Intall X3270 Terminal emulator on Solaris 10 x86

Hi! I'm trying to install IBM 3270 Terminal Emulator from source code on solaris 10 x86. I had some problems when I run ./configure but was PATH's configuration. Now I'm trying to run make but at certain moment the folowing erro return:
makeconv -d . -p icudt3l ibm-837_P100-2000.ucm
sh: makeconv: not found
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `icudt3l_ibm-837_P100-2000.cnv'
I tried to find this 'makeconv' but I haven't found. Does anybody have some esperience with the instalation of X3270? Thank's a lot.

problem 1 is that it's looking for ../../s0.. Which I
managed to
fake out by creating the dir in the same mount
point.
Problem 2 is that it can't find .tmp_proto, which I
must
concur with. I can't find that on any of the b72 cd
images.
So, the setup_install_server fails. This seems to be the problem when you try to setup an install
server on a Solaris SPARC system for Solaris x86 clients, using
the Solaris 9 or Solaris 10/Express CD media.
There's a Solaris x86 UFS filesystem on slice 0 on the CD media,
and it's supposed to be mounted on the "s0" mount point,
otherwise setup_install_server won't work. On a Solaris x86 box,
vold mounts it automatically for you: /cdrom/cdrom0/s2 is the
mount point for the platform independant ISO9660 part of the CD
media, /cdrom/cdrom0/s0 is the UFS root filesystem.
Problem is that Solaris SPARC:
- does not understand Solaris x86 disk labels
- does not allow mounting x86 UFS filesystems
(and vice versa).
AFAIK, Solaris 9 DVD media does not have this problem. I
guess the same will be true when Solaris 10 DVD media is
available in a few months. On the DVD media there's enough
free space to include an extra copy of the files in the ISO9660
filesystem.

  • Solaris x86 with card on-board

    Hi all,
I got a problem when installing Solaris9 x86 on ibm NetVista Machine.
I have installed 2 other machines with separated network card sucessfully. I can configure to connecto to my LAN network.
But when install on 2 ibm NetVista machines (which include onboard network card ), It is fail to be configured to connect to the network in both following cases:
Case 1: I choose proper driver as Sun suggest for Intel VE Pro(R) 10/100 : iprb. And the Solaris detect successfully. I checked by "ifconfig -a" and saw the network card active on "iprb0".
Next, I following correct instructions to configure the network card to connect to the LAN. But when i ping IP (9.187.186.18) to other computer in our same subnet LAN,
The system display eg: "No anwer from 9.187.186.18"
I run the "snoop" command to view broadcasr ARP in an other terminal. The snoop terminal displays ARP signal boradcasting from the Solaris. However, it can nerver get ARPs from other computer in LAN.
Case 2: I add 3COM network driver to the solaris ( onboard card is no loger used ). The system can auto-detected this card and i can configure to connect to the network. The problem remain unchange.
Is there any special in IBM Netvista machine need to be configure under Solaris x86 or any particular configuarion for on-board network card. ???
Can any boy help me to solve this problem ??
    Best regards,
    Thang,
    Vietsoftware Developer

However, it can nerver get ARPs from other computer in LAN.Are you perhaps running "snoop" on a box different from the one that you're trying to ping, and are you using
a switched ethernet? In that case it would be OK if you only see the ARP broadcast, because the ping target
box will send the ARP reply directly to the MAC of the requesting station (i.e. there's no ARP broadcast reply),
and an ethernet switch will send the ARP reply directly to the port where the station with the given destination
MAC is connected - no other port should see the reply.
If you're trying to ping 9.187.186.18 from the new Solaris x86 box, try to run snoop on the 9.187.186.18
system. 9.187.186.18 should see the ARP broadcast from the LAN, and the 9.187.186.18 box should list the
ARP response it sends back to the LAN.
Is there any special in IBM Netvista machine need to be configure under Solaris x86 or any particular
configuarion for on-board network card. ???I guess the interrupt handler for the NIC is not working, so the Solaris x86 sees no incomming packets.

  • Terminal emulation

I have had quite some trouble installing Solaris on a NetraX1 server using my PC as console and using the RJ45 cable with DB9 adapter delivered with the server. The problem is that I don't get the correct terminal emulation. All the menus you have to go through are not properly displayed with the result that my installation completely failed. The only correct way I know for the moment is to connect the new server to an existing server using CDE so that I can use cmdtool and tip hardwire to have correct emulation.
    Who can help me ?
Please contact me privately at [email protected]

I suggest you set your PC to VT-100 emulation.

  • Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive

    Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:
    # mount -F nfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt
nfs mount: x.x.x.x: : RPC: Program not registered
    nfs mount: retrying: /mnt
    # mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/f /mnt

    # mount -F hsfs x.x.x.x:/F /mnt
    mount: No such device
    mount: cannot mount x.x.x.x:/F
[FYI: S10_106_SOFTWARE is the DVD's label as reported by Windows Explorer.]

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.

After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares

  • [SOLVED] Terminal emulator that allows free resizing?

EDIT: Answered my own question; terminator allows per-pixel resizing if you disable window hinting in the preferences.
I have an annoyance with resizing terminal emulators. I use stacking WMs (xfwm4 on one setup, compiz standalone on another) but I usually like to tile my windows manually. I've enabled edge snapping in both of these WMs. However, whenever I'm resizing a terminal window, the snapping doesn't work because the terminal window can't be freely resized - I can only change the size of the window by one character's height/width. For example, if a terminal is open at 80x36, and I want to make it just a little bit wider to snap against the edge of another window, I can't because it won't let me resize the window between 80 and 81 characters.
I've tried xfce's terminal, gnome-terminal, lxterminal, xterm, urxvt, and st. Can someone direct me to a terminal emulator that will let me resize windows to whatever size I want, regardless of whether it is a discrete character size, or am I out of luck?
P.S. I've noticed that if I resize a window with wmctrl and issue the resize command twice, then xfce's terminal behaves the way it should. Can I replicate this behavior for resizing with the mouse?

