have a g5 [used no system discs]will be the new work horse in the shop.We wiped the drive,installed Panther10.3. Need to install illustrator, p-shop and indesign. G5 is asking to install classic before it'll install the software, tried loading our OS9.1 but it errors out. Our production software is all on disc and upgrade discs,how can I get our apps onto the new system.

G5s cannot boot directly into OS 9. Although OS X can run OS 9 applications via Classic, you cannot boot OS 9. Instead you must install a special version of OS 9 that was included with the Software Restore discs that originally came with the computer. Without them you cannot install a version of OS 9 that will work with Classic.
Note that some OS 9 installers will not run via Classic. Perhaps it's time you consider upgrading to OS X versions of your OS 9 software.

Installing Older Software Help

Hi,
I have a set of Photoshop filters that worked fine with OSX 10.4.x. I just went to install them on my newer iMac with Leopard and the default opener is QUicktime which recognizes it as a movie, of which it's not and says, sorry not a movie.....
It's a .sit which as i recall was the compressed files opened with Stuffit and I don't find that either...maybe I can download that...
Anyway please help I need these filters.

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

Can I partition an external drive and install 10.6.8 so I can run some older software?

I have older software that won't run on my 21.5 iMac. Can I partition a 3TB Lacie external drive, then install 10.6.8 on it so I can use the older software?

I have an old airport express, but the software on my computer does not accept it. I need to downgrade the software, but the older software will not install.

I have a old G4, I want to give to my son. It does not have a wireless card and because his room is on the second floor it is impossible to connect with a wire.

I want to do this with airport software, however the software tells me the airport express is to old and i need to reinstall older software 5.6 to be precise. However installing fails, so I thought i just remove the airport software, but osx does not allow me to do that.

i managed to install the older airport utility and am trying to set up a connection with an existing network, but airport utility cannot find the airport extreme AFTER it starts up again. I then went and again restored it to its factory settings and did the whole procedure again with airport utility, but again after utility tells the airport express to restart it does not come back.

What version of the CAD software are you trying to install? Is it compatible with win 7? Older installations (on older OS) installed to a different default location that win 7 does not have.

Instead of downloading the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it from the Apple website. Mid 2009 and older MacBooks Pro only support this Windows support software version > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 This version allows you to install a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 version.

Hey guys.
I run an older version of os x (10.4.8) on a Macbook as I have an old version of pro tools that I won't run on anything newer. I havn't gotten round to updating pro tools.
Yesterday, I tried to install the update for 10.4.11 since I'm not too bothered about pro tools anymore.
It took around 2 hours, then at the end seemed to stop without any confirmation of it's success.
After this, everything froze and I was forced to manually restart the macbook using the power button.
When restarting, I got a kernel panic error which asked me to repeatedly start the system.
Fed up with this, I decided to revert back to 10.4.8 by booting from the dvd, erasing the macbook harddrive and installing from scratch.
Disk one went fine, but disk 2 hangs up when installing garage band instruments, then I get the message THERE WERE ERRORS INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN.
I've tried this three times with no joy.
Any ideas?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

Also, That second Disk thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

Can't install older itunes version after 7.5 upgrade

I recently upgraded to itunes 7.5 and of course it didn't work. Now I am trying to install 7.4.1 and now my computer says "the older version of apple software update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." I tried to use add or remove programs and windows installer pops up and says "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. So I hit ok and it says the path C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP048.TMP\AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi in a folder from which you can install Apple Software Update. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

Isight Stopped Working After Installing Quicktime Software Update

This afternoon when I logged into my Macbook, it automatically detected new software update for Quicktime. As always, I let the computer download and install the software. However, this time it created a lot of problems for me. First, I couldn't connect to my network (I use Airport Express) although the signal was strong. After reset modem, router and Airport, finally I could get on network. However, then I found out my Isight stopped working. The light on the right side of the built-in camera was always on (green). My Photo Booth screen appears green all the time. I no longer can use Skype video chat. Does anyone encounter the same problem? Can anyone help me out? I use Macbook, the operating system is OX 10.4.3. Thanks.

I have all the latest updates on my Macs, and I have no problem at all.
If you applied the latest (7.4.1) QT update, your problem may be due to the fact that the System Requirements for QuickTime 7.4.1 for Tiger include Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later, and you show that you are using Mac OS X (10.4.3). You can check which QT version you have installed using the QuickTime Player > About QuickTime Player menu command.
If your QT version is an older one that is compatible with your Mac OS, and if you have not done so since you applied the QT update, repairing permissions may help you.
If the problem is somehow related to your iSight rather than to your QT software, Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight may help you identify and fix your problem.
Unless you have a compelling reason for not doing so, you should consider updating to the latest version of Tiger (10.4.11). To find out what improvements you are missing by staying with 10.4.3, see some of the "About the Mac OS X 10.4.xx Update" documents for updates later than 10.4.3. A couple of examples are:
• About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (combo) and
• About the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update
If you are interested, other "About..." documents are linked in this search list.
Because System Requirements for the latest combo applicable to your MacBook, Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel), are for Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later, you will need at least two steps to upgrade from your Mac OS X (10.4.3), so pay careful attention to the System Requirements of any updates you plan to apply.
