Intermittent failure to send mail and/or save sent...

Several times now I have sent mail & got no record of the sent mail - no settings change, just mail server behaviour.... I have set Mac Mail up for IMAP and asked to store sent messages on the server.  Most times it is fine, but occasionally fails to save the sent message, although the message is delivered to the recipient.
More worryingly, and on random occasions, my sent mail is not even delivered - with no failure notice.  BTYahoo server seems to deliver (goes ok) but then simply ignores or loses the mail, even though it appears in my sent mail folder.  Other times I get no record of sent mail.  Mac Mail doesn't seem to have read receipts as an option, so of course the only way to find it hasn't been delivered is when I speak or email again and am told it didn't arrive.  Turns out that it fails to be received by all recipients, not just one, so seems to be a BTYahoo issue, not another mail server in the WWW.
Has anyone else discovered that mails sent aren't being received or stored?  Or have ideas why this might be happening?
Certainly isn't acceptable mail server behaviour....
Cheers
Andy

I've been having problems with my BT Yahoo mail since day 1 (July 9th). It nearly always fails to send the first time but then sends fine the second time I try. For about an hour this evening I wasn't able to send or receive at all because of a bunch of acronyms that the server had stopped supporting.
I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. I just figured you'd like to know you're not alone.

Interesting db mail issue. If i click send test mail from sql mgmt studio, it works fine, but when i execute a SP to send a mail, it fails. One thing I noticed is that the "LastModified" column in the mail log shows the domain account when a test
mail was sent from mgmt studio, but show "sa" when the SP was used to send mail.
This is from SQL 2012, did not see this in sql 2008, looks like 2008 always used the service account.  any ideas ?
    Get this error:

    Thanks.

    Hi Ranga,
I also use SQL Server 2012. I send a test email through SQL Server Management and the last modified By “sa”.
If you used stored procedure to send a test email. Please use the command below:
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
    @profile_name = 'Adventure Works Administrator',
    @recipients = '[email protected]',
@body = 'The stored procedure finished successfully.',
    @subject = 'Automated Success Message' ;
I can both send test email through SQL Server Management Studio and SP. Make sure you have the right profile. Since you could send test mail via SQL Server Management Studio, please try again to send it via SP.
    Thanks.

  • It stopped sending mail and moving messages between folders, junk messages stopped being moved.

Recently, Thunderbird stopped sending mail and moving messages between folders, junk messages stopped being moved.

Further notes (different user, same problem):
    * This is a problem that started in Thunderbird 32
    * This involves both automatic (filter) moves and manual moves
    * This includes use of keys and hotkeys (the delete key, for example)
    * Restarting Thunderbird does seem to "reset" the problem... for a while. I notice the problem most when either I've been away from the computer/program for a while or when waking a laptop computer from a sleep or hibernation state.

  • When forwarding mail i select a group to send mail and when i go to select another group it will not open for me to select other emails in that file.

when forwarding mail i select a group to send mail and when i go to select another group it will not open for me to select other emails in that file.

When you select a "group", it automatically selects everyone in that group.
    If your just trying to add other people outside that group, then in the "To" make sure the curser is just after the last entry and you can hold your finger on that line to get your contact list to pop up or after the last entry you should have showing after that ;
Example:   [email protected]; [email protected];          *notice the ; then a space for the next one

  • Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts.....

Mail doesn't save sent mail on one of my email accounts. I have several accounts, but on one of them it just doesn't save any mail I send. Is there a hidden setting I've missed somewhere? I did delete the account and then reset it, but it took out all of my emails to that address so I'm loathe to do that again!

I'm lucky enough to have two Macs running OS X 10.9 next to each other, both using the same network, and sharing a common Exchange mail server. My corporate machine (an first gen' Aluminium iMac) has both Outlook and Mail installed. My personal machine (a 13" MacBook Air) has only Mail installed.
Neither install of Mail is guarenteed to write sent messages to the Exchange Sent folder (it might happen, it might not). Both write perfectly to other common mail servers (e.g. GMail). Outlook writes perfectly to the Exchange server, but generally functions less effectively as a mail client than Apple Mail.
The failure to write to the Exchange server only happened after the upgrade.
    It's quite frustrating.

