Intermittent QuickTime ActiveX control crash

I embeded QT ActiveX control into .Net application. I call "axQTControl.QuickTimeInitialize();" when my form is loaded. Then I point QT ActiveX to a URL:
axQTControl.URL = "http://location of my movie clip";
Depending on the network load it either plays the movie or crashes with the following COM exception: "Oops! An error occurred." It is very sensitive to the network conditions: it fails when there are only 2 users hitting the URL. We tested Mac version of our application with 13 simultanious users with no problem. It also never fails if the clip is located on my local drive.
Is there any workaround? Some settings to try? Please help.

  • Error 46: Can't find or load QuickTime ActiveX control

    Have tried many times to download and use QuickTime on my HP Pavillion laptop running Windows 7. Disabled antivirus, firewall, SpySweeper, etc. but to no avail. Uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. Keep getting the same error when attempting to run program. Anyone know what a fix might be? iTunes has also been uninstalled and reinstalled but no help. iTunes seems to work O.K. but many video clips won't work without QuickTime. I would sure appreciate any guidance.

    bgcarl, it's a very interesting post and sorry I couldn't be of more help, but thought I might add this.

    Where ActiveX is a add-on. Is this error happening while using the browser with QuickTime? For example in IE 8 browser if you go to Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level. There are a number of preferences for ActiveX. For some reason the computer cannot find or load the ActiveX control, but what is hindering it??? It's probably something simple we can't find...

  • QuickTime ActiveX Control won't install

    I just downloaded and installed the newest version of QuickTime (QuickTime 7.6 with iTunes for Windows XP or Vista). Using Internet Explorer, I then tried to open a link to a web page that has a QuickTime video file. I get the information bar message asking me to install the ActiveX Control. I click on "Install ActiveX Control", get the I.E. the security warning "Do you want to install QuickTime from Apple Inc", hit the "Install" button, but nothing seems to happen, and the video doesn't come on. I've gone through the steps several times, with no success.

    Your download may have been corrupted in some way. Try Trashing that download an doing another.
    While the download is occurring use the Disk Utility app to "repair" permissions on your drive.

    I thought ActiveX was only used by the plug-in.
    With three other users it seems the app was only installed for the Administrator account. They will have to change the permissions so other users can use the QT Player.
    How? I don't know because I've never had more than one user on my PC computer.

  • Quicktime 7.0+ with Vista = error 46: can't find or load quicktime activex

    For awhile, Quicktime Pro was working on my 32bit Microsoft Vista PC that I built, then sometime around 7.1.5 Internet Explorer would no longer play Quicktime files in my browser. No biggie, but then after 7.1.6 it would not longer load at all. I keep getting Error 46: Can't find or load Quicktime ActiveX control.
    If I try launching Quicktime as the administrator, I still get the Error 46. And it just won't load. Even Sony Vegas Video won't render Quicktime files as that gives me an access violation.
    I managed to find a Quicktime 7.0.1 installer, so I deinstalled 7.1.6 and installed 7.0.1 and all was well again. The program would launch and play Quicktime files and Sony Vegas Video would render Quicktime files again.
    But as soon as I rebooted...Error 46 again...even after downgrading. Something's going on with the permissions and I cant seem to fix it.
    The one shining light with 7.0.1 is if I launch it as an Administrator it will work after rebooting. But only if launching it as an Administrator.
    7.1.6 will not do this. It will error everytime regardless of launching as an admin or not.
    Anyone have any ideas how to solve this? And does anyone know if Apple is working to solve this issue? Hopefully this isn't too limited of a bug, otherwise I might be in for a long wait for a fix.

  • Concurrent  ActiveX control and QTML library access limitations

    I have a .Net app that uses the QuickTime ActiveX control for read-only display of movie files. The app also uses the QTML SDK through an 'unmanaged' library for creating and editing movie files.
    I am finding that, when flattening a large movie through the SDK, the ActiveX control interface is blocked. On completion of the SDK operation, the control's behaviour returns to normal. Note that different movie files are in use for each interface. What are the constraints for using the two interfaces concurrently?
    Thanks,

    Technical Note TN2125 implies that this is expected behaviour:
    "Additionally, QuickTime is completely serialized on Windows only allowing a single thread to call into the QuickTime Library at any one time. If one thread is performing a QuickTime operation, any other thread making a QuickTime API call will block waiting for the previous operation to return."
    It would be useful to know how QuickTime Player does not also have this same restriction, as it is possible to manipulate multiple movies concurrently in Player.

