Intermedia problem

Hi Friends,
To implement search capabilities in my oracle database, iam trying to install and configure intermedia. While doing this i came across a few issues:
1. In Our current setup we wish to use Oracle intermedia. All we need is to be able to create ctxsys.context index and query our tables using CONTAINS keyword. Do we need to install Oracle intermedia for this or Oracle Text is enough or these two are tied together?
2. After intermedia install, I found that 4-5 tables with names DR$indexname are created. Do we need to take into account any memory allocation issues while creating this index(ctxsys.context )?
3. Also the query takes longer time to retrieve results. What are the considerations to optimize the query? (The table that I am querying has about 5000 records and I created ctxsys.context index for two fields of sizes varchar2(4000) and varchar2(2000) )
Any help on this wd be highly appreciated.

Intermedia problem after upgrade Portal 3.0.7 to 3.0.9

Hello,
I had several reports in Portal 3.0.7 with embedded Intermedia data ORDSYS.ORDIMAGE - they worked fine in Portal 3.0.7. After I upgraded iAs from 1.0.2.0 to 1.0.2.2 and Portal to 3.0.9. in all my reports I see only AAAHLOAADAAAAIFAAG instead of images. The same situation if I create new report with ORDIMAGE data.
Have anybody met this problem?

It is a bug that has been identified and and rectified. I am sorry there are no workarounds. I am afraid you will have to
wait till the next release to solve your problem.

Jdev 9.0.5 Intermedia Problem

Hi All
I have a problem displaying an image that is stored in a database table.
I am using Jdev 9.0.5 and the Intermedia library, to display the contents of a fileld of type Ordimagedomain. I drop this field on a form as an adf render value.
Everything runs correctly from the embedded oc4j on my pc, but when I deploy the app to the Application Server, I am getting errors.
This is what the log states:

10.1.3 to 10.1.3.3 intermedia problem

I have a simple app developed in 10.1.3 that displays a jpg image - when I run the same app (migrate from 10.1.3 to 10.1.3.3 or re-develop from scratch) the image is not displayed (tried both IE and firefox)?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

thank you very much for the advices - I reorganized the libraries and had to refactor a bit of Model source code in order to make it compiled:
basically I had to change *VOImpl classes - added dependency on Row interface. I'm wondered why there is no a clear Migration guide which enlists such issues.
Also, if your 10.x project heavily relies on af:region - forget about smooth migration.
Now I''m trying to use Model in a new View module - will put some notes here.

Problem commit w/intermedia adf struts uix & 1 step submit/commit to user

JDev 9051, ADF, Struts, ix & Intermedia
Problem:
Inserting intermedia data type (ORDSYS.ORDIMAGE) AND wanting the "commit to happen behind the scenes" so the user does not have to press submit and then commit.
I am having a problem committing a record to the DB when the form contains an intermedia data type. If I do not fill in the image column (using file upload) it works fine. My work around for now is to commit twice.
To create a new entry that contains intermedia data type (ORDSYS.ORDIMAGE) I am using the following flow of events.
NOTE: THIS DOES NOT WORK IF I UPLOAD AN IMAGE, HOWEVER, IF I LEAVE THE IMAGE COLUMN BLANK IT WORKS FINE.
01. start at browseInventory.uix
02. press create button which triggers event named createInventoryEvent
03. which gives control to createInventoryFoward
04. which fires Data Action named createInventoryAction
05. which forwards to formInventory.uix
06. user supplies data and presses the submit button which triggers event named commitInventoryEvent
07. which gives control to commitInventoryFoward
08. which fires Data Action named commitInventoryAction
09. which forwards to browseInventory.uix

cause I cuirrently have the smae problem. It seems that it uses the first commit to instantiate the object, and the second commit to actually upload it to the database.

