Hi all,
I've had a search through this forum and can't quite find the answers I'm looking for...
I'm trying to make an interactive quiz. The brief is as follows:
- 10 multiple choice questions (randomly selected from a bank of 40).
- A score counter for two 'teams' i.e., a script which will keep track of two separate scores. And at the end of the 10 questions a script which will announce the 'winning' team and the 'losing' team along with their respective scores.
- A timer or time limit for the questions.
If anyone could tell me whether all of this even is possible in DVD Studio Pro (with lots photoshop images as menus) I'd be really grateful. And if anyone could point me in the direction of some relevant tutorials that'd be fantastic. I think I may have found a good tutorial for the timer, but not for the random selection or scoring (for two teams or one).

I'm certain its possible but wouldn't be able to give you direct answers on the scripting in a single post.
For the random part its a matter of writing a random number to a GPRM using the "ran" function. You could also create a non-repeating random function as well - Response time may be slow if the same number comes up several times.
Each team would be given its own GPRM while correct answers for each team would be written to another two GPRMs. At the end of the quiz you could determine which team's register has the higher score using the ">" or "<" functions in a script. This same script will also determine each score and route you to the correct menu.
The time out feature is a simple matter of using the Timeout feature located in the Menu's Inspector.
Like you said, it would take some time(actually a lot of time!)and planning to complete. There isn't any exact scripting available for what you want to accomplish but Hal's site is very good and I know he could easily do something like this for as well...he's even outside London

Hi there,
We cannot have interactivity in a video. So, published output in .mp4 will not have interactivity.
We can only upload video formats to youtube, so we cannot have ineractive objects or quiz on Youtube.
To enable interactivity you will have to publish .swf, .pdf or .html, but again we cannot upload these formats on youtube.

Can interactive quiz questions be published to You Tube

I am a new content developer, and am trying to publish an elearning program to YouTube. This particular program has an interactive quiz at the end. Is there any way that a video on YouTube can maintain the interactive qualities of an elearning program? My gut tells me no, but I thought I'd check here first before going back to the client.

On Videos there is no interactivity, if you check Vidoes on Youtube, you won't find any interactivity.

How do I add a pre-existing flash, interactive quiz to presenter 9.0

currently, we are reviewing Presenter 9.0 as it appears to be the only option to move existing flash CBTS into SCORM for loading into our LMS. The content is not the issue. The "quizzes", for each lesson, are pre-created flash interactive videos(files, whatever...).
I want to incorporate the quiz into the existing Presenter 9.0 imported SWF content before I package everything in Scorm 1.2 I am hoping that I do not have to hop into yet 1,2,3 or more other applications to solve what would be a very easy problem, albeit flash being involved.
Steps....
1) Start Powerpoint.. Import SWF content (existing, interactive) using Presenter plugins..
2) add a SWF quiz that relates to Step 1 content
3) pre-set for SCORM 1.2
4) Package SCORM Content..

My biggest concern here would be the effectiveness of the Flash Quiz content you are embedding in the presentation. Presenter has its own reporting that will take precedence over an embedded SWF file. For example, if you created a Captivate project with reporting, and then embedded it into a Presenter presentation, the only report you would see would be that the viewer(s) viewed the slide with the Captivate SWF in it. None of the Captivate reporting would be recorded.
For this reason, I suspect that Presenter won't report your quiz content as expected, but hey, you can get a 30-day free trial of Presenter 9, so it is easy to test and validate. Presenter could prove me wrong (it has happened before)!

If I use the "Place" command from the file menu, I can place the swf file on my webpage. However, when I go to the page, the quiz stops loading at 90%. How can I put this file on my website so that students can take the quiz(zes)?
I can send a copy of the swf file if that is necessary to show me how to place it on my website. Thanks in advance for any help, as I've already spent hours trying to find a solution to this problem.

