Internal componets, and another heat issue

Ok, just recently i purchased the 15 inch macbook pro for use at college. I am originally a pc guy, but liked how apple puts together a machine, that is untill i got one.
For starters, my case gets unbearably hot, above the f keys, there is a constant ticking sound, and the fans don't seem to run, ever.
When i start there is this wooshing sound, which i have read is the fans, however it is only from the left side, and it sounds more like a burnt out fan and the brushes are rubbing really bad. Then from left side of the grill i hear a hum, which could be the fan, but it is too loud, and from under the computer it sounds like the hard drive, but it sounds like more rubbing than any hard drive i want. Also, just tonight it started making even louder clicking sounds, like paper in a window fan.
If someone could let me know what is up with my cooling, and why my hard drive sounds like it is going to die.
PS. my processor runs 40C idle, so it is cool, but all the heat is being dissipated through the case, not the heatsink

You have a warranty. Call Apple Care and request a repair. There is nothing anyone can do here to help you.

    Hi Experts,
Can I have two GR/IR accounts - one for internal vendors and another for external vendors?  Please let me know.
    Thank you.
    with regards,
    Muthu Ganapathy.

    Hi Muthu,
GR/IR accounts are not dependent on Vendors, they are dependent on Materials, to be precise on Plant/Valclass.
You can post to 2 different GR/IR accounts if you set up 2 different classes. then it is possible.
For setting up the same. Go to T.code : OBYC, Transaction : WRX.
Here Setup different GR/IR accounts per val.class.
Letme know if you need further info

  • MacBook Pro - Battery and Trackpad Heat Issue

    Hi,
I purchased my MBPro 15-inch in December of 08 (so unibody type). For the last few months, after a couple of hours, the trackpad becomes unusable. You can't "click" and navigating around the screen clicks and unclicks and is general extremely sensitive.
When I remove the battery, it works fine (but you have to keep the power supply connected or it dies instantly). As of this week, when I replace the battery, it goes straight back to the problem. Previously, I would get 15-30 minutes of "normal" usage and then the problem would reassert itself.
Should I just get a new battery? Is this the kind of issue that Apple had previously on non-unibody MBPros and required a mass recall and replace of batteries?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is likely the same issue which resulted in a recall of swollen batteries (Battery Update). Have you carefully checked your battery for any signs of swelling or leaking? If you do have a swollen battery, stop using it immediately and get a replacement. You don't want to risk permanent damage to your Mac.
The battery doesn't even have to be in use. Some time ago, someone posted a picture of a spare battery that had never been in a machine, but which had still swelled up and come apart.
There seems to be some question as to whether this is to be expected of all these batteries, or if it is an indication of a factory defect. For this reason, people have had mixed results trying to get the battery replaced for free from Apple. Generally, if you've been able to get 300 cycles out of your battery, your battery is just considered worn out and your chances of a free replacement are remote. If this happens on a newer battery with fewer cycles, I believe decisions are made on a case by case basis.
I actually hope that swelling is a characteristic of a defective battery and not something expected to happen to all of them. Especially since the new Unibody Macs now have a built-in battery that is not supposed to be user replaceable.
    Good luck!

  • Video and Over heating issues

I have 3 issues to ask about.
o Overheating.-----My laptop gets SUPER hot when playing World of Warcraft. Hot enough that I can not touch the first row of keys on my keyboard, or any part near the video screen.
    o *Video display corruption.*
-----While playing I get huge amounts of artifacts, and if I don't switch from windowed mode or to it when the artifacts show up, the video seems to degrade until it is un-viewable. (Artifacts to me are random triangles that appear between items in game.)
o *Left and Right fans.*-----I have installed a program to help called smcFanControl, and it help a little but doesn't resolve anything. One weirdness with that too is it monitors the left and right fan speed in RPMs and it only registers a right fan speed. Is there a left fan too?

