Installing ODBC/JDBC on Linux

Anyone know of a quick method to install the necessary drivers for DBI on Linux.
I wish to connect to an NT Oracle DB from my Linux box using perl...

Hi,
1. The installation for OBIA 7964 is same as OBIE 7963 except the version difference of the tools like OBIEE. Follow the standard installation document. it will be better.
2.No need to upgrade Webcatalog. you have to copy the catalog from 7963 server and paste in the location, deploy and restart all services then it will start working
3.  For RPD, copy the RPD from OBIA 7963 server. open the Admin tool in OBIA 7964 server and open the RPD(OBIA 7963 RPD) in the Admin too 7964 server and save it in the desired location(Desktop). Then the latest RPD is ready , you can deploy the RPD and start working with the 7964.

  • ODBC or JDBC on Linux/Oracle

    http://www.openlinksw.com/
Is where you will find connectivity for LINUX and Oracle.
I did some research on the connectivity of LINUX and Oracle
after having switched from a Server Farm hosting IIS and then
    going to linux.
The basic info I found was in about 20 links.
Some areas of interest might be:
http://www.linuxworld.com/ this is by INFOWORLD MAG but has the
best source and links for commercial Linux.
    In addition:
    http://users.ids.net/~bjepson/freeODBC/
The free ODBC might be a place to gain the functionality to get
the job done if you have the ability to code at that layer.
The reason WHY odbc is not the preferd method of accessing
Oracle is that OLE DB is thunked through the JET DATABASE ENGINE
or subsystem in WIN9.x and WINNT at the client side.
    http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q139/7/25.asp
This article goes into some detail how OLE DB, ODBC, ADO, RDO,
and the rest of the MSFT data is handled and by what files.
ORACLE uses "OLE OBJECTS" to get the data and passes the JET
    DBENGINE/Sub-system.
So for a Server on Linux and a host on Wintel you might look at
the JDBC or universal Model of data connectivity.
Oddly this was just something I looked into prior to deciding to
    get into Oracle8i....
If you get any additional info.. or other "workable" approaches..
Please follow up I would be interested...

  • How to config ODBC when install the biapps in Linux

The dac need ODBC connection to set the datawarehouse tables.
And the informatic also need to config the ODBC connection to do ETL from sieble sql server database.
Is it possible to config the ODBC in the linux env?

I used a windows machine (client and server running on windows) to build the datawarehouse. then execute loads from the linux server..
I did get the odbc installed but was a pain.. then it quit working and couldn't get it working again.. so I went the temporary windows route...
I also had trouble configuring informatica.. did the same thing.. ran it from a windows maching running the server then moved back to linux.

Since JDBC is a bridge to connect Java and Oracle via ODBC.

JDBC is NOT a bridge between JDBC and ODBC! Early versions of
JDBC might have used this to get a version out there for people
    to use to code.
Oracle JDBC connects either thin (100% java) or OCI (via the
    Oracle Client)

  • Instant client ODBC driver for Linux

I had previously posted this under the ODBC forum, but didn't get a response there.
I am familiar with using ODBC and visual basic under Windows. I would like to use the Oracle instant client ODBC under Red Hat ES3 within a C or C++ program to access an Oracle database.
Where can I find documentation related to this:
    a) setting up an ODBC connection on Linux
    b) installing the Oracle instant client on Linux
    c) building an application with Oracle instant client ODBC
Am I correct in assuming that any C/C++ ODBC code examples from windows could also be used on Linux.
    Thanks,
    Werner

    Hi,

More information you can take a look on Note:404041.1 from Oracle Metalink

  • How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster

    Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
    thanks ,,

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

  • Installing ODBC Drivers on a Server with multiple users.

We are trying to install ODBC drivers on our web server and want to know what is the minimum we can install and be able to add a DSN through the MS ODBC Administrator. This is a server that is used by multiple companies and we do not want to do something that will affect them.
The oracle installation does not warn you when it overwrites existing files, which is why we cannot simply install everything. For example, on my test machine it trashed the Java installation without asking or telling me. I discovered it this morning when I tried to go to a site that uses Java. That was a low risk on the SQL server, because we did not have Java installed. Other elements, though, cannot be risked in that fashion. We have to find out what files are required in order to solve the problem.

    Version 9i on a Windows 2003 Server.

    1) I’m not certain about the overwrite vs separate machine. What happened is that it installed its own Java, which was much older than the Java previously installed. Following the oracle installation, internet explorer was no longer able to find Java at all, prompting for a new Java installation. During the installation, no mention was made of the changes that were being made.
    2) Each company has its own account on our server, its own instance of the database, etc. nowhere in the oracle release notes or the installer could I find anything that provided for a user-limited installation: it was global. Even though the oracle installation suggested, and I accepted, unique folders for its installation targets, the problems mentioned occurred. The web server it wants to install is not possible to be user-limited: it wanted to take over http for the machine.

    Hi All,
This error appears while installing developer 10g on linux suse 10.0
    http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errorso9.png

Try locate (using find command for example) the libjvm.so file (I assume that is located somewhere under $ORACLE_HOME (probably jdk or jre directory)). If you locate the path where this library resides, try to add that path to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable.
Use copy&paste method (for error message) rather than link to image.
It is much quicker operation and it may help to other people because they be able to find this thread via search engine.

Please suggest me the possible solution or the Document which can guide me

    Hi,
the problem is the logfile for the installation. Every oracle installtion writes a log file with this name in a predefined directory. Make the directory /tmp writable for oracle and extend the disk quota at least 60 MB.

    Hi there!
The first thing you should do if you get ANY (almost) error when
installing Oracle Server in RedHat Linux v6,0 is to read this
    document carefully: http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/
After hours of struggle it finally worked for me :-)))))
Only two things to add here:
    1) If you want to be able to connect to the Linux server
(telnet) and running utilities like sqlplus locally on the
server, you should copy the ".profile" file to the users home
directory, add the user to the group "dba" AND make sure that
the $ORACLE_HOME directory has execute permissions for members
of the "dba" group (mine had default ONLY permission for the
    owner to execute).
    2) The file "listener.ora" was (for some reason) written
with "oracle_sid" where it really should say the real SID name
that is in my case "ORCL".
I just can't thank the guy who wrote the step-by-step
Installation guide for Oracle on RedHat Linux enough... THANK
    YOU!
