Intel log errors in Xorg.0.log

My Xorg.0.log is filled every second or so with the following block and it gradually grows larger and larger (ten thousands of lines):
[ 114.832] (II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
[ 114.832] (II) intel(0): Modeline "1280x800"x0.0 69.32 1280 1292 1356 1416 800 803 806 816 -hsync -vsync (49.0 kHz)
[ 114.867] (II) intel(0): EDID vendor "SEC", prod id 19522
Why is this? Is there some way to stop whatever intel function from doing so? Lately, I have experienced Xorg crashing for unknown reasons, but I don't know if it's related. I have both the intel-dri 7.11-1 package and xf86-video-intel 2.15.0-2 installed.
Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks, but it didn't change the matter. However, I'm getting more serious log errors:

I have googled this "bad drawable" issue but no solutions are out there. AFAIK this is the reason for my Xorg strange behaviour. Any similar experience, or maybe suggestions to share with me, guys/girls? What logs or configs should I post here?

  • [newbie] xorg, intel, I830WaitLpRing() error?

    Folks;
first off, being rather new to archlinux, let me say I am pretty impressed with what I see after getting the system up and running. Been into Linux for quite a bunch of years by now, having dealt with Xubuntu as of recently and am looking for a more straightforward alternative which is, well, "lighter" on resources on my machine. Did I mention I was using Slackware before that?
Anyhow: Installing a current archlinux on my machine worked almost without any troubles, except for one "show-stopper": I am using a notebook featuring an intel 945gm display controller docked and connected to an external TFT, usually making use of xrandr to use a xinerama-like dual-screen experience (notebook-LVDS "right-of" the TFT). Usually I get this configured according to (1), which however made my X server just blow up immediately in arch. Reading through the Xorg.log, I found I am likely to be stumbled across (2) here as well (an issue that already bugged me in other distributions). The final post in the bug list mentions installing a pre-release intel driver right from xorg, and now I wonder what is the best way of doing so following the "arch way". Somehow I hesitate just to pull and install the package off freedesktop.org, are there any binary packages of that driver available right now? Is there a better way of getting this code installed?
    Thanks loads and best regards,
    Kristian

    (2) http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8976

    Folks,
adding to that: I have (kinda) resolved the issue temporarily by throwing in an intel_drv.so taken off a current ubuntu distribution which seems to make things work, at least now I am kind of a happy archlinux user in front of my two screens. However one more thing: I couldn't help noticing that, comparing to other distributions running dual-screen, it seems the X in arch is astoundingly slow in this setup. Any ideas why it could be this way?
    TIA and best regards,
    Kristian

  • [Solved] Problem with xf86-video-intel after upgrade to xorg 1.16

    Hi everyone,
since the upgrade to xorg-server 1.16 i can't get X to work again on my thinkpad R50e with an old intel integrated chip (Intel Extreme Graphics 2).
I first encountered the error "cannot open /dev/tty0": http://okraits.de/upload/xorg/Xorg.0.log
    Then i created /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config: http://okraits.de/upload/xorg/Xwrapper.config
Then i got the error "failed to set mode": http://okraits.de/upload/xorg/Xorg.1.log
My xorg.conf looks like this: http://okraits.de/upload/xorg/xorg.conf
I start X with startx and this .xinitrc: http://okraits.de/upload/xorg/.xinitrc
I have no clue how to fix this. Any help would be much appreciated!
    Greetings,
    Oliver

How do you start X? Note you must start X from the same VT where you login, if you use Xorg.bin (no setuid). From your log there're mentions of /dev/tty0 and "Using VT number 2", so I suppose that might be the problem.
If you simply use `startx`, the actual process running will be something like
    /usr/bin/Xorg.bin -nolisten tcp :0 -auth /tmp/serverauth.XXXXXXXXXX vt1
Note the `vt1` in the line must be specified, where 1 is the value of $XDG_VTNR in the VT where you login.
    Edit
In my log there's something yours are missing
    [ 45.465] (++) using VT number 1
    [ 45.465] (--) controlling tty is VT number 1, auto-enabling KeepTty
I login at tty1 (which is the first one visible after boot) and run startx from there.
I added the following to my .xinitrc:
    echo "vt: $XDG_VTNR"
    The output was:
    vt: 1
That would be ok, right? Or is it $XDG_VTNR + 1?
So i am wondering what is forcing X to use vt 2. Or how i can tell X to use vt 1.

