Installed Lion, Outlook 11 for Mac won't send email anymore

Hey all - I installed Lion but now my work Microsft Outlook 11 accounts won't send email...looks like they receive though. Happening to anyone else? Any ideas on a fix?

In Finder you have to go to your user account's library, which Apple hid in Lion.  You can still get to it by using the "Go to Folder" option in the Finder>Go menu.
In the dialog option that comes up, type in ~/Library
Inside the library is a "Caches" folder, and inside that folder is one called ".com.microsoft.outlook"
Try deleting that?  As always, make sure you have a good backup before deleting anything in the library   Hope it helps!

    Hi Mick209
I am in the UK and eventually found the problem was due to my BT Home Hub Router.  Not sure where you live, but of you are in the UK, this might work for you.
I found this fix below on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4604180?start=15&tstart=0
It worked for me.  If you can't link to the URL, here is the body of the text
There's an issue related to the BT homehub that is providing a hostname that is "syntactically incorrect" for several smtp server.
Here's how you can fix it.
Using your internet browser, go to the address "192.168.1.254
    - Follow instructions to reset your password if asked.
    - Then go to "Settings", then "Advanced Settings" and "home network"
You will see there all the devices that are connected or that has been connected before. It's gonna be easyer if yout computer is the only one connected.
Your computer should have a name like "unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ...
Click on this name, chose another name without any special characters, like "macbook" for exemple.
    And then click on "apply"
    - restart your computer.
    That should fix the issue.
Credit goes to vincentfromcork for providing me with the solution.
If it works, spread the word :-)

  • Outlook for Mac won't retain restored email database.

    Hi all.
A couple of days ago I performed an export of what I thought was just pre-2014 emails from my Outlook for Mac 2011 program.
I turned out that all the emails were exported and, for some stupid reason, I had clicked the "delete" button during the export process so they all went.
The export file is around 2.5GB, which seems about right for the number of emails that were exported.
The problem is that I've been unable to import the emails back into the program.  The instant error message I get says: "Outlook did not import an all your data. You stopped the import process before it was completed."
This happens even though I don't actually do anything.
Now this is where it gets weird, I have done two complete reinstalls from my Time Capsule. On both occasions, all my email reappears in the inbox, but then as soon as Outlook starts to sync, they begin to disappear.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can permanently restore my old emails?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    I'm using OS X 10.8.5

  • Outlook for Mac won't download to my inbox

Can't get e-mail to download to Outlook for Mac on my iMac. Works fine with the same settings on my MacBook. Not sure why it's being blocked... Outgoing mail works fine, too.

    Hi Dustin.
Other mail clients such as Thunderbird appear to be perfectly capable of downloading mail in circumstances that Mail has trouble with, but I don’t know whether it’s Mail’s fault or there is really something amiss at the server and those other mail clients are just more fault-tolerant.
Sometimes messages left on the server clog up the account there, or Mail chokes on a message it cannot download and that prevents it from downloading the rest as well. What are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings for this account?
You may try first removing from the server messages that have already been downloaded. Assuming there is nothing wrong with the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file (or if you’ve already re-created it), you can tell Mail to remove from the server all messages already downloaded by doing Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove now. Alternatively, you may remove specific messages by other means (e.g. webmail or the Account Info window).
If removing already downloaded messages doesn’t work, the next thing to try would be removing messages that Mail hasn’t downloaded yet (you may want to try to download them with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them). In particular, try removing the first message that Mail appears to be choking on. Actually, if there is a message on the server that Mail has trouble with, you may be able to identify it in the Account Info window. Don’t assume that it’s junk just because Mail doesn’t display it properly in that window, though. Try looking at its contents by other means (e.g. webmail) before removing it from the server.

  • Mac's cant send email anymore

Hello All, hope this is the correct forum to post this issue.
    Windows / Mac network
I’ve been sending email with Mac’s and PC’s without a problem for years.
Email is received via pop3 and sent via SMTP port 25.
The network firewall is set to allow any LAN to WAN traffic to pass though.
This setup has worked fine for at least 2 years.
Within the last 2 weeks the Macs have stopped sending emails, still receiving mail but not sending mail.
Sending and receiving email from the PC’s works fine without any problems.
When I check the firewall logs they say the SMTP traffic is passing through.
When I disable the firewall, sending email from the mac work fine.
You would think the firewall would be at fault, although no settings have changed on the firewall to cause a problem. Emails sent from the macs up intill 2 weeks ago had no problem with the firewall.
Is it possible the mac’s would have downloaded a software /OS update to cause this problem?
We have tried setting up the email on a brand new mac straight from the box, the sending problem still occurred .
Has anyone heard of a problem like this?

Sending a mail using their web interface is different than using a client (like your Mac's Mail, or Entourage, etc.)
There are settings in Mail's preferences that have to match your ISP's criteria, exactly.
Look at your MailPreferences, and see if you find the settings that match these steps. This is from the FAQ at WowWay:
Here is critical information you will need to set up your e-mail account:
    Type of Incoming e-mail server = POP3
    Location of Incoming pop3 server = pop3.mail.wowway.com
Location of outgoing SMTP server = smtp.mail.wowway.com
Your account username = the first letter of your first name, followed by your entire last name, followed by the LAST four digits of your account number (e.g. jdoe9251)
Your account password = the last six digits of your account number (e.g. 229251) Note: your account number can be found on your monthly invoice or on your installation work order.
To setup your email in Outlook Express; please follow the instructions below
    1. Open Outlook Express then, click Tools, then Accounts
    2. Select the Mail tab and click Add, then click Mail. The Mail wizard displays
    3. Enter your Display name and click Next to continue in the wizard.
    4. Enter your Email Address and click Next.
    5. Enter the following settings, and then click Next:
    6. Incoming Mail POP3: pop3.mail.wowway.com
    7. Outgoing Mail SMTP: smtp.mail.wowway.com
    8. Select the Remember Password option and enter your Account Name and Password. Then, click Next.
    9. Click Finish

