Instance pooling across a cluster

I have to work in a cluster and am new to Weblogic.
What I need to do: specify the maximam number of instances created for
a stateless session bean
What I know: It can be achieved in a EJB container via instance
pooling algorithm.
What I don't know: Whether it can be achieved in a cluster? i.e. Can
a stateless session bean be pooled across a cluster?
Help needed!!!!
Many thanks

"<max-beans-in-free-pool>" tag will do the job for you. But this is
per server pool size.

StatelessSessionBean, by default, is clusterable. So client call on this
bean will round-robin
on the servers of the cluster. But pool size is per server. Each server,
hosting this SLSB, will
have the pool size defined in the <max-beans-in-free-pool> tag.

  • WLS 6.1 - targeting pools to BOTH cluster and servers?

    Hello everybody,
I'm currently debugging JDBC issues on an existing WLS 6.1 environment.
I see that the connection pools and their data sources are targeted to BOTH a cluster AND each of the individual WLS instances that compose THAT cluster.
In your opinion, is that a correct configuration?
The WLS documentation states that a pool/source pair may actually be targeted to both a cluster and an individual server, but it does not specify anything about the individual server belonging or not to that cluster.
    Can anyone help, please?
    TIA!!!

  • How can I get data in flat file from Pool table and cluster table ?

    Hi,
I am working in one Achiving project. My requirement is to get data into flat file from Cluster table and pool table.
Is there any tool avilable to download data into flat file from pool table and cluster table ?
if table name given in the selection screen then data will be downloaded into flat file.
    waiting for quick response.
    Best Regards,
    Bansidhar

Data cannot be retrived directly form the cluster table
as the Cluster results are stored in Cluster Key say for example PCLkey
and form that Key we need to fetch the data
these clustes are not the part of PNP or PNPCE tables
    for ur info kindly check

  • SSAS 2012 (SP2) - Connecting to a Named Instance in a Failover Cluster

I posted this question some months ago and never got a resolution...still having the same problem. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/4178ba62-87e2-4672-a4ef-acd970ac1011/ssas-2012-sp1-connecting-to-a-named-instance-in-a-failover-cluster?forum=sqlanalysisservices)
I have a 3 node failover cluster installation (active-passive-passive) configured as follows:
    Node1: DB Engine 1 (named instance DB01)
    Node2: DB Engine 2 (named instance DB02)
Node3: Analysis Services (named instance DBAS)
Obviously, the node indicated is merely the default active node for each service, with each service able to fail from node to node as required.
Strangely, when I attempt to connect to the SSAS node using the cluster netbios "alias" (dunno, what else it would be called, so I apologize if I am mixing terminology or somesuch), I am only able to do so by specifying the the alias _without_ the
required named instance. If I issue a connection request using an external program or even SSMS using Node3\DBAS or Node3.domain\DBAS, it appears that the SQL Server Browser is offering up a bogus TCP port for the named instance (in my case TCP/58554), when
in reality, the SSAS service is running on TCP/2383 (confirmed with netstat) -- which if I understand correctly after much, much reading on the subject is the only port that can be used in a failover cluster. In any case, I'm puzzled beyond words. As I think
through it, I believe I've seen this issue in the past, but never worried about it since it wasn't necessary to specify the named instance when I had SSAS requirements... It's only a showstopper now because I'm finalizing my implementation of SCVMM/SCOM 2012
R2, and for some strange reason the PRO configuration in VMM gets all butthurt if you don't offer up a named instance...
Thank you much for reading. I appreciate any help to get this resolved.
    POSSIBLY NOT RELEVANT...?
I've properly configured the SPNs for the SSAS service (MSOLAPSvc.3) and the SQL Browser (MSOLAPDisco.3), with the former mapped to the SSAS service account and the latter to the cluster "alias" (since it runs as "NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSERVICE"
as is customary) and have permitted delegation on the service and machine accounts as required. So, I'm not getting any kerberos issues with the service...any more, that is... ;) I'm not sure that's important, but I wanted to be forthcoming with details to
    help solve the issue.

When connecting to SSAS in a cluster, you do not specify an instance name.  In your case, you would use the name of the SSAS IP address to connect.
    See:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn141153.aspx
For servers deployed in a failover cluster, connect using the network name of the SSAS cluster. This name is specified during SQL Server setup, as
SQL Server Network Name. Note that if you installed SSAS as a named instance onto a Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC), you never add the instance name on the connection. This practice is unique to SSAS; in contrast, a named
instance of a clustered relational database engine does include the instance name. For example, if you installed both SSAS and the database engine as named instance (Contoso-Accounting) with a SQL Server Network Name of SQL-CLU, you would connect to SSAS using
"SQL-CLU" and to the database engine as "SQL-CLU\Contoso-Accounting". See
How to Cluster SQL Server Analysis Services for more information and examples.