I have made a thread for this in another forum; it hasn't currently come up with a solution though.
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=99482
As for configuration, you ought to be able to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf. The ArchWiki has some updated information regarding Xorg 1.8 in that respect.

  • Error on Intel no error on PPC

I am developing a cocoa core data document program on both a MacBook (intel) and a mac mini (ppc). On the PPC, the project compiles and runs fine, but on the Intel, it compiles fine, but at runtime I get the following error.
2007-05-07 14:54:19.942 myProgram[5361] * -[NSBundle load]: Error loading code /Library/InputManagers/SIMBL/SIMBL.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SIMBL for bundle /Library/InputManagers/SIMBL/SIMBL.bundle, error code 2 (link edit error code 0, error number 0 ())
The error does not prevent it from running. In fact it does not seem to affect the functioning of the program at all. But I would like to know what is causing this error to show up and how to fix it. In case it might be relevant: each of the two projects (PPC and Intel) includes a framework that I wrote (so that my custom view would have a data binding in Interface Builder). The custom view appears to work with both versions.
Any ideas about what could be causing the problem and how to fix it? Thank you in advance.
    I am using Xcode 2.4.1.

You have an outdated version of SIMBL that is not Univeral Binary. If you get the latest version or just remove SIMBL, the error should go away.
Developers should be careful with 3rd party system additions. They can introduce errors or hide them.

  • Intel RAID error in Device Manager after updating Intel Matrix Storage Console

The latest in my catalogue of problems arose after updating Intel Matrix Storage Console (IMSC) ...
Lost my RAID volume, but both drives were OK. However, IMSC seemed to be freezing, so I thought I'd install the latest version from Intel. Once installed, it gave me errors saying a plug in was not found, followed by messages saying that the SATA and RAID drivers were not installed. Device Manager thinks the drivers are OK, but the yellow triangle with the ! is shown against the Intel RAID driver. Tried un-installing and re-installing the controller, updating the drivers, different versions of IMSC and still get the yellow triangle with the !
I have been having trouble with the RAID0 set up for weeks so wonder if it has finally died? I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help?

It'll be confusing when you started multiple threads linking to the issue.

  • Intel driver error

    Morning,
    First sorry for my english.
My laptop is HP ProBook 4730s.
    Yesterday I reinstall my WIN7 (Windows 7 Ultimate x64).
I try to intall the drivers, but when I install the VGA it write an error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements set for software installation".
I try some intel driver, and reisntall the windows, but the problem is still.
How can I solve the problem?
    Thank you for the help.

    Hi:
Your notebook probably has the amd/intel switchable graphics and if that is the case you only need to install the amd graphics driver, which installs the drivers for both the amd and Intel gpu's.
If your notebook has that graphics configuration, you cannot and should not try to install the standalone Intel graphics driver.

  • Intel finds errors in Sandy Bridge chipset

I just saw this announcement that Intel has found design flaws in the new Sandy Bridge chipset and it looks like there will be a recall. I just bought a Satellite A660 with the i7-2630qm which has the Intel 6 series chipset in question. What a disappointment! I guess that's the risk you take when you buy new technology. I hope Toshiba will fix this for those who already have this processor. I was thinking about returning this model anyway and now I really want to get rid of it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the response, Jim, but I'd like to register my disappointment with Toshiba's decision.  I *like* my new Satellite and I'd much prefer to get it fixed.  I'd like to point out that a certain competitor (rhymes with 'bell') is offering a refund, replace, or repair three-option solution.  Toshiba's one size fits all solution, which really only benefits Toshiba and not their customers, looks pretty poor by comparison.  I hope Toshiba reconsiders.

