Installing Windows 7 through bootcamp with new iMac

I was able to get to the partition and the Windows 7 installer.  Once the installation process began, it immediately asked me for drivers.  I browsed the usb drive that bootcamp created but could not find anything to keep the installation process progressing.  Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you can, I recommend you to download Windows 7 again and create again a bootable Windows 7 drive, because it looks like the installer is damaged. Also, disconnect all peripherals before installing Windows

  • Installing Windows on Bootcamp on new iMacs (late 2012)

I absolutely love the new iMacs. They seem a good bit faster than my current 2009 model and make a nice upgrade for our home I am wondering about a few things, and hopefully someone here can help me get some answers on it.
With the old iMacs I have never been able to install Windows on Bootcamp via a USB stick/HD. Since the Superdrive is removed with the new iMacs, I'm hoping that that function is finally activated… currently that function is only activated (in the EFI from what I learned) on the MacBook Pro's and Air's. I have tried to install Windows 7 from various USB sticks and HD's on several different iMacs. Some USB sticks and HD's do properly install Windows when I try the same thing via a MacBook, so the sticks and HD's are not the issue
Does anyone have some insight in this? I don't really feel like buying the Apple USB Superdrive, which officially is not even supported on iMacs, júst to install Windows for my occassional PC game. So basically, does anyone know wether or not it's possible to install Windows on Bootcamp via a USB stick or HD on the newly released iMacs?

    I would think so
but rather then trying to have it verified in the imac forum I would ask in the bootcamp forum if I were you

You can delete the partition in Boot Camp Assistant or use Camptune to modify it

  • Can you use and iso version of windows 7 64 bit to install windows through bootcamp?

I saw windows 7 64 bit online cheap and it was and iso. If I put it on a disc, could I use it to install windows through bootcamp?

You can use the iso direct from Bootcamp assistant and put it on a USB if your Mac has the ability to boot from a USB flash drive.
If your Mac has a built in cd drive you will need to burn the iso to disc (as an image) and use that to boot from.

  • Install windows 7 in a new iMac 27 core i5

Hello, someone knows how to Install windows 7 in a new iMac 27 core i5 ?

As a new iMac hasn't got the SuperDrive, you have to buy the Apple USB SuperDrive or another external optical drive to install Windows on your computer. If you need help, print this PDF > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
Also, if you have a Windows .iso file, you can use it and burn it into a USB drive. To do this, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow its steps

  • Problems with graphics card with Windows 8 bootcamp on new imac

I just purchased a new 2013 imac (27inch, with the nvidia geforce gtx 680mx 2gb).
I partitioned the drive using bootcamp and successfully installed windows 8 pro 64bit as well as the support softward from Apple for the drivers.
My problem is that the display in windows says it is being run by a Microsoft basic display adapter and only using 256mb of memory and doesn't seem to be an Nvidia card at all, let alone the 2gb of video memory I am supposed to have.
I have tried downloading drivers directly from Nvidia, but when I run them it says I don't have compatible hardware.
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.
    Please help.

After I read other discussions on the same topic, I found out that the problem is that when you install the drivers via the Bootcamp "windows support software" USB key, for some reason the NVIDIA drivers are not installed, although they are present in the Bootcamp folder.
How I solved the issue: Starting from the Peripherals Manager window (the one that shows all what is inside your machine), I opened the Graphic card "folder" and double-clicked on the "VGA standard card" line.
Then I clicked on a "install driver" button, browse through files, and selected the NVIDIA folder within the Bootcamp folder on the USB key.
It took some time but after that it had fully recognized the GTX 680 MX card.
I rebooted and the system itself set up to the 2560 x 1440 resolution.

  • Trying to install windows through bootcamp - now i'm screwed...

Ok so bought my very first mac yesterday and it has been a joy for the first 48 hours...sarcasm. I was trying to install windows xp - sp2 on my mac that has the latest and greatest version of leopard on it. Used boot camp to set up partition and was prompted to insert windows installation cd...all seemed to be running smoothly...until: the installation "completed" said that it needed to reboot to complete installation and that if there is a floopy disk in drive a:, to remove it. (***? there is no floppy disk on macs anymore...) so my computer will restart and goes to a page that says to press any key to boot from cd...ok 1)if I do press a key it leads be through the entire installation all over again and then reboots and we start again with the press any key to proceed with installation part...or 2) don't press any key and the it says "disc error, rebooting computer". so I thought that maybe i should just use parallels instead of bootcamp until I could research a bit more, but now since i can't get the computer on, it won't eject the cd - and unlike a pc, there's no button to make it eject no matter what...tried holding mouse key while shutting down and rebooting and it won't budge...
can someone please help me?? (btw - i'm writing from my problem-less pc)...i really don't want to regret the mac...

