan using 'pdb.p.ci' command from this file.
    3) run the plan using fixed signature to install component
    4) eventually remove the plan.
Now, the problem is, that step 1) generates a plan targeted for the folder '/system/autogen', but step 2) fails on importing the plan there, because the folder is owned by the system plugin. So we would end up parsing the XML file, replacing path and so on .... We definately don't want to reinvent the wheel, here.
    Any help appreciated!!!
    Regards,
    Frank

First of all, thanks for the super-fast reply.
We got around with parsing using the xml.dom.minidom package in Python. Three more lines and poorer performance, but nothing you can measure against the CLI performance itself ;-)
I like the idea of using a template plan, as you suggested, because the generated ones bear another problem: We have to pipe in the plan parameters, which we don't know for sure, except for one, that is the 'markOnly' flag. So this might get us around piping in stupid dummy params.
How exactly do you wait for the plan completion? We use 'pe.p.lo', but don't know how to figure out, if it was successful or not, at all. No return code this time, and stdout isn't filled in markOnly=true mode.
    Regards,
    Frank

  • Installed components different in SLD than JSPM.  Why?

Solution Manager 40 installed ABAP+Java stacks, SLD configured and seems to work.  SMSY_SETUP can talk to SLD.
When SLD collects component information from Java AS server, the list of components differs (a subset of) from the list JSPM provides. which in turn is not the complete list (misses items that have never got patched.  In SMSY I would like the list of java components to be complete and up-to-date (automatically).
For example I have installed IGS 700 pl 5, wily introscope environment manager (no patch level) and J2EE cre tools pl 9 (plus others of course  - this is just a sampling of one component from each category).
In SLD I see just J2EE CORE TOOLS at pl 9.
In JSPM I see J@EE CORE TOOLS pl 9 and IGS pl 5.
In SMSY (after running SMSY_SETUP) I see just what is in SLD J2EE CORE TOOLS SP 9.  Any components in SMSY not in SLD get deleted after running SMSY_SETUP.  Is there any way to get SLD to maintain the complete list or revent SMSY_SETUP from deleting components?

Ah haaaa... I found other posts with answers. You "sign out" of your iTunes account and that did it for me. Nobody seems to tell you how to do this, so here's how: Find "SIGN OUT" under the "Store" drop-down menu in iTunes and click on that. If you want to buy things later you'll have to sign in again (same menu) and the only hassle is having to re-enter all your payment information.

    Hi There,
Looking at the log files indicates that you already had "Reviewer" and "Quiz analyzer" installed on your machine from the previous installation of Captivate. "Adobe Captivate Reviewer" and "Adobe Captivate Quiz Results Analyzer" are installed as a separate component when you install Captivate. Even if you uninstall Captivate then also you need to uninstall these two separately. I think in your case you already had Captivate before on this machine. If that is the case then you can ingnore these errors and continue to work. You can also verify by launching the above two components separately and see if they are working.
