Installing large applications using iPCU

Hi everybody,
We are working on a really big enterprise application (over 7Gb) and now trying to distribute it. iTunes on both MS Windows and Apple Mac OS X doesn't want to install such a big IPA at all, so we have chosen to use iPhone Configuration Utility. Installation went well on Mac OS X, but we have a requirement that it should also work on Windows PCs. Trying to do it on Windows led to several problems:
First of all, it was impossible to drag'n'drop IPA file into Applications section of iPCU or even Add using corresponding button. We've just received the following error message: "C:\_BIG_APPLICATION_.IPA could not be read". Fortunately, that problem was overcome by using manual renaming IPA -> ZIP, decompressing and putting APP package into iPCU applications folder (C:\Users\$User\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileDevice\Applications).
Secondly, and it's a real problem now, we couldn't manage to install the application on device. It starts copying file, which is logged into iPCU log file, but then just stops without any error message. The last iPCU log lines are:

Seems like a signing issue, but if we prepare a build without large content, installation completes successfully. Moreover, as I've said earlier it works fine on Mac OS X. We are using the same Distribution certificate, mobileprovision and build script in both cases.
Does anybody have an idea?

Thanks, KiltedTim.
I've already done it. It's just hard to say on this stage, wether it's the Apple's product bug or our internal building problem.

  • Unable to install large applications

My device is nokia e66-1 slide. When i try to install any symbian app(sis/sisx) in phone or memory card larger than about 800 kb, it says 'unable to install' sometimes just when installation starts, sometimes in the middle of installation. But i can install java applications of any size. The problem is not with certificate but with size. I've tried 3-key reset 2 times but with no result. I used just 13 mb of 106 mb of phone memory. I need a solution. Thanks in advance

  • Silenting Installing AIR applications using Altiris

I was wondering if anyone can provide some guidance or
recommendations on how to silently install an AIR application using
Altiris. We are not able to package the .air installer and proceed
with the setup without prompting the user for the options screens.
Any help or assistance that can be provided would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you have signed up for Adobe AIR Runtime Distribution Agreement, you should be able to use Silent Installation of AIR Runtime and App. We use that in our msi installer.
    Usage is:
    -silent {-eulaAccepted ( -location <loc> ) -desktopShortcut -programMenu} path_to_air_file
Details of the options are included in the adobe_air_runtime_redistribution.pdf that you will get when you sign the agreement.

  • Unable to install large applications in nokia 2690

    Hi,
I want to install a collins dictionary .jar application in my nokia 2690 suite via bluetooth. It's around 8 mb big. However, an error occurs saying that the file is too big.
First i used the ovi suite and then Windows explorer. It failed both the times.
How can this be solved ?
Should I try using a data cable instead ?
    Thanks ...

For the 2690, the maximum size file that the phone allows installing is 1MB.

  • Error installing an application on Pocket PC

    Hello,
I want to install and test the Oracle Lite samples on my Pocket PC to check how all this works.
I installed Oracle Lite 10.2.0.1.0 Mobile Server and Development SDK on my PC and patched it to 10.2.0.2.0.
Then I used the webtogo/setup tool from the mobile server to install Oracle Lite on my Pocket PC.
After that I started the Updater on my Pocket PC, configured it and he found some new Oracle Lite software and installed it.
Finally I checked out MSync and the Device Manager, everything looked fine.
    Now comes the point:
I tried to install an application using the Mobile Manager from the Mobile Server. I've sent an command to the mobile device to install an application.
On the PDA the Device Manager appears, authorizes and tries to download the application, Then I get the following message:
    ... Ressource not found: WINCE_XScale_DE_OLITE_2003
I found a lot of posts who told me to install newest patches and to ensure that atlc400.dll and some other files are there. I did all these guys wrote down but this error still occurs.
I thied some diffrend PDAs with Windows Mobile 2003 and 2005 and some different users and applications.
Is something missing? Am I totally doing something wrong?
I hope anyone can give me a hint.
    Sincerely,
    Alex

    Hi,
I also faced this problem few times. If I remember right, it helped to reinstall the OL runtime and re-register the device.
Just to be sure - do you have proper platform (WINCE_XScale_DE_OLITE_2003) defined in you application? And does your user have access rights for the application? Does the Oracle Update application on device offer the application to install when you launch it manually?

