Internet Recovery - Mountain Lion

My MBA-2013 comes with Mountain Lion so I did not purchase it from the Apple Store (when I go to App Store, it says to purchase it).
If I have to do Internet Recovery at a later time, would I be required to buy a license copy from the App store?
I plan to purchase OS X Mavericks when it comes out, so I was wondering if I need to buy 10.8.5 also.
Thanks

Alan..
Internet Recovery means booting in  OS X Recovery
That's available for v10.8 Mountain Lion users to restore, repair, or reformat the startup disk if necessary.
OS X Recovery is necessary because new Macs no longer come with install discs.
OS X Recovery requires a high speed broadband internet connection.
Remember to backup your important files on a timely basis.

  • Problems Restoration Internet and Mountain Lion Restoration

    Good morning everyone!
I started with a simple procedure to format my MacBook Pro with command + R after Disk utilities deleted the Macintosh HD then went to restore OS X Mountain Lion then starting dai that really gets my problems.
As soon as I press the first button> it tells me an error saying that it was not possible to find information of installation of this equipment contact applecare, did the procedure again from disk utility more now not mounted the Macintosh HD and when I went Restore OS X Mountain Lion pressed the first button> and he proceeded normally but without an HD to install because it was dismantled.
I tried the recovery via internet command + alt + R then so it appears the globe ja me back another error, what can I do to restore my Mac? as it now only comes in these two dining options.
If you want I can take pictures of errors.

  • No Recovery - Mountain Lion won't install but Lion Recovery worked (until Mountain Lion messed it up).

When I tried to install Mountain Lion it gave me the "this disk does not support some features, like FileVault or Recovery Mode..." message.  However, my Lion install at that point had a working Recovery Partition (I confirmed it after I got this first message - booted with it).  I also have a cloned backup so I clicked continue.  The install failed and gave the "No Recovery" message.  Then I tried to boot in Recovery Mode and a screen came up saying "Installing" and the giant X with what looked like a progress bar with diagonal blue lines moving left to right, but no "time remaining" or other info indicating it was doing anything.  I let this go on for about 10 or 15 minutes then restarted my computer.  In Disk Utility I repaired permissions and disk repair was ok. I'm not using RAID or BootCamp - just one partition (plus the Lion Recovery one.  The Mac is a newest model MacMini with an OWC SSD (I first thought the SSD might be the problem but it worked with Lion, so...)

    Just Follow this procedure...
    1.     Go To BOOT CAMP and create a BLANK PARTITION. Say a minimum of 10 GB. You do not have to install anything on this.
    2. After you create this, go back to ML installer and now you will see 2 HD's. one will be your main HD and the second one will be the one you just created.
    3. Install the ML OS X on the main hard drive. Once installed, reboot the machine go to DISK UTILITY and delete the blank partition you had created.
    4. So, now you have your HD at its full capacity.
    Try this it should work.

  • Slow internet after mountain lion download

web pages open slowly or not at all after mountain lion download

I'm having the same problem but only at home with a slow internet service.  At work with faster internet my macbook pro works fine.  I wonder if Mountain Lion requires some minimum internet speed?  Our old macbook pro (not using Mountain Lion) still works fine with our slow home internet.  This change happened when I installed Mountain Lion.  Also I can boot from by back up disk and bypass Mountain Lion and work with my slow internet at home. ???

  • Safari will not connect to Internet after Mountain Lion update

    Please help!!!
I recently updated to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard and for a few days, everything seemed to work well & seamlessly!
However, on starting up my MacBookPro today, I cannot connect to the Internet.
I continually receive the error message "Safari can't connect to the server"
I have run diagnostics and my connection is fine, with a full wifi signal.
My iPad, iPhone & iPod all connect perfectly and my router has been unchanged and untouched!
I'm not the most computer-literate person in the world but would appreciate any possible help and advice!
    My MacBookPro has the following:
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8 (12A269) Mountain Lion
    Many thanks!!!

When I try and open it, windows puts up a box saying that windows 7 has a problem with Safari and will not open?
Fingers crossed, your Windows 7 will have been recording some additional information about those.
First, open your Action Center and expand "Maintenance". Click "View reliability history":
Once the reliability report has been generated, look for Critical events for Safari generated at the time of the "Safari has stopped working" messages. Doubleclick the name Safari in the critical events. (Don't click View solution.) Here's a screenshot showing what to doubleclick:
You should see something that looks like the following screenshot:

  • Slow internet safari mountain lion

After installing the upgrade to mountain lion my internet connection using safari is very slow. Anyone with the same problem and a solution?

I was able to resolve the problem by disabling my WiFi on the iMac and just using the ethernet.
Maybe ML updated the WiFi in some way that is causing issues between the cards on the machine and the WiFi routers/access points.  I've seen this happen in business settings when firmware updates get applied to the WLAN system that cause issues with some wireless adapters.  Usually, updating the driver on the wireless adapters can fix the problem.  This may be a reverse case.
For reference, I'm using a Linksys 4200 with the current firmware version 1.0.00.  I've checked the support site and found that 1.0.04 is available.  I'll upgrade the firmware and test it out to see if that makes a difference.

