The connection objects are store in the CI_APPOBJECTS repository table with SI_KIND='Metadata.DataConnection' . The connection properties are stored as property bags along with your objects.
Unfortunately I have just found a reference that this kind of access in not fully supported though and you may have to use the Universe Designer SDK (COM based)

  • BOE MySQL login information

I have recently taken over a BOE XI installation and need to upgrade to 3.1. Where can i find the database/user and password information the BOE uses to login to mySQL? Is this stored in any ini or properties files ? and in which directories?
    Thank you for any guidance.
BTW, the database I am interested in is the CMS database not the reporting data database...

    Hi,
This information is encrypted and therefore you wonu2019t be able to see the password in plain text. However, you can reset the root password. The steps are described in this KB:

  • Can I install BOE XI r2 on a CE 10 Server (not upgrade)?

Greetings! I have recently inherited responsibility of getting all our customers upgraded to BOE XI from CE 10. I am finding that if you attempt to install BOE XI R2 on the server that currently has CE 10, you have no choice but to upgrade.
Upgrading has two problems for our organization:
#1- The events brought over from the CE 10 server do not function. You can see them,
the history is all there, the schedule is "known" to BOE, but the data source is incorrect
and cannot be updated. This could probably qualify as another question but frankly, I do
not care if I fix this problem, provided I can do a separate BOE install and run the import
             utility. This is because of.......
#2-  When you upgrade there is no choice for changing the SQL database that Enterprise
uses. We are a Progress shop, not an SQL shop so uniformity is very important here.
Almost all installs/ upgrades will be performed by simply following printed directions.
All new BOE customers will be on MySQL (as shipped with BOE R2), we really want
consistent installs across our customer base if possible.
Obviously installing BOE XI R2 on a separate server would be an option but many of the smaller customers are barely using Enterprise now and not in a financial position to just go out and buy new servers.
What is BOE XI R2 looking for to determine that CE is installed? Is there a way to "trick" the installer into performing a fresh install yet still maintain the old CE MS SQL database to import the reports and repository?
Thank-you in advance for any help you can provide.

    William,
It is not possible to install BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2 alongside of Crystal Enterprise 10.  You will have to upgrade the servers in place.  Although speaking through my experience this process is fairly seemless and hardly ever has issue.  If you are looking to do side by side installs and saving costs for your customer base I would recommend looking at using a virtualization product like VMware Server or Workstation as a temporary bridge to get both products installed side by side.  Also one other thing you mentioned you are a progress shop, but you should know that the CMS repository database that runs the application can not be hosted on progress.  MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, UDB DB2 and Sybase your only options for the CMS.  For reporting you can use a wider range of products.

  • HOW-TO CLUSTER BOBJ XI 3.1 on HP-UX with MySQL

    Hello,
I need to understand how to perform an installation of BOBJ XI 3.1 on HP-UX in a cluster.
The official documentation it's a bit weird.
Someone  can give more hints on the steps to follow? what should be installed on the first node , what in the second and what is clustered?
I think MySQL should be clustered before that.
    any suggestion?

So, you have 2 HP-UX boxes and you want to install BOE on both using default mysql DB and cluster those nodes together - correct ?
    1. you don't need to cluster mysql, you should probably not even use mysql and use another DB located on a separate box.
    2. You install BOE on server 1, make sure all is working.
    3. You install BOE on server 2 and select expanded install scenario in the wizard, when asked for CMS server - give name of the server 1 install. follow the prompts.
#2 and 3 assume you have setup a DB to host CMS DB for BOE on a third server.
If you want to use mysql on server 1 as the CMS DB for the cluster (which is a bad idea) , then you have to connect to mysql DB and enable remote access to it.
you can google the steps fro that.

