In Visual Basic 6.0, when I run this line of code to create an instance of CR 8.5: Global G_objCRApplication As CRAXDRT.Application
I get this error: Invalid TLS index used for current stack trace.
How do I fix this?

Hello Don,
Crystal Reports 8.5 was retired long before Vista was released. Mixing in other CRPE versions wouldn't be supported to work in your application. Business Objects SAP won't go back and update earlier versions of Crystal Reports (like CR8.5) for Vista support.
CR XI R2 with later service packs is supported on Vista, however using direct API calls (e.g. PEOpenEngine) was retired after CR9. It is unlikely that you'll be able to upgrade your application to CRXIR2 without a major rewrite to move to the Report Designer Component (RDC).
Note that CR2008 doesn't ship with the RDC. The recommended upgrade path is to move to the .NET platform.

Invalid TLS Index with AppVerifier -- CR8.5 CRPE

We are using the old CRPE engine, utilizing the 8.5 version of Crystal Reports. We've used this for a number of years, and hoping not to have to rewrite everything for the latest .NET versions.
We are attempting to have our software Certified for Windows Vista. This requires that the Microsoft AppVerifier runs against the application to detect various problems, including issues with Threads and Handles. It appears that the use of PEOpenEngine() in the application is causing this Invalid TLS Index error to occur. We have tried various versions of the crpe32.dll, from 7 to 10.2, and all of them seem to have the same trouble. I've also found a few other documented cases online with users having the same problem.
Does anyone know anything about this problem, if a fix has been issued, or if there are any workarounds for it? Microsoft will not issue a waiver, so it is impossible to have an application pass certification while using the CRPE engine.

What varaible is best to use for current fiscal year.

I have few restricted key figures which need to be reported as "for current fiscal year" so which ios the best variable we can use for that.In the filter area I have fiscal year variant and comp code do I have to give users the input ready for fiscal year?
Also then i need comparison between current and previous year for same RKF so I plan to offset the varaible by "-1" .

Determining current stack trace elements

The task is to determine caller method for some another method.
Let's assume we have such a class:

I've thought out one way: throwing an exception in analysis method and then working with its stack trace. This way works but it has some disadvantages:
* it is expensive (efficiency)
* it gives only class and method names, while methods can be overloaded (actually this disadvantage is not so important in my case).
And I've also found that Throwable.fillInStackTrace() is native. And that's bad.

Visual attribute for current item

How can i set the visual attribute of the current item in multi block form so that when user navigate through item in a form its background colour is changed and user can easily trace where the cursor is ?

1- I have three list box on the form as well so whether post-text-item works over therei have no issues with this and it is working fine in my forms list box
2- and i have 3 datablock among which 2nd and thid datablock is multirecord datablock where i set current record visual attribute so what is the behaviour @ run time either current record Visual attribute override current item VA or it works fine
it is working perfectly in multi record also..you need to remember in post text trigger use the same visual attribute used for current record visual attribute

Invalid step index

Ok, i just found two threads for the problem with the error of invalid step index in Teststand but i couldn't solve the problem.
I've created a main sequence with a lopp that is executed for several times. In this loop there is a sequence call that creates a number of steps. For each iteration of the loop the number of these step is different. The first run of the loop works fine but the next run break with this error: "Invalid step index '12' for 'Main' phase in sequence 'MainSequence'. Error Code: -17301, Index out of range."
The steps in the sequence are correctly set and configured.
I've read in this forum that it is recommended to create such a sequence with varialbe steps as a subsequence, and i did so! So please tell me what's wrong with this sequence?

Ok this is the sequence. You can see the loop containing the sequance call Test Case. The sequence TestCase contains the sequence call WU Simulation. And in this sequence you can see four sequence calls for WU_FL,WU_FR,WU_RR and WU_RL.
The step number in these four sequences is different in each loop iteration. The steps are created by the VI in Setup for the Test Case sequence.
The VI steps in cleanup of Test Case delete the created steps so that the four sequences are ready for the next iteration of the loop.
The error described above occurs when one of the four subsequences in WUSimulation is called. The sequences contain definitely the correct steps for the current loop iteration, only Teststand stops the sequence.

The Exception Handler gave all the info that you need. No need to print the whole stack trace.
The exception handler says

Using JSSE : "Invalid Netscape CertType extension for SSL client" Error

Im using the sample code given sun site for JSSE with Client Authentication. The sample as such it worked with the testkeys provided in that. But it didn't workout when I tried using other certificates.
Both client and server certificates I generated from our internal Netscape Certificate Manager.
Function of the server :
The server will read a private key from the given keystore and starts listening on a port. This server will server only GET request.
Function of the client :
The Client sends a GET request to the server and gets the response back.
I simply changed the key store name alone in the working sample code.
It is not working.

