In some examples on the web of CS4's new export to swf feature, I saw not only page transitions but actual elements on each page moving into place as the page was turned. I have not been able to find any information about how to do this (or even find those examples again). Is this actually possible, or were those examples mislabelled?

You are right, the page transition will affect the entire page and not an individual object, AFAIK. But what you have described could possibly be done with the individual photo transition as a placed swf, quicktime or mpeg file. But I would be curious to see if the end product was indeed produced by exporting from ID or was there an intermediate step from Flash or Acrobat to manipulate end product.

Pullout sidebar help! When hidden the scrollable frame blocks interactive content beneath it.

Ok, I feel like this is one of those things that has a really easy answer and I'm just missing it but I have been kicking it around for a few weeks and can't come up with anything.
Really basic problem: I have a pull out sidebar for my app as a scrollable frame and it works fine. It is the top layer of course because it has to always be available from any part of the app.
The issue, as I said in the title, is that even when the sidebar is hidden and you can only see the pullout tab, the entire scrollable frame is still invisibly blocking all interactive content beneath it. So for example any buttons on that side of the app arent clickable, no video controlls, etc etc. Anytime you click on that side of the app it thinks you are trying to manipulate the scroll frame.
I don't know what to do!

Redesign the page. That's simply how it works. The entire space of the frame is always live.
Try dragging in the middle where there's no content and you'll see that the content still scrolls.

Sharing interactive content without using DPS

Hi, I would like to share content I've produced in InDD CS5.5 including interactive content (Pan & Zoom, slideshow etc.) with colleagues within my company.
Do I need to go through the full DPS procedure or is there a simpler way? If I do need to go the DPS route, how do I ensure my content remains confidential and viewable within my company only?

If you already registered as iOS developer, follow these instruction to add UDID of your devices and activate it as registered devices.
Login to iOS Dev Center http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action
Click iOS Provisioning Portal on the right menu.
Click Devices on the left menu and you will see Current Registered Devices.
Click Add Devices button on the right side.
There are two fields called “Device Name” and “Device ID“.Fill the device name to recognize where the UDID belong to, and fill the Device ID with UDID you have copied from iTunes (by clicking serial number on device summary).
Click the “+” button to add the UDID and another form will show up to registered anotherdevice. If you don’t need to add another device, click Submit button on the bottom to save changes.
You are done.

Converting Flash to Video Including Interactive Content/Games

Hi All,
I've recently been tasked with converting creative Flash content to video so that it can be viewed on iPads. For standard looping ads this is fairly straightforward and even expanding rich media ads can be set up to auto expand with a little code modification which works quite well. I've been using an online file converter which works almost flawlessly, even with heavy code generated graphics and animation and it converts to MP4, Ogg Video and WebM which are the standar HTML 5 video formats. Now I've been asked to do the same with a Flash game I wrote, but now just tweaking the code slightly is not going to be adequate as the game requires constant user interaction to play effectively, so I'm looking at using some sort of framegrabber software to capture the flash screen as the game is played.
Can anyone recommend a good free framegrabber software for Mac OSX?
Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks.

Maybe you can try this Mac swf to video converter. However, it's not free, it will cost you 100 bucks.

Export Interactive Content in HTML

Hi! I've created an image sequence overlay using DPS and all works fine at all levels; I can view on an ipad using Adobe Content Viewer, etc. Is there a way to export this as html and maintain the interactivity? I've tried multiple times, unsucessfully to simply export my InDesign 5.5 document as html, but it only yields a static image in a browser. Otherwise, I have not found a way to export html via Folio Builder or Folio Producer. Is this possible?

That's too bad, even though I recognize that DPS tools are for creating digital magazine publications, thus html is not really a requirement. I'm seeking another workflow to do this. Any suggestions? I wish to embrace html 5 and avoid using flash.

Interaction Content Fonts Not Working

In Captivate 6 Interactions, why does the content font not change to the selected size or font?

Not sure if I am confusing the issue but, I am assuming you are on a mac, have you tried the font book preference?...see below.
Disable or enable fonts
Disabled fonts remain on your Mac, but aren’t listed in apps, the Fonts menu, or the Fonts window.
Open Font Book
In Font Book, select one or more collections, font families, or styles.You can’t disable system fonts; these fonts have a lock icon next to the font name at the bottom of the Font Book window.
Deselect or select the checkbox below the list of fonts. To disable or enable a collection, choose the command from the Edit menu.Disabled fonts appear in gray and are labeled “Off.”
By default, Font Book locates and enables fonts on your Mac, even if you haven’t installed the fonts using Font Book. To turn this feature off, choose Font Book > Preferences, then deselect “Automatic font activation.”