  • SAP Integration Kits 3.1 and BOE 3.1

I have downloaded the BOE 3.1.
Following Ingo's blog to install the XI 3.1 (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs;jsessionid=(J2EE3414900)ID1014068050DB12009102240881561803End?blog=/pub/wlg/11076), I have a very different screen after specifying the Server Intelligent Agent. I have a screen where I need to specify CMS Database Infomartion:
    Database
    Server
    Port
    Username
    Password
I have specify the above parameters but hits the following error:
BusinessObjects Enterprise CMS: Unable to connect to the CMS system database "MySQL_CMS:Marcos:3306".
Reason: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'Marcos' (10061)
Does it mean that I would need to configure/setup the MySQL Server on my server (Marcos) first?
    Please advise, thank you.

because there is MySQL installed on the system already.
You have to either use this MySQL where you need to create the database first.
    OR
Delete/uninstall this MySQL. When you install the BOE, BOE will automatically install the MySQL for you.

  • Uninstall DS 3.0 also uninstalls BOE XI 3.0 MYSQL.

    Hi All,
I had an issue where the DS 3.0 repo was pointing to the default BOE XI 3.0 MYSQL installation.
The issue was when I updagred DS 3.0 to DS 3.1 I went to uninstall DS 3.0, the uninstallation processes also went and removed MYSQL that was installed fro BOE XI 3.0.
Could you please confim that this is the correct workings of the unistallation processes of DS 3.0.
    Thank you
    Kind regards
    Hai.

I can confirm that this is what will happen during the uninstall. That bug did cost us some grieve. Fixed in 3.1 (DI 12.1).

  • Failed to create MySQL tables. Installation aborted. BOE XI 3.1 Linux

Tried to do a full install of BOE XI 3.1 Linux on Redhat 5 with at least the mimimum requirements and it goes through fine but then in the end errors out with "Failed to create MySQL tables. Installation aborted." Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it?

    Hello Fred,
I recommend to post this query to the [BusinessObjects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.
This forum is dedicated to topics related to administration and configuration of BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, and Crystal Reports Server.
It is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Also, all BOE Administration queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.

  • Forgotten BOE and Mysql passwords

    Hi,
We used to run BOE XI 3.1 on Windows server 2003.
The system hasnt been used in about 2 years, and we now need to revive it. But we have no recollection of the usernames\passwords for any of it.
I've managed to reset the Mysql password, and reset the password for BOE(Like ive read in other forums), but this has resulted in not being able to access the CMC - the page dosnt show up. Im assuming because BOE wont be able to connect to the db, because of the new password.
Is there any way to change the Mysql connection settings for BOE?
    Regards,

    Hi Jeff,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    Managed to resolve it:
Had to go into the Central Configuration Manager... Click on properties... Then the configuration tab... then click on specifiy - It allowed me to specify the new password there.

  • BOE XI 3.1 Client Tools

During the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 instllation ->Install Type, I selected:
"New" and "Install MySQL Database server". Also check the check-box "Enable server upon installation"
Then continue with the installation. Completed succesffully.
This also means I have installed all the client-tools (Web Intelligent, Desktop Intelligent etc) on the server.
Now if the user need to the access to Webi and create and publish the query into CMS, how do they actually access to the WEBI?
Do we need to install the WEBI again on each of their machine?
Edited by: lynn on Mar 10, 2010 2:17 AM

    Hi Stratos,
Thanks again for you explanation, that really make thing clear!!!
    1) Use the web-based version of WebI. Your users will be able to create and view WebI reports using their internet browser.
If I am using this option, that's mean I dont have to install the Webi Rich Client on each users workstation as I have already install them on the BOE Server. All the user need to do is basically logon to BOE InfoView, then create and publish the Webi document on the BOBJ repository and the rest of the user can access them, correct?
    2) Deploy the WebI richt client on the user's workstation. This stand-alone client tool allows you to develop and view WebI reports. You can then export the reports to the BOBJ repository and thus make them available for your report consumers, ho will use their browser to view the report (Option 1)
If I choose this option, I still install the Webi Rich Client form the BOE XI 3.1 (Server/client) software , but during the Install Type step, I choose Custom or Expand Install, correct?
    Please advise, thank you,.

