Intermittent Lock Timeout Exceptions with JE 5.0.58

Hi,
During tests, the system continues to experience Lock Timeout problems from time to time, even with the latest version 5.0.58. The collection contains data which is typically removed shortly after inserted, so records usually have a short lifetime. There are multiple writer threads and 1 delete / reader thread.
Any tips? Note the timeout is already a healthy 3 minutes long, so I don't think that's the problem. Stack trace and details below.
Maybe the best thing to do is to reduce the lock timeout in order to not block the data pipeline, if a simple retry fixes it?
Thanks,
Karl

Karl,
With a 3 minute timeout, you may have a true deadlock (which are sometimes expected) or a bug in your app where you neglect to close a cursor or close a transaction. Increasing the lock timeout is usually not the solution, but the first step is to diagnose what is causing it, and you haven't given us enough information to do that. You haven't said what isolation modes you're using, what transactions are active, how many records are involved in each transactions, etc.
I suggest that you read:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17277_02/html/TransactionGettingStarted/index.html
in particular the Concurrency chapter.
Also see:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/berkeleydb/je-faq-096044.html#HowdoIdebugalocktimeout
for how to get more information about this particular lock conflict.

    Hi sreedhar Gunda,
Check whether the repositories are in active and running mode or not. If they are running fine. then check the authorization is sufficient from BASIS people.

  • Lock Timeouts and Heap Space Exhaustion

I'm having some trouble figuring out the best way to handle resource constraints in my application. Generally speaking, the application works well after starting for about a day or so, but inevitably starts generating "Lock timeout" messages and eventually runs out of heap space.
Here is the main entity class:
    http://github.com/justindthomas/flower_as/blob/master/src/java/name/justinthomas/flower/analysis/statistics/StatisticalInterval.java
Here is a supporting, persistent class:
    http://github.com/justindthomas/flower_as/blob/master/src/java/name/justinthomas/flower/analysis/statistics/StatisticalFlow.java
    This is the data accessor:
    http://github.com/justindthomas/flower_as/blob/master/src/java/name/justinthomas/flower/analysis/statistics/StatisticsAccessor.java
And here is the class that controls the insertion and retrieval of data:
    http://github.com/justindthomas/flower_as/blob/master/src/java/name/justinthomas/flower/analysis/statistics/StatisticsManager.java
The general flow is that a netflow packet is received from a sensor and the StatisticsManager normalizes the flow as it is inserted into the database. The normalization converts the summarized flow into several "resolutions." For example, one resolution might be 5000 ms. So the StatisticsManager takes the flow's end time/5000 - start time/5000 and divides the volume by the result and inserts that data into the database. It sounds kind of confusing, but results in a dataset that allows me to query for netflow activity for any time frame.
It also means that the database is queried as it is written to; existing data is updated more frequently than new data is written.
Regardless, Sleepycat seems to be holding on to more data than it needs to. Once an interval has passed (maybe 5 minutes or so), it is unlikely to be accessed again until queried to create charts. However, the memory usage grows out of control despite the lack of necessity for keeping all but recently entered entries in cache.
This is how the trouble generally starts (note that I've increased the timeout to 15000 ms to try to accommodate for longer wait times, but that just seems to delay the onset of the issue by a day or so):

It's very frustrating, because things run so well at first and then just deteriorate into a resource nightmare. Any suggestions would be welcome. The application is running with 3 CPU cores and 2GB RAM.
Edited by: justindthomas on Oct 23, 2010 7:19 PM: I initially tried to use the forum's "URL" mechanism, but that doesn't seem to work worth anything, so I un-did it.

I've disabled that thread for now. While debugging that, I ran into a SecondaryIntegrityException and I read that I shouldn't use secondary indexes without also using transactions. I enabled transactional processing, but the locking issues grew far worse. I opted to find ways to not use secondary indexes instead. You're right that with secondaries it is important to use txns. But I'm not sure why you're having such severe locking problems with txns. Were you using a txn with a cursor, to perform a scan? If so, I can probably suggest ways of doing that without the txn, if you can describe what you're doing and/or point me to your source code. Or, perhaps you've decided not to use secondaries, and this isn't an issue anymore?

