Investigate database activity at a specific time

I am working on Oracle 10.2.0.4 database on OEL 5.
We had a heavy load on the database yesterday evening and the database was performing very slowly.
Is it possible to check what activity would have occurred at that time.
OEM can be of help but I thought if there are any other database views other than the AWR which stores these information ?
Any suggestions would be of great help?
If it is only through AWR which tables and columns should i query for relevant data?

Is the AWR turned on?
Try: Performance-Tab -> Snapshots
Select a start-snapshot, Select Actions: View Report, Select a end-Snapshot and generate Report.
This will provide a Statspak-like Report. When you select the Action Compare Periods you could comapre a typical behavior and that a-typical.

Michael_KJust to add that you can also of course do this from the command line on the server, if you are appropriately licensed for awr as before, by running @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt from sqlplus whilst connected as an appropriately privileged user - I tend to use system

• Cost of activity regarding a specific time period (start/finish)

Hi
I need to export into an excel a field in which there's the cost (of each task) for 2015 and for 2016 years.
For example. I insert a row "TaskA" : start at jan-2015 and finish at oct-2016. I need to know how much cost in 2015 and how much in 2016.
Inside MS Project I can see (and paste into excel) that information in timeline table. But what about have this information in custom cost fields?
thank you.

Hi, John,
thank for quick response.
1) Sorry but I don understand what you mean for
"Populating those two fields will depend on how you calculate the cost for the custom
field."
Do you mean that I need to insert manually the cost for 2015 and 2016?
In that way I'll have two fields (2015 and 2016) absolutely un-linked...each time that I change a task
I have to insert MANUALLY the values inside 2015 and 2016 fields?
2) Also using formulas is not possibile have a time-section of costs?
regards

• User login report in Active Directory for specific date and time

I want to get User login report in Active Directory for specific date and time e.g user logged in at15-01-2015 from 8:00am to 4:00pm
Is any query, script or any tool available?
Waiting for reply please

You can identify the last logon date and time using my script here: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Get-Active-Directory-User-bbcdd771
If you would like to get back in time and see when the user did a logon / logoff then you need to have auditing enabled. Once done, you can records from Security log in the event viewer: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/98cbecb0-d23d-479d-aa65-07e3e214e2c7/manage-active-directory-users-logon-logoff-events
I have started a Wiki about how to track logon / logoff and it can help too: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/20422.record-logon-logoff-activities-on-domain-servers-and-workstations-using-group-policy.aspx

• How to query in SCCM 2012 to know how many active and inactive clients in a specific time and date

Dear Everyone,
Good morning. I need to perform a query to know how many clients PCs are active or inactive during the a specific time and date (let say, today 9pm). In my query, I want to know:
1. How many client PCs is active at that time and date?
2. How many client PCs is not inactive at that time and date?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you Gerry for pointing out that it doesn't show real time date. I do agree with that. However, I am look at the (at least in this) report which supposed to [description] shows a list of computers not reporting any power activity for a specified date
and time. Since I can only key in date in my selection (time option not given), I am expecting the report to show me whether there any client PCs that doesn't any power activity for the specified date. A list was generated, and a number of them shows HardwareInventoryScan,
LastHeartBeatScan and LastPolicyRequest on the same date itself. I would like to know why these appears, so that I can learn from it.
Due to the selection option given, I can't expect my original goal, but at least (hopefully) I can get to know (past event) how many and which client PCs is not powered on a particular date based on the date and collection selected.
At least by getting explainations, I hope to learn something from this (how to read this report). Thanks in advance.