Keynote and multiple choice quizes

Does anyone know of a way to create a multiple-choice quiz with Keynote?
What I mean is, can you create links from a question page (with video and text) with 4 options and then create pages responding to the users' choice...correct or incorrect... then move onto the next question page etc...?
Is there a way to use the Hyperlinks function in Keynote for this purpose?
I plan to export to iDVD and have an interactive quiz DVD...
I remember doing something similar a while back with Powerpoint.
I like to push the boundaries and see what can be squeezed out of a piece of software...

What do you mean by "I'm just saving them on my computer". Do you open the PDF with some application (which one?) and then do a save from that application?

Need DVD with movie and interative quiz...how?

I'm getting frustrated. I already have iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut Express. I already made educational dvds and it worked beautifually. However, now I want to create a interactive quiz at the end of the movie and can play in stand alone DVD player with the movie. I want to create several mulitple choice questions with the movie and if they pick the correct one, it will go to the next question, if picked the wrong question, it will go back and replay to help them review and study. Is there a way can do it with my current program or do I need another program that is currently available somewhere? I tried to google "interactive quiz in DVD" and not seem to get a clear cut answer. thank you for anyone who is able to assist me.

You might be able to do a real simple version of this in iDVD, but everytime you attempted to loop back to a previously seen video, you would need a new instance of that video on the DVD. Clearly not optimal and limits what you can do.
Apple used to make a product called DVD Studio Pro. It came bundled with Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro Version 7). It would do this. Apple no longer sells this product but you might be able to find some copies of Final Cut Studio on Amazon or eBay. Adobe Encore CS5 is a currently supported professional DVD authoring software. I have no personal experience with it so I do not know if it will do what you need.

Creating an interactive cd or dvd...

I've haven't found too much info about creating an interactive cd or dvd. I see that the new version of DVDSP touts features for doing such, but how good of a solution is it? If I were to make an inteactive DVD, say a quiz, would it play slowly on a consumer dvd player? Do these games/quizzes only work well on a computer? I've seen recommendations for Adobe products ; ie. Director. I would like to develop an interactive quiz. The idea is to have it play both on dvd players, as well as on computers. Is this feasible, or do I need two different solutions? Any suggestions of what software and solutions would be greatly appreciated.

You have less flexibility using DVDSP, but whatever you do that works will work for a TV or for a computer, because the computer would just play it as a DVD-Video. There are some cases where the computer experience won't be as good, so I would expect everyone to prefer to use it on a TV.
Director is used for web based applications and games, and for downloadable applications and games, and for CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. It also happens to be able to play DVD-Video content inside an interactive environment, with none of the limitations that DVD-Video normally has. But if you're going to be that interactive you probably should use QuickTime video or Flash video inside the Director application, and not require the user to have DVD-Video play back abiliy at all.
If you made such a highly interactive disc you probably wouldn't be able to reproduce all the features in a DVD-Video only version.

How do i create a non-scored multiple answer question?

I've tried to figure out the best way to do this in Captivate 7, but can't find an answer. I hope you can help me out as I'm stuck
I need to create a question with 10 possible answers. They are opinions only---not correct or incorrect.
Kind of like:
"You are going shopping. What do you want to buy?"
1. apples
2. bread
3. milk
4. muffins
5. flour
6. juice
7. pasta
8. dishwashing soap"
etc.
The learner should be able to select none, some, or all and then click submit and advance to next slide, with no feedback given. I do not need to track anything for the LMS.
What should I use to do it? Interaction, Quiz, Survey, or Widget?
I am pretty weak with variables, so hopefully your solution will be simple

Strange... You could have a MCQ that is a survey instead of a graded question (no score automatically) with multiple answers. Delete all the feedback messages and keep the buttons you want, only Submit is really necessary, you decide for the other buttons. But then the user will have to check at least one option. Maybe you can add the option 'I don't know' or 'I cannot choose'? That will be an easy solution.