  • Lost my Outlook for Mac 2011 and all emails, calendar, etc. after moving and trashing some files

I followed some suggestions for improving speed and ran the EtreCheck and removed some items.  I didn't touch anything Microsoft or Outlook related. My mac got hung-up last night when I was trying to put it to sleep so I had to force quit some programs, one of which was Outlook, and then I shut down the mac rather than sleep mode. This morning I no longer had any of my emails, or my calendar, or excel files, etc.  I couldn't get any new emails because it said the server did not recognize or acknowledge my user accounts or passwords.  I went to the ISP's website and all my accounts/passwords were correct and active as I was still getting them through my iphone and ipad.  Can anyone help me?  I can provide the latest EtreCheck and system log showing the warnings, failures, errors, etc. if that helps!

  • After installing ios 7 my iphone won't send emails, any fixes?

I have followed the suggestions and deleted the email account and then set it back up using the same settings.  I have also tried rebooting my iphone 4s and that didn't make any change.
It was always really slow sending emails (2-3 minutes or more), but now it won't send them at all.  I know my email works as I also use it on my laptop and I am receiving and can send emails from the same account.

The error that comes up says "Cannot Send Email - the onnection to the outgoing server "mail.persona.ca" failed.  Additoinal Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contact, Calendars"

  • Outlook for mac using exchange displaying emails in chinese and dated 10 years ahead

ok so i have a new to me but used macbook pro and i have set up my 4 email accounts on it. I have 2 set up using imap and 2 using exchange. The impa are working perfectly. one of the exchange is also working perfectly also but the second one is not. It is setting up fine but when it is retrieving new emils it is bringing them in to my inbox in chinese and also they are dated in 2018, each new email that arrives it addes on a extra year to the date with a ramdom day and month.
Any ideas why this would be happening?

This may indicate an encoding mismatch, utf-8 being read as if it were utf-16, probably a glitch with exchange for that account.

  • In Outlook for Mac, when writing an email, underscores make italics.

When writing an email, when I underscore on either side of two w's, the underscores disappear and the w's are italicized.  Frustrating, because my new business email has two underscores on either side of two w's, so I can't enter my address in the body of the email.  Any suggestions?

You can turn it off under Outlook's preferences. Click on AutoCorrect then AutoFormat. Uncheck the box that says "Bold" and _italic_ with real formatting"

  • Mavericks causing errors in Outlook for Mac

Since installing Mavericks, Outlook for Mac 2011 is having problems with pop mailboxes on three different servers.  Connection errors are being reported avey ten minutes regarding server timeouts, connection has been dropped, server not found.  Prior to install there were only sporadic messages like this, mainly with IMAP connections.  This time, IMAP connections are not causing the errors, but all my different POP servers.  Is anyone else having these problems?

Seach is based on Spotlight index. Mavericks should have re-indexed your entire drive after installing. If it's still running you might want to see if search starts working in Outlook. Otherwise you need to reindex your entire drive. This can take overnight.
You can tell if it's still in progress by simply looking at the Spotlight menu: There's a blinking dot in the middle of the magnifying glass while indexing is occurring. You can also open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and type in md in the search filter. You should see mdworker32 and mdworker. The mdworker32 is the Outlook Spotlight index and mdworker is for system.
Until this process is finished, Spotlight won’t know the contents of your disks and neither will Outlook. All lists like contacts, events, notes etc. are generated by the Spotlight searches.
Rebuilding should never be done to fix issues like this. Rebuilding can result in data loss.
HOW TO RE-INDEX YOUR SPOTLIGHT CACHE FILES
    Option 1)
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    *  Click Spotlight.
    *  Make sure Messages & Chats is checked under the Search Results tab.
    *  Click the Privacy tab.
    *  Drag your drive and/or Identity to the list. Wait a couple of minutes.
    *  Remove the item you added.
    *  Spotlight will re-index the contents of the item you initially dragged to the list.
    Option 2)
In Lion/Mountain Lion, there is an additional Repair Permissions application utility hidden away. This tool is located inside boot Repair Utilities. Here's how to access it.
1 Restart and hold down the Command and R keys.
2 You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
3 In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.
4 The Password reset utility launches, but you¹re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac's hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
5 At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled 'Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs'. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it¹s done, quit the programs you've opened and restart your Mac. Notice that 'Spotlight' starts re-indexing immediately.
Note: you might want to use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and Repair Disk while booted from the Repair Drive.

  • Outlook for Mac and conflict with Mail

    Hi
I have a mac Pro, have upgraded to Lion and have Outlook for Mac as my default email system. When I choose a file in Finder and go to email it the MAIL system kicks in and takes over. As I have set Outlook as the default nothing happens. Can anyone help please?

The "New Email with Attachment" option in the services menu is an applescript that is configured to point to Apple Mail and does not allow you to change it to Outlook.
As was suggested in other discussion links, you should try dragging the file directly onto the Outlook icon on your dock and it should create a new message with attachment for you:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3046634?start=0&tstart=0
The only hack that I could find for you was an article showing how to create a service to attach files to outlook.  See this article: http://www.officeformachelp.com/2010/11/create-a-service-to-attach-files-to-a-ne w-outlook-for-mac-mail-message/
Please realise this is a hack and not something that is supposed to work out of the box.

There is no way to use iCloud Dav services (contacts and calendars) in Outlook 2011 as Outlook does not support Dav services.
Use a client that supports Dav if you want to use iCloud.