  • QucikTime ActiveX Control in C# application

    Hi,
    Hope someone can help. I am using the QuickTime Active Control within a C# .NET 2.0 application. I have noticed that after the control has been running for a long period of time ( a number of hours) it crashes, bizarly always at the same point within one of the movies. This movie has been played numberous times prior to the crash, so i know that the file is not corrupted.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

  • ActiveX controls and clear_form

    If you use ActiveX controls in forms and issue a clear all from
    the menu, or a clear_form built-in, it will kill any ActiveX
    controls in the Form. Once I set a key_clear trigger to clear my
    master data block and used clear_all_master_details to flush all
    the data blocks in my form, leaving control block alone, my
    ActiveX controls stopped crashing.
    I didn't find this mentioned in the documentation, and thought
    someone might be able to save themselves some aggravation.

    Hi,
    to have pure html controls in jspx, I have one idea, for example for < br > tag this is:
    < br xmlns="" / >
    It works, but I think with activex it's not so simple. I tried :
    ' <object xmlns="" id="ThermalLib" height="0" width="0" classid="clsid:904511D2-5407-4033-8DAD-07B33EC7317E"> '

    Did you solve this problem?
    Mayby somebody know how to launch activex from jspx?

  • ActiveX controls on SAP

    Hi
    I have been reading and looking up on articles regarding the use of activeX controls on a SAP B1 form.  So far, I have been able to display the control.
    But when it comes to manipulate its properties and/or methods, the control throws an error or should i say SAP.  In my case I try to load a PDF document into a viewer (PDF Creator) to achieve manipulation of fields on the pdf.  But so far I cannot accomplish this without any errors.  This occurs intermittently since sometimes it (rarely) it performs the required command.
    I've been reading about wrapping the control other terms such as remoting.  What was the point of SAP giving us an "active X" container if there is no apparent way to communicate with it?  Is there an easy way out to achieve this?
    thanks, cheers

  • The ActiveX control cannot be instatiated --VC++

    When I try to insert any Javabean ActiveX control in VC++ resource dialog(design time).. I get the following error..
    "The ActiveX control cannot be instatiated"..
    If I create it at runtime..It does not get painted..
    if I resize my application my control appears and then disappears
    If I try in Visual basic.. I am able to insert the control
    and run.. but it crashes at the very end..
    Any ideas

    I have also had painting problems when embedding a ActiveX'ed Java bean into
    a VC++ application. I think what we did was a transparent background. For some
    reason the background from the VC++ application painted over the ActiveX'ed bean.
    I cannot remember all the details now, but it was definitely a problem with the background
    from VC++.

  • Spry and Quicktime ActiveX Issue

    I adapted the Spry photo Gallery example to load Quicktimes
    movies from a list of links.
    Works great in Firefox/Safari... but in Internet Explorer it
    seems to knock the ActiveX control out.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Take a look...
    http://pymm.com/reel.html

    Hi
    i had the same problem. My solution is doing a complete
    scripting of the used HTML for the Quicktime plugin (ActiveX). I
    have looked how Apple does it. With this solution you have no alert
    box anymore asking if the ActiveX should be executed, too.
    But it is not easy, because there are some timing problems.
    At first if changed in the HTML file the object, param and
    the embed Tag by this:
    <script language="JavaScript"
    type="text/javascript">qt_xml();</script>
    so i was sure, that the scripting will be done, when the HTML
    is already loaded in the Browser. (First timing problem)
    So we will have a look at the rest of the Javascript, loaded
    at the beginning of the HTML file.
    var sbVideos = new
    Spry.Data.XMLDataSet(sbDetailURL+"&type=videos",
    "results/row");
    var timeOutID = 0
    var curRow = ''
    function qt_xml(){
    timeOutID = window.setInterval('poll_videos()', 1000)
    function poll_videos(){
    curRow = sbVideos.getCurrentRow();
    if (curRow != null){
    window.clearInterval(timeOutID)
    return qt_xml_out(curRow);
    return 0;
    Here you see, that the XML of the dataset may not be loaded,
    when the script is executed. I poll the data but maybe there is a
    smarter soltuion, using the onreadystatechange method of the
    underlying XMLHttpRequest Object. I think Spry gives you an event
    handler for this, but i don't know exactly if and how. When you
    load at first the dataset it can be that the HTML region is not
    loaded and you have a timing problem.
    So anyway, i used the polling mechanism and it works.
    The last thing you need is the scripting of the tags.
    function qt_xml_out(curRow){
    area = loadObj('video_item');
    url = curRow["@video_url"]
    if (url){
    xml = '<object codebase=\'
    http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab\'
    height=\'140\' width=\'160\'
    classid=\'clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B\'>'
    + '<param name=\'cache\' value=\'true\' />'
    + '<param name=\'autoplay\' value=\'false\' />'
    + '<param name=\'controller\' value=\'true\' />'
    + '<param name=\'src\' value=\''+url+'\' />'
    + '<embed '
    + ' src=\''+url+'\''
    + ' pluginspage=\'
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/\''
    + ' type=\'video/quicktime\''
    + ' width=\'150\''
    + ' height=\'140\''
    + ' controller=\'true\''
    + ' autoplay=\'false\''
    + ' cache=\'true\''
    + '>'
    + '</embed></object>';
    }else{
    xml="&nbsp";
    area.innerHTML=xml;
    function loadObj(name){
    theObj=document.all? document.all[name] :
    document.getElementById? document.getElementById(name) : "";
    return theObj;
    Now it works fine on my site.