  • Getting very large application with LVOOP

    Hello to everybody
I'm programming a quite large application using LVOOP. The application will later be split in several dll's which are called by a C++ main program, so instead of having a large 6MB executable I expected to have  a  few smaller dll's up to a size of 1MB. Using a "by reference approach" using objects stored in queues everything seems to work, however I noticed that as soon as an exported VI is a member of class the resulting dll will compile all the other members of the class and include that code in the dll. So even an empty(!) VI exported to a dll will have a size of about 4MB. If I drag the VI out of the class the VI still has somehow the class information stored inside the VI and the resulting size of the dll will be the same. I'm wondering if anybody can confirm this strange behaviour (?). Since the application must be transmitted over slow analog modem lines the application size matters and I might be forced to recode my application using GOOP, something I basically want to avoid. Also compiling takes a very long time.
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
this seems to be normal behavier, all members of a class will be included in the dll. In addition you have to take care about your parameters, LabVIEW objects can only be processed inside the dll. Classes cannot be transfered as output parameter to your C/C++ development environment, using conventioal datatypes as parameter is possible.

"At least 16 GB of free space on the disk onto which you’re installing for 32-bit, or 20 GB for 64-bit (for Microsoft Windows and Windows-based applications)."
That's what Apple proposes in here Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows
Personally I would double these amounts and add to that the diskspace needed for your Windows games.

  • Enhancement request: Installing applications using the Builder

Installing a full application export file (including the new Supporting Objects feature) really needs to be handled better in the Builder, especially for really large applications.
The file upload part goes smoothly but once I click install, I get that animated gid for a long time and then I get a blank page or a wwv_flow.accept error page.
Long running operations like these should really be done asynchronously. Sort of how the Script Execution works in the SQL Workshop. Accept the install file, store it somewhere internally, execute it from there, free up my browser and provide a status page with progress on the installation.
    Thanks

    Another related enhancement request
APEX export files are plain text. So they compress like crazy using any compression algorithm (zip, gzip, rar, bzip2, etc).
APEX should accept a compressed application export file in the Builder and decompress it internally before installating it.
    Thanks

  • After installing an application that was created using the Application Builder

After installing an application that I created using the Application Builder I get this error if I try to run " ANY " LabVIEW App's that I have built. "Executable Version 7.1.1 doesn't match Resource File 7.1. Check your configuration."
The way that I tried to fix this is to reload LabVIEW 7.1 and DAQmx 8.0. I am using two NI-6528 switch cards.
After I reload LabVIEW and DAQmx I can run my applications but as soon as I install one on this development machine the error begins again.
The executable that I built works fine on the development machine and any other machine that I try it on but it appears that the Run-Time engine 7.1 becomes corrupt after I run setup.exe for the newly created application.
I have built numerous Installers, setup.exe's in the past without this error. Just this latest one caused this problem to start.
I can NOT upgrade to 7.1.1. I am doing work for many different sections of this factory and I can not force them to upgrade. I've asked. Others supply code for the same machines using LabVIEW 7.1.
I am stuck creating executables and manualing moving the correct files to the target machines.
    What can be done?

No. The KB article was talking about a machine with 7.1.1 installed. I have LabVIEW 7.1 installed.
The machine that I am having trouble with is my development machine. LabVIEW 7.1, DAQmx 8.0.
If I build the executable all is fine. I can still run old executables including the one I just built.
If I create the installer all is fine. I can still run old executables including the one I just built.
When I install the app on my development machine the corruption occurs. I can " NOT " run old executables including the one I just built. The subject error pops up.
I have not moved any executables to the other machines yet. I don't want to corrupt others.

  • How to use Source Code Control for Large Application?