I'm a new macuser too (2 weeks). Try this. Turn off the compter and then, restart and hold down the OPTIONS key. A menu choice showing a hard drive should come up on the screen (and nothing else), this is the mac hard drive. Click on the arrow below the HD and it will boot into the MAC OS. Then, eject the CD from the mac OS. I think that should work.
I didn't have any problem with XP installation in boot camp, used a 32 GB partition (thats the max for FAT32) and used fat32 so I could access windows files with mac programs.

  • HT1899 Do I Really Need to Install Windows Platform on a New iMac w/ Mountain Lion?

    Greetings.
Do I need to install Windows 7 (or some other version of MS Windows) in order to run Windows based software?  For example, I want to run AutoCAD 14.  Will this install and run on my new Mountain Lion iMac without having MS Windows Platform installed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    MarkCAFL

If you want to install and use Windows programs you must install Windows either natively using Boot Camp Assistant or in a virtual machine such as Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.
Many programs have a Mac version. AutoCad 2013 is available for Windows or Mac http://usa.autodesk.com/autocad/trial/. I am not famiar with AutoCad 14 so you will need to do your own research.

And I have the question. What is happend, and how resolve this problem
    Thank's

    oldman,
I would also suggest re-posting on the Boot Camp forum, that is where most of the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out. This is a general iMac forum where most users tend to use OS X only.
    Good luck.

  • Does installing windows through Bootcamp effect the speed of the laptop when running OSX

My friend and I are having an argument about wether installing windows 7 on your macbook pro through Bootcamp (early 2011) will slow down your laptop even when it is just running OS X (I think it wont)

The Windows partition use NTFS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS). NTSC is a television standard used in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC).
Mac OS X does not use FAT, but HFS+:

  • Hi All, newbie here, trying to install Windows 7 on my new iMac, heaps of trouble?

I get to a point where I choose the Bootcamp partition and the error message comes up: Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed on a partition formatted as NTFS.....

    Roger
Thanks for the response. I am having heaps of fun here. Got a printer working and printed out the Bootcamp help, which I followed slavishly to no good end. I partitioned the disk, burnt a cd with the Bootcamp data. The Windows 7 loaded as far as the choosing partition to install. The instructions say to go with the Bootcamp partition Disk 0 Partition 3....then I have just read on the next page and it says I choose "format"...so it looks like I have answered my own question. I was clicking on "Next"!!!
Bit dim on a Sunday afternoon here...
Cheers from the great South Land.

  • I'm trying to install windows through bootcamp but my windows 7 DVD is not recognized?

I've been trying for ages and still nothing is working. I've spent £70 on this OS and right now it's been wasted. I've been trawling through forums and the manual and I still have no idea what to do. Someone please help!

I've now tried unplugging all my usb drives, but even though I've now formatted my USB Stick to MS Fat and downloaded the latest Windows support software from apple on to it, when I insert my disc the computer still does not recognize the disc. This is the message I am presented with:  http://gyazo.com/454733761330896d5d214339142c3d95.png

Sorry, I'm new to the Mac world. I recently got a new IMAC and installed my Epson CX5800F printer and it worked fine. Then a few weeks later I installed Windows7 through Bootcamp and I think it reconfigured a port or something and now I get a communication error and it won't print. • I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why?

I can't install Windows 8.1 on my Imac 27" with Mavericks using Bootcamp. Why? I first did all the software updates needed, downloaded the driver software to a 32Gb flash drive formatted as FAT32, fired up Bootcamp Assistant, inserted the Windows 8.1 Full version 64 bit installation DVD as requested, and got as far as partitioning (tried this at 82 Gb for the Windows partition), then the MAC rebooted but halted before getting to the login page. Then a black screen came up with the error message: 'non-system disk - Press any key to reboot'. I did this and nothing happened. I was forced to shut down forcibly then restart with my finger held down on the option key. Then a screen came up with two icons: the macintosh HD icon and the Windows DVD icon. I double-clicked on the Windows DVD icon and the MAC came up with another black screen and error message: 'CDBoot: Couldn't find BOOTMGR'. Had to shut down forcibly again and restart as before, this time ejecting the Windows DVD first. Then I repartitioned my MAC back to all OSX. What the **** do I do now? Applecare couldn't help me beyond this point. They said to contact Microsoft. I notice a lot of other MAC owners have had similar problems.
    Please help? tagjsmith.
