Internet Disconnecting after Mac sleeps?

Hi, my family connects to one wifi network that starts at a Time capsule, but we use an AirPort Express to extend the network connection to my iMac, but recently every time I sleep, shutdown, restart, etc. my computer, I can't connect to the wifi network.
Then, when I go to connect, I get a dialogue to type in the network password (which is normal). However, when I type in the password and click "Join," it tells me the that the connection failed, BUT i get connected anyway.
I know it seems complicated, so I'll put a picture up
I guess all I really need help with is to get it to remember me. please help! thanks!

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Keyboard disconnect after Mac sleeps

When I wake my Mac after it's been asleep, I am presented with the login screen. Normally, I type my password and login. But since a couple of weeks ago, my bluetooth keyboard doesn't work anymore. I have to hard poweroff the Mac, and then during startup, they keyboard works normally. The Mac is just dropping the keyboard... what gives?

Thanks for replying.  To clarify a few details you asked about:
The Airport Express (v. 7.6.4) is connected via the Ethernet 1 port to a Power Mac running OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks). The AP Express is in "Join a wireless network" mode, and it connects to a LAN consisting of a cable modem/router, and a few devices such as a "smart TV." There is no Apple Wireless router involved. The cable modem/router assigns IP addresses to all devices, with no apparent problem except for the Ethernet port/Airport Express.
I tried the Network Prefs option "Configure iPv4 Using DHCP with manual address" but that didn't change anything. I've also tried setting the Mac to "never sleep" mode, but that made no difference either. I don't know exactly what you mean by a static IP, but right now I'm trying ""Configure iPv4 Manually."
I don't know anything about "sleep" settings for an Ethernet port, but I'll study your macrumors link to see what I can learn.
Any other suggestions - much appreciated!

  • Mac Wi-Fi disconnects after in sleep mode or shut down

Whenever I shut down or sleep my iMac and log back in, the Wi-Fi is not connected.  In Network Preferences, it states that the Mac has a self-assigned IP.  When I complete Network Diagnostics two or three times, the Wi-Fi will connect.  I am connected to Verizon and have an iMac Late 2012 OS 10.8.2.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).

  • Network disconnects after Mac mini is running for several hours but a reboot fixes it

i have updated my Mac mini to Yosemite but now it has a networking problem after running for several hours . Trying to open a webpage in Safari or chrome doesn't work, the remote site appears to disconnect.  Mail is not downloaded and email already downloaded has no images when I display them.  Interestingly DNS resolution is working nslookup finds the IP but telnet to a web site on port 80 gets an instant disconnect.
THe connection ion is wired into a hub and the ISP connection is fine from the other computers on our home network.
I am now rather perplexed how to fix this without constantly rebooting the Mac which just goes against the grain.

  • APC "ups" loses comm after Mac sleeps.

I have installed a brand new UPS made by APC. Back-UPS RS 1500G. It was installed yesterday, said it had a 100% charge according to the icon in the menu bar. Today, just before work of course, it went through it's first power outage. I was out of power for 1.5 to 2 hours. During which time the menu bar never changed from 100% and I never got the warning "Your computer is now on UPS. Back up any work and shut down soon." or whatever it says exactly. So I unplugged the USB, waited a minute and plugged it back in. Now it's telling me to save my work and shut down soon, blah blah blah. And it's at 95% charge. it went all the way down to 70% charge while I was on it and what not. Then the power came back on. So i saw it move up about 84% charge. I left for work, thus the Mac went to sleep at my schedule time of 15 minutes after idle.
After 11 hours, come back from work. Wake up the Mac and it's still at 84% charge. Unplug the USB, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Bam, it's now at 100%.
Any one else having the same problem? If so, I'll report it to Apple.
    KOT

APC's software was not installed.  That said, I uninstalled apcagent and rebooted.  Results were the same: Energy Saver doesn't detect the UPS.
An earlier thread on this topic hints that this may very well be a Yosemite software bug:  Yosemite doesn't detect my UPS
A user reports that a clean reinstall of Yosemite did not fix their problem.

