Interactive Button conflicts in InDesign CS3

I am trying to create what's considered a disjointed rollover image gallery from InDesign to PDF (Interactive Elements).
The basis of my file is this:
- 1 main image area, with white fill, button named: BLANK_STATIC
- 1 thumbnail button named : THUMBNAIL
- 1 image (underneath BLANK_STATIC) named: IMAGE_1
The button behaviors are applied to THUMBNAIL
- Mouse Enter: Hide BLANK_STATIC, Show IMAGE_1
- Mouse Exit: Hide IMAGE_1, Show BLANK_STATIC
Export to PDF, preserve Interactive elements... works 'perfectly'
Now i tell myself "okay, i'm ready to proceed in making more thumbnails and this should apply to all other elements"
The basis of my file is this:
- 1 main image area, with white fill, button named: BLANK_STATIC
- 1 thumbnail button named : THUMBNAIL
- 1 image (underneath BLANK_STATIC) named: IMAGE_1
- 1 thumbnail buttoned named: THUMBNAIL_2
- 1 image (in between layers BLANK_STATIC and IMAGE_1) named: IMAGE_2
I check all my behaviors to make sure everything is shown and hidden given it's proper state.... that's not my problem
what's happening is, regardless if i have BLANK_STATIC always turned on, and the very top arranged layer (or a forced separate top layer), IMAGE_2 Layer will appear right on top... if i move the IMAGE_2 Layer to the very bottom... when i create the PDF, it STILL forces IMAGE_2 layer to the top..
the actual functionality will take place once i start to roll over the items, items will hide/reveal themselves given the proper instances, however on initial load of the file, i'm having a layering conflict/issue.
Can someone help?

I've sent a sample file to Dominic that does what he wants.
Here's the explanation I sent with the file:
First, I changed the yellow button back to a normal frame and put it on a layer on the background. It doesn't have to be a button and doesn't have to overlay anything.
Next, I set the two larger fields (which I call Targets) to be Hidden in their Button options. They won't be hidden in the ID file, but they won't be visible on first glance in the PDF.
Next, I set the Act button (which I call a Trigger) to SHOW the corresponding button on Mouse Enter and to HIDE the same button on Mouse Exit.
The Act Trigger doesn't have to show or hide the other field since it has been set for Hidden when the PDF opens.
I then did the other Trigger button to show/hide it's larger target.
That's it!
This creates the effect you want.

  • Button issue in InDesign CS4

I need to add text using interactive -->  button option in InDesign CS4. This particular text has to appear when I  mouse the text in PDF after generating from InDesign CS4. I don't want  to add those text in PDF itself.
Indesign CS3 has  button options to add text but InDesign CS4 does have that option to add  text. Please guide me how to add text using Button in ID CS4.
What  I did was: I have created a button and add text using button option and  save it. When exporting PDF from ID CS3, I have enabled the option  Interactive elements. After generating PDF from ID CS3 I have mouse over  the text, whatever text I was inserted in button it appeared in PDF  well.
But this option is not available in InDesign CS4. I hope you understand it clear now.
I  have taken the screenshot below from InDesign CS3 and attached the same  for your reference. This option does have in InDesign CS4. Please help  me out in this regard.

I've answered this in the other thread where you asked the question.

  • Problem with Indesign interactive button

Hi Everyone! (Work on Tiger/CS3/Acrobat 8.0)

  • Frame 7.2 and InDesign CS3 Distiller conflict

I am using Frame 7.2b128, Distiller 7.0. I recently installed InDesign CS3, which uses Distiller 8.0.
Whenever I work in InDesign and create a final PDF, and then go back to working in Frame and generate a PDF by using Save As ..PDF (working in a book with all files open), I get "Internal Error 7204..."
In the past, the only way I could recover was to uninstall and reinstall Frame. Today even that won't work.
    1. How can I generate a PDF in Frame? I get the same error when I use Print to file...
    2. How can I configure my system to use either Distiller 7.0 or Distiller 8.0 all the time, and which should it be? Will this fix the problem?

Indesign's interaction with Distiller is no different from Frame's: From
either application you can print to the Adobe PDF printer instance. From
there, Acrobat takes over and the originating application (Frame or
Indesign) no longer plays a part in the PDF creation process.
Do you run into the same problem when you Export to PDF from Indesign?
Indesign's Export to PDF does not involve Distiller in any way.
Have you tried redirecting the Adobe PDF printer's output to File,
instead of to the Adobe PDF port (in the Ports tab of the Adobe PDF
printer instance)? This shouldn't change anything for you, except to
separate the two processes (printing and distilling). My guess is that
the error you're seeing is a problem with Distiller, not with Frame. But
if you're printing to the Adobe PDF port it's kind of hard to figure out
where things are going wrong. If you change the port to File, you can
print to a PS file from Frame, close Frame, and then distill the PS
file. Obviously any error you see at that point is not from Frame.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat 7?
I wouldn't bother buying Acrobat 8 just to fix this problem, although
uninstalling Acrobat 7 and reinstalling some version of Acrobat might
fix it. Plenty of people are running IDCS3, Frame 7.2, and Acrobat 7
without these problems (me being one of them).

