Installtation of JDK 1.6.0_11 installs in System32 folder

Hi,
I have installed java 1.6.0_11 on my window vista enterprise 32-bit system. I was happy until I found out that ( despite the fact that is tells you that it installs java under C:\ProgramFiles) that it added:
java.exe
javaws.exe
javaw.exe
in my C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Even if I change my PATH I will see java 6 even when I need to use java 5. This is due to my path that has System32 before my java 5 in path.
Can I just put my java 5 first in path? Or is there an easier way?

Some actually have an error in the installer that fails to overwrite versions already there with newer ones, leading to no end of trouble with "IllegalClassVersionExceptions" (or what was that one again) until the versions in the Windows tree are manually deleted.

Wont' work though. The content of the Windows tree will take presedence over any other entry, java*.exe will need to be explicitly deleted there if you don't want them used.

    Hi,
    Note 1086971
    To install and launch MI Client on Windows Vista OS, install SUN JDK/JRE 1.5 Update 11 and higher.  This is because only this version of SUN J2SE supports Windows Vista OS.  For details please refer to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/system-configurations.html.
    I think I have to install this version of Java.

  • File.createTempFile seems to be broken in JDK 1.6.0_11

    Hi!
    Can anyone confirm please?
    On (German) Windows XP systems, since JDK 1.6.0_11, there seems to be a serious bug in the implementation of File.createTempFile: After having created such a temp file, using getPath() or getAbsolutePath() may show a broken path, with abbreviated path components.
    Here is an example result path (broken):
    "C:\DOKUME~1\schneid\LOKALE~1\Temp\temp_file6617344501941011051.tmp"
    As you can see, the directory "DOKUMENTE_UND_EINSTELLUNGEN" (German version of Windows XP) is abbreviated to "DOKUME~1".
    I have attached an executable Java class that shows the problem.
    If someone confirms, then I will post an issue.
    Best,
    Michael

    Hi Danny!
    So you are saying that this is a valid path specification in Windows? I did not know this. And I do not remember to ever have seen this before with Java.
    Is there a reason why this "abbreviated" form is used in Java?
    Has this changed recently, or did I simply never found it before?
    Can this be behavior be changed to the complete path form? I like to call 'get[Absolute]Path()' in log messages and test cases, but want to see the complete path in such a case. I would like to avoid getCanonicalPath() in such cases, because this method declares an exception.
    Cheers,
    Michael

  • JDK 1.4.2 installation options

    Hi,
    Can someone point me to documentation of all installation options for JDK 1.4.2 (windows)? I know how to create silent install but options for ADDLOCAL are needed (I wanto to silent install in custom path with private SDK only).

    To "install" the SDK (or 1.5's JDK) only doesn't require an installer. Just copy the SDK files into the desired directory - Ther are no external references (Registry) to the SDK.. Then to run the programs, provide the full path to the executables - or set a path variable.

  • How to rollback JDK 1.6.0_29 to JDK 1.6.0_11 on linux

    Hi,
    We are having problem with ODI release 11.1.1.5 link editor option because of the JDK 1.6.0_29.
    Can you please provide solution for rolling it back to the older version(1.6.0_11) on linux m/c
    Thanks !!

    Apparently Oracle saw no use for such a download as its gone. But there is a reason why you need administration rights to install it and you don't have those rights - ask the person that does have administration rights to install it in a controlled way.
    If you really must break the rules, install the JDK on a machine where you do have admin rights, zip it up and copy it to the machine where you do not have rights. You won't have the browser plugin and you'll have to bind jar files to javaw.exe yourself if you want to be able to run executable jars by double clicking them.

    Sapinst stopped at step 35 (or 36) - "Start Java engine"
    jcontrol would not start and dev_jcontrol shows this error message - "JdkDetection_nnnn.class not found"
    Our environment:
      Windows 2003
      Oracle 10.2.0.4
      Solution Manager 7.01 EhP1 SR3
      JDK - 1.4.2_24 rev-b06

    There were some solutions that suggested giving "ALL" permissions to the SIDADM and SAPServiceSID users to the disk drives that we are installing the software on - we did that as well, but it did not help us. Java engine won't just start. jcontrol would just die with the same error.
    After spending enormous number of hours sifting through very few documents found on this error - I got fed up and here is what I did when I got the "JdkDetection_nnnn.class not found" error:
    1. Logged in to the server as SIDADM
    2. Opened a windows command prompt
    3. ran this command  --   jcontrol pf=D:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\profile\SID_DVEBMGS00_hostname
    4. waited for 15mins
    5. Restarted sapinst
    6. Continued successfully
    I am thinking that jcontrol was having a difficult time to start for the first time at Step 35 (or 36) during sapinst. When I started it on the command line with just the profile as the parameter - it pulled in all the required configuration from the database and started the dispatcher and server successfully. After that - installation went on smoothly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trying to download whole JDK & JRE and NOT installation programs