  • No signal after mac sleeps

Yes, cryptic subject line, but I couldn't summarize the issue.
I'm using Logic Pro and at times I have to put the mac to sleep. On waking, Logic Pro fails to 'see' any signal, even though both Audio prefs in Logic and Sound prefs in Preferences are set to my A/D converter.
So I have to restart the mac to get it working again (and, no, repairing permissions doesn't fix the issue), which is highly inconvenient and ergonomically contentious.
    Please advise.

    How about just restarting coreaudio?
Open Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Devices>Coreaudio, change a buffer setting, change it back, now the Apply button becomes available. Click it, or simply dismiss the window. Either action will restart coreaudio within Logic, so (hopefully) no need to reboot.
BTW, the sleep function has always been iffy on Macs, the first time it ever worked for me without disrupting anything was on a Hackintosh... on Macs it often seems to screw up attached peripherals (disks, audio interfaces, MIDI controllers).

  • Slow or NO internet connectivity after Mac OS 10.5.6 update

    Hello,
I have a regular home network, i am using a 2WIRE modem, to connect to my internet. Ever since i installed this update, my internet has been running very slow, i have tried using different browsers, and i also contacted my ISP.
This is becoming really frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Noah

    Hi Noah,
Is your connection slow, or is web browsing slow? I would try downloading a file from a prominent website. if the download goes quickly, but web browsing remains slow, that will help pinpoint the problem.
i recently had a very slow time browsing myself. each web browser i tried, safari, firefox, opera, would take a long time to "Contacting..." or "Looking up..." in the status bar. If this is what you're experiencing, you may want to look into your DNS settings. Use the following link and add the 208... DNS to your airport settings:

  • WAG120N - Frequent Internet Disconnection Issue

I have bought a Linksys WAG120N few days back & after i got it , i also updated it to the newest firmware from the Linksys site. The Firmware version for my product is , 1.00.12 Annex A.
But i am getting a  frequent internet disconnection after installing the Router/Modem.I am not a newbie in this.I have done my CCNP with full marks & currently working in IBM India & i have enough knowledge on how to configure Routers.
I have done the Flashing in the correct process & after Flashing , i did a 30-30-30 Reset as explained in this forum somewhere but the issue is still existing.
I am listing below what i have done so far. :-
    1) After getting the Router , i have updated to the newest firmware & Hard-Resetted the Router as explained in this forum.
    2) Then i configured the modem with the values from my ISP.I have done it both manually & also tried the Linksys Setup wizard that came on the CD with the Product and the SETUP WIZARD HAS MY ISP ON THE LIST as well.
    3) I got the net connected after configuring but only for some time. After that , i am constantly getting disconnected from the Internet no matter what if i use the Wired or the Wireless devices to access the Internet.I tried setting the Router with both  wireless Security enabled & disabled. No luck in either cases.Almost all of the time i get a disconnection when the DSL Link is Steady on the WAG120N.So, this should not be a Line problem. Also i can access the Net with my ISP provided Modem. No problems at all.
    4) I tried uninstalling the Anti-Virus & the Internet Security program i use which is Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010.No luck.
    5) I have Formatted & did a Clean Install of Windows 7 X64 & Windows XP SP3 & tried running the Router on a freshly installed operating system with no other software installed.I tried different Machines , Different Operating Systems , Different Lan Ports. No luck.
    6) I deactivated Windows default Firewall & every Power Saving functions of my OS.No luck.
    7) Linksys suggested me to visit the Service Center & get a replacement.I did visit the Linksys Authorized Service Center & got a new WAG120N & brought that to my home.I had to pay around 20 USD Taxi Fare as the Service Center is at the remotest part of my city.I wish if Linksys had a Pick-Up & Drop facility which nearly every big companies offer in my place.
    8) The new WAG120N did not change anything. The disconnection issue is still existing.
    9) There is absolutely NO problem in my ADSL line.I am using a 512kbps ADSL connection & when i use the CHEAPEST Wi-Fi ADSL Modem which has been given  by my ISP , i can access Internet just fine , no problems at all either in Wired or the Wireless. So, in this case The Linksys ADSL Router is at fault.
    10) I can see the ADSL line Stats with my 20 USD worth of Huawei ( ISP provided ) Modem but the 150 USD worth of Cisco/Linksys WAG120N does not support showing the ADSL Line stats ( or at least the Firmware doesn't support it ) which is unbelievable for a company of caliber like Cisco.
The two most important things every Modem at least should display are :-
    1 ) SNR Margin
    2 ) Attenuation
These two are absolutely a Must-Have features if you want to see how good your ADSL connection is & i am surprised to see that my cheapest ISP modem does have these but a Cisco product does not. !!!!!!!!
I have called the Linksys support again & they told me that they are Escalating  my case to their 2nd Level.
I got a response from their Level 2 Support Person & he asked me to provide information about my case & i had sent him a reply 2 days ago but no reply from him.
And I am NOT the only person with this problem.I do not know Linksys knows this or not but there are several Linksys users who are using this model & are facing the exact same issues as me.
Here are some of them & they have been posted on this community itself :-
    1) http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Cable-and-DSL/Wag120n-problem/td-p/300397
    2) http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Cable-and-DSL/WAG120N-keeps-disconnected-from-internet/m-p/330870/...
Tell me Sir , what should i do ? Should i sell it & get another brand or Linksys is going to help me to resolve the problem ? I am extremely sorry to say that i feel regretted that i invested my hard earned money into this which just does not want to work at all.I am too much frustrated & not going to buy any Cisco product if my problem does not get solved because i can not bother the disconnection problem as i need to stay connected all the time for my job & also for my personal reasons. It is a shame that i had to pack my Linksys up on the shelves & have to use the cheapest quality Chinese ( No offense ) Modem because at least the connection does not drop here & I can use it for what it is meant to be.
I will be expecting a quick reply from you people & would also hope that you will be able to solve the problem. Also i think the problem is not the Router but the Firmware itself is faulty but i am not sure about that because this is my first Cisco product & frankly speaking I am very much disappointed with it.I would very much like to experience a Cisco product because i thought it is an World Class product in the business. So, please help me resolve this problem.Either Linksys should help me resolve the problem and get me an working product or i would want to get my money back.Thank You.
(Mod note: Edited for guideline compliance.)