A terminal emulator and X Window GUI are different things. You can have a terminal emulator in a graphical desktop environment, but you cannot display GUI in a terminal.
Putty is just a SSH client and terminal emulator (VT) and can be used with X-forwarding to display remote GUI applications (Linux), provided you are have a X Window server installed and running on your local computer, e.g. Xming Server for Windows.
Perhaps you will find the free version of http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/ useful. It is a single application based on Cygwin that allows you run GUI applications from your remote Linux system.
By far the best terminal emulator in terms of user interface and configuration options that I’m aware of is the Terminal App of MacOSX, which also automatically opens Xorg if you open a GUI application. And it provides the full set of terminal escape sequences. But if you are on Windows….
Alternatively, use VNC. You can run VNC in several modes, either to open an existing remote desktop connection, start a new desktop connection, or run a minimal X windows server, such as TWM that does not require you to install or run a graphical user desktop on your remote Linux server. If you are interested in VNC, perhaps check the following: https://community.oracle.com/thread/2456580. You can also tunnel VNC through SSH if your network firewall prevents communication.

  • Is there a terminal emulator with up- down output?

The idea just hit me but it's very hard to find something in search or on google (up and down are popular keywords...).
Here's my idea: the terminal I use (urxvt) and every other I heard of always outputs text sort of 'upwards'. Meaning: the prompt line is mostly on the bottom (and if you use a tiling wm like me it's mostly on the bottom of the screen), well except for new terminal windows of course.
I thought it would be cool if it could be on the top of the screen and the lines would be output towards the bottom of the window. Get it? If you would take a normal terminal window and reverse the lines order, this would be exactly what I need.
    Quick example:
    A normal terminal
    [user@desktop]: ls -l
    drwxr-xr-x 5 user user 4096 Jan 17 12:53 dir1
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 user user 30 Dec 23 17:14 a-link
    drwxr-xr-x 2 user user 4096 Feb 10 13:26 dir2
    [user@desktop]: _
    What I would like
    [user@desktop]: _
    drwxr-xr-x 5 user user 4096 Jan 17 12:53 dir1
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 user user 30 Dec 23 17:14 a-link
    drwxr-xr-x 2 user user 4096 Feb 10 13:26 dir2
    [user@desktop]: ls -l
Get it? Top -> down! So the prompt always gravitates toward the top of the window (provided enough output of course)
So anyway, back to the question: is there a terminal emulator that can do it?

    lives2evil wrote:Interesting idea!
But no, as far as I know there's no such things.
Any if you think it a little further, it's a trouble some idea. You may not notice with a simple "ls" command but with something more complex trouble will pop up every where.
How about you try and think how exactly will you implemented this idea.
    Could be fun (Tried it).
Heh yea, i just did the same and came to the same conclusions.

  • Oracle 8.1.5 Client/WLS/Solaris x86

has anyone been able to get Oracle's client 8.1.5 running on Solaris x86 in conjunction with WLS to talk to back-end Oracle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

This will not work. We have not built the native libraries to work with
    Solaris on Intel..
I suggest trying the platform independent type 4 JDBC driver available for
free from Oracle. It is supported (as is any JDBC driver) with WebLogic
    Server. To download it:
Go to http://www.oracle.com and select the "Download" option.
From the resulting page, use the "Select Utility or Driver" dropdown to
    select Oracle JDBC drivers
From the resulting page, scroll down a little (since SQLJ stuff appears at
    the top).
    Or, to go directly there:
    http://technet.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/software_index.htm

  • How to upgrade oracle 32 to 64 bit on sun solaris x86 64 bit OS?

    Hi,
I want to upgrade/convert 32 bit Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 to 64 bit database. Existing 32 bit database is RAC and it is running on Sun Solaris X86 64 bit OS.
First, I want to know is it possible?
If yes, then what are the exact steps?

    Hi,
Such a migration can be done, just follow the steps in Metalink note 62290.1
It is important to remember that 64-bit database requires more shared pool memory so you should increase your shared pool size.

  • How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

    Hello people,
I want to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center platform.
If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.

    Dear Gents,
I have one X86 Solaris Server configured and installed to be Sun Management Center Server.
successfully i could monitor the Sun Solaris Servers after i have installed the SMC agent on them.
my problem is that i could not install the SMC agent on Red Hat Linux. as i could not find an easy document or steps to do so.
could you guide please? If you still have a copy of your SunMC media around, the same ["es-inst"|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2215/command-line-1?l=en&a=view] program you use to install Solaris Agents should work on Linux as well. It autodetects OS type and will install Solaris packages or RPMs as appropriate.

  • How to integrate Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

Can anybody give me ideas to install and integrate my solaris x86 server on SunMC ?
    Thanks

    Hi
From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.
    Hope this helps

  • From 7.3 on NT to 8 on Solaris x86?

Has Oracle ported Oracle8 for Solaris x86?

    Hi,
usually I expect people to do a little research and I do not give everything chewed.
    Point 4:
    go to the
    <b>Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2)</b>
    go to the chapter 3
    <b>Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle9i Release</b>
    go to the point:
    <b>Upgrade the Database Manually</b>
    Exactly from here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96530/upgrade.htm#1009200
    Keep in mind
    1) that the <i>EXACT </i>procedure you are following it is not indicated in this manual
    2) you have to think a little ( do you have all the windows services created on the destination system? if not, you have to create them ... )
    3) this procedure is not supported by SAP. It is a valid option but not supported by them. You have to practice until you get all the points correctly
