International input on Linux

Hello,
I have a problem with flash player on linux. It's working
great except that it's impossible to enter text in any encoding
other than latin. It can display unicode text but when you try to
enter text in greek it is displayed in weird characters. The funny
thing is that if you copy-paste greek text from some editor it
works!
Does someone know any way or has seen any working example of
international input on linux?
Thanks in advance,
Kostas

  • Adding unicode fonts to Preferences International Input Menu

Does anyone know how to add unicode fonts to Preferences>International>Input Menu? I can figure out how to install fonts, but I can't get them to show up in this menu..
The first two fonts are Hangul and Kotoeri.

You would think I could highlight the letters 'anurvpow', go up to the U.S. flag and change it to Greek Polytonic, and it would change 'anurvpow' to 'ανθρωπος', but it doesn't. It stays 'anurvpow'. Any idea how to convert words typed in one keyboard to another?
You can't. When you switch a keyboard you are not changing fonts, you are using the same keys to type different codes into the document. You would need some kind of custom program to change the codes, and I have never seen any.
(Bonus question: Show Keyboard Viewer - how do I make the keyboard larger? It's tiny!)
At the upper left there are three little dots. Mouse over them and hit the green one.
    Of possible use:

I'm getting a core dump after calling athe main statric method using JNNI.

I see yere points but what I see on linux is it makes it to the constructor of the Java object and somewhere afterwards it bails out, the Java app does work alone. It appears to have problems initializing the JFrame, could there be a problem with the Java inheritance when a JVM is invoked throurgh native invocation??

  • Characters Errors In International English Keyboard - Linux

    Hello
I speak spanish as my natal language, but I use an American english keyboard in my laptop, that's why I use the International English keyboard set (U.S. English w/ deadkeys) to be able for me to write the spanish characters (,,,,,,), but when I write them in any text field I just see squares ().
I write in other text programs and everything goes fine...
I use Linux Kanotix 2005-3, with JVM 1.5.0_04-b05.
    Thanks.
    DiegoWarrior!

It was because the OS locals didn't include the spanish locals...
I Installed them and the problem was gone...
    Bye!

  • English Input Method dissapeared from International Input Menu

    Hi all,
Some input method sudenly dissapeared from Input Menu in International pane, English among them.
Now I have problems with my keyboard because I have to use a Polish Input method and I donąt know how to add English again,
Has any body else had this problem and know how to solve it?
    Thanks.

Yes, English is missing from System Preferences/Internantional.
I don't know how to add it there again, neither how it dissapeared.

  • International Input Menu

I am trying to pull in a multi-language Word document into InDesign.
It pulls in from Word and Text Edit with pink boxes.
I also tried typing in the characters myself. I went to International and checked the language on (Russian), then went to the flag in the top bar and chose Russian. I opened the keyboard viewer and chose Times New Roman as the font I wanted. The keyboard viewer shows the characters I want in Russian, but when I actually start typing I get pink boxes. The only font I can get to work is Times, but I can't use True Type for this project.
Why do the characters appear but I only get pink boxes?
Is this an InDesign or Mac thing, or the 2 interacting?

There is some sort of bug with the keyboard
    switching
    unfortunately.
To bad Do you think anyone has filed a bug
    report?
Yes. I have. Apple suggested to close it when Tiger came out, but I showed them evidence that the problem still existed.
My favourite remedy is to disable the keyboards
    one
by one in System Preferences > International and
    then
to enable them again. You don't even have to close
    the System Preferences.
Try it. It is done quickly and doesn't hurt.
Does not seem to help in my case, ufortunately... Any
other ideas? Also, do you happen to know where
exactly the International config is stored? I'm
thinking that perhaps I can at least trick it to have
only one input source enabled if I edit "by hand".
I wouldn't recommend editing things by hand, unless you create a special test account to experiment on. However, the easiest way to tell in which file(s) preferences are saved is to open ~/Library/Preferences in a list view and order by date. Make a modification to your preferences, and you will see the newest one pop up to the top (or bottom) of the list almost instantaneously.

