Internet goes so slow now..

I updated my Iphone today and now the Internet goes so slow. Bah, this *****.

This may or may not help: where is the Airport positioned in relation to the iMac? If your iMac is Aluminum, you have to remember that a wireless signal cannot penetrate metal, so there is only one place on the iMac where it can: the Apple logo in the back. Before we try other troubleshooting methods, try turning the iMac a little (or move the Airport) to see if that would help. It could of course also be a defective built-in airport card (had that on a white iMac).

  • Internet going really slow

I just got my new white MB two days ago and i have noticed that when connected to a wireless network, surfing and downloading is really slow. i should be downloading at around 30-40k but the fastest i have gotten it is 20k and most of the time its in the 5k range. i am thinking about calling apple support. anyone know whats going on?

i dont know if this will help at all but i just ran a speed test and these are the results:
    Download: 58 k/sec
    Upload: 28 k/sec
also i pinged google.com and got this, i know my connection wont be full 700k speeds but it really shouldnt be this bad:

would being on a d-link wireless router be the problem?

  • HT1338 My MacBook's internet is going so slow - HELP!

The internet (Safari, Firefox, etc.) on my MacBook is going so slow.  I ran a speed test on it and my download speed is 5.37 Mbps and my upload speed is .96 Mbps.  Nothing else is going slow.  I cannot open facebook, google, gmail, and many others.  It will go to the page but will be a white blank page and it will just say loading.  If I wait for a couple minutes, the page will eventually load.  I know it's not my router because my roommates are not having a problem with it and I have recently tried another wi-fi site and the same thing happens.  Is there anything I can do?  I can't perform normal daily functions on it so I really would appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

    Hi Kayla,
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6/10.7 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

    dovdov2,
are you saying that when you connect your MacBook Pro to a monitor, your Internet connection slows down, but when you disconnect the monitor, it speeds up again, and that this is reproducible from one day to another?
Does this happen both under OS X and under Windows 7, or only under one of them?
How are you currently connecting your MacBook Pro to your monitor?

a reset no data loss. hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release.
Or settings - general - reset - reset network settings.
Or contact your cell phone provider.

Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
    The try
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • 2ND Battery is now NOT working(&)Can NOT restart(&) Going very slow!

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. I am new to this and I am wondering if anyone had any solutions or input to my post subject. I have just replaced the original MacBook battery and now the replacement will no longer charge much like the previous. Also, I am NOT able to restart the computer. I must shut down and start using the power button. Finally, the computer is very slow now and not able to properly stream most media online. If anyone has any idea what might be the problem I would appreciate any and all input. Thank you.

Was it an Apple-branded battery? Any chance the charger is bad?
Try booting from your OSX installation disk and use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your hard drive.

My iPod 4G has been going very slow! I want to restart it but my power button is broken. Please help it's been going slow for the past month. It's even slow as o type this message.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Internet is painfully slow, across any app.

    Hi everyone --
I've searched all of the forum topics I could find related to this, and none of the discussed solutions have helped me.
My internet is brutally slow, regardless of the app, including Safari, App Store, Skype, etc.
Another computer in the household has Windows and is running fine.
I have tried all of the reasonable attempts to fix this that I've read about, including:
Punching in new DNS codes in the Network area of System Preferences.
Deleted the cache, the browser history in Safari, and disabling browser plug ins.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash player (as this is where the connection suffers the most, in trying to stream videos on BBC, YouTube, etc).
Going into my Library then moving and deleting the ".plist" for Safari.
In general, on websites or the App Store for example, what happens is -- basic text will pop up after about 3 or 4 seconds of hanging, then even the slightest bit of content, including thumbnails, take several seconds per image. Anything even slightly more intense on bandwidth, like a streaming video or Flash menu, takes forever to load, if not outright gives up on me and never loads.
My machine is on Snow Leopard, a white Macbook, OSX is currently 10.6.8, which I believe I've had for several months, but this problem is only a day or two old. If I recall correctly, I did install the latest Security Update -- whatever the new ones are circa Feb. 3rd, 2012 -- within a day or two BEFORE this problem started happening... I believe this may be the culprit but strange in that there was some time before this problem surfaced, or so it seemed.
Does anybody know what more I could do?
    Thanks!

    Coincidence or conspiracy?
Within minutes of posting this question, internet went back to regular speed. Just like that. I have NO idea why. I didn't do anything different after posting my question. Simply time passed. I must emphasize, it was NOT an ISP problem as other machines in the house worked fine all along. So I don't know if something "kicked in" or what, from all the changes I tried, but for now at least, it's working.
Any insight as to what happened here?

  • Soooo Slow Now

Hi everyone, I got my Mac a couple years ago. All was going great, but now it runs so slow when watching videos on youtube or other internet video feeds. This wasn't the case before. Is there some kind of upkeep that I'm not doing?
I know when I had a PC, I had to periodically clear some folder and run some defrag thing. Do I need to do that with my mac? If so, what do I do? As you can see, I'm not very good with computers. I use it to keep connected online, upload pictures from the digital camera and a few small video clips.
Please, I used to love my mac, but I'm starting to not love it. Probably my own fault.

