Internet Explorer 8 FadeIn/Fade Out issues

I am curious about how people are dealing with the upcoming
release of IE8.
My understanding is that they are changing the way they deal
with opacity (after at first deciding to drop it altogether), which
would require updating scripts and/or stylesheets on existing sites
that use opacity to render images, or even the translucent
backgrounds that have become prevalent. BTW, this affects any DHTML
scripts that do FadeIn/FadeOut. I expect that most will not work
with IE8 without a code change or without adding the following meta
tag:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7">
They've changed the CSS rule from the non standard "filter"
CSS property to the non-standard "-ms-filter" CSS property.
I notice that in DW CS4, the filter property is present, but
not the -ms-filter property in the extensions section of the CSS
dialog.
Anyway, I am wondering why I haven't heard more hubbub about
this. If you are using FadeIn/FadeOut scripts, are you
1. Updating your sites to support IE8
2. Updating your sites to apply the META tag so that it runs
in IE7 compatibility mode?
3. Ignoring the problem and hoping it (or MS) will go away?
Or am I worried about nothing?

When you go to the login page or log out it removes (or attempts to)
any previous cookies and recreates new cookies.  I have been having a
problem with Internet Explorer 8 where it seems to be returning
something to my site that Coldfusion can't handle.  I get
java.lang.nullPointerException.  The error messages say the error
occurs either at line -1, with no idea what tag is involved, or line 6,
which is in the middle of my cfapplication tag.  The diagnostics line
is always null other than the line number.  From that, though, the
error seems to occur before my cfapplication tag even runs.
That suggests to me that the previous cookie is removed, but no new cookie is being created. The null would therefore refer to the non-existent cookie object. One way out might be to create new cookies without attempting to remove previous ones.

    On Wednesday 6th August 2014, we announced that as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a more secure browser, starting September 9th Internet Explorer will block out-of-date ActiveX controls. (Note: The original post stated that the ActiveX blocking
    would begin on August 12th. Please refer to the addendum for further details).
    Please take a look at this important update via the

    Hello,
    There seems to be an entry missing in the
    versionlist.xml file.
    There is an entry missing for wsdetect.dll (isInstalled Class ActiveX Control) from Java 1.7, I believe (there is an entry for 1.6, 1.5, 1.4 but 1.7 is missing).
    Here is the relevant portion of the XML file:
    <blocklistentry key="{5852f5ed-8bf4-11d4-a245-0080c6f74284}" entrytype="2">
    <versionentries numberofelements="4">
    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM) 1.6.0_81" filename="wsdetect.dll" productversion="6.0.810.0-6.65535.65535.65535" fileversion="6.0.810.0-6.65535.65535.65535" />
    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM) 1.5.0_71" filename="JavaWebStart.dll" productversion="5.0.710.0-5.65535.65535.65535" fileversion="5.0.710.0-5.65535.65535.65535" />
    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM) 1.4.2_43" filename="JavaWebStart.dll" productversion="1.4.2.430-1.4.65535.65535.65535" fileversion="1.4.2.430-1.4.65535.65535.65535" />
    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM)" filename="*" productversion="*" fileversion="*" />
    </versionentries>
    This causes the alert prompt to appear when using Java 1.7 update 67 even though it's allowed by XML.
    To reproduce, please go to a site that uses wsdetect.dll like Wikipedia (like here
    http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Example.ogg) and check if the prompt appears for you.

  • Strange:1 Firefox vs. Internet Explorer about Input Text Issue

    After a long break, hi everyone,
    Here's the case:
    1-We have a full flash site hosted on a php+asp mixed web
    server.
    2-Site is in English and also in Turkish.
    3-We have a mail form on "Contact" page.
    4-We have 5 input texts which are all has these attributes:
    Arial Tur (Exists in Turkish XP SP2 PRO's as default)
    Render Text as Html=checked,
    Character Embedding=Basic Latin + Latin 1 + Latin Extended A
    5-We have a "Send" button, has action:
    loadVariables("phpmailer/iletisim.php", this, "POST");
    6-We have a html index, published within Flash CS3, beginning
    with:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0
    Transitional//EN">
    <head>
    <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html;
    charset=utf-8">
    7-IExplorer:7.0.5730.13, Firefox:2.0.0.10,Flash:CS^(Flash9,
    AS2)
    Here are the problems:
    1-When i open the file with internet explorer i can not input
    some Turkish characters, but not all of them. When i copy these
    characers from notepad and paste, i can see all of them. Firefox
    has no problem until here.
    2-But for both browsers when i send the form with turkish
    characters, i get a messed up mail with unusual characters. I
    checked out the sendmail.php (a generic name) file, it mails
    turkish characters just fine.
    Thanks a lot.
    See you on the next chapter of "Strange Things Happening to
    me ,I Hope I'm not Alone."

    I found the solution.
    in publish settings, if "transparent windowless" option
    selected some of non-western characters can not be shown in dynamic
    or input text boxes.
    This is a Flash Player 9 bug.
    Select "opack windowless" or "window" or use one of older
    flash player versions.
    Many thanks to you, adobe, for your interest.

People have stated that this energy has helped  them either physical,mental or in emotional ways. God/universe decides  what the person needs to be healed and usually this happens in one  session. FYI, we have tested and confirmed that the BrowserLab rendering of your page for IE7 is accurate. I'm glad that BrowserLab was able to help you find the issue with your page, but we on the BrowserLab team don't have the bandwidth to be able to help out with the HTML/CSS issues our users find in their pages.
    Hopefullly another user on these forums will be able to help. You might also try cross-posting your question to an appropriate Dreamweaver forum ( http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver ).

    When I take my headphones out while playing music the music continues playing through the iPhone speakers before shutting off a sec later. Is this an issue with my iPhone? Is it because fading out is on and if so is there a way to turn it off?
    This is annoying when I'm in a meeting, I take my headphones out and all of a sudden Taylor Swift mysteriously starts playing from my phone.

    aha. If you synch your phone it delete all music but next time if you delet it manually by phone it transfers the music and next sync it will delete all music again, right? When I have had that trouble I just have to disable iTunes match and delete the music manually if it's not do automatically. Then I could sync it and the music will load and remaining on the phone, also for further syncs.

  • Javascript menu issues in Internet Explorer 7

    Ever since Internet Explorer 7 came out I have suddenly been
    having issues with javascript menus on a couple sites. The menus
    work fine in Safari, Firefox (Mac & PC), as well as past
    versions of Internet Explorer. The issue is with any item in the
    menu that contains a hyphen - somehow the hyphen is being
    misinterpreted by IE7. Either all text after the hyphen is not
    visible (happened on one site), or it is interpreted as a line
    break and all text after the hyphen gets knocked down to a second
    line.
    Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a workaround for
    it?
    Thanks!
    janice

    Solution found and tested. It works! You'll need to make a
    minor change to the MM_Menu.js file. Click on this link to find out
    more, on my file it was line 136 that needed to be changed:

  • Double extension stripped out in Internet Explorer?

    Hi all,
    I was just browsing through some Oracle 9i jsp related demo pages, when I came across this situation:
    a sample code page with a double extension, exampletag.tld.txt, that should just display the source code, results instead in a internet explorer parsing error :
    "The XML page cannot be displayed, bla bla bla".
    Another page with extension .jsp.txt gets executed as if ".txt" wasn't there at all.
    It looks like Internet Explorer is stripping out the rightmost extension and is trying to interpret the page.
    I guess this could potentially lead to some security risk, if you can run some code out of a plain text document!
    I checked this out with IE 5.5SP2 and IE6.0 SP1 and they behave the same.
    On the contrary Mozilla 1.5 correctly outputs the page as plain text.
    Also, I've checked the mime type configuration in Apache and it's apparently serving text/plain as expected.
    As I've recently installed MSXML3 SP4 on both machines, I am wondering if this fact is correlated in some way.
    Bye,
    Flavio

