Installing Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal error

Hi,
I am trying to install the Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal: Framework 11gR1 (11.1.1.4.0) onto a Laptop (500G HDD 8G Ram) running Windows 7 to learn.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/portal/downloads/owcs-portalfw-vbox-284132.html
I want to run in a VirtualBox Linux setup etc.
I have downloaded all the files except the REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf which would not download so I saved in browser to the same directory etc.
I have set the preferences in Virtual Box to the same directory where I have downloaded the files to but when I Import Applicance and select C:\users\Tony\Virtual Box VMs and select the defaults and import I get an error box stating:
Failed to import appliance C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf.
Could not open the medium storage unit 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk'.
VD: error VERR_ACCESS_DENIED opening image file 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).
Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: Appliance
Interface: IAppliance {3059cf9e-25c7-4f0b-9fa5-3c42e441670b}
Anybody got any idea how to fix this?
Thanks
Tony

I've imported this appliance (and others) on Windows 7 32-bit on a Lenovo W500, on an iMac, and on a MacBook. The one error you should encounter during the "import appliance" step is a path error related to shared folder (the canned/hard-coded path in the ovf file points to a place that is not likely to exist on your computer, so just comment out the D:\TEMP\Host path, or make it for that matter).
<!--SharedFolders-->
<!--SharedFolder name="Host" hostPath="D:\TEMP\Host" writable="false" autoMount="true"/ -->
<!-- /SharedFolders-->
You can alter system set memory_target=300M scope=both and set your VM memory to 2.5GB and everything will run fine (using the vmctl script to start up what's needed). The "1" option is all that is needed for the tutorial shown in the documentation. If you run the admin server, you will see things run a good bit slower. Part of the tutorial assumes you know about UCM and how to take the UCM content in the sample files and upload those into the repository. You can delete the file already loaded and then do a single file upload to "re-load" the various directories/folders for the menu/home/etc. Upload the png and other files into the same folder (menu.html, menuBanner.png, etc. all go into the same Menu folder). It's not worth the time to set the bulk upload because you have to go out into UCM and dig around the admin settings, stop/restart, and so on. You can also use the contentadmin user (welcome1) to do the file upload.

  • Failing to assemble Downloaded Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g

    Hello,
    I checked the download checksum of the files downloaded for Pre-built Virtual Machine for  SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ( Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g ) and they all match checksums.
    however, when I try to assemble them with 7zip, I get a corrupt error message.  I have tried downloading with Chrome and Internet Explorer.  I have also tried assembling the 7zip files different ways.
    Is there anything else I should try?
    Running on Windows 7, 64 bit machine.  (with lots of disk space).
    Is there any other way to get the files?
    thank you.

    thanks for the response
    I guess I will have to do that as well.
    However, it defeats the speed with which can ramp up with the toolset;  thus slowing my time I can allocate to learning it...

  • Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g - console logons

    Dear All
    Excellent work on VirtualBox SOA suite image, very very cool
    All started up no sweat, logged into virtual image no probs (oracle:oracle)
    Firefox all nicely set up with links
    BUT what are the console logins for
    1 - Oracle EM
    2 - WLS Console
    3 - BPM Workspace
    4 - BPM Process Composer
    5 - Oracle B2B Login
    Perhaps I'm missing something, but I cant find them
    many thanks all

    I will try to explain in more detail what i am trying here:
    I am planning to use the Virtual Machine as server, just for running Weblogic with SOA/BPM.
    All the development i will do on a different computer, where I have installed JDeveloper. From the development environment I will try to deploy applications on SOA/BPM Virtual machine.
    As I understood, bridge networking are problematic when using wireless connectivity and VirtualBox. Therefore, I am trying to use NAT with port forwarding instead.
    To make port forwarding work:
    First, you need to execute on the host the following command line:
    +VBoxManage modifyvm "vbox-oel5u4-soabpm-11gr1ps2-bp1-otn" --natpf1 "guestswls,tcp,,7001,,7001"+
    Next, on guest VM, Network Adapters, choose NAT and as Adapter Type choose: Intel PRO/1000 MT Server
    With this settings, I am able to connect from development computer to the Em console, WLS console etc. I am able even to 'see' the WLS SOA/BPM instance with JDeveloper from LAN machine. But when I am trying to deploy from JDeveloper, under SOA Servers step2 screen, I see the server URL as localhost:7001. Therefore I cannot deploy yet...
    Thanks,
    Florin

  • How to combine SOA pre-built Virtual Machine

    Hi ,
    I have downloaded oracle provided SOA pre-built VM. There are 7 files that need be combinted to produce 1 file that Oracle Virtual Box can recognize and import.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/learnmore/vmsoa-172279.html
    I can't find a good way to combine it. I have WinZip installed in my xp machine. Can't extract any of the file with it.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

    The files are in 7zip format, see http://www.7-zip.org/ for the utility to extract them.

  • Pre-built Business Areas for Oracle Apps?

    Hello all,
    I'd like to know if there are any 'boiler-plate' Business Areas that come with
    Oracle Apps 11i?
    I'm building a Discoverer reporting environment over Oracle Apps 11i.
    Apps 11i, if you don't know, is enormous! I'd like some 'off-the-shelf'
    material to start with.
    Thanks.

    Yes you need to review Doc ID: 139516.1 Discoverer 4i with Oracle Applications 11i from metalink to set them up.

  • Webcenter PS3 pre-build virtual machine question

    Experts,
    I have following queries regarding VM for web center
    1) What are the limitation of using pre-build virtual machine for development/testing environment compared to standard installation?
    2) What are the webcenter features not supported by pre-build WC VM but is supported in standard installation?
    I am thinking of using pre-build WC VM for development and testing environment. So, want to know the limitation before using it.
    Appreciate any help on this.
    Ashish
    P.S - Standard installation is installing DB (using RCU), weblogic & webcenter suite.

