Internet configuration

Hello,
I'm using Mac OS X 10.9.3 with an iMac and I can't open any webpage using any browser. The only page I can access is www.facebook.com. I tried several pages with Safari, Chrome and Firefox and none opened, both via cable and wi-fi. Facebook opened with all browsers. I have other devices connected to the same network (the iPad I'm using to write this post and an iPhone) and all of them are working ok and open all webpages I tried to open with my mac.
I tried to ping some pages. For example, I opened the Terminal and typed ping www.apple.com. The result was:
"64 bytes from 23.57.141.15: icmp_seq=1170 ttl=55 time=44.519 ms"
The page is responding to ping. However, trying to open www.apple.com with Safari gives me a blank page. Firefox says (translating from portuguese to English): "Restarted Connection. Connection with server was restarted during page loading."
My network configuration is:
IPv4 using DHCP
IP address: 192.168.1.3 (cable) and 192.168.1.4 (wi-fi)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1
DNS server: 192.168.1.1 (I also tried 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (from Google) but result was the same)
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Ok, Iffelzmann, I'm willing to do some troubleshooting with you but you must be willing to perhaps repeat some steps that you feel are un needed or futile.
Begin by turning off wi-fi and only connecting to ethernet.
Please confirm the topology of the network:
Computer via CAT5 to Router; Router via CAT5 to modem; modem via Coaxil to wall etc etc
Once you've done this we can move forward.

  • Solaris in Logical Partition and Internet Configuration

    Hi !
I'm really passionate about this unix-solaris thing.
But these nudges are pulling me back from installing it actually in my hard drive.
And also there is the Internet configuration problem.
    Problem:1
    I have 2 IDE HDD.
    Primary HDD: 80 GB
    VolumeName-Type-Size
    SystemBoot-Primary/Active/NTFS-100 MB
    Extended Partition:
    VISTA-Logical/NTFS-20 GB
    2008-Logical/NTFS-10 GB
    Data-Logical/NTFS-25 GB
    Music-Logical/NTFS-9.42 GB
Solaris-Logical/BLANK-10GB .....Blank = No FS. Used Acronis DD10 for it.
    Slave HDD: 40 GB
    Extended Partition:
    XP-Logical/NTFS-10GB
    Fedora9-Logical/ext3-10GB
    SWAP-Logical/SWAP-2GB
    OpenSUSE103-Logical/ext3-15.25 GB
When I came to HDD configuration stage of installation,
    I selected the pre-selected c0d0(bootdisk) ---Primary HDD/80GB.
But when I proceeded further it showed me:
Warning The initial fdisk information found on the disk
c0d0 was invalid. Defaulting the entire disk to a Solaris partition.
    So I aborted the installation.
I tried one more time, by changing the Solaris Blank logical drive to a primary partition.
    But it didn't work.
Now I think Solaris 10 cannot be installed in a logical drive or more broadly speaking(assuming) it cannot be installed in HDD having logical drives,it should be all primary partitions.
    Please help me on this.
I'm sick of installing it in VMWare.
    Problem: 2
How am I supposed to configure my network connection.
I connect to my ISP using WAN Miniport(PPPOE).
    It allots me dynamic IP(v4).
I read somewhere DNS should f.root-servers.net and in a magazine, a.solaris.net
I never came across such a thing in even in linux.
    Problem: 3
If there is not so feasible solution to problem 1, VMWare Workstation comes into play.
And here too, I need help for configuration of network connection.
These are the values that I got when I installed Windows XP in the VMWare.

  • "Internet Configuration Leased" -- every 30 minutes??

That's right. I took a look at my Time Capsule's logs (should be the same as those of the AEBS), and there's a line like this just about every 30 minutes:
    May 29 20:15:53 Severity:5 Internet Configuration leased -- host <67.198.108.106/255.255.248.0> gateway <67.198.111.254> dns <66.90.132.162 66.90.130.10> wins lease <3600> domain <grandenetworks.net>
Seems excessive (and the host IP is the same every time). Is the lease figure "3600" in seconds? Even so, it shouldn't be happening every 30 minutes, should it?

After many hours on the phone with my ISP and two repair visits, no change in the DHCP lease. However, I was reading reviews of my ISP on dslreports.com and found a rep who was responding to complaints and giving his email address. I emailed him, and he put me in touch with someone who acknowledged the problem and reconfigured the DHCP server.

    3 things you will need to do;
1- Read the install. manual well
2- check if you have a full qualified host name ex. server. your domain.com

I am having trouble with the "SIMYO" iPhone 4 internet configuration.. I've been trying to do the configuration 10-15 times now and still, it doesn't work. Anybody could help me please!!