• Storing location specific time in Database

I have a requirement to store Location Specific Time in Database.
Our Database Servers and OC4J run with US Central timezone. This causes all the "Date" mappings in my Entity to be stored in US Central timezone.
My Entity
StopId-----------------PickUpDateTime-----------------LocationId
As per above structure "PickUpDateTime" is a DATE type field and i want to store Date and Time value as per Location id. I have a utility to get TimeZone from "LocationId".
So If "LocationId" represents "New York", i want to see Time in Eastern Timezone.
For example, "PickUpDateTime" is 2 PM Central, i want to see 3 PM in the Database.
I was not able to use "Timestamp with Timezone" and in some cases we have to use "DATE" type in our Database Table. How can i achieve this?
Chandresh

Hi Folks, Hopefully this will be a simple one for
you.
I need my store method of my Database

parameter. How can I use an if statement to do
the check? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, LBCheck what?
How does a Record know how to store itself?
Does a Record map 1:1 to a table, or are there JOINs involved?
public class Database

record.store();

• The ODS activation is taking long time

Hi,
We are on SAP NetWeaver BI 701 (Support Package 5).
We create a Z ODS, it will contain a lot of data (180.000.000 month-end) and we want to generate specific reports about it.
The activation is taking long time, I assume is because we checked the flag "SIDs Generation upon Activation". I am confused about this check. I really need it? is this check the only problem.
Thanks for you help.
Victoria

Hi Victoria:
If your Z DSO is used only for staging purposes (you don't have queries based on this DSO and you send the data to another DSO or to an InfoCube) then you don't need to check the "SIDs Generation Upon Activation" box.
Even more, to achieve better performance during data loads in this scenario, you might consider using a Write Optimized DSO instead of a Standard DSO, but if you decide to take this alternative don't forget to select the "Do Not check Uniqueness of Data" box if you need to write several records with the same Semantic Key.

• Sudden shutdowns at a specific time

I have a Dual-Core 2x2.66 Mac Pro that has a strange sudden shutdown issue. I don't have any mixed RAM or anything like that. Nor do I have an PCI cards for expansion. The Mac just has a couple of Apple SATA drives internally and a few FireWire drives on it's ports.
I did a search but didn't find anything that duplicates my problem.
Basically the Mac does a sudden shutdown and reboot every so often with varying frequency (sometimes several times a week, sometimes once a week).
The odd things is that other than a rare exception, it always occurs at a specific time of day (8:41 am to be exact).
My first thought was that perhaps I have some software that is running an automatic, prescheduled function at that time and that is causing the problem. But a review of the software I have installed that I know does this type of thing reveals no prescheduled activities at this time. I have even tried to watch my Activity Monitor at that time and of course the times that I do so, the shutdown doesn't occur.
It seems to me it maybe software/system related, but I hesitate to go all out and wipe my system and reinstall everything because of the sheer number of Apps I have loaded (I do graphics and video work so I am running full suites of Apple and Adobe stuff as well as a bunch of other stuff).
I would certainly do so if I were sure that were the problem, but I don't want to do that if it isn't going to resolve anything?
I had a similar issue with an iMac, but that was not time of day dependent and occurred far more frequently - AppleCare replaced the power supply.
Any thoughts on the cause?
Thanks

As a test try deleting the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. You might also try booting into safe mode to see if that makes a difference. Also creating a new user account and logging into that account (log out of your normal account) may also be useful in troubleshooting this.

• Write to GPIB at a specific time in AO waveform

I would like to write a command to GPIB (using "GBIP Write.vi") at a
specific time in every iteration of buffered analog output.
But I have two question:
1. all iterations are generated at once by "AO Start.vi" ,how could I
write to GPIB in every iteration?
2. to write to GPIB at a specific time in each iteration,I must use
"Wait(ms).vi" to wait for a certain time, but this is not accurate
(delay>1ms)
P.S 1.the GPIB instrument is a function generator without external
trigger.
2.I have a timing board(PCI 6602) but I don't know whether it is
helpful.
Thank you for your help.

You have a choice of a gpib device with an external trigger or you will have to move LabVIEW-RT (where this project would be a slam-dunk).

• How to change the ownership of a doc after a specific time in workflow ?