  • Inforation on Pool tables and cluster tables required.

I want to know about the pool tables and cluster tables like how to create them and how to look the tables associated with the given tables. Like for the table BSEG we have other tables linked BSID etc. I'm new to this concept please guide me.

    <b>Pooled Table:</b>
A pooled table in R/3 has a many-to-one relationship with a table in the database (see Figures 3.1 and 3.2). For one table in the database, there are many tables in the R/3 Data Dictionary. The table in the database has a different name than the tables in the DDIC, it has a different number of fields, and the fields have different names as well. Pooled tables are an SAP proprietary construct.
When you look at a pooled table in R/3, you see a description of a table. However, in the database, it is stored along with other pooled tables in a single table called a table pool. A table pool is a database table with a special structure that enables the data of many R/3 tables to be stored within it. It can only hold pooled tables.
R/3 uses table pools to hold a large number (tens to thousands) of very small tables (about 10 to 100 rows each). Table pools reduce the amount of database resources needed when many small tables have to be open at the same time. SAP uses them for system data. You might create a table pool if you need to create hundreds of small tables that each hold only a few rows of data. To implement these small tables as pooled tables, you first create the definition of a table pool in R/3 to hold them all. When activated, an associated single table (the table pool) will be created in the database. You can then define pooled tables within R/3 and assign them all to your table pool.
Pooled tables are primarily used by SAP to hold customizing data.
    <b>Cluster Table:</b>
A cluster table is similar to a pooled table. It has a many-to-one relationship with a table in the database. Many cluster tables are stored in a single table in the database called a table cluster.
A table cluster is similar to a table pool. It holds many tables within it. The tables it holds are all cluster tables.
Like pooled tables, cluster tables are another proprietary SAP construct. They are used to hold data from a few (approximately 2 to 10) very large tables. They would be used when these tables have a part of their primary keys in common, and if the data in these tables are all accessed simultaneously.
Table clusters contain fewer tables than table pools and, unlike table pools, the primary key of each table within the table cluster begins with the same field or fields. Rows from the cluster tables are combined into a single row in the table cluster. The rows are combined based on the part of the primary key they have in common. Thus, when a row is read from any one of the tables in the cluster, all related rows in all cluster tables are also retrieved, but only a single I/O is needed.
A cluster is advantageous in the case where data is accessed from multiple tables simultaneously and those tables have at least one of their primary key fields in common. Cluster tables reduce the number of database reads and thereby improve performance.
Restrictions on Pooled and Cluster Tables
    1. Pooled and cluster tables are usually used only by SAP and not used by customers, probably because of the proprietary format of these tables within the database and because of technical restrictions placed upon their use within ABAP/4 programs. On a pooled or cluster table:
    2. Secondary indexes cannot be created.
    3. You cannot use the ABAP/4 constructs select distinct or group by.
    4.You cannot use native SQL.
5.You cannot specify field names after the order by clause. order by primary key is the only permitted variation.

  • Data Guard - Keeping same SID/Instance Name across both sites

    Hello,
We are working on a project to move the databases from legacy to new servers. The migration plan is to use Data Guard option for our migration strategy. We would like to know followings.
    1) Is it possible to build stand by databases with same instance name of legacy primary instances? If so, how it could be?
    2) If not, we can build stand by database with different instance name (DB_UNIQUE_NAME). Do the switch over and cut off the replication with legacy primary database. Once done, What other alternative do we have to change the instance name same like legacy database instances?
The ultimate goal is to retain same DB name and instance name in new server with minimum downtime.
    Database - 11.2.0.3.0
Database Type - Oracle restart and RAC
    O.S. - RHEL 6.3
The requirement is have same DB name and instance name across sites.
    Primary site - X node
    Primary DB - EODSS
    Primary DB instances - EODSS1, EODSS1
    Standby Site - Y node
    StandBy DB - EODS
    StandBy instances - EODSS1, EODSS1
    Thanks,

    Hello;
    1) Is it possible to build stand by databases with same instance name of legacy primary instances? If so, how it could be?
Yes. Not sure I understand the second part of the question. I like to think of a standby database and a primary database as the same database in different modes. RMAN treats them as the same. They have the same DBID.
    2) If not, we can build stand by database with different instance name (DB_UNIQUE_NAME). Do the switch over and cut off the replication with legacy primary database. Once done, What other alternative do we have to change the instance name same like legacy database instances?
It should not matter what the database name is. Almost everything connects using an Alias. I find it easier to use a slightly different name for the Standby because then I know which site I'm working on. What I did was put an S in front of the name on the standby side to keep them apart in my mind. A tnsnames entry can handle the rest. So yes you can do that, but it might be harder to keep track that way.