There are indeed left and right fans. You can download a widget from the apple website called iStat Pro that will let you see left and right fan speeds, among other system status features. And yes, I've noticed I run a lot hotter now, perhaps because of the optimization to dual-core. I have smcfancontrol now, but other than setting a minimum fan speed, it doesn't seem very useful.
What are you at? With it sitting on my desk, no ventilation issues, I have 66°C (28°C ambient) with the fans at 3700 RPM
Edit: If you put the menu bar option on, it will show you left and right fan speeds when you click on the menu

    Lindsay,
Your iBookG4 is still a pretty awesome Mac. Like already said, it has the power to run Leopard, but it depends if you have an internal DVD drive.
Then I suppose you have to add up the cost of the OS, perhaps another 512MB RAM, iLife 08 and replacements for any favourite apps that you currently use (Leopard breaks a lot of stuff, but Intel breaks even more). Compare it to the cost of a new MacBook, which wil have all of that included and be 3-4x faster too.
It also depends on what you want to achieve with your iBook. My PMG4 still cuts it today, I still use it in preference to my new Mac Pro, It's about the same age as your iBook, and I'll only stop using it when it becomes "painfully" slow. My 1 year old son currently uses the Mac Pro (parts for a Mac Pro are easier to replace than those for a PMG4).
I think your choice is simple, if you can a cheap copy of Tiger, use that, it'll get your iPod Touch up and running. It came in DVD and 4 CD version (by request).
Leopard will work for you too but a lot of the best eye-candy requires quite a meaty graphics card and you may need a RAM upgrade and replacement software - OS9 Classic is not supported in Leopard.

You're not asking any question so I'll just ramble.
You may have permanently damaged your iPad.  The iPad controls the current coming from the charger but the charger electronics must be capable of responding to the iPad.  Charge with a known good charger and then test your iPad.  If it's OK, you lucked out.  Otherwise...  If the charger was not an Apple charger, you're completely out of luck.  If it was an Apple charger, call Apple and discuss the issue with them.