Another easy thing to try is to quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Did you send an email with a large attachment by any chance?

  • I have 2 email addresses set up on my iphone 5, 1 can send mail and the other can't... have tried deleting and adding the account, no luck, have tried all suggestions... anyone help?

I have recently purchased the iphone 5S and have two AOL email accounts set up on it. They could both receive and send mail on the first day, but from the second day only 1 can send mail (both still receive). I get an message saying "Unable to send mail. A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed." This has been the response now for 3 days and suddenly this morning, I was able to send an email from this account, but only the one and now it's back to that same message. I have deleted and added the account again, using various methods. I even reset my phone and set it all up again from beginning with no luck. It is very frustrating and I am unsure why I can't send from both accounts, especially being that they are the same provider. I have read forums and it appears many have this same problem and I wondered if anyone has had it recently on this phone and how they fixed it. Someone said just use the AOL app to send from this account, yes that can be done, but it's inconvenient having to sign in all the time when i have a mail app that should work automatically. Any suggestions would be welcomed!!

I am not sure if this issue is going to help you but lets give it a try.
I know that where im from, which is the Netherlands, I am not able to sent e-mails from my iPhone or any other mobile device by using 3G or a random WIFI acces point. The provider only allowes you to sent e-mails when you are connected to a network of there own. Which means if you have provider "101" and your email settings are set up for this provider in your iPhone but your using the network of a friend of yours which is provider "202" you cannot sent emails from his network. Though you can receive them you may not sent.
As I said, I am not aware if this issue is the same for you totaly depents on the country and provider your using.

  • Mail 2.1.1 recieves but doesn't send mail and gives no error message?

I've an issue with mail on an I-Mac with 2 gig intel core duo running O/S 10.4.9 and mail app version 2.1.1. I was using the machine at my studio for a studio manager. I downsized the studio and gave that machine to my parents who have been using an old G4 I gave them running o/s X and using the mail app for all their e-mailing. I migrated their old system from the G4 to the I-mac via target mode and everything seemed to be working until they tried to type more than one word in the body of the e-mail. once you hit the space bar and try to type another word it just gives an error tone. Also they are not able to send mail but are able to recieve. There is absolutely no error message or tone when you hit send or hit the return key. It just does nothing and gives me no feedback. I have gone through all the settings from the old machine which is sending and recieving mail as it has for the last 3 years with out incidence. I've updated the software, verified and repaired the disk and permissions. They are using RCN as their ISP with a cable modem. Again the G4 is working as it should with the exact same settings that the I-mac is configured with. Is there some issue with the older intel machines? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks,
    -Russ

This problem in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption that affects the built-in spell checker. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.

  • IWIK how to Send mail and continue WF process

    ECC 6.0
    Basis rel. 7.0
    Workflow and Extended Notificaitons.
I am using extended notifications to send an email to outlook to let the user know his request has been approved.  It is for notification only - no action is required.   I create a workitem with the task description containing the text for the email.  The object.method in the task is SELFITEM.SENDTASKDESCRIPTION.  Everything works except this workitem remains unprocessed after SWN_SWNSELSEN runs and the email is sent.  The WI is waiting for the user to reserve and execute it from the BWP.  I need for the task to be completed and the workflow to continue once the mail is sent.   There must be a way around this problem, but I am not finding it.  I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help.
I tried to use a send mail task - swn_selsen does not find it.
As a temporary fix I plan to use a modeled deadline to complete the task allowing enough time for the swn_selsen sweep to occur.  This does not seem like a solid solution though.  If the batch job is down for whatever reason, the workitem could complete before the mail is sent and that would not be good.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,
    Jeff Gray

My recommendation is to scrap your solution and try again. Use a sendmail step for this purpose instead of creating a fragile solution which depends on the timing and success of various jobs.
If you have problems with the sendmail step, let's try to solve those problems instead.
If you insist on continuing with your current approach, try parallell branches. Then it won't matter if the step is never executed, and the notification will be sent whenever the batch job runs (as long as the branch hasn't been completed). But again, I recommend that you rethink your approach instead.