  • Use of MYSQL when installing Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1

    Hello Team,
I am quite new Business Objects and right now I am using Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1.
when installing BO XI 3.1, I was prompted to select the database server to be created. I chose MySQL.
Now, I am curious to know the pupose/involvement of a database server for BO. I understand that the database is being managed/used by CMS and it has four main functions:
    Maintains security (users)
Manages objects (folders, reports, and program objects)
    Manages servers (services)
    Manages auditing (system auditor).
Is there any better explanation to the database and its purpose?
what does the database schema/user holds (any database objects,tables,etc..,)?
Does repository and database schema the same?
Are all the report objects, users and universe being stored in the database schema?
Thanks in advance for the reply.
    Regards,
    Kathir

CMS handles security and routes the request to other services.
Yes, CMS also maintains the BOE repository.
CMS is responsible for authenticating users and groups, and keeping track of the availability of the other BusinessObjects Enterprise services. If CMS is down then users wont be able to log into BOE.
Report Objects, Universe are stored in the Input File Repository and the instances are stored in Output File Repository server.
In simple words, CMS is like heart of BOE.

    Hi,
No problems,  but with all due respect - those are the official documentation!  You can trust this content - it's published by us @SAP
If you're new the BO server admin, those .pdf Admin guides are your 'reference texts' and will become indispensible.
Also, please search the SDN for articles, as Denis mentionned in the other thread. For example: http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/UpgradetoSp2-Testingandbackup+strategy
if you are new to this I would advise caution. Those step by steps (I previously referenced) are absolutely accurate. If you cannot make sense of these, then you may need to work collaboratively with colleagues using the 4-eye principle.
... which is sort of like a human backup strategy

  • BOE XI v3.1 Custom Installation

Running a Custom installation of BOE XI v3.1 is forcing the use of MySQL as our CMS database. One of the first installation screens has us choosing "Custom" or "New" installation.
But there is no possibility of choosing an existing database server with the "Custom" install.
According the installation guide, pg. 73, we should be able to use an existing database server for the CMS with a Custom installation.
We would like to use SQL Server and have set up the database and ODBC. There is no problem configuring this when we try a "New" installation, the problem only occurs with the "Custom" installation.

Yes, I think we did select "Enable servers upon installation". On the "Please select which features you would like to Install" screen, when selecting to install "Central management Server", we expanded the Central Management Server and for MySql selected "Entire feature will be Unavailable". Look at page 69, step 3 of XI3.1 installation guide for Windows.

  • CMS report service not installed during installation of BOE XI 3.1 SP3

    Hi,
Our current deployment is Windows 2008 64 bit / MySQL.
During the installation, I got the error "The Central Management Server has failed to start. Press 'Retry' to attempt to start it again or 'Cancel' to skip any actions dependent on the Central Management Server. STW00213." I pressed 'Retry', but did not help, so 'Cancel' to continue.
After I got the message "BOE 3.1 has been successfully installed", I went to CMS, and saw only 2 servers (Tomcat and WinHTTP Web Proxy).
How do I get Report application service?
    Please help!!
    Thanks.

Please add your hostname and ip address in the <WIndows installation directory>\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and try to reinstall. Make sure that you are using an account that is part of the Locla administrators group to do the installation. If possible deactivate temporarily any virus scanner and firewall running on your server.

  • Crystal Report on Universe with MySQL ODBC

    Hi
I created a report with Crystal reports by using a Universe based on MySQL ODBC. In my local (Windows XP) installed Report Designer everything is running fine. I'm also able to publish this report to my BOE, based on RHEL.
If I will refresh my report on InfoView, database credential are required, but my credential are not accepted. I only become a error message: Failed to open the connection
If I use Webi with the same universe and the same connection, everything is fine.
I have also change the ODBC version, but no other result.
Any idea, where I can trace this connection?
    Versions:
    Crystal Reports 2008 (12.0.0.683)
    Business Objects Enterprise 3.0 (12.0.0.683)
    MySQL ODBC 3.51.27 and 5.1.5
    Thanks a lot
    Christoph

    Hi,
thank you very much for reply.
I think you got it. We have the goal to create a report that can be printed and is top-gloss-report for management ; ) One query would not be able to include all that stuff. It is very different.
So we created 7 different queries in SAP BW Query Designer and we want to put them together in BO Crystal Reports.
All Queries work with input variable for period and year. These input variables are used in the columns of the queries for calculating the key figures.
So, if we put these queries together into Crystal Reports, we should actually use "replacement path" for variables. But the sap.help says, that isn't doable.