    The pre build is very good for demonstration purpose. You can do some development on it but i don't think this is recommended.
    The pre build machine is just a plain installation with a DB, weblogic and webcenter suite. If you create your own VM with the same software, than there is not much difference between the pre build machine.
    If you don't plan on using a real server for your development purpose than you can use the pre build machine. I don't know if it is allowed so maybe you should check this with Oracle. There isn't a real difference between an installation that you will do an the pre build machine to technicaly, you could use it... Licence wise... you should check it with Oracle.

  • Is there a pre-built VM with just Oracle Linux?

    I want to try out installing Oracle Database 11gR2 on a Virtualbox without going through installing Oracle Linux in a Windows Host so I'm looking for a pre-built VM with just Oracle Linux. Most of the VMs available in Pre-Built Developer VMs (for Oracle VM VirtualBox) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html already have Oracle Database installed. It seems that my only choice is to use Enterprise Java Development VM. I notice there is something called Oracle VM template but it does not seem to be for Virtualbox. Thanks for any help.

    I would second Bjorn's suggestion to just go ahead and install Oracle Linux from scratch. As a DBA you need to be familiar with a lot of OS level admin stuff, so installing the OS from scratch and doing the minimal configuration needed to install Oracle is, in itself, an important part of your professional development. If you take a shortcut of using a pre-built vm you are just stunting your own growth.

    Edited by: Rahul K on May 17, 2013 9:12 AMExactly like you would if that virtual Windows server were a physical server in your data center.
    Install your client products, including the oracle client, on your host os.
    Create a tnsames file that has an entry for the database on our virtual server.
    Just like a real server, your vm must have a fixed IP address so that client processes will know how to find it.

  • Unable to install Pre-Built VM for SOA 11gPS5 appliances

    Hi,
    I wanted to install Pre-Built VM for SOA+BPM latest release 11gPS5 on my system and downloaded the appliances from the below link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/learnmore/vmsoa-172279.html
    But I could find one of the installer file size to be just 810 MB instead of 2GB. While extracting oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.001 using 7z, the extraction failed with as error message as below: "Data error in 'oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-ps5-2-0-M.ova'. File is broken. "
    Also I could see the processed file size as 14972 MB where as Compresses size as 13098 MB and file oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.007 is 810MB.
    Are the expected file sizes for all the oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.001 to oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.007 is 2GB?
    Upon running md5sum, every file gave 100% result size, but there is a mismatch in the hexcode as below:

    Did you check the MD5sum to make sure the download was successful?
    dowload MD5sum.exe
    c:/ MD5sum.exe fille1.......file7
    compare o/p with the given
    http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/soa/soabpm/oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.md5sum
    download again the unmatched file
    , then try 2 extract with 7zip

    Hi,
    I just had this messages yesterday during my install.
    You have to update those 2 files:
    <RCU Home>\rcu\integration\ipm\sql\createtables_ipm_sqlserver.sql
    <RCU Home>\rcu\integration\ipm\sql\createuser_ipm_sqlserver.sql
    The first 2 lines begin with "Rem ..." which is not correct for SQL Server : I added "--" and it worked.

  • Do I need to configure any settings of Virtual Machine for 64bit guests?

    I have installed VirtualBox on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit machine which has Intel Xeon E5506 processor.
    Now, I have started to create Virtual Machine for:
    1. Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 7 for x86 64 (64 bit)
    2. Windows 2008 R2 64bit
    I think I need to enable VT-x in BIOS but how about Execute Disable Bit?
    Acccording to the VirtualBox User Manual, VirtualBox will automatically use the correct settings for each selected 64-bit operating system type. However, I don't see any setting to specify whether I will install 32bit or 64bit OS. When I check the setting Enable IO APIC, it is not checked. My understanding is that setting must be enabled for any 64bit guests. Does VirtualBox use the correct settings including Enable IO APIC when I actually install the OS not before that?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Todd/Venkat/Tuxedo Experts,
    I wanted to clarify the part that says: "You will also need to add the WSL to the UBBCONFIG file and recompile UBBCONFIG."
    I am guessing this means adding a WSL entry in UBBCONFIG file of Tuxedo Server since (I have been told in Venkat's post that) UBBCONFIG/tuxconfig file is not required on client side of tuxedo. Am I right in saying that client will have no UBBCONFIG and tuxconfig, while server UBBCONFIG has to have appropriate WSL entry?
    Btw, if I look at the ubbconfig of simpapp, it has no WSL entry. It does have the following server details though:
    ==============================
    DOMAINID simpapp
    MASTER DevnonAOMapp
    DevnonAOMapp LMID=DevnonAOMapp
    *GROUPS
    GROUP1
    LMID=DevnonAOMapp GRPNO=1 OPENINFO=NONE
    *SERVERS
    DEFAULT:
    CLOPT="-A"
    simpserv SRVGRP=GROUP1 SRVID=1
    *SERVICES
    TOUPPER
    ==============================
    Where will the WSL entry fit and what would it look like?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ahsan

  • Pre-Configured Virtual Machine with OBIEE 11g available?

    Hi,
    does Oracle offer a pre-configured Virtual Machine with OBIEE 11g? I found an old Virtual Box Image with 10.2..., but nothin newer.
    Thanks for your help.
    Christoph

    Hi,
    I don't suppose this is available yet is it? I notice Oracle offer quite a few downloadable images for Virtual Box now, but OBI isn't included in any that I could see.
    Thanks,
    Mike