    Must be my promote-Mozilla-Firebird-week :-)
    When installing the Live HTTP Headers extension in Mozilla Firebird you can easily see what the real content type is that the server sends to the browser. Regardless of any extension, the server can tell the browser to interpret any URL just the way the server likes -- like even a URL with a JPG extension could be handled as HTML by the browser, just if the server tells it to. And a URL that ends in .cflav could easily yield an image in the morning and an XML document in the evening. So: there actually is no such thing as extension when it comes to URLs.
    And to make things more complicated: the browser starts a request by telling the server what it can handle, and as such the server might decide to serve different content (or content types) to different browsers.
    I've checked the mime type configuration in Apache ...well, Apache is not serving the JSP files, is it? Might very well be that Apache passes handling of certain virtual folders to the JSP engine, which then can decide to parse .txt files as well.
    So: check out Firebird to get a jump start in your investigation!
    Arjan.

  • FDF file opening in Internet Explorer--not in Adobe Acrobat Professional XI

    Good morning!
    I have created a form in Acrobat Professional XI and have a submit button that emails that data back as an .fdf file.  This is working as it should.
    However, on some of the returned emails, the .fdf file is opening in Internet Explorer--not in the associated file in  Acrobat Professional XI.
    Is this the default?  Is there a way that I can specify that it always opens in Acrobat?
    I looked on line, and found where you have to associate that type of file with Acrobat
    I have Windows XP
    in My Computer--in Tools, Folder Options, File Types, I have where FDF files are associated with Adobe Acrobat.
    Are there other changes that need to be made?
    We have a work-around--we can import the file data into the form--just takes a little longer.
    I tested this before I posted the form online, and it worked perfect.  Now that it is online, we are seeing some snags...
    As always--Thank you for your help!

    Thank you for your quick response!
    no--it is an fdf file.  Has an .fdf extension.
    One difference that I have noticed that the file that is opening correctly (in acrobat) was sent from a gmail account.  The file that is opening in internet explorer was filled out in Adobe Reader XI from an outlook email.
    This is the window that appears when the file is opened.
    On the Tools--the only items that are accessible from this screen is the AddOnTools--not all the tools sets.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Here's an article from Microsoft on how to uninstall IE9.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/how-do-i-install-or-uninstall-internet-explorer-9
    To uninstall Internet Explorer
    If you're trying to uninstall Internet Explorer because of an issue with the browser, first check to see if a solution is listed in Internet Explorer 9 Help and How-to.
    The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
    Click the Start button , type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.
    Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
    Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
    Click one of the following:
    Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).
    Restart later

  • Failed to register ONLY in Internet Explorer ...

    The last two versions of Adobe Flash REFUSES to register and install in Internet Explorer, but has NO issues in Chrome or Firefox.  What is going on with it, and how can I get it to install in IE?  Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. HELP !!!

    Hello Pat,
    Thank you for the link, I tried that several days ago with no luck.
    My problems started when IE tried to update to FP 14.
    I did get my issue fixed; I used the Flash Player Uninstaller (found here: http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe), then restarted my computer.
    I went to the Flash Player Archives page (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html), and downloaded the ZIP file under "Release and Content Debugger archives" of the last known good-working version (for me it was 13.0.0.214, released 5/13/2014).
    This ZIP file contains 2 different versions for IE, Firefox, and Mac; one folder contains the normal versions, which didn't work for me....I kept getting the same error messages and had to keep using the Uninstaller, then restart computer, etc...
    BUT, in the "Debug" folder, with the debug versions of FP, I first installed the IE version (typically named "flash_player_ax_debug.exe" or something similar with the ax designator), this installed just fine and now everything works again!  I then updated Firefox with the other debug version, and everything works fine again.
    I don't know if this will work for any other problems, but it worked great for me after having similar issues as the OP.  Hope this helps