    Hi, All!
I would like to collect knowledge about "best practice" examples for using Source Code Control and project organization for relative large application (let's say approx 1000 SubVIs).
    Tools used:
    LabVIEW 8.0
    CVS Server
    PushOK CVS Proxy Client
    WinCVS
With LabVIEW 8 we can organize large project pretty well. This described in article Managing Large Applications with the LabVIEW Project.
I have read this article too: Using Source Control Software with LabVIEW In this Article Source Safe used, but with PushOK all looks nearby the same and works (some tricks for compare function are required).
Example. Two developers working together on same project. Internally project is modular, so one developer will work with module "Analysis", and another one with "Configuration" without interferences. These modules placed into Subfolders as shown in example above.
    Scenario 1:
Developer A started with modification of module "Analysis". Some files checked out. He would like to add some SubVIs here. So, he must also perform check out for the project file (*.lvproj), otherwise he cannot add anything into project structure.
Developer B at the same time would like to add some new functions into module "Configuration". He also needed to check out project file, but this file already checked out by Developer A (and locked). So, he must wait until lvproj file will be checked in. Another way is mark *.lvproj files as text files in PushOK, but then one of developers will get conflict message by checking in and then merging will be necessary. This situation will coming very often, because in most cases *.lvproj file will be checked out all the time.
Question: Which practice is better for such situation? Is Libraries better than folder for large project?
    Scenario 2:
Developer C joined to the team. First, he must get complete project code for starting (or may be at least code of one Library, which assigned to him).
Question: How it can be done within LabVIEW IDE? Or WinCVS (or other SCC UI) should be used for initial checkout?
    Scenario 3:
Developer D is responcible for Build. Developers A,B,C have added lot of files into modules "Analysis", Configuration" and "FileIO". For building he need to get complete code. If our project splitted into folders, he should get latest *.lvproj first, then newly added SubVIs will appear in Project Explorer, then he should expand tree, select all SubVIs and get latest versions for all. If Project organized in Libraries, he must do the same for each library, isn't?.
Question: Is this "normal way", or WinCVS should be used for this way? In WinCVS its possible with two mouseclicks, but I prefer to get all code from CVS within LabVIEW IDE recursively...
That was a long post... So, if you already working with LabVIEW 8 with SCC used for large project, please post your knowledge here about project structure (Folders or Libraries) and best practices, its may be helpful and useful for all of us. Any examples/use cases/links etc are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Andrey

    Regarding your scenarios:
    1. Using your example, let's say both developers checked out version 3
of the project file. Assuming that there are only files under the
directories in the example project, when Developer A checks in his
version of the project, there will be new files in one section of the
project separate from where Developer B is working. Developer B,
notices that there is now a version 4 of the project. He needs to
resolve the changes so will need to merge his changes to the latest
version of project file. Since the project file is a text file, that is
easy to do. Where an issue arrises is that after Developer B checks in
his merged changes, there is a revision 5. When Developer A and B go to
make another change, they get the latest version which will have the
merged changes to the project file but not the referenced files from
both Developer A and B. So when A opens version 5, he sees that he is
missing the files that B checked in and visa versa. Here is where the
developers will needs to manually use the source control client and,
external to LabVIEW, get those new files.
Where libraries help with the above scenario is that the library is a
separate file from the project so changes made to it outside of the
project do not require the project to be modified. So this time, the
developers are using a single project again which time time references
two libraries. The developers check out the libraries, make changes to
the libraries, and then check those changes in. So when each developer
opens the project file, since it references the project file, the
changes to the library will be reflected. There is still the issue of
the new files not automatically coming down when the latest version of
the library is obtained. Again, the developers will needs to manually
use the source control client and, external to LabVIEW, get those new
files. In general, you should take advantage of the the modularity that
    libraries provide.
    2. As noted in the above scenario, there is no intrinsic mechanism to
get all files referenced by a LabVIEW project. Files that are missing
will be noted. The developer will then have to use the source control
provider's IDE to get the initial contents of the project  (or library).
    3. See above scenarios.

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Application used in a TS is installing itself

    Hi guys,
if some Kind of strange behavior where I´am not 100% sure what is causing this... So here is the Situation: I´ve created an application "Nvidia Drivers" with 4 deployments types. Each DT uses a global condition as requirement to decide, based on
the Video controller, which DT is used. The application is deployed as available AND I´ve also added the same application to a task sequence. This TS is still the one which was used to install these and most of all our clients. The TS is also deployed as available
to these Clients (PXE and media only). After all that stuff we have seen some unexpected installations in the field, even after removing the deployment. So what is going on here? Is there some sort of "loopback" where the clients geht the application
from the TS where they once installed from? I´ve found some blog and other forum posts

with similar issues, but always related do supersedence. I don´t have supersedence used here. Can anybody confirm or refute my speculation. I can provide log files shots in about ~8 hours since it is 11pm for me now, but you guys sure have some great ideas
until I´am back in the Office ;)
    Thank´s a lot...

Have a look at AppDiscovery and AppEnforce.log to see what's really happening.
I'm not surprised though. Even though the TS is only available to media and PXE, the applications used in the TS will be evaluated by the clients. (I know a few that don't use applications in OS task sequences for the same reason. Including
myself. The behavior is just weird.)