  • Web browser and script activeX controls and HTML data

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use the Microsoft Web Browser (IWebBrowser2) and Script (IScriptControl) activeX controls in Labview to evaluate and execute HTML script.  If I wire the web browser control's document object to the object input of the Script control's AddObject method, I can then evaluate/execute script such as "document.f.btnI.focus();" and such (in this case corresponding to Google's home page).  However, there are other expressions that include the "window" object that are proving much more difficult to work with.  Although I can browse the document object's parentWindow object via the property browser, if I try to access that object programatically, I get the error "Error -2147467262 occurred at No such interface supported".  I'm wondering how to include the window object for scripting.
    I'm writing a content-oriented web crawler.  I've been writing it with pretty low level TCP functions, handling 301/302 "object moved" and "<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0; url=http://millercountyliberal.com/">" redirections manually.  But there are other automatic script-based redirections like:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!-- window.location="http://www.jrnl.com" -->
    </script>
    that I'm still trying to figure out how to work with.  As you can see, to work with that one manually involves the window object.  The reason that I don't just let the Web Browser object handle the redirections is because that object often throws script errors, downloads embedded graphics and other unnecessary components, can't handle some non-standard redirections, and sometimes annoyingly crashes.  Any help would be appreciated.  A code sample is attached.  The Web Browser control should already exist on your machine if you have Internet Explorer installed.  The script control may need to be registered before it can be used as follows:
    regsvr32 "c:\MyDir\XHTTP.dll"
    Thanks.

    Hi Ted,
    This seems to be a problem with the way you are referencing the ActiveX properties.  I would research a little more on the API for these objects.  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/browser/webbrowser/reference/ifaces/iwebbrowser2/document.asp for an explanation of the IWebBrowser2 Document property.  I am suspicious of where you are typecasting the Document variant into the IHTMLDocument2 object and this is where the error is being thrown.
    A search of this error code on Google shows that this is a generic error from the ActiveX object, and not a LabVIEW error, although it is confusing since LabVIEW uses error codes in this same range.
    Hope this helps!

  • ActiveX control using relative paths

    I've been battling with an Active X control for a while now. Everytime I use a particular active x control inside a VI, it crashes during execution. Labview wasn't giving much of a hint, but after an exhaustive investigation, we determined that the exe must be in the third party vendors bin folder for it to work properly. In other words, the active x control looks for lower level dll's using the executable's relative path. I've successfully got this working by building an exe from Labview and then placing it in the bin folder and executing from there.
    So my question: Is there anyway to get this working correctly in the development evironment? Right now, if I try to run this from the development environment, it looks for the dll's relative to the path of Labview.exe. Is there any setting to make a VI look like it is running from a different location? I know I could continually create builds, but it would be much easier if I could run VIs from the development environment while I develop and debug.

    No, you cannot make a VI "look like it is running from someplace else". The VI isn't what's running - it's the LabVIEW development environment that's running. This sounds like an issue with the ActiveX control that you're using, and not an issue with LabVIEW. Have you tried contacting the publisher of that ActiveX control and asking them why they wrote it that way?