Does any one can guide how to lock particular App with password?

    Yes, do these steps,
    Have you tested this throughly?
As an example 'lock' Safari via your method.
Now use Spotlight to search for Safari, tap it - is it 'locked'?
Now go to your email & find a link to click - Safari opens again.
Guided access is not a 'lock' in any sense of the word, it is a tool designed to stop things happening, but many apps have multiple ways to be found or launched you can't easily block them all.
Mallik_Hyderabad, iOS doesn't have this feature & Apple do not seem interested in adding it (7.5 years & it still isn't an option) - use a passcode with a lock screen timeout if you have any sensitive data on the device or get an Android device.

  • Lock timeout error trying to create a partition

I'm getting a lock timeout error attempting to partition a large BSEG table.  I have done this before successfully on other tables but for some reason this keeps failing with the following error:
Could not execute 'ALTER TABLE "OURSCHEMA"."BSEG" PARTITION BY RANGE (GJAHR) (PARTITION 1 <= VALUES < 1999, PARTITION ...' in 2:30:35.927 hours . SAP DBTech JDBC: [131]: transaction rolled back by lock wait timeout: Lock timeout occurs while waiting TABLE_LOCK of mode EXCLUSIVE(TRANSACTION_ID=128, UPDATE_TRANSACTION_ID=2123074)
NOTE: We have SUSPENDED the replication of BSEG while this partition is happening.
    Anybody experience this problem?
    Thanks,
    -Patrick

    Hi,
Try partitoning the BSEG table from SLT using the t-code IUUC_REPL_CONTENT - Maintaining the replication settings.
Select the schema, select BSEG, go to 'Edit settings' and enter the script in the 'Partition Command' of BSED.
eg,: PARTITION BY HASH(GJAHR) PARTITIONS 5
Try replicating now from Data Prov.
    Hope it works...

  • System wide Lock timeout

    Hi,
I'd like to set a system wide lock timeout to 10 secs, i est I want that if a transaction waits for a row more than 10 seconds, the Oracle forces a ROLLBACK!
Looking in the documentation I found the trigger:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER resumable_default_timeout AFTER SUSPEND ON DATABASE BEGIN DBMS_RESUMABLE.SET_TIMEOUT(10); END;
... but it seems not to work.
Is there any system wide parameter, or another trigger, or I missed something with the above trigger (I shutdown any session to test)!
    thank you
    G.

    Steve,
your answer is complete, the problem I am facing is that:
1 - I should instruct my programmers of the usabily of this tecnique the SELECT ... FOR UPDATE WAIT n, so the timeout is faced from application perspective, and it isn't so bad, in fact every single query could be customized regarding the WAIT time!
The drawback is that if the programmer doesn't use this technique, the application waits for the eternity.
2 - A system wide lock timeout, in any case could force, in any case, a default behaviour, ...
3 - If you are doing a porting from a different RDBMS see DB2, that implements a db lock timeout, you should recode all the SQL, and the porting needs more review and testing of the application!
    Thank you
    very much
    G.

I'm having the same "Unable to read the SIM card" issue. My phone is less than two months old, the unable to read SIM card issue started about a week after I purchased the phone. That was followed by a host of erratic, sporadic issues to the phone becomes unusable and the only way to temporarily fix it is to remove the battery for a few seconds.  I've gone through the factory reset with Verizon reps where I purchased the phone from as well as with a Verizon online Chat representative. In a nutshell, I got a ticket to send the phone back to Samsung in Plano, Texas to get the phone fixed, I am going to do that today because this problem is ridiculous.

I find a similar post in NW04S Java  application remians in "starting apps" phase., but I cannot find the function in "http://<FQDN>:5<NR>00/irj --> System Administration --> Monitoring --> Object Locking"
It seems database issue, because we changed to another database and it's ok. But we restart both database and netweaver, the problem is still the same.