Disabling Keynote Transport Controls

When importing a keynote presentation you can choose to show or hide the transport controls (swiping to change slides). However, I am looking to actually disable them. Anyone have a solution for this?
If I recall from the Apple Keynote,Life on Earth's Interactive Mapping Landscapes (page 36) was created in Keynote. Swiping is disabled on this Interactive. So, how'd they do that?

I had the same problem. My Keynote presentation included hyperlinks for navigation between slides, but the transport controls were still active as an iBook. This disrupted the purpose as an interactive quiz.
My solution:
1. Configure the Keynote presentation to only use Hyperlinks (Configuration> Presentation Type> Only Hyperlinks).
2. Drag the Keynote into iBooks Author. Note that you need to save the Keynote after changing the presentation type.
3. Be sure todisable the transport controls in the iBA Widget information.
That should solve your issue too!

Captivate Not Showing Results

I have created an interactive quiz using click boxes. I made
sure that the click boxes were included with the quiz. I asked that
the results be shown at the end of the quiz. I published the quiz,
but no results were shown at the end. Please advise as to how to

Declaring a variable in a function: either the function or the eventListener I'm using doesn't work

Can anyone help me with this?
I have a set of Cue Points in an FLV I'm playing. It's an interactive quiz, so the idea is that flash will change a variable, theAnswer, to a different letter depending on which question it is. The answer to question 1 is B, question 2 is D, etc.
Either the cue point event listener isn't working, or else it is working and Flash isn't declaring the variables. Can someone help?
The error message I get is:
1120: Access of undefined property theAnswer.
I literally can't find a single problem with my code. I have an almost identical Event Listener further down which works.

Probably not the answer to your question, but it could help anyways....
First there is another command that, to me at least, is much easier to read that a bunch of nested if/if elses. And that is the switch.

To me that is easier to maintain and read. But I don't think that is really what you need here. So just file that one away for the future.
In this case, what I think you need is an array.

Then your cuepoint handler function becomes something like this:

And I'm a little confused by your mouse click handler. It would seem to suggest that the answer is always "C"? But I"m guessing that it is supposed to compare what the user clicked on to what the cuePoint has told it is the correct answer? Well if that is the case then it would probably look something like:

With the way you are currently doing this I'm guessing that you have a bunch of repeated functions for each time there is a mouse click and that your code is a lot more complicated that it needs to be. And that somewhere hiding in all those lines there is an error that would be simple to fix if you could see it.
What the error is telling you is that somewhere your are trying to assign or retrieve theAnswer and it hasn't been defined yet.

Importing fla

is it possible to import a flash 8 fla or a swf that has
voiceover and multiple scenes with actionscripting into captivate
so that the player controls controlled the flash movie? then create
an interactive quiz when the flash movie is over? does anyone have

Does anyone have another solution for ... "what"?
No, there is no way that Captivate playback controls can be
used to control an inserted SWF. You would have to build those
controls into the SWF in question.
Can you insert an outside animation into Captivate and use
Captivate's "Question slides" to quiz the user about the content of
those inserted animations? Yes, definitely.
I'm shooting in the dark because you have posed some very
hazy scenarios, and seem to be referring to a solution that you
have provided (reference ... "another solution") but I really have
no idea what your problem is ... or what solution you are trying to
replace with another.

Close Window when done?

I am making little interactive quiz files in captivate. They
will be called via a link in an online training course. I want to
figure out a good way to transition from the text (html) page with
the course content to taking the .swf quiz, and then back to the
web page. In the past I have just had a link on the page that opens
a new window.
1. If I have a link open a new window with the .swf in it,
how do I get it to automatically close when the quiz is done?
2. How do I get it to open a window that is the exact size of
the .swf file?
3. Is there a way to embed it in the web page in such a way
that it is very small until someone clicks on a play button and at
that point it scales to full size?

Does it work if you put any other JS in there? What if you
put in a
custom function (whether it actually exists or not) - like
Finish();