Yes but I think Linksys should give me another one which is working right ? Why should i invest in another Router as i just bought it & its already too pricey here.
I need an ADSL Wi-Fi Modem Router & there is only three models avilable here. One is this one which i'm using , WAG120N & the other two are  WAG160N & WAG320N & both of them costs more than triple than that of WAG120N.And no one is going to give me a replacement here.I can get the replacement but the same Router.I can not upgrade it without having to buy a whole new router which costs thrice than my current one.
So, i would be highly oblized if Linksys can give me a replacement because only they can replace it with another model but Linksys India customer Care is only suggesting me that they can issue a replacement for the same model & can not give any other model.
I sent my concern to the 2nd Level Technicians but have not received any reply.Feeling helpless at the moment.
My posts are edited & most important parts are being deleted. Please do not edit my post. All i am wanting to get a suggestion for my problem.I do not want to bother you with my problems but the communities are meant mainly for that purpose so that we can help & support each other.
    Thank you.

  • All USB drives disconnect after upgrade and clean install of MAC OS X Mavericks

I first upgraded to Mavericks and noticed that my external USB dries would disconnect after MBP Retina Mid 2012 model was updated to Mavericks.  These worked fine in all versions of Mac OS X before upgrade.  So I did a clean install figured my machine would benifit from this anyway. This did NOT fix the problem.
Wouldn't be much of an issue but I use this macine as a media server with Plex and all the media is in one of the external USB 3.0 drives.  All drives are from Seagate, and have found no info there.  Guessing this is a bug that Apple needs to fix unless its a Seagate issue which I doubt.

If the tracks are recognized by your iPod (playable), search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your Mac.
If they're just on your iPod as data, then I'm not certain since I don't use a custom hierarchy, but you should be able to copy the folder back to your iTunes Music folder, turn off the "copy to iTunes library when adding to library" preference, and then use the Add To LIbrary command to get them recognized by iTunes. Again, though, I don't use a custom hierarchy, so you might want to ask that question as a new post, just to get additional opinions.
BTW, an iPod is not a reliable backup for your tracks. Too many situations can arise that would cause your iPod to need to be erased. I strongly recommend that you make backups, particularly of any tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace, to CD, DVD, external hard drive, or other medium.