HP ENVY H8 Series Issues w/ Drives & Explorer, and Windows

Hello all,
I purchased the computer brand new, and have had intermediant problems throughout its life. The wi-fi card in this computer is garbage (it is now hard-wired, being the only true solution) and the Windows installation seemed a bit buggy, but I let that slide since it may have been Microsoft's fault. (it has improved w/ updates)
My major issues I keep constantly notice after years of installing updates is that my taskbar will disappear and windows explorer will restart at random. Additionally, I have multiple media drive ports on the front (CF, SD, xD, Pro Duo, etc) and it has been giving me issues with reading SD cards. Before my SD card is blamed, I have 4 of them and they all perform perfectly in the cameras they are in. The computer does not have problems getting data off of the card after its read it intially, but in order for it to recognize that I've inserted an SD card - I have to go into Device Manager and select the SD card under the Drives section. Once it pops up (sometimes it hesitates a few seconds before doing so), the properties window shows up with no prompting errors cited. At this point, the SD card magically appears in the Explorer window like normal. I've gotten used to this practice and have the Device Manager shortcuted to my Desktop. Yes, the LED indicator does light when the SD card is physically inserted into the slot, but the computer seems to be on deaf ears about it. Either way, these are small problems with likely Software... but I figured I'd ask since they bother me occasionally when I need to just get something off the SD card quickly or am trying to quickly print out something. It has gotten better with updates however, but these issues just simply haven't been addressed, and I feel they won't be.

Windows 8.1 64-bit
Intel i5 Processor (i5-3350P Model @ 3.10GHz)
~10GB RAM (per System Properties)
1.79TB HDD, w/ 332GB Free
Uses: Video Editing/Encoding , Occasional PC Gaming , Internet/Home Use

Intermedia problem
We have developed a stored procedure to upload images on Database 8.1.5 on WNT server. Launching the procedure we get the following error:
The following error has occurred:
ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded
ORA-04067: not executed, package body "ORDSYS.ORDIMAGE" does not exist
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called

When the following istruction is reached:
Select IMMAGINE
Into OBJ
From TAB_IMMAGINI
Where ID_IMMAGINE = WW_ID_IMMAGINE

OBJ.import (CTX);

Hi Michael sorry for your troubles - a really irritating issue to have!
This is usually a hardware issue.
You don't mention how you are downloading images.
In general most folks would strongly recommend not downloading straight from the camera because of the number of issues that occur.
If you are using a card-reader then it is likely that it is still a hardware issue.
It may be the card reader, the USB cable, or the USB controller (rarer but still possible).

Problem w/ image item using 9i BLOB field and InterMedia ORDImage Object

I have a problem with image item in Form 6i. Oracle 9i is used as backend DB, and a table contains image data is created for testing:
create table image_test(
id number,
image blob
In Form 6i, there is no problem to create a block for inserting/updating the image record into the database. However, it can not be used to retrieve image (blob field), the image item remains empty after 'execute query', while the id field can be retrieved. When the same table is created in Oracle 8.1.7, and the exact same form can be used without any problem both in inserting and retrieval. It seems that the Oracle 9i does not use the same way to store BLOB column. Has anybody ever encountered this problem? How to retrieve image (BLOB) in Form 6i from Oracle 9i?
I tried to use interMedia ORDImage as the data type in Oracle 9i, that is,
create table image_test(
id number,
image ORDSYS.ORDImage
Same problem, the form can insert record with image, but when retrieving, nothing displayed. Anybody could help! Thanks in advance!

same problem..but i used (instead of blob or clob as datatype..) Long raw..
it can be saved as usual..i mean Commit..
and can be retrieved..using Execute_Query..its working fine..

Urgent Problem:Upgrade intermedia (Waiting online)

I have an urgent problem needed to be confirmed right now becasue it influence on our project
decision.
We planed to uograde interMedia from 8.1.6 version to 9i r2 version.And precondition is that current oracle database(8.1.6.0.0 ) can't be upgraded to 9i becasue our client don't want to do it.Hence,do you consider it's possible?
And how much cost if possible?
Furthermore,can you tell me or give me some evaluation report that I can earn any benifit on Performance and precise(Chinse fulltext search) by upgrading?

