Installing C packages on Linux

Hi,
we want to install 10gR2 on linux Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and Asianux 1.0:
then we should install
gcc-3.2.3-34
glibc-2.3.2-95.20
compat-db-4.0.14-5
compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.128
compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.128
compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.128
compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.128
Is there any way to install all CC, C++, gcc with just one or two packages, because when we want to install gcc, it asks for cpp and libgcc etc etc then it is an unlimited circle. What to do ?
Many thanks.

Use the RedHat graphical installer and grab both the 'software developement' and the 'legacy software development' groups.

  • New to Linux - Getting Error No Space left on device when installing Oracle packages.

    Hello all,
    I'm new to linux and was in the process of installing the packages needed for Oracle 11g R2 on Ubuntu 12.04 got a message stating that there was no space left. It seems as though I should have plenty of space because I am installing it on 16GB RAM 480 GB HARD DRIVE Machine with nothing else on it but the operating system and Ubuntu Desktop.
    It seems I am running out of space in the /root and /var directories and am not sure how to rectify this.
    Can someone assist me with this.
    Thank you.

    df -h is one of the commands that will show you disk usage and partitions size.
    Since you have desktop you could check this with some gui tool also.
    First aid could be to resize your root partition and add more space to it.
    Check on Google for how to resize partition using gparted.
    Ubuntu is not certified for Oracle but you could still get the same error with other certified distributions.
    First you should plan how and where to install database(where oracle home will be, datafiles etc.), then depending on that how to partition hard disk/s(separate root and home partitions or not, etc.), and then decide what is the appropriate size of your partitions.

    oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.i386.rpm

  • Install skipped packages w/o internet connection

    Hi
    I've installed a fresh Arch Linux (2010.05) on my machine and it uses a relatively wrong driver (Realetk 8169 instead of 8168; Realtek site provides separate drivers for these NICs).
    Now I want to install the correct driver (8168), but when trying to build from sources, I get:
    make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
    The "readme" of the drivers source says:
    >>  <Requirements>
    >>     - Kernel source tree (supported Linux kernel 2.6.x and 2.4.x)
    >>     - For linux kernel 2.4.x, this driver supports 2.4.20 and latter.
    >>     - Compiler/binutils for kernel compilation
    As I know, "Compiler/binutils for kernel compilation" are there, but "Kernel source tree" probably is missing because I didn't check it when installing.
    My questions are:
    1) how can I find out if I have this "Kernel source tree" installed?
    2) if it is missing, how can I install it having the Arch Linux CD and no internet connection? (basically it means: how can I install anything from the packages located on the "install CD"?)

    My advice would be to start with another distro, as Arch is (imho) as good as you are.
    I mean :
    — If you're skilled at cli and know your way around a gnu/linux, then arch might suit you. (Arch is a 'good' distro)
    — If you're a novice, then Arch won't suit you. (Arch suxx)
    I took me several month to be able to enjoy an Arch install. I had to learn 'things' with others distros first.
    fair enough. just thought id learn on the way, but apparently thats not the way it works! lol thanks

    thanks for the advice, Wes. received your email.
    was successfully able to get the entire 2005Q4 JES installed on fedora core 3. i belive this has a slightly earlier version (v6?) of the portal.
    decided not to bother with fedora 4, and i do not have a copy of red hat enterprise to install on.
    just a few installation notes for anyone attempting to do this.
    1. make sure selinux is disabled before installing. open /etc/selinux/config and set SELINUX to disabled.
    2. make sure your system has the package compat-libstdc++. specifically, i belive the installation requires libstdc++-6.2.2.
    [root@localhost selinux]# rpm -qa | grep compat-lib
    compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2
    compat-libstdc++-devel-8-3.3.4.2
    [root@localhost selinux]# rpm -q -l compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2

    compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2
    compat-libstdc++-devel-8-3.3.4.2
    [root@localhost selinux]# rpm -q -l compat-libstdc++-8-3.3.4.2
    /usr/lib/libg++.so.2.7.2.8
    /usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so
    /usr/lib/libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so
    /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
    /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.7.2.8
    /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8.0
    /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9.dummy
    /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
    /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.73. make sure korn shell is installed at /bin/ksh.
    4. run the installer utiltiy.
    in my opinion Sun needs to support more than just the list of platforms they give. it's too restrictive and bad marketing in my opinion; all of the other major portals work on various linuxes fine.