Page outs is 1.95GB and swap used is 645.80MB.
OK, the page outs and swap means because you are low on actual RAM/Memory, some of the Hard Drive is being used for Memory because you have run out of RAM. 1GB RAM is a bit on the low side, especially for an Intel machine. With a number of applications open, this might be the cause of slowdowns in general. You could add another 1GB stick of RAM. If you are in the US, OWC is a good place to find RAM that will be compatible. Call their tech support to discuss further. They can tell you how to install it. 1-800-275-4576
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
The 203.24 GB is from disk usage. Is that a lot or a little?
That's fine; not causing the problem.
Applications open? How do I tell? If it's the list I see in front of me, it's 27
I doubt you have 27 applications open. That might be the total of your available applications. Where do you see that? Is that the Applications folder? If you really have 27 applications open, close everything except your browser and see how videos play. You should never leave that many applications open.
Open applications will have a white dot to the left of each application icon in the dock.
I dowloaded the newest flash....10 I believe. I did that as one of the ways to rectify this issue.
Try uninstalling the Flash first, then reinstall the 10.

I haven't tried the new user account thing. Does that reset everything I've done so far? Will I be abe to access my messenger and my bookmarks and populars? And is rebooting the same as restarting? I've restarted a number of times hoping that would fix this.
You want to try a clean, new user account only as a test, to see if you have the same problem there. None of your regular user settings will be available, but this doesn't matter, since your are only seeing how videos play from this account. This won't affect any of your settings. Your regular account will be intact and you can switch back when you are done. Yes, rebooting and restarting are the same thing. Close all open applications and then try the new user. All your current Applications will be in the Applications folder inside the Hard Drive Folder. If you are using Safari, it should probably already be in the Dock of the new user; that's all you need for this.
When you restarted, how did videos play just after the restart?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
My results were for downloads 491 kbps and uploads were 254 kbps.
That's a bit on the bare bones side. YouTube and other sites are becoming more demanding of resources in general. One thing you could try is to let the video pause while it loads fully, or at least half way, before you try playing it.

  • Wired Internet Speed ridiculously slow

I am running Windows 8 64 bit on an HP Pavilion p7-1414 Desktop PC.
For a while I have had a pretty good experience, but for whatever reason my brother decided he should do a HP System Recovery and completely reinstalled Windows. Anyways, got everything set up again but noticed that the Internet speed was slower than usual. Contacted my ISP and asked about it and they said it wasn't anything wrong with the connection. Before the recovery I did not have this problem, but I noticed that it gets EXTREMELY bad when I install AVG free or even BitDefender, any antivirus besides Norton. I can try downloading say, a game, and the internet speed will start out at the usual 1MB per second, then it will rapidly decrease until it gets to about 15-400kb per second. If I pause and unpause it, it will start higher than 400 but then decrease to its usual speed.
I have tried another reinstallation of Windows, which didn't do any good. I have installed all possible Windows updates and Driver updates.
I just don't know what to do now, has anyone else ran into this problem and managed to fix it?
Edit: I should also mention that for some reason the Wireless adapter will not work on this computer anymore either, this happened after the first reinstallation. I have tried two different networks, neither work on my computer but work flawlessly with my Android phone and Xbox 360.
I'm not sure but maybe the Internet driver has something to do with it? In any case, the one I have is Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) while the wireless one is: Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you have installed and uninstalled multiple antivirus it is possible that some remnants of one are interferring with another.
It's just a hunch, but that's what I think it is.
I would suggest getting rid of Norton completely since their antivirus costs money and is a resource hog.
There is a program to uninstall it, search for it on google, called nonav.exe (No N.orton A.nti V.irus) and it thoroughly deletes all traces of norton.
As far as wireless goes there might be a switch that isn't obvious.  When you go to device manager, is it installed?

  • ITunes Store won't open and iTunes goes incredibly slow when i connect my iPod

Hadn't used iTunes for a while until a few weeks ago. Updated it but now when i try to open the iTunes Store the loading bar gets less than halfway before it gives up and just goes to a blank screen with "iTunes Store" written on it. Also when i connect my iPod it shows up under devices but if i try to click on it everything just goes really slow, no matter how long i leave it it won't bring up the page showing the details of my iPod. I emailed the support people about it but they've been no help at all so far, just wondering if anyone had any advice.

I also have the same problem except when you sync your iPod part. I also just see a blank screen on iTunes Store, even on the home page even if my connection is good. I just had this problem after I updated my Java program on my laptop (because they just released an updated version) so went updated mine. Since then, I only see a blank screen on iTunes, but when you search for a certain app for a game, it will show as normal, but when you go to the Apps tab and scroll down and click Games, it will load up but will only give you a blank screen. What's going on? Please have this fixed ASAP.

Then start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Check again. Then restart as usual and post the results.

  • Garageband 10 going SOOO slow...help please.

    Hello everyone,
I just downloaded the newest version of Garageband (v.10) and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow. This is a brand new iMac I'm running it on. My specs are as folllows:
    27 inch model
    3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    1TB HD
I really feel like my computer should be running this without a problem. Why is it lagging so hard?
I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari).
The reason I'm worried is because I have a project coming up in which I will need to crank out a LOT of music in a very short period of time. I need this thing to be operating at top capacity.
    Is there something I'm missing?
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
PLEASE HELP, I'm in trouble if I can't fix this.

I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari)
Safari can be a memory hog - if in doubt, quit Safari, before working with GarageBand.
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
If you did not delete your older GarageBand version, when you upgraded, it will be still installed. The GarageBand installer will have moved it to a subfolder of Applications -look for a folder GarageBand 6.0.5 in Applications. You can use both GarageBand version in parallel, no problem.
and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow
Try to narrow down the problem. Is this the same on all projects?
Then check, if you have incompatible audio units installed. GarageBand 10.0 is not compatible with older Audio Units.  And if you are using audio interfaces, check, if there are updates for the drivers.
