Simple Interactive exam engine using Java

Hi all,
I am trying to develop a new interactive quiz engine using Java. I am new to the java programming. Is there any place where I can download the source code to refer? Any help would be greatly appreciated

SWT? or completely different platform? Database based or not? Or is this a class assignment? Have you searched the forum? google?

  • How to interact with google search engine using java HTTP POST

    I am trying to develop an desktop app that acts as an online radio tuner. I want to use google as an index site for actually searching for radio stations online. So I was wandering if it is possible for me to use java to actually interface with the google search engine servers. For example, I have built a gui that allows you to enter search text. This gui will connect to the web. I would like it to connect to the Google site and post the query to the google web servers. Then i would like to began to parse the response( html page) that i get back from the google servers. Like using google without actually typing in the text field on the google site. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do this with java. If so, what would be the best way to go about doing this. Thanks.

    Thanks for the response. It was actually alot easier to do than I anticipated. All I had to do was create a URL object initialized with the google url(search text embedded in the url - http://www.google.com/search?q=" + searchText + "&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8).
    Looks like this:
    String google = http://www.google.com/search?q=" + searchText + "&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8;
    URL url = new URL(google);  // creating Google Url object
    URLConnection connection = url.openConnection();
           connection.setDoOutput(true);
           connection.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)" );  // fooling google servers into thinking the request is coming from a real browser
           BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream()));The content returned by the google server can be accessed calling the BufferedReader class methods.

  • Error when invoking Rule Engine using Java API

    Hi,
    I have implemented a Java class which calls the Rule Engine to execute the rules. If I test by setting the value of the input inside a main method and get the output, it is working fine. The ruleset is also invoked and there is no problem. However, when I expose this java class as a web service and invoke the web service, I get the below error. I dont get the error if the .rules file is not present in the loaction mentioned. I get the error when the .rules file is present in the location. Not sure if this is an issue with the java call outs or loading the dictionary.

    Could you detail how this was resolved?
    Thanks,

  • When is too simple, reasoning not to use Java?

    I wish to write a small program which gives the user 6 or 7 options. When the associated radio button is selected, a different executable file will be executed.
    Is this overkill to script this with Java? Should I be simply writing a batch file for this operation?
    Advice please.

    Is this overkill to script this with Java? Should I
    be simply writing a batch file for this operation?Depends on which you know best, which technology will let you get it done fastest, and who's going to maintain it after you're done with it. AND which would be the most short-term fun.
    If "batch" means Windows scripting language, I'd say that's a poor choice.
    Who really cares? A small app like that won't be hurt much by using a solution that's less than optimal.

  • Socket example using Java 5

    Last year I posted 4 programs that provided a simple client server using both stream sockets and NIO. I decided as an exercise in using Java 5 to port that code and try to use as many of the new features as possible. The following code is very long and does what all the previous example programs did. In replies do not repost the whole of this message.
    It provides a simple chat like client and server. The user can request either a stream connection or a NIO connection or provide one of their own.

  • Accessing seured website using java URL/Socket programming

    Hi,
    I am working on an intranet search engine using java URL and Authenticator class. This is a secured web-site using SSL in http server. I am not able to access the password protected pages. Following is the code:
    URL url = new URL("https://*************");
    URLConnection connection = url.openConnection();
    PasswordAuthentication pa = Authenticator.requestPasswordAuthentication( InetAddress.getByName(connection.getURL().getHost()),
    connection.getURL().getPort(), connection.getURL().getProtocol(), null, "Basic");
    StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer("*****************");
    buf.append(":");
    buf.append("************");
    String encoded = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode(buf.toString().getBytes());
    connection.setRequestProperty ("Authorization", "Basic" + encoded);
    InputStream content = (InputStream)connection.getInputStream();
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader (content));
    String line;
    while ((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(line);
    Let me know if there is any other alternative

    Below is my first test program. I first take the home page of a website (this can be automated later) and save it to "myTest.html". Then I try to see if this page contains the keywords that a company website often has.
    Could you give your opinion on this approach?
    If this approach is fine, then any idea about the keywords to select a company website from other sites is welcome.