  • How do I share a folder over the internet with Mountain Lion server?

I am new to using formal servers.  In Snow Leopard I was able to use web sharing to serve a small website and if I wanted to share a folder with someone I would  just provide the person I wanted to share a file with the path to the file inside the sites directory.  With Mountain Lion this functionality was removed from the sharing section of system preferences.
I purchased mountain lion server and was able to restore the website serving ability, but I haven't been able to figure out how to share a folder.  I am still looking over what documentation I can find, but for the most part it just tells me to set up the services without telling me how.  Any assistance would be helpful.  Networking is not my area of expertise.
    Best Regards,
    David Finell

I purchased server to assist with this as I am unfamiliar with the command line protocols for using apache.  Because of the UNIX architechture of OSX and I presume apache, I am uncomfortable using the command line for fear of causing serious problems.
Unfortunately, the documentation that I have seen for mountain lion server is wanting in either its completeness or layout/functionability.  To summarize the server instructions as I understand them.  It just says to configure it and my system to meet my requirements without telling me how.
I am confident that both the apache command line and server are capable of accomplishing what I was able to do before under snow leopard.  I just haven't figured out how.
I was able to provide a link to family and clients like http://ipaddress/~user/folder
    This no longer works.

  • Lose internet with mountain lion

My internet keeps dropping especially when downloading files or video play since I downloaded Mtn Lion. I have already downloaded update.

Enter spotlight and write keychain access ,delete your wifi passwords and try connect again. Or change your router channel ( I changed my router channel 6 to 11).

  • HT5286 I want to buy a new os x mountain lion for my mac

Im running of os x lion and no beed to reinstslling maverics which is cant boot and cant install to my mac even im using internet recovery.

    Mountrain Lion: http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
Mavericks is better and it is free, IMHO.
The tech requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are the same. If you don't meet them for Mavericks, you don't meet them for Mountain Lion too.

  • How do i fix mail in mountain lion

I upgraded to mountain lion and am having problems with Mail. The mail boxes appear but one of the accounts is offline. When I try to put it online i get the 'spining wheel of death'. I force quit, and open system preferences and find that another one of the accounts is offline. I try to modify and again get 'the wheel'.
When mountain lion first uploaded it opened mail twice, one was the older style, and the other window was in the latest style.
So far i have tried re installing via internet the mountain lion os, tried putting the mail folder from ~library onto the desktop, restart and open up mail. This fixes everything ( mail preferences no longer hang, system preferences can be altered, etc ) BUT i need to try to get the old mail settings to work as i have forgotten the passwords to 4 gmail accounts and it's a real hassle to recover them.
Any ideas as to what might work?

    Only by reinstallin Mountain Lion:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • When Installing  Mountain Lion, showing error and taking 8-10 hrs for download and unable to Install

    Dear All,
I purchased new Macbook Air.When I download free Mountain Lion is given by Macbook, which is taking 8-10 hrs to download a littile bit and showing error message, try again...but I could not download and Instal the same.again and again showing error message.when I download this Macbook is going to sleep mode and pause. How can I cure this?PLease help me.

Try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Some ISP's have a download quota that limits download sizes. Mountain Lion is a 4.35GB file.
Check with your internet service provider. You also may need to upgrade to broadband high speed internet since Mountain Lion Recovery requires broadbaand access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
Check Sleep settings in System Preferences > Energy Saver.

  • Can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion

can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion. when restart and i press command it still has recovery mountain lion show on my screen.

What model is the MBP? Did it come with OS 10.6 or a later OS? Is the install DVD one that came with it or something else?
You can't run an OS older than Mac on it.
But if came with 10.6 installed & you have the system discs, you should be able to erase the drive & reinstall the original OS.

Gave up on the GUI.  This script derived from http://blog.netnerds.net/2012/07/os-x-how-to-setup-nat-on-lion-and-mountain-lion / seems to work for me:
gwdev=en0 # This is my WiFi connection (has Internet connection)
targetdev=en1 # This is the USB to Ethernet adapter (to give Internet connection)
    /sbin/ifconfig $targetdev down

  • I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing.

I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing. I have absolutely no clue what to do here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    - Currently if I boot it up there is a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I am assuming this means there is no OS because I wiped the SSD and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion
    - When I hold Command+R, it prompts me to Choose Network... the problem with this is the wifi constantly is disconnecting. The Retina 2012 does not have an ethernet port so i have considered buying the attachment then returning when done.
Once again Thank you in advance.
    Best.

There is nothing to do if you don't have a reliable Internet connection unless you have a copy of the Mountain Lion installer application from when you first installed it.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