    Hi all,
    I want to download the JRE and JDK in one go and not download an installation program for each one. Ive searched everywhere but surely sun must provide these? Also does anyone know where i can get my hands on a downloadable version of the API docs?
    Many thanks

    Please note that this applies to the currrent java version installed on "standard" windows systems, only.
    To download the current version of Java, go here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
    and click on the word DOWNLOAD in the column labeled SDK in this line: Windows Offline installation (info)
    The API documentation can be downloaded from this same page, just scroll down...
    After downloading, click on this page of installation instructions and read through #6:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
    Install the software according to the preceeding instructions. During the installation process, you will be asked if you want to install a public JRE. Answer YES, this is the separate JRE that gets installed in C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_01.
    If you encounter problems, see the section "Troubleshooting the Installation" in the installation instructions.

    I am working on a machine which does not grant my user the admin rights. I had wanted to use JDK with Netbeans. The Netbeans was available as ZIP file, but it required pre-installed JDK. I am not able to install JDK (latest version 1.6 u12) as non-admin user. Is this even possible and how?
    Operating System : Windows XP (SP3)
    JDK Version : 1.6 update 12

    Contact your admin and ask him to install or to give you local admin rights.

    It looks like this leak occurrs when getStackTrace() is called on a Thread.
    I've found that the included program will continually allocate memory on the process heap until the JVM cannot allocate memory and it exits with the following exception.
    Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 16 bytes for C_Heap: ResourceOBJ. Out of swap space?
    import java.lang.StackTraceElement;
    import java.lang.Thread;
    public class TraceIt {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("Starting trace");
    int i = 0;
    while (true)
    if (i%100 == 0) System.out.println(i);
    StackTraceElement[] se = Thread.currentThread().getStackTrace();
    i++;
    } Any ideas what would cause this? Is it a JVM bug?

  • JDK 1.3.1_01a installs incorrectly.

    I installed the last update of 1.3.1_01a.
    The installation step seems OK.
    I choose the default directory.
    But, when I try to launch an applet from within IE, it complains that roughly (translating from french):
    "Unable to load Java execution environment from <\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll>"
    I presume this is a little problem with PATH environment variables or something. But I know nothing about Windows.
    Any help is welcome

    Do keep in mind that IE uses it's own version of Java. The one you installed has nothing to do with IE.
    Sounds like you may have an Internut Exploder problem. :o) Try upgrading your version of Internet Explorer.

  • Flash 12.0.0.77 plugin installs to wrong folder

    In Vista x64, using either Firefox 28 or Firefox 24.4 ESR, the plugin installer (one downloaded from Adobe distribution) installs the 32 bit .dll file to \system32\macromedia\flash\ folder;
    installs the 64 bit .dll to:  \sysWOW64\macromedia\flash\  folder.  So, they're exacly reversed.
    I uninstalled it completely - went well.  Then removed 1 remaining file in one of the above paths, then reinstalled.  Did the same thing.
    Before I did all this - I was *very sporadically* seeing the FlashPlayerPlugin_12_0_0_77.exe file, running (kinda "sitting") in background, in task manager.  It never came to foreground w/ a UI, asking for anything.  Couldn't figure out what it was, until started looking in the installation folders.
    That's what lead to discovery the files were in wrong folders.
    Anyone heard of this?
    BTW, "Nayana" of Adobe Support chat, is a few bricks shy of a load.  Or I am.  I couldn't create an acct for forums.  She kept saying, you don't need an acct - "just post your question.  Other people will answer it."

    EDIT:  Seems there's no error in Flash installing to wrong folders, only error in my brain.  Why didn't someone stop me from embarrassing myself?
    System32 (in a 64 bit OS / architecture) is for 64 bit drivers, files; SysWOW64 is for 32 bit apps running in 64 bit OS.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64
    WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows operating system capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows
    Also, http://www.samlogic.net/articles/32-64-bit-windows-folder-x86-syswow64.htm (section on SysWoW64)
    End Edit.
    Thanks for info on attaching images.  A bit different than most forums.  There's no "preview post" before submitting?
    Screenshots of the 2 flash folder contents.
    NOTE:  I attached full FlashInstall.log earlier.  I opened the 1.25 MB (text) file in an editor - copied contents to clipboard > paste to forum reply screen.  Immediately locked up Firefox like a big dog.  Couldn't perform any functions in Fx - not even reload or close browser.  At same time, Fx memory use was continually climbing; to nearly 2 GB when I killed it.  Won't make that mistake again.
    Been many yrs since Fx locked up, doing anything.  That aside, Adobe is definitely "different" than most forums.  Almost like a person w/ no $ to use one of the many forum softwares available.
    Most recent Flash installation logs.