  • Interactive buttons in InDesign - for an iPad

    Hello!
For a University project, I have an assignment of pairing up with someone and creating a childrens e-book. Thing is, we've not had that long on it due to other deadlines, and the deadline for this project is this coming Friday (22nd).
We've created the layout of the e-book but the thing is, the buttons work on the Preview window box in InDesign, but it doesn't when using the Adobe Content Viewer app on an iPad - the assignment is creating the document for an iPad.
It's apparently because the buttons use Flash, and iPads dont support that.
We got given some artwork, and want to create a button/interactivity where the reader (a 3-6 year old?) needs to find a certain animal on the page, and then once they do, they need to tap it, in order for a fact to appear about it.
    E.g...
This is one of the pages/screens. It tells the reader to find the seagull. Easy, I know, but when pressing onto the seagull, we want it to come up with the fact. The red box around the seagull is a button, and the box towards the top right of the seagull is the fact box which is activated after selecting the seagull.
It works fine in the InDesign preview tab... This was after clicking on the seagull, which resulted in the box appearing...
I've watched a video on the Adobe website about some converter from FLASH to HTML5 programme called Wallaby Technology Preview, but it didn't work with that. The person had a moving animation though I suppose, and not buttons.
Something like a pop-up message would work in iBook Author but it needs to be created using InDesign. (This version i'm using is 5.5)
    Many Thanks!

The popup panel (text description) would be your multiple state object. It can be an ordinary element, it does not need to be turned into an interactive object. Select the popup frame, and in the Object State panel flyout, select "New State". This will create an Object (you can name this) with two states. Select State 1 and colorize the frame and text to none (for the invisible state). Leave State 2 as is (for the visible state). Make the seagull art an interactive button. Then select your event: "On Click" and Action "Go to State" and Object "Popup Panel" and State "State 2"

  • Left Arrow Interactive Buttons in InDesign CS5.5 Backwards type

Does anyone have a solution to the backwards type that appears in all left or previous page arrows in the InDesign Interactive Button Section?
Is this a glitch in the software. It seems the left buttons were created by flopping the right arrows...thus the backwards type. I try to flop the type...but the whole button flips.
    Any work-arounds to this?
    Thanks.

Are you talking about buttons from Sample Buttons library panel? You probably have tried to insert some text to graphic frame that creates the button´s appearance? I don´t know if that´s a good idea....
How about converting button to object, adding text, groupping object+text and converting group to button again... and re-creating the action?
Or another possible way would be write the text to it´s own separate frame outside of the button, put it to correct place onto the button and then drag it into the button´s Normal/RollOver states with Layers panel or use Cut/Paste Into commands.

  • Interactive buttons not working on interactive pdf when the Indesign links are set correctly

    Hi all,
I have one Indesign CS6 manual containing 17 files, 126 pages. This has been set to a book file.
This has been translated into 14 languages and now we are having problems creating the interactive pdfs.
After fixing the broken interactive buttons within the Indd files, we are finding that when we create the interactive pdfs, not all interactive button links work. When we recreate the same langauge interactive pdf we are finding that the buttons that were not working the 1st time, are now working, and some buttons that were working, are now not working.
    Is there a bug somewhere.
Any idea why the interactive buttons work one minute and then not the next, and vice versa.
Any idea how we can fix.
I’m using Indesign CS6 and Acrobat 9 Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi LoriAUC,
Thanks for this. Very much appreciated.
I have asked sagar-khanna from the other discussion is he knows more about the broken links etc.
    Thanks again.

  • Indesign CS6 - Interactive Buttons - Destination links changing when opened on another computer

    Hi,
I have encountered a bit of a problem with Indesign CS6.
I have a customer who has created an multi-chapter Indesign file which has interactive buttons within the each chapter in the book. These buttons are linking to each chapter. E.G., Buttons on the first page in chapter one, might link to the first page of Chapter three. This has been done by setting a destination, to the file and specifying the page number within the Interactive elements dialogue box. The client has created an interactive PDF out of this.
When I have opened the file on my side, all of the interactive destination elements have reverted to Page 1 of Chapter 1 in every single chapter (this is the first file in the book). Obviously, this means me relinking all of the locations again (there are over 2000 in the file that would need to be fixed).
Now, I am opening the file on a Windows PC in Windows 7 using CS6. However, the client has created the files on a Mac. Which could potentially be an issue maybe (I am testing this).
However, has anyone experienced this before, and is there a workaround?
    James

  • InDesign 6 Interactive Buttons Not Displaying Correctly in Acrobat X

Forgive me if this has been asked. When I create interactive buttons in InDesign 6, their display is erratic in Acrobat X. Sometimes they display correctly. Sometimes, their display is erratic and sometimes they do not display at all. I have noticed that in Acrobat X, the cursor changes to the hand over the correct area, but nothing happens when I click. Oddly enough, the buttons always display correctly in Reader. This is fine for my users but makes my job in doing the final prep very difficult.