  • Query getting Hung Up and Application giving me TimeOut exception

    Hello Guys,
I have an ASP.NET MVC5 application using database SQL Server 2013.
I have stored procedure with multiple steps.
I am facing a strange problem where in when I run a stored procedure that has multiple steps one of the query from the stored procedure hungs up in between the process and my application gives me a Timeout Exception.
When I run the query in a New Query window in MSSQL it just takes 3 seconds to run and gives me desired results.
IMPORTANT : The table from which I am running select statement is having 3 million records, it has additional 2 Inner Joins with both tables having additional 1 million records
In the procedure at a specific step I am trying to count the number of records that have a specific Product as follows:-
    SELECT COUNT(sp.ProductId) AS NumberOfProducts
    FROM SoldProducts AS sp
    INNER JOIN Products AS p ON p.ProductId = sp.ProductId
INNER JOIN ProductTypes AS pt ON pt.ProductTypeId = p.ProductTypeId
    WHERE (pt.ProductCode = @ProductCode) AND (sp.ProductSoldTimeStamp >= @StartDate) AND (sp.ProductSoldTimeStamp <= @EndDate)
Query doesn't move forward from this step.
    Thanks in adavance.

  • WebService Socket Timeout Exception before reaching timeout duration

    Hi
My Server is Websphere Application Server 6.0.2.17
i got some times socket timeout exception before reach timeout duration. and also i have only default websphere settings for web service .
The exception is occurred in 19 seconds after hitting the service . i am not able to get the exact problem . because default timeout time is 300 seconds (i think like that)
    Error Log
2/12/09 11:01:28:323 CET 00000f6a SystemOut O WebService Started --> Begin webservice method invocation (Method Name : getCustomerInfo(String cusID))
2/12/09 11:01:47:840 CET 00000f6d SystemOut Exception Occurred : java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Socket operation timed out before it could be completed
WebService Method Invocation Started time 11:01:28
WebService Timeout exception raised time 11:01:47

    Hi Mark,
with synchronous messages it is important to consider timeouts from each connection to be established. So soapUI-PI, then PI-BackendSystem plus anything that might be in between. If your timeout soapUI-PI is smaller than the following ones, you'll get that phenomenon. soapUI will cut the connection, but PI will hold it and maybe receive an answer from the backend. This answer will end up in the void, since the original requester (your soapUI) has already disconnected. But for PI, this will be OK and status "successful". PI does not control and monitor the client's connection.
In other words, the cancel of the connection is only performed for that same connection, it is not propagated to any subsequent connections.
Hope that I was clear enough,
    Jörg

  • Does a timeout exception will occur before every StuckThread Exception ?

    Hi,
What is the difference between weblogic.transaction.internal.TimedOutException and Stuck Thread exception.
I found the following definitions for both the exceptions.
              Stuck Thread exception :
WebLogic Server diagnoses a thread as stuck if it is continually working (not idle) for a set period of time. You can tune a server's thread detection behavior by changing the length of time before a thread is diagnosed as stuck, and by changing the frequency with which the server checks for stuck threads. (http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/perform/WLSTuning.html#1125714)
              Timeout Seconds:
The transaction timeout in seconds. If the transaction is still in the "active" state after this time (counting from begin()), it is automatically rolled back. Once the transaction moves on to the prepared state, however, this timeout parameter does not apply; the transaction is retried until all the resources are committed.(http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/domain_domain_config_jta.html)
What is this "active" and "prepared" state ?
And by default, the timeout-seconds is 30 seconds and StuckThread-seconds is 600 seconds. Does that mean that a timeout exception will occur before every StuckThread exception.
It will be great if anyone can explain me this in detail.
              Thanks a lot in advance,
              Sudhir