I don't see SIMYO anywhere on the list of supported carriers: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
Unless you're talking about a carrier on this list, you're going to have to work it out with them. It's possible their network is just not compatible. They are definitely not a supported carrier.

  • E2500 Internet Configuration

    Good Day
I'm having trouble properly configuring this Router.
Let me explain the current network setup at our office.
We've got a FritzBox which supplies internet access and is directly connected to our Fileserver, there is an isolated connection between the FritzBox and the Server machine with an IP of 192.168.0.5
The server provides a gateway with an IP of 10.7.0.1.
It has no DHCP server functionality, machines that connect need a static IP of 10.7.0.x and the gateway/DNS address set to the server's IP
I have the E2500 configured as such: Router IP 10.7.0.2
                                                                        Gateway   10.7.0.1
                                                                        DNS          10.7.0.1
(Bridge mode at the time of writing)
My big question is,is it possible to configure the router to behave as a DHCP server for WLAN/LAN while using the server as  Gateway/DNS ?
tl:dr :Want new clients connecting to the E2500 to automatically receive IP starting from 10.7.0.3 with gateway and DNS being 10.7.0.1
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i get what you're saying. you want the Linksys to distribute IP's via DHCP, but not use the NAT to translate the IP to a different segment, hence still using the 10.7.0.x IP range so that everything is technically on the same network. am I correct?
my take: it is technically possible, but there's a possibility that the Internet will not work/traverse through, or you'll have an IP conflict. Note that once you use the EA2500's Internet port, you're already performing NAT.

  • [SOLVED] Internet configuration: dynamic IP problems

    Hello Arch Linux community,
After usage of Ubuntu, I decided to move to Arch Linux because of its highly-customizable and flexible operating system. To learn first the installation process, I created a virtual OS in Oracle VM VirtualBox. The installation went well till I encountered the network configuration step. It should be noted that the internet worked fine in terminal when it was not installed and it was used from a disk image. Therefore, my installation ended here and I cannot progress. Tried many ways found on Arch's wiki and googled, but still no Internet found in the Arch Linux.
Firstly, I have a dynamic IP. Judging from ipconfig /all command in Windows cmd at least, since it says that DHCP is enabled. What is interesting is that I found that VirtualBox internet connection does not have it enabled in cmd. However, in the program it says that it is enabled. By googling I managed to turn it on and now it can be seen in cmd that it is on. But it did not fix my problem. When trying to write ping -c 3 www.google.com or ping -c 3 8.8.8.8, I get an error saying that it did not find the host, which according to Wiki means that I cannot establish an Internet connection.
By following this wikipedia section to configure a dynamic IP address, I managed to get rid off certain errors, but the Internet is still not reachable.
    Errors
    When I write dhcpcd eth0, I get:
dhcpcd[223]: dhcpcd already running on pid 217 (/run/dhcpcd-eth0.pid)
When I write systemctl start dhcpcd@eth0, I do not get anything.
When I write systemctl enable dhcpcd@eth0, I do not get anything.
    When I write ping -c 3 www.google.com, I get:
    ping: unknown host www.google.com
    When I write ping -c 3 8.8.8.8, I get:
    PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.23 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.23 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.1.23 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
    --- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
    3 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 2002ms pipe 3
During the installation, I encountered problems with my firewall. Using Eset Smart Security, which is both an antivirus and a firewall. I had gotten a notification from my firewall that it is blocking some kind of IP. Then, I turned the firewall off and the installation went well. However, this does not work when I try to ping in the installed Arch Linux. I do not get any notifications from the firewall both when it is on and off.
    System
Arch Linux is installed on HDD, however, I have also a SSD, but it is used by Windows 7.
When I write uname -a, I get this:
    Linux localhost 3.6.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Nov 5 11:57:22 CET 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Windows information:
    Windows 7 Ultimate

    Memory RAM: 4.00 GB

And an old Seagate HDD 500GB on which Arch Linux is installed.

Yes (3 packets sent, 1 lost, 2 received).

The porpouse is just to discard virtualbox as source of problem
I can access the Internet when I boot the live CD. However, I am not sure what you do mean saying to boot live cd without VB (it is probably, because you think the Internet is down also when the live CD is booted?).
It struck my mind that the provided Internet is controlled by a MAC address by my ISP. Wrote ipconfig /all to find out VB's internet connection, and added a second physical address to the list of MAC addresses on my ISP website. Did not help.