  • Got an error when install oracle 9i in linux 9 in windows virtual server

    Hi Guys,
    I am installing an oracle 9i in my laptop that is linux 9 server which is hosted in windows virtual server. when I ran runInstaller, I got an eror that is can't connect x11 windows server using........ When I ran xterm, I got can't open dispaly. xhost + also dosn't work. Is that ok that I can install oracle in a linux that is installed in windows virtual server? What value can I set to DISPLAY value?
    Thank in advance.

    Linux 9? You mean the one that was end-of-lifed in 2004? (Just checking ...)
    If yes, you gotta decide whether it's the 'Linux 9 Boxed Version' or the 'Linux 9 Download Version'. The two have completely different compiler and glibc packages that are incompatible. Fix that incompatibility - relative to Oracle's needs - and you will be able to make Oracle9i limp along.

  • How to install java under suse linux 8.0 prof

    hi,
    first of all, i'm a newbie.
    i have downloaded the file j2re-1_4_0_01-linux-i586.bin into my public_html directory.
    which comand do i have to use to install java??
    please help!
    best regards
    Mad Elk

    I found this on Sun's Site, it should help. If it is a bin file, you should just have to type whateverItIsCalled.bin and hit enter. Make sure it is in the directory you want to install it in!
    Installation of Self-Extracting Binary
    Use the following instructions if you want to use the self-extracting binary file to install the Java 2 SDK. If you want to install RPM packages instead, see Installation of RPM File.
    1. Check the download file size.
    Before you download a file, notice that its byte size is provided on the download page. Once the download has completed, check that you have downloaded the full, uncorrupted software file.
    2. Copy j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin to the directory into which you want to install the Java 2 SDK.
    3. Run j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
    Launch the executable file you downloaded, j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin, by using the following commands from the directory in which it is located:
    chmod a+x j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
    ./j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
    The script will display a binary license agreement, which you will be asked to agree to before installation can proceed. Once you have agreed to the license, the install script will install the Java 2 SDK in a directory named jdk1.3.1_<version number> in the current directory.
    Note about root access - Unbundling the software automatically creates a directory called jdk1.3.1_<version number>. If you choose to install the Java 2 SDK into system-wide location such as /usr/local, you must first become root to gain the necessary permissions. If you do not have root access, simply install the Java 2 SDK into your home directory, or a subdirectory that you have permission to write to.
    Note about overwriting files - If you unpack the software or documentation in a directory that contains a subdirectory named jdk1.3.1_<version number>, the new software will overwrite files of the same name in that jdk1.3.1_<version number> directory. Be careful to rename the old directory if it contains files you would like to keep.

    It is good to see your system working now, though I tend to frown against reinstalling the entire system. Fixing the issue though sometimes tedious and frustrating can be one of the best ways for you to learn about your system and a fresh install doesn't teach you anything (apart from learning the tools to install Arch better I guess..). Which in your case, some knowledge is much needed seeming that you were executing commands without even knowing what they even do...
    Gummiboot is just a bootloader and shouldn't effect any of the libraries listed in your first post so it is still unknown why this issue has happened. You didn't even mention anything you did previous to your error nor posted any logs so no one could help you properly.
    Anyhow if you feel your problem Is fixed, It would be great if you marked the thread as solved.
    It's alright I wanted to change the partition order anyway.
    nevertheless next time I will be sure to look into the problem further.