I’ve seen this reported in this past. It’s not an InDesign issue or the files wouldn’t work in Reader.
If you get any answers in the Acrobat forum, please come back and share them.

  • InDesign / Acrobat Mystery - interactive buttons misinterpreted as form fields by Acrobat

    hi everybody
I am quickly approaching a deadline and have only few hair left... i stumbled upon a bug or whatever in InDesign... After countless hours of pinpointing the root of the error i am able to reconstruct the error scenerio in few steps that go like this:
1 - create a blank ID document with 37 pages
2 - go to Master Page A in that document
3 - create 3 interactive buttons with the button tool anywhere on the Master Page A, leave the buttons blank
4 - export all pages to PDF with all interactive options ON
    NOW !
what i get when i open this PDF in Acrobat is an annoying pink bar across the width of the page saying this:
Please fill out the following form. If you are a form author, choose Distribute Form in the Forms menu to send it to your recipients.
NOW WHERE THE HACK IS THAT COMING FROM AND HOW TO TURN IT OFF !!!
TO MAKE YOUR HEAD TWIST !
try exporting the same ID document but only pages 1-20 and the annoying pink stripe does not appear in this case... crazy - no changes to the document...
please help ASAP i wasted two days figuring this out...
since this is a king of ID/ACRO combined problem appearing on PC or MAC i post it on all related forums... sorry i see no other options...

    -------------------- PROBLEM SOLVED -------------------------
ok so to make it quick the whole ill behaviour seems to be a bug appearing only in combination of InDesign 5.0.x and Acrobat 8.0.0 for Macintosh, the problem could be solved using Acrobat 8.1.2
since most of the bug fixes in Acrobat 8.1 and 8.1.2 updates are according to Adobe "bug fixes of Form-Related Issues" this makes total sense...
    -------------------- QUICKEST SOLUTION ------------------------
1 - upgraded to Acrobat 8.1.2 for Macintosh
2 - exported the PDF -WITHOUT- any buttons
3 - opened the PDF in Acrobat 8.1.2 and created the buttons manually inside Acrobat 8.1.2
ANYBODY WITH ACROBAT 8.0.0 FOR MACINTOSH WILL STILL SEE THE PINK BAR !!!
EVERYBODY ELSE (READER 9.0, ACROBAT 8.1.2) WONT SEE THE PINK BAR OR ICON ANYMORE!!!
GOOD BYE EVRYBODY AND THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ME SOLVE THE PROBLEM...

  • Photoshop CS5 - InDesign CS3 conflict?

I want to upgrade Photoshop CS4 to CS5, but am concerned by a report on the Luminous Landscape Forum where a member claims that installing PS CS5 made his InDesign CS3 unusable. He says, " The Photoshop CS5 changes some core type files in the Common Files >  Adobe diectories, which totally prevent Indesign from even starting."
The LL forum discussion is at http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43396
Has anyone else seen similar reports or had this experience?  I am working on a project now where I'm required to use InDesign CS3 (and not a later version), so can't take a chance that the new Photoshop will screw things up with ID3.

Not that Mac users need any more reasons to think they have a better OS, but apparently the problem is with some Windows configurations. : )
I asked the same question on the InDesign forum and an expert there was able to both replicate the problem and offer a probable solution.

You didn't mention your OS. I just installed the trial on my XP test station and did in fact get an AMT Subsystem Failure -- You Must Reinstall warning, and ID CS3 closed.
I downloaded and ran the Flexnet patch from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=3750&fileID=3528 and all is well.
I don't know what all this patch does, since ostensibly it is a reapir for Acrobat 8 running on Vista, but if memeory serves it's been reliable for fixing that particular error on all versions of Windows with any version of Acrobat.

  • PDF with comments crashing, using InDesign CS3

I'm using OS10.6 and switching back and forth between Acrobat Pro 9.3.4 and InDesign CS3 5.0.4.  I have Firefox running too, as well as Bridge and Word.
The PDF was originally made by me.  I email it to my client and she adds comments using her Windows PC - I don't know any more details.  She then Saves As and emails back to me.
I then open the PDF with comments and start to work through them, making amendments in InDesign, and then marking the comment with a checkmark.  The PDF seems to randomly crash - sometimes it will work fine for a while, sometimes it just won't and crashes each time I open it.  As a result of this random crashing, I'm saving after every comment I process to keep track of what comments I've done.  (EDIT) Sometimes after the crash none of the comments are checked, despite me checking them and saving the file.  V frustrating and time consuming.
    Any ideas??  Thanks.

There is a feature in interactive PDF called Show/Hide fields which may or may not give you what you want. You can create a button of an image or other object which will make another object (button) appear. Do a Google search on "Show Hide Field InDesign Tutorial"

    Hi Harbs:
Could you please help me out with a script to perform that task?
I'm current using JS on CS2.
I need to add a hyperlink to several text boxes that are anchored in text.