  • My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep, and only rebooting machine makes it come back.

My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep time, always overnight, and pushing buttons, replacing batteries, etc. doesn't wake it up again.  I have to reboot the machine, sometimes losing data, in order to make it work again.  I am kinda new to mac, so hopefully I am just missing something easy.

  • Lost Internet sharing after sleep

I share my mac mini´s internet conection (ethernet) to other computer (ibook) using Airport.I do set a password for it using WEP. It all work fine. But if I put the mac mini to sleep and then wake it up, the shared internet stops working. If I try to connect from the Ibook it says that the password is incorrect. If I set up the connection without a password it would work fine even after a sleep time. So something gets corrupt with the WEP password after the mac minis wakes up, I guess...
My second problem after wake up my mac mini is that my USB keyboard(non apple) get corrupt with some keys. So I have to unplug it and plug it again and then will work fine again.
Those two problems start just after I did a "security update" with the Apple software update.
    Thanks.

  • I can't be the only one with this issue. MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013 WiFi disconnects after waking up from sleep.

Did anyone buy a MacBook Pro Retina 13" from Best Buy this Black Friday?
I'm having an issue where the WiFi disconnects after the MacBook wakes from sleep but only after a couple of minutes.
Once the WiFi disconnects, I can't reconnect to the same network and sometimes it won't find nearby networks.
I have to turn off the WiFi and wait for at least 5 seconds before turning it back on for it to auto-reconnect to my home network.
If I wait less than 5 seconds, it will continue to attempt connection to the home network but won't connect.
I've tried reformatting and deleting my network configurations as well as resetting my modem, power cycling it, etc.
    I am using 2Wire Gateway modem/router from AT&T on b/g network.
I've tried connecting to a friend's network under Time Warner Cable and the same issue occurs.
I exchanged the MacBook at a Best Buy for a brand unopened one (I hope) and the same exact thing happens with this new one.
Really, I can't be the only one with this issue. Unless in a 0.00001% chance I received two defective units in a row?
Please.. does anyone have a clue why this is happening?

You're definitely not the only one.  I have the same issue.  I spent 6 hours over multiple days on the phone with Apple support trying a variety of things (some of which are mentioned above), and none of them worked.  They finally sent me a replacement laptop.  I made sure to try it periodicaly as I was moving files and installing applications to see if I ran into it again and things seemed okay at first but now I am running into the same issue and it is terribly annoying.  I've got 5 other devices that connect to the same router and I've never had this issue with any of them.
My router is a Linksys E2000.  I haven't tried changing the router channel but I have tried to cnnecting to other networks in the building I live in and I have run into the same issue there.

Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

    You could try the following:
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

  • Help! After interrupting an installation of a program downloaded from the internet on my mac in a reboot cycle will not start, I've already done the disk check and it's ok and I reinstalled the OS 10.8 Lion

After interrupting an installation of a program downloaded from the internet on my mac in a reboot cycle will not start, I've already done the disk check and it's ok and I reinstalled the OS 10.8 Lion

In this case, I think that there's something damaged that can't be fixed just reinstalling OS X.
If you don't want to lose files, you will have to create a second partition in the hard drive and install OS X there, so you will be able to recover everything you need. Then, you will have to erase the first partition and reinstall OS X. Follow these steps:
    1. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
    2. You can follow the steps of this site to create a second partition > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html
    3. After creating the second partition, close Disk Utility and install OS X on the second partition.
    4. When the installation finishes, open Finder and, in the sidebar, you will see the other partition. Open it and recover the files you need.
    5. After doing that, repeat the step 1.
    6. Select “Macintosh HD” in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    7. Close Disk Utility and install OS X on the first partition.
After doing all of these steps (you will need a lot of time to do this), you can delete the second partition you created and add the size of this partition into the first one > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU4.html