The problem about the interMedia with JMF

I have done the following things:
1. Add jmfordim.jar into my client computer's CLASSPATH
2. Using JMFRegistry, Add "oracle.ord" into both my client's "protocol Prefix List" and "Content Prefix List" in PackageManager tab, commit on both.
My computer is a client, and the Oracle 9i database and the intermedia are installed on another server with the service name "CAO". I use the JMStudio on my computer.
But when I use the URL :"im://oci8/CAO/scott:tiger/SELECT t.aud.getcontent(), t.aud.getmimetype() FROM TAUD t WHERE n = 1 " and add into the JMStudio's OpenURL,
it can't work correctly.
Would you please tell me the reason? Thank you very much!

Can you post the error message? Or print out a java stack dump with the exception text?
There can be problems in different areas, without the error information, I cannot hope to tell you why it does not work. Perhaps you don't have the orcale JDBC driver in your path?

Problem in intermedia Please help me!

I am University student in South Korea. I'm major in Computer Engineering. I'm using Oracle 9i. And then I'm using 'intermedia' package. I'm interesting in Content-based retrieval. Among them, I'm interesting in Image retrieval.
But problem is happened in Oracle and Java linked. Problem class is 'getCustumDatum'. Error message came out 'this class can't using' What can I do? Please help me.
Error message : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: sqlj/runtime/ref/DefaultContext

InterMedia Web Agent problems...

I have Oracle 8.1.5 and OAS 4.0.8 on an NT machine. I have installed interMedia Web Agent, having shut the OAS services down first, configured the application as described in the doc and restarted all services. I have one listener for OAS on port 90. When I try to access http://servername:90/intermedia/~admin I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error. Why?
I have checked all the settings within OAS and they look fine. NT is running SP5. I can access http://servername:90/ fine.
Any help gratefully received!

The interMedia web agent is installed in the
OAS home and you can see the intermedia application and cartridge in the OAS admin page?
Have you checked the OAS wrb.log file? That is where errors should be displayed. If it is a web agent problem, check <windows_dir>wsclstch.err or log files in <OAS_HOME>/ord/web/logs.
What do they say about starting the agent?
Test the agent with http://host:port/intermedia/~test

IFS 9i configuration problem: "intermedia seems to be misconfigured"

I installed Oracle 9iAs with corresponding database.
So, I want to use IFS.
I launched ./ifsconfig from $Oracle_Home/ifs1.1/bin.
I want to use Intermedia Option.
I verified that ctxsys user can connect to the database.
When the "IFS Configuration Assistant" verifies Intermedia Configuration,
I obtain the following message:
The following error occured:
oracle.ifs.utils.action.ActionFailedException:
interMedia seems to be misconfigured:
java.sql.SQLException:
Exhausted Resultset
What can I do?
When I don't use Intermedia option, then IFS work fine.,
but I can't search in contents of documents :(

I had the same problem. Make sure you set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable on the database server to "$ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib" then restart the database.

Problems clause within (Intermedia text)

I have problems using the clause within in a XML file. I suspect that is impossible for the intermedia text to find words within tags with attributes, could you help me, my friend?

If you got also an ORA-3113 see in alert.log if there is a trace
referenced with this error and have a look in this file to find a
better error message.

Intermedia Image transform problem with Tifs 64k

Hello, I have loaded a bunch of Tifs ranging in size from about 8k up to 120 or so kilobytes. When I try to do a scale transform on them and change them into GIFs using the image.process('scale="0.2"') command for example only the TIf images that are about 64k and under get processed; for the rest I get an unhandled internal exception. I am running Oracle 8.1.5 Enterprise Edition on a Sun Enterprise 250 with .5 gig RAM. Should I reconfigure how much ram is available to Intermedia and if so how do you do that?

I directly got in touch with John, and his problem has been sold.
He sent two Tiff images - a bad one and a good one. An image expert took a look at them. Here is his comment:
