Inverted question mark  (¿) displayed insted of euro sign (€)

Hi folks,
when I'm trying to open an existing report (created and built on colleagues machine) in my Report Builder (v 10.1.2.0.2) instead of euro sign (€) is displayed inverted question mark (¿).
When I open this report with other machine, everything is fine. So it looks to me, that something is wrong with my machine - some settings.
I compared Regional and Language settings within Control Panel,in register NLS_LANG (AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252) - on both machines and it is the same.
What can cause this problem?
Many Thanks,
Tomas

Yes I have, I checked character codes on my machines.
I reinstalled Oracle forms and reports (10gR2) and after re-installation it is working fine. I have no idea what causes this problem.
Thanks,
Tomas

  • Inserting upside down question marks/Inverted Question marks into database

    Hi All,
When I am inserting any special character into database it is
inserted as upside down question marks/Inverted Question marks.
When I am trying to display the same string throgh the application
the special characters are displaying as small square box.
    NLS Parameters are as follows:-
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_CHARACTERSET UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET UTF8
    NLS_RDBMS_VERSION 9.2.0.4.0
can any body help in this?
    Thanks in advance.

What are any "special character" and how do you insert them?
Have you verified what is stored in the db, e.g. with select string, dump(string,1016) from table ...
What character set (or locale) does the app/os use, and is NLS_LANG set accordingly?
The square box often means that the font used does not have the proper glyph to represent (display) a character. In your case this may be a consequence of improperly storing or retrieving character data.

  • Case sensitive Inverted Question Marks

In Indesign CC I am trying to change all the inverted question marks and exclamation marks to their case sensitive versions, so that capital IQMs are in front of cap letters and cap IEM are in front of cap letters, but lowercase versions are in front of lowercase letters. The different question marks have the same unicodes, but different GID numbers (I believe the same is true for the exclamation marks). Is there a way I can use a GREP search to find and replace these inverted marks to make this happen? If so what GREP command(s) would I use? (If this can't be done using GREP is there another way to do this besides manually replacing them all, which is just not happening).

so this is my control file.

  • Questions marks displayed in SAP menu

    Hi Gurus,
We recently applied around 120 support packages and everything completed successfully, now we notice that applying the SP, Question marks ( ???????????????) are getting displayed in  the menu area for some Tcodes. These question marks are getting displayed between the Environment and  System menu.
I heard that it has something to with language update, also after an SAP Upgrade some language update needs to be done in order to remove these Question marks, is it so?
Please let me know how to fix this issue. Awaiting your valuable responses.

  • Question mark display

i was wondering if other mac users experience this problem too. when i go on a website, a lot of the images contain a question mark with a blue background. for instance, when i go to myspace on a friend's site,a majority of the buddy icons contains the question mark.
i refresh the page a few times and still contains the same problem.
anyone know how to solve this problem?
    thanks.

I'm pretty sure that means there is no actual image. Sometimes the servers where images are stored are down, or simply the link to the image is broken (deleted files). The HTML says there's supposed to be an image there, and displays some sort of question mark or other symbol depending on which web browser you're using to indicate that it can't find it.

  • Why does my computer keep showing a flashing folder and question mark and sometimes a prohibit sign?

Lately whenever I bootup my 13in Macbook Pro (Late2011) it starts off as usualy but than the apple logo turns into a blinking folder thats has a question mark on it or a blinking prohibit sign. So confused on what to do. Please help!!

Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
Mac OS X- Gray screen or prohibitory sign appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by one or more of these:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Note that the information I have provided is what Apple recommends, If other users suggest different solutions than found here, then be sure what they recommend does not impact on your warranty, if any, or ability to get continuing Apple service.
Please don't start removing drives or changing cables unless you know what you are doing and have exhausted other non-invasive alternatives outlined here. If you perform any work yourself that is unapproved by Apple, then you will void any warranty you may have and lose all further Apple Support.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD. Simply boot from the Recovery HD to perform the above.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • New hard drive in 2009 iMac has been installed and now I have a folder with a question mark displayed on start up.

I installed a Barracuda 500 gb drive. When I attempted a reinstall based off an external hard drive using time machine, it showed an error message of not being able to complete the back up. This was after I formatted the new drive using disc utility. I reformatted a different external drive and let it make several back ups. I then put the new drive into the machine and now I only get the folder with the question mark. It is a late 2009 iMac. The OS updates have been through the on line store and I do not have back up discs. Everything SHOULD be backed up on my external.

when you partition and format the new bare drive are you running off of an install disc in the optical drive? I have used the install disk for Leopard to access the Disc Utility (did not install Leapard, just used it to access the Disc Utility) as well as the machine prompting me to take action due to the new hard drive being recognized, again using disc utility and using the install disc provided by the hard drive manufacturer. All of these were done according to instruction as previously mentioned, on a reformatted and partitioned drive each time.
What OS version are you nstalling on the bare drive before you attempt to restore from your Time Machine backup? I have not installed any OS on the bare drive. I do not have a copy of Lion 10.7.5  as I purchased it through the app store. I was under the impression I could reinstall all the data through Time Machine but that is proving elusive - frustrating.
Are you trying to use the Time Machine "star wars" interface to restore or are you using Migration Assistant? I am not using migration assistant. I have been using the Time Machine restore application.

  • Inverted Question Mark Symbol in procedure

    Hi
We have a table in the database which is populated through a application.
The application is developed using JDevelper 10g.
The symbol '-' gets replaced with the symbol '¿' when it is stored in a column in the table. The text in this particular column is mailed to the user. Sending the mail is acheived using a procedure. So in the procedure before sending the mail, we take the text and replace all '' with '-', and then mail this text. Statement used for this:
    replace(TEXT,'¿','-');
We have 2 testing environments. It works in one environment and does not work in other environment.
When we open the procedure in SQLPlus after executing the create procedure statement, the '¿' is replaced with '?' and in OEM it shows boxes instead of '¿'.
Should we install any font in the environment?
Please help us in solving this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Shoba

That is not problem only on fonts.
(Please try to create procedure on OEM or i SQL*Plus.)
(Sorry this doesn't make help for you)
If you want to create it on SQL*Plus(GUI Edition) for Windows,
I'm not certain whether it goes well or not, but please try as follows.
    (1) go to Control panel -> Regional and Language options -> Advanced -> Language for non-Unicode programs
    (2) and then select Spanish (Spain)
    (3) and reboot Windows.
    (4) set nls_language=American_America.WE8ISO8859P1
    or set nls_language=American_America.AL32UTF8
    (5) use SQL*Plus
But, this method effects other applications undesirably.
How to display '¿' on OEM is one of your question...

  • What does a picture of a file with a question mark on it displayed on the screen mean?

    Hello out there,
Does anyone know what a file with a question mark displayed on screen means?
And how to get to start up, I am not able to exit the page.
    Help would be much appreciated.

    Follow these support documents
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If you have OS X Lion you can hold option and select the Recovery Partition to boot off of or download the recovery
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433
If you can hold c and boot off a 10.5 or 10.6 OS X installer disk, you can install OS X onto a external drive and reboot holding option key to select the external drive to boot off of to retrieve files too.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, use another Mac, a Firewire cable and Target Disk Mode to recover your files off the internal drive before taking it in to Apple for service.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
Do what you think you can handle above, just don't erase or reformat your drive unless you have gotten a copy of your files off first.
Most programs can be simply reinstalled from fresh sources, make sure you have any license keys handy.
You have one year warranty and another two more years with AppleCare.
It's possbile to take a computers internal hard drive and place it in a external drive enclosure to access your files on another machine, so if the computer is going to be replaced, ask for the internal hard drive.

  • Why the question mark on all open windows while in the Finder?

I am running OS X version 10.10 on an iMac and a MBP with Retina display. While in the finder every open window has a large question mark displayed. Why is this? What might be the he problem? What can be done to correct the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

Where is it displayed? Post an image here:
To post screen shot do this:
Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.
No guarantee anyone will see it given how the forum has been, but if it is then a picture is worth a thousand words.

  • Incorrect keyboard language? (upside question mark for example)

Whenever I type out a message and use the 'SYM' button to reach a question mark or exclamation mark, the character that I want isn't available. Here's a few examples:
    ? = inverted question mark
    ! = inverted exclamation mark
    / = \
    ( ) = not available
It seems that the language of the keyboard does not match what is printed on the physical keys.
My regional language settings are English UK and I can't seem to find anything relating to this in any of the user guides.
    Can anyone help?

It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.<br />
Windows remembers that setting per application.
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar.
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar.
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar.
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application.
    * The default keys to rotate the layout is a combination (Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift) that can easily be used in Firefox to activate a menu item.
    * To avoid an unintentional switch assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)
    * Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Keyboards and Languages > Change keyboards > Advanced key settings > Change key sequence

  • Macbook displays a question mark sign(?) on screen

I have a 13" Macbook. I had a 250 gb and a 500 gb internal hd's already crashed. I just bought a brand new 250 gb thought that this will work. I was wrong. I inserted this hd and turned on the on-switch. The same screen I saw earlier showed again-a blue acreen with a file with a (?) sign on it. What's wrong?
Need help so bad. Thank you in advance for your help.
    God bless you and yours.
    sal

The question mark means no bootable drive can be found (and using the option key won't find any either unless it can find a Lion recovery partition).
If you installed a brand new drive then it needs to be formatted.  Until Lion I would have told you to use your installer dvd to format the new drive and install on to it.  With Lion I don't know what to recommend to you since you would normally boot from the Lion recovery partition and run Disk Utility from there.  But you have a new drive with no recovery partition so I don't know what you could do.
The only thing I can think of is if you have one of those bootable Lion flash drives you could boot from that and then format and install on to your new drive from that.  Otherwise, I don't know.