  • Items are not displaying in internal catalog after Linux and COA change

    Navigate to iProcurement Responsibility
1.Select "ITAM" catalog and enter % to serach ITAM field and click on "Go" button.
2.And it is returing "No results found. " messgae.
Recently Moved from HP-UX to Linux x86-64. also changed the COA segments
    Can you please help

Bernd: the reason I asked about views is that you don't have any error messages. This might indicate that (a) you have no items in the view, or (b) there's something wrong with view-role-user assignment.
To check for (a), please go to the published procurement catalog, and go to Views tab. Check that your View is Active. Click on your View ID link to display view details. You should see a list of characteristics assigned to your view in Assign Characteristics sub-tab (the list should not be blank!). Go to Assign Items sub-tab. Navigate in your schema to find items that are supposed to be assigned to your view. You should see "Yes" in the "Assigned" column for those products. If you don't, then you simply don't have any items in your view.
Another thing I'd like you to check: when the user calls your procurement catalog for search, do you see the name of the catalog displayed just below the drop-down "Select Categories Hierarchically"?
    Cheers,
    Serguei

  • International input menu annoyingly changes itself

I regularly use two languages: English and Italian. I have the input menu (the little flag up there in the right-hand corner of the menubar) so that I can switch between the two languages whenever I want.
Unfortunately Leopard has decided that it is going to make that decision, on its own whim, and keeps changing to the wrong language without telling me, at seemingly random times when the mood takes it.
    Any suggestions?

Could you be accidentally hitting Command along with the space bar occasionally? That is a shortcut for different languages.

  • [SOLVED] Xorg and input devices

    Hello everyone,
since last upgrade (including, let's say, about one week changes) or trying to add users to tty group the input devices (mouse and keyboard) stopped working under X. I mean I run kdm and pointer and keyboard are frozen. The problem lies in hal, because when I add to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Configured"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "false"
    EndSection
the devices work, but it isn't the solution (for example special keyboard keys don't work).
All /etc/hal/fdi/ directories are empty. I tried to remove /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache, but with no success.

  • Keyboard Viewer does not appear in menu bar input menu...help with 10.4.9

When I click on the flag in my menu bar, I have two options (Show/Hide Input Source Name and Open International Preferences). Is there any way to test the special characters on my keyboard if there is no keyboard viewer or keycaps application? Thanks very much.
2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi.
Go to System Preferences/International/Input Menu and tick On Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer.
Next time you click on the menu bar flag, you'll see "Show Character Palette" and "Show Keyboard Viewer"

  • International setting changes to US

I have set my international preferences to Australia and the Australian flag shows in the menu bar. Once in a while the setting changes to US and the US flag is displayed. I have been unable track down when or why this is happening.

Go to system prefs/international/input menu and make sure the box for US is not checked.

  • Allow a different input source for each document

I just received my new MBP and am really happy about it. I'm a switcher so apologies in advance if this question is silly...
I use both Swedish and English keyboard maps. I can switch between them using a shortcut which is fine. However, in the International settings I thought "Allow a different input source for each document" would mean that the input source I use for a specific application will be used as long as the application is running and I don't change it, no matter what source I use in other applications.
For example: I have the English input source as default. Then I open text edit and change the source to Swedish and start typing. So far so good. I then change to another application...
Ok, it seemed that I might be able to answer this myself... as I test I noticed the following:
If I start typing using a source in an application THEN the source is retained. If I just switch to an application, change its source the source is NOT retained and will take the previous one.
Now this is all and well as long as the application you are using actually presents you with a text area to write in. But there are many applications where this is not the case (where you open windows to type text). A really good example is an IM client. Lets say Skype for example (yes I know.. iChat). Until I actually start a chat there is no text input window (well there is one..) which means that it will pick up whatever source was used previously. If I keep all the chat windows open thats fine but as soon as I reopen a windows I might be forced to change the source again
I hope I haven't overcomplicated my question which is simply what to expect when "Allow a different input source for each document" is used (I know it doesn't say "application" there and that might actually be a hint
    Many Thanks for any comments

It's not a silly question, but I don't think there is an answer either, as it's not clear exactly what that setting is supposed to do, or if it actually does something consistently for various different kinds of apps.
If you have not already done so, check the box for "show input menu in Finder" in system prefs/international/input menu, so you can see which layout is active at the top right of the Finder.