  • Access database using Java from HTML webpage

    Hi,
    I've got to create some online maths tests to be taken by students with their marks being stored in a database.
    I've wrote some simple java code which can add/remove and modify entries in a test mySQL database that I made. What I now need to do is be able to add entries to the database from a html page.
    The math tests will be java applets with the students having to interact according to questions, press submit and their score will be output. The score will then be entered into the database.
    The problem I'm having is that with an Applet their are all sorts of security issues (I'm having problems getting images to load in an Applet) so assume I'll face the same security issues when I try to access a database through an applet.
    So, could someone please help get started.
    Cheers

    MVC - I assume you mean model-view-control and not Marvel vs Capcom :)
    If so then does this mean I should completely seperate the user interface (the actual applets that will contain the test), the database (that will store the results) and the link between the two?
    is it possible to acheive this using Java, Java Applets, Java Script and the database (in my case mySQL) and could you give me some tips on how best to tackle the problem.
    Thanks

  • Interactive ROI Calculator using Flash Catalyst?

    Hello, a client of ours has asked us to create an interactive ROI calculator similar to the one in the following link:
    http://bit.ly/98vjCF
    Our design and production department does work in Flash, mainly to create simple web banners, however they're not hardcore Flash developers by any means. We'll be upgrading from CS4 to CS5 with Catalyst soon. Is it possible to create an interactive ROI calculator using this software or would using a seasoned Flash developer be a better choice?
    Thanks for any info.
    henry

    Hi Henry,
    You can use Flash Catalyst to design the UI of your calculator, both for protyping and optionally for final production too.  However, to do the actual calculations you'll have to write a bit of code using another tool.  For example, you can import the Catalyst project into Flash Builder and wire up the calculation logic to the UI you've created.  This gives you the option of having a nontechnical designer work on the UI, while a less design-oriented developer writes code without having to worry much about the visuals.
    The underlying code used in a Catalyst project is Flex 4.  This should be a snap for a seasoned Flash developer to work with.  Or, a Java or JavaScript developer should also be able to get up to speed on Flex pretty easily (especially if the UI was already built in Catalyst and the dev is just wiring up the "business logic").
    Hope that helps,
    - Peter

  • Creating an ES using Java + exposing SAP functionalities as an ES

    Hi experts,
    I am new to SOA and need to learn more about defining new enterprise service.
    My skill set is basically Java and J2ee concepts including web services.
    As a webservice programmer, I can understand the interesting concept of SOA.
    And I wanted to practise on SOA, by defining a simple ES and build a simple business process based on that.
    Now I have downloaded NWDS , NW Composition environment and ESR.
    I have also practised some WD, EP and VC.
    Do I need any more s/w to be downloaded?
    Now can any of you suggest,
    1)Steps needed to define and build a new ES using Java?
    2)How to expose simple SAP functionalities as an enterprise service?
    3)Last step and the only step I know is to build a business process using VC. But, can any of you suggest a simple business process for me to compose and practise, using enterprise services built in Java, or enterprise services exposing a SAP functionality ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Aravind.

    Hi Aravind,
    Do I need any more s/w to be downloaded?
    No, these are sufficient to approach towards Business process, compsition and ESOA .
    1)Steps needed to define and build a new ES using Java?
    Enterprise services are currently being implemented by customers, partners or SAP itself. May be in future they come up with something.
    J2EE Web Services can be developed with web servers and tools, But ES is more of business semantics instead of technical one.
    The main difference between SOA and ESOA is approch.
    Earlier anything we were exposing with Web Services , we were calling it as SOA.i.e we were/are exposing already developed functions as web service for better interoperatibility.
    ESOA is defining services in such a way that they are useful for reuability with business semantics and implementation is done after preparing the interface.
    Currently, it is not much clear to provide implementation with ABAP or JAVA or wahat are pros/cons of any approach except that what skills are available.
    You will not be able to develop an Enterprise Services, but merely you can simple develop and deploy any Web Service.
    2)How to expose simple SAP functionalities as an enterprise service?
    Again, this is done by SAP. You can expose Function Modules(ABAP) as a web Service but that is not true ESOA approach.
    3)Last step and the only step I know is to build a business process using VC. But, can any of you suggest a simple business process for me to compose and practise, using enterprise services built in Java, or enterprise services exposing a SAP functionality ?
    CAF( complete J2EE  solution) is maily used to define Business Process with user interaction. You can find a lot of tutorials in SDN.
    Hope this helps.

    Piyush