  • Internet configuration process

am setting up my ipod touch gen 2.  it appears i have a wi-fi connection to my ISP, but can't get on internet.  do i need to contact my ISP provider and set up configuration settings?

I downloaded the RCU 11.1.1.6 patch (13517109) and it ran fine this way (after a drop/create on the OID schemas).
Obviously running the {Middleware_Home}/Oracle_IDM1/bin/rcu file isn't the way to do it. I'll pay closer attention next time....
    Thanks for your help.

  • MY NOKIA 2626 INTERNET CONFIGURATION

My old Nokia 2626 is giving me headache. Though it had been worked upon many times by local repairers. Whenever I press the configuration submenu to check the internet setting, the phone will go off momentarily and power on after some seconds by itself. Also whenever I want to use the phone for internet browsing it will inform me that there is no packet data even when the packet data was set at 'Always on' and the G sign shows on the screen. The internet setting was sent to the phone by my network provider.

Each time when you insert the sim, the phone gets internet settings from service provider and they get added up every time.
In configuration menu goto default configuration and go on deleting all settings except the one you need.
Later when you press preferred acces point, due to only 2 or 3 access points, the phone wont restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • Touching Messing Up Computer Internet Configurations?

I recently received a 2G 8MB iPod Touch and am still trying to work out the bugs. Initially I couldn't figure out how to access the internet, and I tried manually entering my PPP info but that didn't work. A friend with an iPhone told me that that information should have transferred automatically, so I did some exploring in iTunes and saw the section that popped up under Applications (I think) when the Touch was connected. Using that I synced my internet info, my Safari bookmarks, and my address book.
However, since then, when I get bumped off the internet on my computer (which often happens on my rural phone lines - all I can get here is dialup) I have a hard time logging back on. I keep getting the message that another application has changed my settings. Initially I needed to agree to having the PPP password on my keychain apply all the time, and that got me back on (I was using the diagnostic feature under PPP in System Preferences/Network.) But it still changed my preferences so that it prompted me about whether I wanted to remain logged on after 30 minutes, and also disconnected after ten minutes of inactivity. I have changed those things back several times, but it keeps switching them on again. I am still having problems with them and I occasionally still can't log on. I get to "connecting" but can't move on to "authenticating..." Diagnostics usually gets me back, somehow, but last time it said it couldn't help. I cancelled and managed to log on.
I have gone back in under iTunes with the Touch connected and unchecked the sync boxes for all the features that would sync automatically. I already have my music set to sync manually. I also restarted my computer once I reset my PPP configuration and locked it against changes, and I still couldn't get on without the help of the Diagnostics feature under Network. This is seriously irritating. Any idea what's going on?

I can't figure out how to edit a post. The subject should read "Touch" rather than "Touching."

  • 7200- Best OS Configuration/ Internet Configuration

    Hi all,
I have a PPC 7200/90 that i just restored and i am trying to optimise to its best prefrormance level. This machine is my Classic gameing workstation for all my favorite system 7 games that dont run on the OS X ubermac ( extremly upgraded G3 266). I mainly run games like Wolfenstine (best game ever) and Lemmings. I also use it for clarisworks, and i am trying to get it up on the internet for AOL Instant Messager. First of all i want to get the best System 7 OS for it loaded on there. The Current Version is 7.6. Should i upgrade to 7.6.1?, or go to 7.5? My current specs on it are: 90 mhz PPC 601 Processor, 128 MB of Ram, 4 gig HDD, Radius PCI Video Card with a Radius Precision Color/17 Display, 8x External SCSI CD Burner, and a 28 to 32kbps US Robotics Mac & Fax dial up modem. I am having trouble getting it on the internet though, i plugged in th dial-up name and password and phone # int PPP and Remote Access, and tryed connecting from both. the both connect to it and stay online. But when i open any internet application ( I Explorer, AOL IM, Claris Email) they all say to cheack connection settings, or that i am not connected. I've tryed configuring all the settings, and the control panels(PPP, Remote Access, TCP/IP) and no internet applications will load any web content. Is there anything i can do to get this issue resolved?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Patrick,
For my favorite older optimization, OS 8.1 with IE 5.1 wins every time. The 7200/90 i configured for my daughter to take to college years ago has that setup and is still going strong. It sits beside our mini for all the OS 7 and 8 tasks and has not complained about a dead PRAM battery for three years.
    Jim
Make that 4 years. Time flies while kids are off to college. The first G3 in the basement is faster at handling graphics than the 7200 but that is about the only difference. ( It has not had a PRAM battery since 2001 and surfs the web with that same configuration at 52K. The mini running OS 10.43 clocks in at 48K.)
