Installing Java under redhat 9

Hi all!
I am using java under windows for my computer science course. To make it work under the command line I had to add the directory to the path. I now use linux and would like to run java from the commmand line without having to change through all the directories. How do I get linux to do this? All help appreciated,
thanks!

In the same way - you add Java installation directory to your PATH. Instructions on how to do it (geared towards Windows users):

  • Java install problem under redhat 9

I download rpm and install it under redhat 9. I can compile program (the class file is generated) but can not run it.
I checked the path and see /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04. WHen I check the version, it tell me version "1.3.1". It soulds like I have 2 different version of java installed. How can I solve this problem?
    Thanks

Probably not a mix up. Try to update your path wirh the path to the bin directory of the java version you want to use. Something like :
    export PATH=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04/bin:$PATH

  • How to install java under suse linux 8.0 prof

    hi,
first of all, i'm a newbie.
i have downloaded the file j2re-1_4_0_01-linux-i586.bin into my public_html directory.
which comand do i have to use to install java??
    please help!
    best regards
    Mad Elk

I found this on Sun's Site, it should help. If it is a bin file, you should just have to type whateverItIsCalled.bin and hit enter. Make sure it is in the directory you want to install it in!
    Installation of Self-Extracting Binary
Use the following instructions if you want to use the self-extracting binary file to install the Java 2 SDK. If you want to install RPM packages instead, see Installation of RPM File.
    1. Check the download file size.
Before you download a file, notice that its byte size is provided on the download page. Once the download has completed, check that you have downloaded the full, uncorrupted software file.
    2. Copy j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin to the directory into which you want to install the Java 2 SDK.
    3. Run j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
Launch the executable file you downloaded, j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin, by using the following commands from the directory in which it is located:
    chmod a+x j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
    ./j2sdk-1_3_1_<version number>-linux-i586.bin
The script will display a binary license agreement, which you will be asked to agree to before installation can proceed. Once you have agreed to the license, the install script will install the Java 2 SDK in a directory named jdk1.3.1_<version number> in the current directory.
Note about root access - Unbundling the software automatically creates a directory called jdk1.3.1_<version number>. If you choose to install the Java 2 SDK into system-wide location such as /usr/local, you must first become root to gain the necessary permissions. If you do not have root access, simply install the Java 2 SDK into your home directory, or a subdirectory that you have permission to write to.
Note about overwriting files - If you unpack the software or documentation in a directory that contains a subdirectory named jdk1.3.1_<version number>, the new software will overwrite files of the same name in that jdk1.3.1_<version number> directory. Be careful to rename the old directory if it contains files you would like to keep.

I don't know about your MySQL problems based on what you have posted - can you post any more specific information? Have you got the relevant MySQL drivers in your classpath? The drivers are available here:
    http://www.mysql.com/downloads/download.php?file=Downloads/Connector-J/mysql-connector-java-2.0.14.tar.gz
the README in that file will give you installation instructions.
how do i set the compiler path to compile files from my home directorySet the CLASSPATH environment variable to include whichever directories you like, eg (on bash) type:
export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:.:<your java dirs>To make java easier to run, put the directory in which it is installed into your path:
export JAVA_HOME=<where you installed java>Then do
export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/binverify it has worked by simply typing
javaYou can put all of these commands into the .*rc file for your shell, so that they are executed every time you open the shell. So if you are using bash you can put them into ~/.bashrc
Read up setting the PATH and CLASSPATH for more info.

  • Installing java 1.4.1_02 in linux

I tried installing java under Redhat 8.0 and I got my path variable set so it can find java and javac.
now it gives me the following errors when I try to javac a file:
    Error: could not find libjava.so
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.
    any help would be welcome

Did you install using the rpm's? it's probably the easiest way.
anyway, if you do a "java -version" what do you see? Is it Sun's java?
RH 8.0 provides its own "java" command line tool, but this is not the one you need.
what does echo $PATH give you?

    Hi,
LVM is not part of the Redhat AS 2.1. So what can I do to optimize the creation of RAW Devices ?
Or is it supported to use the LVM from Redhat 7.3 Version ?
Has anybody experience in Installing RAC under Redhat AS 2.1.
    regards

You might use OCFS (Oracle Cluster File System) instead of raw devices.

If you've accomplished this, please respond with any tips.

why can't i install java on os 10.7, under install it says error  something about java script

If you can't get any software updates, there is something wrong and I would suggest reinstalling Lion.
What errors do you get when you try to install the updates?
What is the build number of Lion. Look in About this Mac and click on the version number.

  • Installing java 2 sdk in RedHat linux7.1

I have downloaded java2 sdk (rpm file) and installed it in RedHat linux 7.1 but I can't run javac to compile my java programs.
    can somebody please explain why???

I have the same problem as you! RHLinux 7.1 comes with preinstalled of JAVA jdk, it might be 1.1.8 (the IBM jdk.) Check your /usr/bin as
    $ls /usr/bin | grep j*
you may find then the binary tools.
Also check for some gcj utils at /usr/share/doc
Now the problem is how to remove the older version and updating the PATH for the newer sun's version jdk-1.3.1_01. you may check postings at $PATH for RHLinux 7.1

    Hi,
I have been trying to install java 1.3.1 unto my linux
redhat 6.2. After installation, and setting the path
(I believe, that is the origin of the problem), I
    typed in
    java -version
In other to get the version, and confirm the complier
is working. I got the following below. Can someone
please tell me what path, and commands I should enter
on my /etc/profile file. Please tell me every single
step, I have to type, as I am a new java programmer.
Thanks for your time, and do have a nice day. <start of commands>
    export JAVA_HOME=<where jdk1.3.1 directory lives, possibly /usr/local/jdk1.3.1>
    export CLASSPATH=.:$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/rt.jar
    export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
    <end commands>
    Bhav

  • Can't install new versions of java under firefox,,i revert to explorer to do so

when attempting to install the lastest version of java, firefox tries to load the install software instaed of providing me with run--->install buttons to click on. this has happened everytime a new version of java has become available,,my work around has been to bring up internet explorer and install java through it.

You can save the Java installer to your desktop and start that file in the usual way with a double click.