  • Audigy Player: Strange problem w/ internal inp

    Hello everybody!
Since I'm running WinXP Pro I've encountered a really strange problem with my internal inputs. I have a DVB-s card connected and cannot hear any sound. Currently I have to use the external output of the DVB-card and the external Line In of the Audigy - quite sloppy! The thing is, all worked fine using Win98. And - I can record sound from DVB but not listen to it simultaneously! This works (...) for all internal inputs, ie. CD, TAD, etc. I tried almost every driver I could get my hands on, but it didn't help.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Word input language change?

how do i change the input language to something else besides english like to french or something? is there any way to do this?
    2 GHz MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

how do i change the input language to something else
besides english like to french or something? is there
    any way to do this?
In OS X, if you want to use a French keyboard layout, go to system preferences/international/input menu and check the box for French, plus the box for "show input menu in finder." Then select French in the "flag" menu at the top right of the finder and type away.
To see which key does what, use Keyboard Viewer, activated just like a keyboard layout.
However, you don't need to do this to type French, Spanish, German, etc., because the US keyboard layout can also do it. Here is a list of how to make accented letters:

  • Best way to input Apple Maps destination by voice?

I just got Siri Eyes Free integration added to my car, so I am switching from Waze and Google Maps to Apple Maps so I can enter desitinations by voice by simply hitting  button in the steeting wheel.  However, so far I am very disappointed with Apple Maps.
Using the Apple Maps to enter an address by voice has been very frustrating and unreliable.
I have had Apple Maps send me to the wrong desitnation twice in the last week. I think I have figured out "why," but the "reason" is still not really an excuse that justifies the problem.
I asked Siri for "Directions to Walmart in (city name)."  Siri responds with something like "I found a Walmart near (city name) on Green Street.  Is that the one you want?"  The Walmart was indeeed on that street, so I said. "Yes."
Siri then said something roughly equivalent to "Routing to 123 Main Street."
That makes no sense, It just said it found Walmart on Green Street.  It proceded to give directions to a desitination on the other side of town on "Main Street.".
Today I asked for directions to a Comcast office and had the same expirience of it routing to a different address then the location of the business I asked for..
I figured out that both times Apple Maps was routing me to the town center  of each town instead of the specific place I originally asked for.
To "work around" this issue I found that I could rephrase the request in a more convulted way and it would get me to the correct directions.
I tried asking Siri to "Find Walmart in (city name)" and then Siri found it asked if I want to call it or get directions.  I said "Get directions" and then Apple Maps actually routed to the correct destination instead of the city center.
This needs to be fixed. It is clearly a bug.  The first time it happened I didn't notice it had said a different street name in the second response than it said when it asked "is that the one you want?" so I ended up driving several miles out of the way.  The workaround I found to bypass the issue is alot of unecessary work especially if you have to pick from a list of several possible locatons.
Is there a more relaible and short way to make Apple Maps give correct directions to a place of business when it is entered via voice command?
The second problem I had was when I submitted a residentual street address by voice.  This is is even more frustrating because it keeps trying to route to addresses in cities hundreds of miles a way.
I will ask for directions to a street address in a neighboring town and Apple Maps will say it is going to route to an address with similar street name in a city that is no where near where I am instead of the street that is in the neighboring city.  Sometimes it will get it after repeating the command a second or a third or a fouth time.
Sometimes it will work if I say the zip code instead of the city name and sometimes that doesn't work and it will say it can't find that street name in the city that belongs to that zip code, but the exact same command will work once I am within the city limits of that city.  This also needs to improve.
Is there a specific way or format of entering street addresses and limiting it to the closest cities that contain streets with that name (or similar sounding street names) so that it does't try to route to a similar street name far away when there is also the same street name 5 or 10 miles from my current location?

It would be nice if I could find something that
    would
allow me create utf-8 Vietnamese characters directly
    from my keyboard
Go to system preferences/international/input menu. Check the box for Vietnamese, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder." Plus the box for Keyboard Viewer. Then select the Vietnamese item in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder. Open TextEdit or other Unicode app (not AppleWorks or WordX) and type.
Please let me know if some part of this does not work for you.
PS To see which key does what, select Keyboard Viewer in the "flag" menu.
PSS In case you are talking about inputting Vietnamese into web forums, you will need to use FireFox instead of Safari. Some such forums are (stupidly) run in Latin-1 instead of UTF-8, which means all input has to be in the form of html escape codes (numerical character references). FireFox does this but Safari does not.