  • Refurbed dc7900 convertible mini tower Intel ME error

There is a thread on this problem that appears to have died without resolution.
    http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Compaq-Elite-Pro/dc7900-CMT-2233-HECI-Error-during-MEBX-ex...
I am hoping another go round might provide answers. I have done all the step listed in the noted thread. However despite numerous attempts, both via DOS and Win7, I have been unable to update the firmware for the ME portion of the BIOS.
Reading that I have done suggested that I could access the ME portion using Crtl-P on boot. Then do something similar to the Flash ROM command in the BIOS. That has only  displayed a message listing the current version. I can't replace the motherboard as it doesn't seem to be manufactured anymore.
I don't know if it is significant, but, this error manifested after a power failure and only comes up at cold boot. Once it appears I can reboot with Crtl-Alt-Del and it boots normally. Once booted, I can reboot as many times as I want and the error doesn't occur. Shut the power off completely and I get the error.
    This question was solved.

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation Error: No suitable hard drives found

    HI!
I was trying to install the free Solaris 8 Intel Edition from CD. All devices were recognized. Afterwards, however, I get the message that no suitable place was found to store the installation image. What should a hard disk look like in order to qualify for Solaris?
My system contains several hard drives. The first one, were I would like to install Solaris, is empty without any partitions. Under normal cicumstances (Linux, Windows), I would assume that this is the best possible case for a new operationg system...
    Best regards
    Klaus

    Klaus,
I am having the exact same problem as you. I have the official Solaris CDs from Sun, but am not able to install Solaris on my PC. Installation progresses quite far - including screen, keyboard, time configuration - but then fails saying that it can't find any suitable HDDs.
I too, have two HDDs, one with Windows XP on it, and the other completely blank. However the Solaris installation does not recognise either of them.
I've even tried dis-connecting the Windows HDD in case it may have interfered somehow, but it has no affect.
Please see me message titled 'Intel Installation - Identifying HDDs' which I posted on this forum on 10th November. I haven't received any help on this issue.
Where do we go from here?

  • Intelli sync error and unable to remove desktop software

Hi, my problems started when I downloaded v.6 desktop software. Once I installed it i couldn't figure it out so i rolled it back and thought I could resume with my previous version of desktop v.5.05, now when i try and sync with my outlook I get a helpful 'unknown error'.
I tried to uninstall the software but got an error message 1316.a, so that doesn't work. I performed the windows install clean-up, but the desktop software is still on my desktop, although when I try and uninstall it from my c drive, it says it's not there!
So really no idea what the problem is. I looked at the clean uninstall steps provided on here, but cannot even do that, as cannot get beyond stage 1! Have been on Twitter with this, but no answer yet.

In the Wiki I read something about fgetty and agetty... I replaces agetty with fgetty in /etc/inittab and I installed fgetty via yaourt  But I still got an fgetty error:
    init: cannot execute "/sbin/fgetty"
    But the /sbin/fgetty is there...
Can someone help me with this problems?
    Thanks!

1: /usr/sbin/crond[469]: (CRON) INFO (Syslog will be used instead of sendmail.): Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
But I do not ever install sendmail ...
That is just telling you that syslog will be used instead of sendmail, because there is no sendmail program to use on the system.
2: kernel: [ 6.146484] sdhci-pci 0000:02:00.1: Invalid iomem size. You may experience problems.
Does your sd card reader work properly? I use to get that error before I noticed it did not work. I fixed it by adding this to modprobe.conf
    options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40
Not really sure on the other two as I try to avoid nouveau use personally and have never seen that intel related error on mine either and have not done fgetty on my systems.
Hope that gets you some place