The same thing.
I have found the place where the exception throws.
It is com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.AVA class.
It has a constructor AVA(StringReader)
There is a check in this constructor of different certificate extensions
(if-else). If it sees no familiar extension it throws exception and handshake fails.
It is not difficult to fix this problem: just ignore unknown extension.
Everything works fine with this "improved" class (under VA 3.5).
But the problem is - the using of this class in applets.
How can I say the browser to use my "improved" class and not the one it downloaded with java plug-in?

Stack trace for debugging transaction problems

We are using CR 2008 SP2, SQL Server 2000 and VS 2005.
We are having issues with deadlocks in our database. If we run a report which has a stored procedure as its datasource and someone else is inserting a record into the table that the stored procedure needs to read, the stored procedure is the victim in the deadlock.
The error message is
"Error in File OC2 {52EE54E2-54F7-42 etc.}.rpt: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code 1205]"
We want to try to debug this issue and we would like to get some information from the RPT or from our application, which is already logging. Is there anyway to get a stack trace from the DLL that is involved on the Crystal side of this deadlock?

I do not think there is anything like that as far as CR is concerned. However a suggestions that came up from Googling the error message:
You may want to try setting up a stored procedure or a DTS job that will copy your data from the "production" tables over to a set of "reporting" tables and then point all of your reports to the reporting set of tables. You're less likely to encounter deadlock issues that way because DTS will wait until the lock is released to copy the data and then the Crystal reports will be pulling from tables that aren't being updated. If you schedule the DTS jobs to run 2 minutes before the reports you should have plenty of time for them to finish before the reports are generated.

How to get the trace file name for current running application?

Hi, I want to know if it is possible to get the file name directly for current running application instance which is launched by javaws.
There is a property "deployment.user.logdir" tells the log directory, it would be great if a file name property
is available. something like "instance.trace.file".
Our application wants it because we would like our client send use the application log by clicking a "send error"
button, the codes finds the trace file and compress it and send it by using a smtp server.
In 1.5, we can do it by using a shell program.

I found other asked it before, but I tried to set both properties, but neither works. my sun JRE version :java version "1.6.0_04"

Hi,
Could you please make sure your binding style(Oracle Positional,Oracle named..etc) of the Seeded VO and Custom Vo are same.
This is the option you will get when you are extending your vo. So make sure that both are same.

Not able to see stack trace in JBoss IDE for eclipse2.0

hello im using JBoss IDE for eclipse2.0 version for developing application. but the problem is im not able to see the errors/ error stack trace coming on console.i configured console but im not abloe to see any error. actualy earlier i was using eclipse3.0 but there i could not use the jsp file.i was not able to create a jsp page in my aleady developed application and also syntax is not highlighting in java file. so i switched to JBoss IDE for eclipse2.0 its using jdk1.3 version.
can anyone help me..n can also tel me which version of eclipse i should use. and how to configure eclipse so that i can see the properly highlighted syntax of java code.

I would advise against reverting to very old versions just because you can't get the new versions to work. Try to read the installation instructions and manuals of the new versions and try to get those to work.

All these different attempts are not really helpful if you don't say which of them was more effective than the other ones. That's why I'm asking for the "Predicate Information" section so that this information can be used to determine which of your tables might benefit from an indexed access path and which don't.
As already mentioned several times if you use SQL tracing as described in one of the links provided you could see which operation produces how many rows. This would allow to determine if it is efficient or not.
But given that you're doing all this with your test data it doesn't say much about the performance in your production environment.

I am trying to use pro filer to create a trace,so that it can be used as workload in
"Database Engine Tuning Advisor" for optimization of one stored procedure.
Please tel me about the Event classes which i should use in trace.
The stored proc contains three insert queries which insert data into a table variable,
Finally a select query is used on same table variable with one union of the same table variable, to generate a sequence for records based on certain condition of few columns.
There are three cases where i am using the above structure of the SP, so there are three SPS out of three , i will chose one based on their performance.
1) There is only one table with three inserts which gets into a table variable with a final sequence creation block.
2) There are 15 tables with 45 inserts , which gets into a tabel variable with a final
sequence creation block.
3)
There are 3 tables with 9 inserts , which gets into a table variable with a final
sequence creation block.
In all the above case number of record will be around 5 lacks.
Purpose is optimization of queries in SP
like which Event Classes i should use for finding good indexs and statistics for queries in SP.

You can use the "Tuning" template to capture the workload to a trace file that can be used by the DETA. See

If you are capturing the workload of a production server, I suggest you not do that directly from Profiler as that can impact server performance. Instead, start/stop the Profiler Tuning template against a test server and then script the trace
definition (File-->Export-->Script Trace Definition). You can then customize the script (e.g. file name) and run the script against the prod server to capture the workload to the specified file. Stop and remove the trace after the workload
is captured with sp_trace_setstatus:
