Interface RMAN with BACKUP EXEC

Hi,
I want to backup my database on tape with backup exec but i don't know the parameters to put on init.ora.
Thanks

Possibly 2 parameters (depends on the environment, refer to your MML documentation):
RMAN utilizes the LARGE_POOL area of the SGA for allocating
memory for input/output buffers.
     The LARGE_POOL is only used if I/O Slaves are specified by one or
both of the initialization parameters DBWR_IO_SLAVES or BACKUP_TAPE_IO_SLAVES.
If DBWR_IO_SLAVES has a non-zero value and/or BACKUP_TAPE_IO_SLAVES is set to TRUE,
then RMAN uses the LARGE_POOL because the I/O Slave Processes must coordinate their
buffer read/writes in a common area. If no value for LARGE_POOL_SIZE is set in the init.ora file,
and if I/O slaves are configured to be used, then RMAN uses the SHARED_POOL for
input and output buffers. This can put severe strain on the Shared Pool,
and should be avoided. This is often indicated by RMAN receiving an ora-4031
error from the target database.

  • Unable to restore SharePoint farm with Backup Exec - Farm Topolgy appears to be locked and job repeatedly fails

    Hi All
    I'm attempting a full restore of a SharePoint 2010 farm, single server housed on the same server as the SQL server that holds the SharePoint databases. Backup and restore is via Backup Exec, the backup job was carried out via BE 2012 and the Restore is via
    BE 2104. The server I'm attempting to restore to has also been restored by using the system state and a copy of the drives from the original source server - hence its pretty much a clone of the source server.
    Irrespective of the account used to run the restore job I'm seeing repeated failures with the error "Unable to lock the Microsoft SharePoint Farm Topology. You must unlock the farm topology and retry the job".
    By restoring the admin databases directly by taking a SQL backup of the source databases and restoring these to the server I'm attempting to restore SharePoint to I have succeeded in bringing the SharePoint admin console back to
    life, none of the sites are in a locked state, and they can be locked and unlocked both via the admin console or via Powershell. Locking and unlocking the makes no difference.
    Any ideas where I can look to from here, could the above error be a cryptic Backup Exec error that doesn't actually mean what it says?

    Hi,
    Reviewing the DPMRACurr log on the target server during the Date/Time of restore may assist with potential paths to why the job is failing. The logs can be found in the
    following path on the target server <DPM Install path>/Program Files Microsoft Data Protection Manager/DPM/Temp
    The logs may uncover why we face the current issue. For example the following “ATTACH " – Failed <and also reason why>
    Also the DPM server MSDPMCurr log during the Date/Time of restore may also assist with the issue you face. For example the following may be seen “MountDatabaseFailed”
    Also note the below process is carried out with the method of restore which was used.
    DPM restores the DB to the destination SQL server once the DB is attached, then the restore process is complete and now will be SharePoint front end server connecting to
    that DB using the account that was setup with configuresharepoint.exe -enablesharepoint protection. That account needs permissions to connect to that database. The attach phase itself is using the system account from DPMRA process on the local SQL Server.
    If you identify the issues are permission related first ensure
    the DPMRA service [logon account] has access within SQL for the SQL instance that we are restoring to this account will need DB creator for the following system DB master.

  • Backup Exec 12.5 and Rac database

    We always use rman to backup and restore our rac database without problems but now we would like to try with Backup Exec 12.5. Yesterday we installed the server for backup exec and the oracle agent for linux and by the way we did a full backup of our Rac database. The problems was when we tried to restore it. When we restore a single database it work but when we try with RAC it does not work.
    Questions:
    Is there a different agent for oracle Rac database or it is the same?
    Are there aditional steps to configure the agent for Rac database?
    I really appreciate your help.

    ++We are using flash recovery area and all archive logs, flash back logs and backup sets go in there?The system administrator wants to back up the full directory of flash recovery area. Would that be enough?Is a backup of oracle home is needed?+
    Normally there is no need to take oracle backup home , if yours FRA contain baskupset for database files (controlfile,db files),archivelogs ,flashback logs.You should also consider the pfile if you are not using spfile,spfile itself contain in RMAN backupsets.
    Consider yours oracle binary backup (i.e cold backup) before any maintainance (patching activity).
    Read http://oraware.blogspot.com/2008/07/fra-capacity-planning.html
    Are there any backup settings required before backing up files while the database is on, like setting them in backup mode or etc?
    yes for online database should be in archivelog mode,if you are using RMAN then there is no any setting required before backup , using RMAN you just have to connect with target database and start online backup using yours own backup script.
    Any documentation discussing the backup steps, and what needs to be backed up will be appreciated

  • OES and Sles11sp1 upgrade Backup Exec cannot backup nss vols

    After successfully upgrading to the latest oes and linux 11 sp1, I now find that backup exec 2010 (ralus) will not find any files to backup in an nss volume. Everything was working fine before the upgrade, and BE can see the nss volume, but finds nothing inside it. Otherwise, all files are visible from other network connections, and I can find no new version of ralus to put things working again.
    Anyone got any ideas regarding this matter?

    Why not also open a S.R. with Backup Exec? Do they even support their product?

    It's not you, seems to be an universal issue. I strongly suggest to open

  • How to restore a table using RMAN with previous backup ?

    Hi everyone,
    we have to restore a table from 1 week previous backup using RMAN.
    Could you show me how to restore a table using RMAN with previous full backup.
    please Help me out.
    Thanks
    Info > oracle 10g, OS: AIX5L

    Hi,
    first of all you must have all the archivelogs since you want to recover your table from the previous backups.
    anyways if you want to recover your table then you need to perform incomplete recovery to the point where you loss the table for that you need to restore and recover your database.you likely to loose all the transcation which occurs to the point where you you loose your table.
    thanks..

  • RMAN Automatic backup/recovery with oracle fail safe, windows cluster

    Hello,
    I have question,
    1) Whether it is possible to do "RMAN Automatic Backup and recovery" in environment as ?
    Environment: -
    a. Windows clustering with windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 (Two Node Clustering)
    b. Shared disk ( RAID )
    c. Oracle 10g standard edition one
    d. Oracle fail safe v3.3.3 (for redundancy)
    Here we have single oracle instance operating on single database whose files are located on shared disk.
    2) If answer to above question is yes please specify if there is some good documentation to it.
    Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rahul

    You just need to make sure that the RMAN scripts are always able to connect to the target database instance whether instance runs on cluster node 1 or cluster node 2
    here, If oracle services(resources) will shift from Node1 to Node2 (due to media or any failure) during RMAN Backup then there will be break in connection, will it destroy my backup or will it get started automatically without any harm?
    and also I want to know,
    Do we need to setup another server which will have RMAN backup script running?

  • Rman archivelog backup fails with rman-03002,ora-19563

    Hi,
    D:\ Oracle- -\BIN\RMAN TARGET / NOCATALOG
    RMAN> backup archivelog all;
    RMAN-03002: Error with backup command on 06-25-2013
    ORA-19563: Header-Validation is not successful.
        fails with the given errors.
    11.2.0.2 PROD DB on Windows Server 2008  R2 Enterpriise.
    When I issue BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 0 DATABASE; it works fine. but with archivelog it is creating problems. Unfortunatly, I have not found exactly the same problem on google and on Oracle support.
    The DB is using INIT.ORA and last time when I switched the mode to archive log mode I set the parameter like SCOPE=MEMORY as SPFILE was not in use and ALTER SYSTEM with SCOPE=BOTH  FRA destination and size, but after the DB restarting of course that setting is gone and I am having these problems.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks a lot.
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
    Thanks a lot.
    I don't think that archivelogs were relocated, except I changed the location yesterday.
    As I wrote at the start that because of INIT.ORA file being in use instead of SPFILE. I set DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST, DB_RECOVERY_DEST_SIZE after changing the DB mode to ARCHIVELOG, but DB was restarted by somebody else, and as the parameter changing was NOT PERMANENT, it rollback.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST was set to d:\oradata\db with archivelog mode but db_recovery_file_dest and size was set to 0. Now here, I have no idea that whether archivelogs were not being backed up or deleted physically, but I guess that as log_archive_dest parameter is deprecated and mode is set to archivelog with no real ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION. Please correct me if I am wrong or totally wrong :-)
    I performed DELETED EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL, and it deleted 49 EXPIRED objects.
    Now CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL and LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL shows nothing.
    LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL has of course those 49 archivelog gap.
    Could you please tell the impacts of those 49 missing archivelogs. Retention policy is set to 14 days. I mean the risk is for 14 days right? As anyhow, the older backups are being DELETED according to retention policy of RMAN.