  • Synchronization of memberLeaving event across the cluster

    Hi,
Let's assume that we have 2 nodes and one of them is leaving the cluster (but will continue to operate alone). Both nodes use a MemberListener to react to the memberLeaving(MemberEvent) event. Moreover, in our case as part of the leaving event logic we need to send a lot of messages from one node to the other node. That is why we need to have both nodes be part of the cluster until the leaving event is done in all nodes.
So my question is: Will be node leaving the cluster wait to actually leave the cluster once all the other nodes (and itself too) finished processing the memberLeaving event?
In case the answer is no I was thinking that the way to ensure a proper clean up would be to do all the clean up logic in the node leaving the cluster but that would imply bringing all the shared/cached data to the leaving node and that wouldn't be a scalable operation.
    Ideas are welcome. :)
    Thanks,
    -- Gato

    Hi Gato,
The memberLeaving event is an asynchronous notification raised on a node B when another node A issues a programmatic Service.shutdown() or Cluster.shutdown() call. There is no way for code running on B to block or delay the shutdown process on the node A.
If you want to "negotiate" the conditions of a clean shutdown between cluster nodes, you would need to use a "satellite" InvocationService to communicate all necessary information and actions across the cluster before initiating the shutdown sequence.

  • Will the Application Scope be shared across the cluster in a multi-node OC4

    Hi,
    I have the following requirement:
Users of the application can only have single (browser) session. When a user who already has a session connects again, he should no longer be allowed to access the older session.
    My proposed implementation is:
    -     After successful login – possibly using a Session Listener - an entry is made in a HashMap UserSessions that lives in the application scope. Key is the username, value is the session id (HttpSession.getId()).
    -     For every request, using a ServletFilter, we check whether the session is still in the UserSessions HashMap for the current user. If a new session has been created for the same user, the session id for that new session is in the UserSessions map and the servletfilter will not find the session. In that case, the filter should invalidate the session and forward to the user to an error page.
However, the application will run on a multi-node OC4J cluster. I am starting to wonder:
Will the Application Scope be shared across the cluster in a multi-node OC4J environment?
I know session state can be shared. But what application state/scope?
Does anyone know? Do I have to do anything special in the cluster or the application to get this to work?
    Thanks for your help.
    Lucas

    gday Lucas --
Application scope is not replicated across JVM boundaries with OC4J.
I'm sure this used to be described in the doc, but I can't find it now from a quick scan.
If you wanted to use this type of pattern, you could look to use a Coherence cache as distribution mechanism to share objects across multiple JVMs/nodes.

  • Instance Pool

I am new to Weblogic & started straight away from 6.1. I am learning Stateful session bean. While going thru Stateful Session Bean tutorial, there is a mention that (which is a vendor specific) we can define & force the container to have a maximum number of instances of Beans in the instance pool.
In WLS 6.1, in which file one define the number of instances of EJB to be created in the pool maintained by EJB container?

  • Generic extractors on pool table and Cluster tables

    Good Afternoon all,
Can we create generic extractors on Cluster or pool Table. If yes Let me know how?
I am trying to create a Generic Extractor on BSEC Table but it is not allowing me to do this. It throws error that"Extraction from pool tables and cluster tables is not permitted"
    Kindly guide me on this
    Thanks,
    Vaishali.

    Hi
you cannot do generic extraction directly on pooled or cluster tables.
You can create a function module, then you can create a Generic Data source based on this..
    Hope it helps,
    Thanks,

I have been looking around and I have been unable to find anything very helpful on how to setup toplink to be able to keep the cache in sync across the cluster. Has anyone does this on 10g with POJO's? If so can you please point me to an example or a good piece of documentation?
    Thanks
    Marc

The documentation on Cache synch can be found starting on page 8-3 on the 10g (9.0.4) release.

How to find which instance in the RAC cluster the application is connected to ?
    Raees

well if you know the user through which your application is connected to instance, you can easily find out by querying gv$session view.
    select inst_id,sid,serial#,program,username from gv$session where username is not null;
    Thanks