  • Sending Mail and kernel panic

PLEASE PLEASE help me on this issue.
Since I updated to Leopard (which has been the biggest mistake so far) every time I try to send an e-mail (using Apple Mail 3.0) through my company's server I get a Kernel Panic issue in four languages and I have to restart my computer. The funny thing is that sending the e-mail through Gmail's server works fine.
I don't know what to do, but its driving me crazy.
I appreciate all the help I can get to solve this problem.

    Thank you for your post!
Here are some troubleshooting steps for you to follow that may help you attempt to rectify your problem.
    (1) Please ensure that you have ran all software updates: Apple, then Software Update, then install all updates that are shown. Once updates have been ran and you have rebooted, continue this process until it says no more updates are available at this time.
    (2) What happens when you log into your companies webmail and attempt to send a message on the same connection? Does the same issue occur? If so consult with your IT administrator and see if other Macintosh users are having a similar problem.
    (3) What happens when you attempt to send Mail in the activity pane? Click, (at top of screen) Window, then Activity pane before the panic occurs?
    (4) Try creating a new user in System Preferences, then Accounts. Once you're in System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon. Then click on the padlock, and authenticate with your Administrative password. Click on the "+" sign, then the drop down that says "standard", and change that to Administrator. In each field type the word "test", and then click create account. Close out of System Preferences, then log out of your user account (Apple icon, then log-out). Once you've done this launch mail in the test user and reconfigure it with only your work mail account. Does the same issue persist in the new user when attempting to send mail? If so boot to your install disc for Leopard and run Disk Utilities Disk First Aid- Repair Disk and then proceed to Archive and Reinstalling your operating system preserving user and network settings.
    Following this article is advised:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    (5) If you're able to send Mail successfully in the new user log out of test and log back into your user account as you've isolated the issue to be user specific. Go to System Preferences and delete the test user account then once you're sure no application is open such as Mail open a Finder window and then navigate to your Home folder, then Library, then Mail. Click and drag the Mail folder to the desktop. Then click Preferences, and find and remove com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop as well. Log out and log back in. Relaunch mail and reconfigure your mail account for work. If you click on Mail, then Preferences, then Accounts, make sure only your work account is listed in an attempt to remove any other variables. If the Google one is still listed remove it. Then re-add your work account after confirming the outgoing mail address with your IT administrator and the correct port number in addition to whether or not SSL is required and what type of authentication is necessary. If this works, then trash the .plist and leave the Mail folder on your desktop in the event you need to revert to your old database for whatever reason for at least a week or so till you're sure the problem has been permanently resolved.
Some other ideas that I have include:
    * Are you hard wired via ethernet to your works network? Is there a wireless network that you can connect to via Airport disabling your ethernet connection? Attempt to send mail from that and see if the unit continues to kernel panic.
    * Make sure any peripheral devices connected to your computer are removed (you never know, unlikely yes, but to be safe I'd remove them).
    * If you upgraded from Tiger archiving and reinstalling preserving users and network settings may very well resolve your issue. Only do this after isolating that the problem is system wide across the OS.
    * Leopard may not be compatible with your network at work for whatever reason, archiving and downgrading back down to Tiger 10.4 is always an option as well. Just make sure to use your Tiger disc and run software updates after to ensure you're on 10.4.11.
Making sure you have a complete backup prior to archiving or making any system modifications is equally as important especially if it's your work machine.
    Hope this helps! :-D

  • I can't send mail and I can't delete mail.

I just can't send mail but receive it just fine.
As well, deleting mail is a problem.

When this happened on my iPhone, I had to go into the mail, contacts, calendars settings and then put my password into the outgoing mail server. Not sure if this is a solution to your problem but it's always worth having a look

I have four hotmail accounts on my iPad (me, kids, wife) and we have all been using them fine however, my wife's hotmail account will not send mails.  I get no error messages at all for this to explain why, it just doesn't reach the intended recipient and does not turn up in the sent mail folder.
I have deleted the account and re installed using a number of the choices including other outlook and even tried yahooing no change.
    Can anyone assist.
I am on the latest iOS
