Internet Connect icon

Hi , Can anyone tell me where my Internet Connect icon has gone since i loaded Leopard ? I now have to go through System preferences. Thanks in advance.
Tim.

I sympathize. I have a Novatel U727 (a wireless 3G device) from Sprint that plugs in to the USB port and acts as a modem, which means you have to dig around in System Preferences every time you want to connect/disconnect. It shouldn't have to be so hard.
In your modem settings in the network preferences you can tick the box to show modem status in the menu bar. You can then connect/disconnect using the menubar icon so you dont have to dig around in the network preferences.

A system restore will not do it, you would have to do a full system
    REPAIR.
If you copy Just the keys above and past them into notepad and save them to your desktop as any name you want, just make sure they have a *.reg extension, then double click on them and the keys will be added to your regristry.  There are two keys above
    so make two *.reg files.
    This will make one file:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}]
    @="Network Connections Tray"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}\DefaultIcon]
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}\InProcServer32]
    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\NETSHELL.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="Both"
This will make the other file:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}]
    @="Network Connections Tray"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}\DefaultIcon]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}\InProcServer32]
    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\NETSHELL.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="Both"
When the key's have been added to your registry you must reboot for them to take effect.
Remember, these keys are for XP, do not know about other OS's

  • Cannot find Internet Connect Icon

    I am using Leopard 10.5.4.
I want to setup a VPN connection and found an article which describes how to go about setting the VPN connection. But it uses Internet Connect icon and according to the article it is found in the 'Applications' folder. I cannot find the 'Internet Connect' icon in Applications.
    Please can someone help ?

Internet Connect has (thankfully) been removed from Leopard. You can now set up a VPN with the Network Preferences. Click on the + icon below the list of network services to get a window with popup menu that has VPN as one of the interface choices.

  • I am missing the internet connection icon under my systems.  How do I get it back?

I am missing the internet connection icon under my systems.  How do I get it back?  I am trying to eliminate an unvalid gmail account and add my new gmail account for work.  It exists already so I don't want to create one.  I can't get my computer to switch from the unvalid account.  Per YouTube I need this application to set up Safari to switch between accounts.   Help please!

If you are on a Mac, you can connect to a network either using WiFI or an Ethernet cable. These are both available under System Preferences.
What are you referencing as 'Internet' connection?

  • Lose Internet Connection

I thought that my new $29 Apple keyboard caused my MBP to lose the Internet connection. Not.
I have since discovered that I lose the connection every time I shut down (or start up). I have since put Internet Connection icon in my taks bar, so I can reconnect every time I start up.
I am using a Netgear wireless router. Any suggestion as to what I can do to keep the connection? I don't think having to reconnect every single time is common.

Ginny, there are a number of threads over in the networking forum in the MacBook area on this topic. This seems to be a common issue on Intel Macs, and there are some workarounds. I've just been reconnecting when I boot up or move locations, and I'll wait for a fix.

  • Another Internet Connect damaged or incomplete

I had this message it occured when I tried Apple care to solve a problem, I was unable to get Dsl working and as they were working through it they had me double clik on Internet Connect up came "Internet Coonect is damaged or incomplete". They sugested reinstalling Mac X ( I did not like that thought).
I have a MacPro for a little over a year useing 10.4.9 with a dialup connection as you can imagine it is slow. When hooking up Dsl from the same company I had a problem hooking up a Speedstream 5260, was useing Ethernet 1 got message "the cable for Ethernet 1 is not plugged in" and somewhere in there I also got "could not find PPPoe server". I first asked the Isp if they could help and all setups seemed to be correct. I had Bell come in and lines are all good. I then took modem over to Isp and hooked up a laptop (Xp) used my id and it worked fine.
I did as was suggested by Niel to Freek earlierand used Pacifist for first time seemed like a life saver, the icon at least changed from an Application icon to the Internet Connection icon Ver.1.4.3. I have got to the second stage and not quite sure, the original disk is 10.4.7, I have saved a download of 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 ("MacOsxUpd10.4.9Intel.pkg") the combo's were a bit too long for dialup, do I just double click on "pkg" and cross my heart.
I also am experiencing lots of hangups on dialup for last few days,3 just writing this.
    Thanks in advance

I have been up on dialup for 7 mins+ a record for the last few days with the header compression checked I think that is solved thanks. On question #1 I found an update to Internet connect on 10.4.8 only and have updated system with it. Will check out if works out with Dsl in next couple of days.
Thanks again I will have a few more questions I'm sure but it's a learning curve.

  • Connection icon

My internet connection icon shows a letter "o". I've seen E, 3G and the WiFi symbol there but never an o. Anyone know what this means?

It is GPRS and is covered in the manual with all the other icons:

    Hi
I am experiencing wireless connection problem on 4s after ios 8.1 upgrade. The wireless icon appears showing that it's connected but webpages do not load. I have checked my internet connection with other devices and seems to be alright. what to do?
I have tried reseting the network settings and forgetting my wireless connection and re-connecting to it. I even backed up my phone on itunes and restored it, factory reseted it. Nothing seems to work.
Also after my upgrade to ios 8.1 my personal hotspot option under cellular data has disappeared.
Would you please help me out? I would really appreciate it.

    Hi..
Restart your router then restart the iPhone to test.
If that doesn't help, try this support article >   iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • WR110 and Windows 7 + Im connected to Internet but Icon in system tray shows red X

    Hi all,
I just upgraded both my notebook and Desktop, both of which are wireless.  The Notebook connected just fine, and the system tray shows connection bars.  However my destktop is also connected, but it shows the red x.   Not sure what I need to do to stay connected and have Wireless strength bars reappear.  When I click the connection it says " The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements for the network".  Also when I click on the red X in the system tray, the connections pop up, and I see the green bars and it says connected, but a few seconds later it goes to the red X, but Im still connected to the internet.  I have ATT DSL and they recently bridged the router to the DSL modem using PPPoe, but that was before I upgraded both PCs to 7 and I did not have this issue prior to upgrading.

    Quack,
I gave that a try, and changed my SSID.  On my notebook, it of course lost the Internet connection, I saw the new wireless network, and typed in the PW and it connected without issue.  However the DT which is where I am having the issue, is still doing the same thing.  I am connected to Internet as that is where Im typing this email from, but the 5 bars in the lower are still show that X even tho Im connected.  It does say the Security types do not
match, so I would go in and change to WPA Personal, TKIP, and type in the password, but still nothing.  I have noticed that when I enable and disable my Wireless adapter in the Desktop, 2 icons come back, one for the adapter, and one called. Microsoft Virtual WiFI miniport adapter, which I have disabled, but it does not make any diff if its enabled or not.

  • Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

    this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.
Justin said it's a network bug in Leopard.

    Ok, I'm stupid.
Found another thread about this and typing 'install OS X Lion' in spotlight did the job.

  • Remove 802.1X icon from Internet Connect menu?

Is it possible to remove the 802.1X icon from the Internet Connect menu?
When you open Internet Connect, you will have a window with couple icons on the top: Summary, Bluetooth, Airport, VPM, etc. Is it possible to remove the icon 802.1X?
I've tried command drag it, which does make it disappear, but when you quit Internet Connect and opens it again, that icon will re-appear.
Does anyone know the trick to remove this icon?

    Hi Kuo,
This icon doesn't show up at all on either of my macs. Further, I don't seem to be able to add or remove any of the icons that appear in Internet Connect.
It sounds like it might be something added by third-party hardware or software. I say that because 802.1x is the same connection protocol used by Airport. The only difference is that Airport is an Apple trademark. Do you use a third-party wireless card? Or have you done so in the past?
