Installing java custom tag

I'm trying to install a custom tag written in java
(cfx_ExcelQuery) and am not having any success.
The tag was in a .jar file which I downloaded to the server
and extracted to the /classes subdirectory. The actual .class file
ended up in a subdirectory several levels below.
I registered the tag as ExcelQuery and wrote a test program
to call the tag according to the specs.
I got a CF error indicating the tag didn't exist until I
added the directory path containing the .class file (the exact
subdirectory). Now I get an internal server error instead (progress
I guess).
I have no experience installing/using java custom tags so I
may be missing something that would be obvious to someone else.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks,
Ken

I got this error:
Error processing CFX custom tag CFX_net.sourceforge.openxcf.javacfx.text2query.
The CFX custom tag CFX_net.sourceforge.openxcf.javacfx.text2query was not found in the custom tag database. You must add custom tags to the database before using them. If you have added your tag to the database, check the spelling of the tag within your template to ensure that it matches the database entry.

  • How to use a variable of jsp custom tag in my java code?

    hi folks,
    i got a folderList tag like this:
    ArrayList list = new ArrayList(20);
    %>
    <foo:folderList path="${attributes.newsPath}" var="year" contentType="folder">
    <%
              list.add(${year.contentEntryName});   // of course, this doesn't work
    %>
    </foo:folderList>I think, its clear what I want to do. I am just wondering how I can use my Variable "year" in the Java code between <% %>...

    <% list.add(year.getContentEntryName()); %>
    You have to have defined in the custom tag that "var" relates to a scripting variable that you want defined.
    <tag>
      <variable>
        <name-given>var</name-given>
        <variable-class>myPackage.myClass</variable-class>
        <declare>true</declare>
        <scope>NESTED</scope>
      </variable>
    </tag> Cheers,

  • Custom tags v/s java beans

    Hi all,
    Is there any thumb rule when to use Custom Tag and when to use Java Beans.
    I feel we can get the solution using either of them.
    Am I right?
    Cheers

    Hi all,
    Is there any thumb rule when to use Custom Tag and
    when to use Java Beans.
    I feel we can get the solution using either of them.
    Am I right?
    Usually you can indeed use either. Custom tags will create cleaner JSPs with less (if any) Java code, which makes it a lot easier for non-Java people to maintain them.
    Custom beans are often quicker to create, and therefore better suited as interim solutions or for pages that won't be around for long (maybe that one-time action?).
    Of course custom tags will often also make use of beans :)

    There are a number possible reasons for the error "runtime failure in custom tag
    'process'" for WLCS 3.11 and 3.2. You might check the following:
    1) Make sure that WebLogic Server 5.10 SP6 is installed correctly and that
    weblogic510sp6.jar and weblogic510sp6boot.jar are at the fronts of
    weblogic_classpath and java_classpath, respectively.
    2) Check to see if weblogic-tags-510.jar from WebLogic Server 5.10 SP6 is copied
    to %weblogic_home%\lib\weblogic-tags-510.jar.
    3) The WLPS database is corrupted for reason or another. Rerun the appropriate
    database script at \weblogiccommerce\db\cloudscape\create-all-cloudscape.bat or
    \weblogiccommerce\db\oracle\create-all-oracle.sql.

    Let me explain the problem again
    I am using was(websphere) 3.5.2. Everything has been installed properly. I am using jdeveloper 3.2 for building the jsp application using custom tag library.
    Application works fine in JDeveloper 3.2.
    Application works fine even when deployed on JRun 3.0. ( we are evaluating various web servers).
    How when deployed on WAS and I run the jsp file in browser, its gives dr. watson on java.exe. I am using websphere 3.5.2 application server.
    WAS has typical settings as against JRun and Tomcat and may be I have not set the necessary paths.

    It almost looks as if Tomcat is looking in a object pool for a custom tag object reference and when it fails to find one, throws a null-pointer instead of instantiating a new one to work with. (This is pure speculation on my part).
    Did the TLD's req's change, or the setup for Tomcat? It's not my tags, even Struts tags fail. Any ideas why my tags aren't "resolving"?

