Installing 2.1 and keeping 1.4.1 question on Mac

Sorry for asking what may be a simple question. Do I need to rename LR 1.4.1 on my Mac before installing 2.1, or can I leave things as they are? I want to have both on the machine for comparative purposes. Thanks!!
Jay S.

Apps get written over on Macs only when they have the exact same name, and you install in the default location (the Applications folder!). Sometimes I will rename a previous version with a number so that doesn't happen.

  • I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet "

iTunes told me to delete my backup folder when I was having problems syncing my phone to my computer. After that it wouldn't work at all. After trying and trying I deleted iTunes when it said "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer"and now it wont let me install it again and keeps saying "itunes cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet ". What the **** itunes? Nothing is working!!
I wanted to update my iTunes so I could sync my phone to my computer and update my phones software so I can use the latest apps that need a 4.2 or higher.
This is not fun for me so if anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help. Is it possible to download the "cabinent file" with the lastest iTunes?
    Thank you.

My phone is the iPhone4 and my computer is a Windows Vista

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

  • Is it possible to install iWork '13 and keep iWork '09 running too?

Is it possible to install iWork '13 and keep iWork '09 running too?
Everyone is saying how 'dumbed down' the new versions of Keynote, Numbers and Pages are...is there a way to test out the new programs without overriding the '09 versions? If I open up the App Store it just says I need to update and I fear this will wipe out iWork '09 completely but I read somewhere it was possible to have both...?

When you download the new iWork IOS versions, the previous versions of iWork applications go into a folder in you Applications Folder called, "iWork '09".  To keep using the old versions with your old files, first start the old applications and then open the file from within the program.  If you double-click your old files they will be opened (and converted) to work with the new applications....and won't be open-able by your old applications afterward.

  • Installing iLife '09 and keep iLife '08

    Hey,
I was just wondering is it possible to install iLife '09 and keep iLife '08. If not then after I'm done "trying" '09, can I restore my library by removing the iLife '09 apps, reinstall iLife '08, and then open the iPhoto Library file which I had backed up? (And just for checking purposes it's enough to back up the iPhoto Library file in my Pictures folder, right?)
All help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

  • Can i install windows 7 and OS X together on the same Mac Book Pro?

can i install windows 7 and OS X together on the same Mac Book Pro?

You can do it either using Boot Camp or by running a virtual machine, such as Parallels Desktop (which I use) or VMFusion. I prefer the VM method, as I don't have to reboot using the handful of Windows applications that I use. And I can access my Windows apps just as I do my Mac apps - copy and paste between them, etc.
I just upgraded from Parallels 7 to 8 and I'm quite happy with it, running Mountain Lion on a late 2011 MBP with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. I also have a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display and there are no problems with video drivers, etc.
If I were you - unless I needed every inch of performance that running Boot Camp can bring - I'd go with a VM to run Windows. I can attest to the functionality of Parallels - perhaps others with experience with other VMs will chime in.

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.

  • How to install applications dvd AND keep computer on setup screen?

I have a 21.5 imac with snow leopard 10.6, I reinstalled the OS by dvd so its on the "bienviedo" part with the movie like a new mac, I want to keep it like that to sell it - but I see a 2nd applications DVD.
    1. Is this actually applications that come installed on new iMacs or are these supplemental applications?
    2. If these applications did come installed new, then how can I install them without configuring the computer? The directions from apple tell me to configure the computer, create user etc - then install the DVD.
    thanks for any help

Actually the way Apple does it is they Image Hundereds if not Thousands of drives at the same time with an image containing all of the OS and apps before they are installed in the computer during the manufacturing.
What I was referring to was when a system is returned to an Apple store or to Apple directly and then they refurb it, whatever that really means, before selling it as a Reburb unit. Most of the time Apple directly would just Re-Image the drive but a Store may use the system I was talking about for returned unit or if your drive need to be replaced.
    NOTE:
You Really Must supply the Original system disc with the system. You should not keep them as they are Machine Specific and really can't be used on any other model Mac computer. Otherwise if the new owner ever need to reinstall the original OS X version they would need to buy a replacement set from Apple.

  • How do I re-install the OS and keep all data?

I have K9 WebProtection and forgot which e-mail address I signed up with (as well as admin password..stupid I know). Today it blocked yahoo and google (it isn't supposed to block anything but adult material which we needed when my son still lived with us) and it shut off internet acces for 8 hours because I kept hitting refresh trying to figure out why its doing that. Well the only way to unstall it is to re-install the OS. I have over 10,000+ pics and 2,000+ songs that I dont want to loose. Not to mention Word Docs and Ppt presentations. Whats the best way of going about re-installing the OS? Maybe partioning the HD? But I dont know how to do that. Please provide me with the steps on how to do this (I have Time Capsule if that makes a difference)

I'd recommend contacting the Firefox for Desktop support forum here: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop] ; they'll be more knowledgeable and better able to answer your questions than the volunteers here at the Firefox OS forum.