    Hi,
yes you're timedOut will occur before you're Stuck Thread alert.
For information stuck thread don't throw Exception: just an error log like:
              ####<7 avr. 2006 18 h 20 CEST> <Error> <WebLogicServer> <nemausac> <ProdCoreManagedServer1> <weblogic.health.CoreHealthMonitor> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <BEA-000337> <ExecuteThread: '20' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default' has been busy for "1 114" seconds working on the request "cofidis.fwk.batch.EjbTraitementBatch_vab2xs_EOImpl", which is more than the configured time (StuckThreadMaxTime) of "600" seconds.>
but the thread continue to do process.
Wich time out , you're transaction is rolledback and you're process continue to do his work But you've got an exception at the next access to a ressources managed in the transaction (sql queyr or try to commit....)
The transaction is in active state after the begin() and prepared state between the first call (prepared()) in a two phase commit and the second phase (commit()).
              Hope i help you

Since I've installed Mountain Lion, I am having lock up issues with multiple programs. MS Outlook has crashed and I've lost all my folders. HELP?

okay I've finally been able to get tor and all the other programs to work according to my plan the only thing that's still making problems is that iptables doesn't work as I want it to, when I start chromium without proxy settings privoxy doesn't seem to forward the information to polipo.. do I need to add another rule to iptables.rules in order for the program to know it has to reroute the information again or how can I get this to work? and is there any way to run rtorrent with proxy support?
anyway, problem 2 and 3 are still to be solved.
and does anybody know where i can get a good dansguardian blacklist that was not designed for 6 year old children and for which I don't need to subscribe? I'm still getting these partypoker popups -.-
//e: with iptables it's the same thing as described in the first post. https works, http doesnt. I get the output "Invalid header received from client." on http sites. still no idea why though.. (and the https-version of torcheck.xenubite says i'm tor unprotected while starting the browser with iptables)

  • I wanted to keep my locked screen display with the time and date from turning off is that possible

So I enjoy my locked screen display with my chosen picture because it has the time displayed nice and big and its a cool nightlight but the locked screen display/wallpaper/time with date always goes black after 13ish seconds of locking it is there no way to let the locked screen stay on while charging? because it is awesome if it could stay on as a nightlight also so i dont have to press the lock button to see what time because the normal display is ugly am I just being super picky or am I not the only one who agrees or maybe it does exist im just stupid please respond when you can also thanks for reading much appreciated.

Again, there is NO WAY to do what you asked: display the time constantly.
I have a clock app that displays the time constantly on my iPad. I use it as a bedside clock. Many clock apps have the ability to disable autolock just within that app. Whether there is one that lets you pick your own background, I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if there were, based on the number of clock apps out there. While what I'm suggestion is not precisely what the OP asked (display the system lock screen), it seems it might be a possible workaround.

  • Exception with the type CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB occured and was not handled

    Hi Champs,
I am working on an interface which picks up file uploaded in a XI server and process it. The Function module used is a Z function module, developed locally.
I am uploading an tab limited file in XI server and a background job processes the file. The tab limited file contains Payelement Transaction ID as primary key.  And after validation of elements like WBS element, cost center etc the file is posted using BAPI BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST. And all the Payelement Trans Ids are also replicated in a Z table, with there status viz. Success or Error or Warning.
After background job was completed, we found in Tcode SXMB_MONI that the file was in error.
    The error message was :
Error during proxy processing An exception with the type CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB occurred, but was neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING clause The system tried to insert a data record, even though a data record with the same primary key already exists.
But to my dismay, I found that some of the Payelement Trans Ids were posted for a document and are also replicated in my Z table.
From the error it seems that we are inserting a record that is already there in the document. I have checked in for BAPI's input parameter, there is nothing duplicate.
Note: Insertion in Z table is made after the BAPI BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST.
Can you help me out in this issue as it is now getting into veins
    Reagrds,
    Nishant

    Hi,
Even we have faced this kind of issue. In order to solve this just write the following code:
    1) Before inserting records in to Z table, write one select query on that table with primary key fields in where clause. Pass the value that are returned by BAPI BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST to the key field.
    2) If sy-subrc = 4, insert records in Z table else Continue and dont insert records in this table.
    This will solve your problem.