  • IQ826t Restart and Heating Issue

One thing I definitely do not like the HP's support especially when they will not allow us to buy a 7 Upgrade from Vista nor will they support something (even when I find their glitches and they admit after telling me it was just the OS).. On Repair work, I had to ship it out and this will be my 2-3 time to do repair on this PC in the past 3 years (and I have to wait a week for the repair to be done...)
    Besides that, IQ826t, Win 7 Ultimate SP1
All Drivers are up to date with HP website (utilizing Win 7 64 bit drivers and Firmware is up to date). AVG update/scan (no issue - confirmed even rootkit).. Malwarebyte - Scan and no issue
Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmentation done on a monthly and quarterly schedule
    Biggest Issue:
I am getting a crash with Win 7 0x124 Stop Error Message (happens periodically and even after a reboot)
Never had this issue until May and the upgrade to Win 7 was done last year with SP1 update done on March (so it is not an issue with the OS as HP support personnel seems to think... I proved them the issue with Windows Update History, The  Bluescreen error code on my error code reader)..  This machine under warranty and I had issues with it constant (even in Vista)
They state that it is the OS.. Again, if that was the case, I would think it would happen right away like my Toshiba on SP1 upgrade... That was not the case in the matter.  I have a firmware reset (default settings) and the issue persist..
The Error Code relates always HAL.dll or ntoskrnl.exe
One if hardware compatiblity and the other is an OS kernel exe file.. And this usually checking knowledge base relates to hardware failing due to 1) Compatibility (which HP website confirms is not the case) 2) OS corruption (which is not the case checking on safe mode and this happening STILL 3) Heat Issue (which I believe is the issue and was been documented on the Internet
What I am noticing is the unit is extremely HOT (vent is almost burning when it has been off and just turned on).. I wonder if the hardware pieces are literally melting to destruction since I can't just open it up (they state it will void my warranty)
The Symptoms before the Crash (happens any time.. Even right after a power up)
If you are playing audio or video, you will start to hear jitters and sound seems to echo itself .. Video would start to lag and become choppy..  Systems start to slow down and things seem to run very slow.. I have seen the power light on the PC start on but the touchscreen just go black (will not restart sometimes)..
Minor Issues (but could be related)
    1) When running PC Hardware Diagnostic, they will come up with an error code in the past and that was warranted for a motherboard replacement (of course, they ship the box to the wrong location and I was in the middle of my wedding so I get to it now).. It was pertaining to PCI Express Status ICH9 PCI Express Root Port  where it will generate an error code... Now, running the diagnostic... I will not get any error but PCI Express Root Port 3 & 5 do not show up on the diagnostic... Wouldn't that obvious show something that is a problem when there are 6 ports (which on the previous diagnostic that I can't grab past logs shows that). That is not warranted for a warranty work? Just a note, I got the fail test code (which was intermittent but keep happening and the tech support would not look at previous case.. Port 4 failed and a fatal device code)
    2) Blu-Ray player will not run and their answer is that it is your Blu-Ray until they realize that I ran it on 3 different Blu-Ray player standalone, different Blu-Ray, and confirm DVD will work.. They still think it is a software issue until they can't deny my point when it will not read the Blu-Ray no matter what (they took control and confirmed it).. They believe the HP SmartDVD software was failing because of Win 7 and not Vista (even when I downgrade and confirm it works, I stated the software is the issue...  Lone and behold, 2 months later they had an update that they refuse to admit I was RIGHT on the matter and done 15 hours of troubleshooting that they were wrong about)
    3) Wireless Keyboard and Mouse lost connectivity even if the battery is not low... Just stop typing or omit letters.. This is considering the keyboard is literally in front of the touchscreen
    4) Touchscreen is sensitive when it wants to be but won't in other... Constant issues there
This is why I have so much issue with support.. They seem to show that they will do anything to deny the issue.. Heck, I am a computer technian calling on the issue.. It ain't like I didn't troubleshoot on the matter... But they think we are all morons and when I prove them wrong, they will use any excuse to honor warranty... That is why it is amazing..

Look in your Settings > App Manager.
    Tap Device Monitor.
    Tap the Battery tab.
At the upper right, tap "Since Last Charge" to change to "Last 48 Hours".
What apps or processes are consuming the most battery power?

  • Internal DNS server and NAT routing issue.

Hi -- I am not terribly experienced with DNS and I am running into an issue that I can't seem to resolve. My company.com DNS information is hosted by an outside ISP for email, web, etc... but I have configured an A record there to point to the public IP to my mac os x server (server.company.com).
We have a cisco router configured with one to one NAT from the public IP to the internal IP for our server in a 192.168.15.x subnet. The same router is running DHCP and and NAT on that subnet under a different public IP provided by our ISP.
Our server is running DNS with recursion and has a "company.private" zone set up for internal services and machine names. Thus, the server is accessible via "server.company.com" from the outside and "server.company.private" from the private LAN.
The problem is that I would like to be able to access some services simply via "server.company.com" both inside and outside the private network. Now, accessing the "server.company.com" services from the private lan does not work because the name resolves to the external IP and the external IP cannot be used internally due to NAT.
Is there a way to configure my internal DNS server to respond with the appropriate private address when receiving a query only to "server.company.com" and forward requests on for anything else on "company.com"?
I know that I could manually duplicate all entries for our domain from my ISP and host the same entries for internal clients, but it would be much easier to only have our server handle requests for itself. The server is running OS X Server 10.4.11.
    Thanks

Is there a way to configure my internal DNS server to respond with the appropriate private address when receiving a query only to "server.company.com" and forward requests on for anything else on "company.com"?
Ordinarily, no. Once your server thinks it is responsible for a zone (e.g. company.com) then it will answer all queries for that domain and never pass them upstream. Therefore you'd have to replicate all the zone data, including all the public records, and maintain them both.
The one possible exception to this (I haven't tried) is to create a zone for server.company.com that has your internal address. In theory (like I said, I haven't tried this), the server should respond to 'server.company.com' lookups with its own zone data and defer all other lookups (including other company.com names since they're not in a zone it controls). Might be worth trying.

  • Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
    - Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
    - Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
    - Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
    - Graphics and video support:
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
    Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see  any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

  • 5s battery & heating issue (ios 8.1.3)!!!!!!!

i just bought 5s and updated it to ios 8.1.3, my maximum battery life is 4 and half hours of continues usage (just downloading apps and browsing and chat and no games), is that normal??

    Hi Bebars100,
The resource below will provide information and tips to maximize the battery performance of your iPhone.  If you follow these suggestions and still have issues with your new iPhone, it may require service.
Apple - Batteries - Maximizing Performance
    https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/
“Battery life” is the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged. “Battery lifespan” is the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced. Maximize both and you’ll get the most out of your Apple devices
Your device is designed to perform well in a wide range of temperatures, with 62° to
72° F (16° to 22° C) as the ideal comfort zone. It’s especially important to avoid exposing your device to temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C), which can permanently damage battery capacity. That is, your battery won’t power your device as long on a given charge. Charging the device in high temperatures can damage it further. Even storing a battery in a hot environment can damage it irreversibly. When using your device in a very cold environment, you may notice a decrease in battery life, but this condition is temporary. Once the battery’s temperature returns to its normal operating range, its performance will return to normal as well.
    iPhone, iPad, and iPod work best at 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C). Storage temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C).
    MacBook works best at 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C). Storage temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C).
Charging your device when it’s inside certain styles of cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your device gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.
If you want to store your device long term, two key factors will affect the overall health of your battery: the environmental temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it’s powered down for storage. Therefore, we recommend the following:
Do not fully charge or fully discharge your device’s battery — charge it to around 50%. If you store a device when its battery is fully discharged, the battery could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding a charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may lose some capacity, leading to shorter battery life.
Power down the device to avoid additional battery use.
    Place your device in a cool, moisture-free environment that’s less than 90° F (32° C).
If you plan to store your device for longer than six months, charge it to 50% every six months.
Depending on how long you store your device, it may be in a low-battery state when you remove it from long-term storage. After it’s removed from storage, it may require 20 minutes of charging with the original adapter before you can use it.
There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life — no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi-Fi.
Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life.
To dim, swipe up from the bottom of any screen to open Control Center and drag the Brightness slider to the left.
Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically. To activate it, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and set Auto-Brightness to On.
When you use your device to access data, a Wi-Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network — so keep Wi-Fi on at all times. There are two ways to turn on Wi-Fi:
Swipe up to open Control Center, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and log in to a Wi-Fi network.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi to access a Wi-Fi network.
iOS 8 is designed to be the most battery-efficient iOS ever. And it gives you more precise ways to manage your device’s battery life, because you can see the proportion of your battery used by each app (unless the device is charging). To view your usage, go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage.
Here are the messages you may see listed below the apps you’ve been using:
Background Activity. This indicates that the battery was used by the app while it was in the background — that is, while you were using another app
To improve battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and set the switch to Off.
If the Mail app lists Background Activity, you can choose to fetch data manually or increase the fetch interval. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.
Location and Background Location. This indicates that the app is using location services.
You can optimize your battery life by turning off Location Services for the app. Turn off in Settings > Privacy > Location Services.
In Location Services, you can see each app listed with its permission setting. Apps that recently used location services have an indicator next to the on/off switch.
Home & Lock Screen. This indicates that the Home screen or Lock screen was displayed on your device. For example, the display was awakened by pressing the Home button or by a notification.
If an app frequently wakes your display with notifications, you can turn off push notifications for the app in Settings > Notifications. Tap App and set Allow Notifications to Off.