  • RMAN merge backup with compression

    Hi All,
    Os : solaris 10
    db: 10.2.0.4
    as of now as per our backup strategy we are taking RMAN levle 0 weekly and daily incremental backup as compressed.
    we are planning to take RMAN merge backup like below
    For full backup on sunday
    backup incremental level 0 AS COPY tag 'DEMO_MERGE_DB' database ;rest of the days
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'DEMO_MERGE_DB' DATABASE;My question is , while taking as merge is there any option to compress the backup.
    i have gone through but dint see any info regarding this.
    Please help...
    Thanks in Advance
    Mvk

    merge backup , updated backup and image copy are these things are same or any difference inbetween..Image copy of backup copy of the data file
    merge backup means that you take incremental backup of data and merge it with the image backup copy of the datafile so that backup copy is updated all the time and in case of recovery, you don't need to apply all archives since backup copy because his copy is already up to date till the time of last merge backup.
    Now your image copy backup is an updated backup because it is keep on updated with the incremental backups using merge backup strategy.

  • Backup Exec with NSS 300 series

    We've just got hold of a NSS 324 with two disks
    installed, and need to back it up via Backup Exec 12.5 has
    anyone outhere actually done this ?
    I can map a drive to the share on the NSS box but Backup Exec can't see it
    Server OS Windows Server 2003
    NSS Firmware 1.0.0

    I haven't used backup exc with the NSS324, but I did see the firmware you are currently running on is the initial release and they have been 3 updated releases since then with a updated Samba client included so I would recommend upgrading to the latest firmware.

  • Automating refreshing one system with the rman hot backup copy from another

    Hi Apps DBAs,
    Right now we have two systems: production (OPEBSN) and production support (FINSUP).
    I implemented a cronjob, which can refresh FINSUP every night from the cold backup of production. We shutdown the production system at night.
    But our istore on production will go live soon and our production system will run 24*7.
    The production is already hot backed up from RMAN.
    Is it possible to do the following?
    Automating refreshing FINSUP from the RMAN hot backup of OPEBSN?
    If it is possible, would you please outline the general idea or give me a reference documentation?
    If it is not possible, is there any other way to realize our purpose?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Backup/restore using RMAN with no catalog

    Hi all,
    Can someone tell me if this is correct:
    I have two identical machines, same configuration and same file structure, everything is the same.
    On machine A, I have a 9.2.0.7 database running. I take a hot backup and try to restore it on machine B.
    Note: I am using RMAN for backup/restore whith no catalog.
    This is how I perform backup on machine A:
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL C1 TYPE DISK;
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL=0 CUMULATIVE format '/backup/level0_%u' BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE format '/backup/control_primary' FORCE;
    SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL format '/backup/archivelogs_%s_%t';
    On machine B, here is how I perform restore:
    SET DBID 1221334455;
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/backup/control_primary';
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
    RESTORE DATABASE VALIDATE;
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    Recover database;
    Thanks,

    You forgot to restore the spfile or pfile on the second node to go to nomount state.
    OR
    You can use RMAN Duplicate to do this.