    Has anyone had any luck getting this to run or run into this problem? It fails even with a fresh JBoss install using tomcat 5.0.16.

  • JSP Custom tag issues.

    Hi all,
    When my JAVA_HOME env variable is pointing to C:\jdk1.3, the JSP below which contains some custom tags fails to compile in Weblogic 5.1. However, when i change my JAVA_HOME env variable to C:\weblogic\jre1_2\jre, the same JSP compiles and deploys with no problems. I was of the opinion that the jre in jdk 1.3 is the same as jre1_2 which is bundled with weblogic 5.1. Does anyone know of any differences btw the Jre's or why the JSP below cannot be compiled when i use JDK1.3. Thanks for the help.

    UUh, interesting.
    Try to use the last Service Pack for 5.1 - i think it is sp9.
    Hope it'll work. I've had some problems with XML parsing but they resolved when I installed the last SP...

  • Jsp/custom tag compiler error (HttpServletResponse)

    I originally posted with on Oracle's site but I am not getting any help.
    Our server is running Oracle 9ias with JServ and Apache.
    I have created a simple jsp that calls a custom tag but I am getting the following error:
    Method addHeader(java.lang.String, java.lang.String) not found in interface javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse.
    response.addHeader("Pragma", "No-cache");
    ^
    Is something not setup correctly or installed where it should be?
    the code for the custom tag is from the O'reilly book "JavaServer Pages." This works with JDeveloper on my computer but not on our server.
    package info.wyoroad.jsp.tags.generic;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
    * This class is a custom action for setting response headers
    * that prevent the page from being cached by a browser or
    * proxy server.
    * @author Hans Bergsten, Gefion software <[email protected]>
    * @version 1.0
    public class NoCacheTag extends TagSupport {
    * Sets "no cache" response headers
    public int doEndTag() throws JspException {
    HttpServletResponse response =
    (HttpServletResponse) pageContext.getResponse();
    response.addHeader("Pragma", "No-cache");
    response.addHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
    response.addDateHeader("Expires", 1);
    return EVAL_PAGE;
    }

    The jsp looks like:
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html;charset=WINDOWS-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/wylib.tld" prefix="info" %>
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=WINDOWS-1252">
    <META NAME="GENERATOR" CONTENT="Oracle JDeveloper">

    </TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <H2>Test the tag NoCache</h2> </P>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

  • Moving custom tag registration between servers.

    I have manually registered over 200 custom java tags on a
    CFMX 7 server. I am now going to install CFMX 7 on two other
    servers. I don't want to have to manually register these again on
    each of these new servers. I know there is a way I can register
    those 200 custom tags in one step (by copying something from the
    first server) but am not sure how or what I'm copying. I know they
    are no longer registered in the Windows registry; but not sure
    where they are.
    Can anyone provide some guidance on this?
    Thanks,
    WA

    #CF_HOME#/lib/neo-runtime.xml should have the cfx info (for
    the
    standalone server install).

  • Problem creating custom tags for site that has no outside internet connecti

    I've created a set of custom tags that work fine until we install our app at the customer site. The customer site has no outside Internet access, and so the DOCTYPE is failing since it references the web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd located on Sun's site.
    I tried copying the dtd locally and got it to work, but the solution sucks because this web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd file is referenced in both my taglib.tld file AND the web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd itself. Soooo....I can put in a URL that references it on the local machine, e.g.,
    In the taglib.tld file:
    <!DOCTYPE taglib PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.// DTD JSP Tag Library 1.1//EN"
    "http://ClientAAA/web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd">
    In the web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd file:
    <!ATTLIST taglib id ID #IMPLIED
    xmlns CDATA #FIXED
    "http://ClientAAA/AdProduction/web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd"
    >
    but that means for every client that uses this app (and we have several) I have to change that URL inside both these files.
    I tried simply changing it to the relative "web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd", e.g.,
    taglib.tld:
    <!DOCTYPE taglib PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.// DTD JSP Tag Library 1.1//EN"
    "web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd">
    web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd:
    <!ATTLIST taglib id ID #IMPLIED
    xmlns CDATA #FIXED
    "web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd"
    >
    but then it is requiring me to put the dtd in both my web app root directory AND my jakarta/bin directory. I get the following error:
    XML parsing error on file ../vtaglib.tld: java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\jakarta\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.29\bin\web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd (The system cannot find the file specified)
    It seems like I must be missing something here. This shouldn't be this hard. And it seems funny that to use custom tags, you have to have Internet access in the first place.
    Help!!! :)
    Thanks.