White screen displays sporadically during interactive content and not for all users

We have an unusual thing happening with some users (5% or less) experiencing a white screen/program lockup when interacting with the training. We think this is related to missing java script file(s), but we aren't 100% sure.
Training is occurring on a variety of different laptops and workstations across the country. All are suppose to be using the latest version of IE (and java). There is no commonality between hardware, users or where in the program the issue occurs.
Some people experience it in module 5 when they have to type data, and others may experience it in module 2 where they just have to click the continue button ( any module for any action - it truly is that random). What's more we can't reproduce the problem on machines that have the latest java files. We have looked over the physical layout of each slide but can find no commands or objects that would cause the problem.
Has anyone experienced this type of sporadic issue? Does anyone have a suggestion for how to fix it? -

Burning a DVD with interactive content

I know parts of my question have been answered in previous posts, but there are parts I can't find the answer to. So here goes...
I'm creating a traditional DVD. I want to add content that is accessible from a PC/Mac. The interface will be HTML so there's no problem with that on either platform.
I'm not sure how to do this in DVD SP. I understand I can add this content in my resource folder within the project, but DVD SP doesn't know what to do with it, does it? What steps do I take to get DVD SP to burn a DVD that will play the video content in any set top DVD player, and launch the auto-run for the HTML content when placed in a PC or Mac?

if the DVD disc with autorun files is inserted in a hardware player, or a computer it will stall, it will not play.
This is the reason procedures from DVD@Access and Intellidisc were concieved.
DVD@Access on the PC has been found to be very unreliable, but when playing back on a Mac works out well.
Intellidisc is very reliable for PC playback, and used with DVD@Acess for the Mac is a sturdy combination to cover both platforms.

How do you scroll multiple buttons/interactive content???

Is there anyway to create links, or buttons withing multi-state objects using indesign, pluggins or 3rd party software? I have tried placing invisible buttons over the area in which I would like something interactive, but its annoying if you click that are by mistake, and just seems sloppy. I’m pretty certain that Indesign does not support multi-state objects that have ineractivity within them, but am wondering if there are ways round this. I have seen a few iPad apps that have achieved what I’m after and am certain most of it has been done using indesign.
Also, If the iPad edition is created using Indesign, can it be exported to another piece of software to add more interactive elements or is it all done via Indesign?

This is an InDesign workflow. I have no idea what you’d want to do outside InDesign.

Can't play video or use interactive content in Acrobat Reader

I'm using a Windows 8 pc which has flash player installed. I am trying to click on a video and some buttons embedded in a .pdf, but nothing happens at all. Does anyone have an idea? I just downloaded this program, and so far it doesn't do what I need it to. Acrobat Reader itself says that I need a full flash player version. My computer search bar itself won't allow me to find the program. Where do I go to get the so-called 'full version'? This is kind of frustrating. I can play video outside of Acrobat Reader, so I know that I have Flash as far as web video etc., but so far it's not enabling me to do anything with video that is embedded in my pdf. Do I have to pay for the other option of viewing media?

This started happening all of a sudden on certain websites. I have school training I need to finish and I cannot load the modules anymore.... my laptop is brand new as of December 2010! I have the newest version of Firefox, the newest Adobe Flash, and the latest update for Java.

The message about CVE-2009-3555 is meant for webmasters to make them aware that they need to fix their servers.<br />
Firefox 3.6 versions can detect such a misconfiguration and displays a warning in the "Tools > Error Console".<br />

How to create links above interactive content?

I want to have a movie or a slide show, with a texthyperlink above it while the movie running, have tried with combinations of superoverlays, as a button and as a hyperlink.
Is there a workaround or have i missed something?

Several websites (Chase Bank, Amazon, various movie sites) have interactive content that doesn't work since updating to version 6.0. These websites work in IE or Opera, however.

When accessing "My Kindle Page" the list of titles doesn't load (the uploader just spins endlessly). The Chase Bank page said that its certification has been revoked and wouldn't upload at all. On various movie sites, the uploader spins endlessly as well. These sites worked on previous editions of FireFox and work on other browsers (IE, Opera) currently. Is this my computer or an issue with version 6.0?

PDF interactivity : page control issue (pdf file considered as a form)

Hello there,
I've got a slight but quite annoying issue when exporting a PDF from my InDesign CS3 file. Let me explain.
The file is some sort of glossary with interactive content (such as a table of content, images with over effects and text with tooltips) and two buttons on the master page which allow the user to browse the document forward or backwards (basic next/previous page controls). Those two buttons work as expected, but their presence causes something strange when exporting the document.
What happens is that the exported PDF document is considered as a form when those buttons are present.
I'd like to keep those controls, but without having Acrobat Reader reminding me that I'm browsing through a form that I won't be able to save (bla bla bla). Which means that I just would like the file to behave as a standard document instead of a form document.
If any of you ever experienced that issue, I'd like to know how you solved it.

Thanks for the answer, but I found out the cause of the issue.
What happens is quite weird.
Using inDesign, once your file exceeds 100 buttons it exports itself as a PDF form instead of a standard PDF document. No straight solution seems to exist, but I found a way to bypass this problem.
Instead of creating my controls in the master page, I created them (only once) in the first page they appear in. Then, in Acrobat Pro, I just selected them and used the "duplicate" command.
There are two benefits when using this solution:
your PDF document won't turn into a form (which can be a real problem if you don't want to confuse the document users)
your PDF file will be lighter. Indeed, when creating a button in inDesign (even if you create it on the master page) the exported PDF document won't contain X occurences of the same button, but X different buttons (which can incread the size of your document dramaticaly when it reaches a large amount of pages).
It took me hours to find out a solution to this problem, I hope it will help someone else than me.