    Yeah, I think it's a bit ridiculous that in order to make all the tag library examples and instructions work, you have to have access to the Internet. I haven't seen a single example on how to make it work if there is no Internet access. That's very limiting. And I've tried all sorts of other ways of doing it, such as
    <!DOCTYPE taglib SYSTEM "web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd">
    but even then it won't work because I get an error message saying:
    XML parsing error on file /assets/../vtaglib.tld: java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\jakarta\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.29\bin\web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd (The system cannot find the file specified)
    I just don't think I should have to place this file in the bin directory. There has to be another way. Do I need to modify the dtd somehow? Cuz the dtd has the following line...is this messing it up??
    <!ATTLIST taglib id ID #IMPLIED xmlns CDATA #FIXED "web-jsptaglibrary_1_1.dtd">
    I sure could use some help.

  • Why doesn't my custom tag work?

    First, my backend database is MS Access. Nothing I can do about that, unfortunately.
    I have defined three custom tags (no body, no attributes) to display report information from my project tracking/metrics Access database:
    <prefix:showProjectInfo />
    <prefix:showProjectTeam />
    <prefix:showProjectHistory />
    In my JSP, the first tag I use, <prefix:showProjectInfo />, works perfectly. However, <prefix:showProjectTeam /> gives no output.
    First, here is the tld file that defines the tags (report.tld):
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

    It doesnt seem to matter if the code is in doStartTag(), doEndTag(), orr any of the other functions.
    I also put, as the first item in the function:
    System.out.println("TEST");Nothing.
    Just as an aside, here is the code for the <prefix:showProjectInfo />. Maybe I made a mistake in it? I closed the resultset and connection...

  • Connection Pooling and JSP Custom Tag Library - is code (inside) the best way/correc?

    Hi, can anyone advise as to whether my tag library code (based

    am slightly concerned that my OracleConnectionCacheImpl object

    This problem doexn't happen consistently. This occurs once in a while.
    I tried to increase Login delay Seconds parameter in the Connection Pool to 15 sec. It didn't help me much.
    Thanks for your help !!!

  • Is possible to write a custom tag inside another custom tag ??

    Hi
    Im trying to reduce the time needed to code mi app presentation layer, it uses some custom tags with certain configuration, i would like to know if its possible to do something like this inside my custom tag doAfterBody().
    public int doAfterBody() throws JspException {
              JspWriter writer=bodyContent.getEnclosingWriter();
              try {
                   writer.print("<customTag:myAnotherTag someEspecificConfigurationParams="someEspecificValues"/>");
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   pageContext.getServletContext().log("Error: "+e.getMessage());
              }return SKIP_BODY;
         }The goal is to simplify the jsp code because the configuration params for the custom tags (css styles and similar) are allways the same.
    That dont work, it simply prints <customTag:myAnotherTag/> in screen but the tag is not evaluated, ive tried too something like
    public int doAfterBody() throws JspException {
              if (repeat) {
                   JspWriter writer = bodyContent.getEnclosingWriter();
                   try {
                        writer.print("<customTag:myAnotherTag/>");
                   } catch (IOException e) {
                        pageContext.getServletContext().log("Error: " + e.getMessage());
                   repeat = false;
                   return EVAL_BODY_AGAIN;
              return SKIP_BODY;
         }And it doesnt worked worked. Maybe using the taghandler classes and calls to the doAfterBody could make it work, but when you need to nest tags it could be a little hell of coupling calls, so before doing it i would like to know if what i want is possible. After reading some books i tought it could work because the stack of out objects, but i cant make it work.
    Another idea is to inherit from tagHandler and override some properties in the tags, but i dont like the idea to much.
    So, can anyone help me??
    Thanks.

    You cannot do that and I have listed out the reason and a possible solution in this post http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=697243 from yesterday.
    cheers,