Hi
My objective is to create a workflow in ESO , that will change the ownership of a contract document from the current person to his supervisor ( supervisor's id will be in user id management page) after a specific time .
Please help me how to do it ?
I am using TWE editor for workflow design

To prepare a computer for sale or donation, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you paid for an upgrade OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.)
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

• Show active current date and time in a Form continuously

Hi,
I am use Oracle Form 10.1.2 in Windows 2000.
Can we show an active current date and time in a Form continuously?
Perhaps in the main menu form.
So the user can see the moving time, instantly when the time change (withour pushing F5 for refreshing the form)
23-Sep-2006 06:00
-- one minute later will show
23-Sep-2006 06:01
-- one minute later will show

-- and so on
Any help is appreciated.
Many thanks,

Here is a quick, untested suggestion that sketches out one way of approaching this.
If you only require updates every 60 seconds, you can use the TIMER built-in to create a repeating timer with a sixty-second delay. Each time the timer expires, update a text item to reflect the current time (obtained by selecting SYSDATE from DUAL on the database.)
If the time is to be updated precisely when the minute changes, use two timers -- the same one described above, and a one-shot. Before you create either timer, run the following query:
SELECT 60-TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'ss')) FROM DUALThis will give the number of seconds remaining until the minute changes. Use this value to set the duration of the one-shot timer. When it expires, create the repeating sixty-second timer.
There is a good possibility that this method will not be terribly precise, depending on factors like server resources, user load and network distance. A more network-friendly approach would be to use a JavaBean that relies on the PC's system timer to track the passage of time, and calculates server time based on the observed time difference between PC & server.
Hope this helps,

• Counting records in a specific time block per day

I have a scenario where I need to find the number of records in a table called 'DEALS', for a specific time frame (in this case 8am until 9am where the date field stores dates in the following format '06/01/2005 08:23:35'). I need to run this query to include each business day between two dates (ie., june 1, 2005 until current_date).
In addition, this query has to take into account only Users that are ACTIVE in a second table called 'DEALUSERS'
I have worked out the following to get the overall record set, but it is not narrowed down to just the specified time frame, nor does it produce the count for each day's 8:00-9:00 time frame.
SELECT fdls.DEALDATE, user.USERROLE
FROM DEALS dls, DEALUSER user
WHERE dls.CLIENTUSERID = user.USERID
AND user.STATUS = 'ACTIVE'
AND dls.PROXYTRADEFLAG = 'YES'
AND dls.MODENAFLAG = 'YES'
AND TRUNC(dls.DEALDATE)
BETWEEN TO_DATE('06/01/2004 08:00:00', 'MM-DD-YYYY HH:MI:SS')
AND current_date
I tried using the following at the end of the above query, but it doesn't work - any ideas?
AND TO_CHAR(EXTRACT('HOUR' FROM DEALTS)) = '8'
Can someone help, pls :o

Not quite sure what you ultimately want here, but something like:
SELECT TRUNC(dls.dealdate, 'hh'), user.userrole, count(*)
FROM deals dls, dealuser user
WHERE dls.clientuserid = user.userid AND
user.status = 'ACTIVE' AND
dls.proxytradeflag = 'YES' AND
dls.modenaflag = 'YES' AND
dls.dealdate BETWEEN TO_DATE('06/01/2004 08:00:00', 'MM-DD-YYYY HH:MI:SS') AND current_date and
TO_CHAR(dls.dealdate, 'hh24') = '08'
GROUP BY TRUNC(dls.dealdate, 'hh'), user.userroleshould give you some ideas.

• Database retrieving records based on time stamp

Hello all,
I just want to know that SQL query to retrieve specific time stamp record from the database using SQL server will work when same query is executed using SQL execute query.vi in labview.
Its not working actually.
My query is,
SELECT * FROM table name where col_name between 'date/time 2012-12-13 10:48:00' and 'date/time 2012-12-13 10:55:00'
I am using mdb file. This date/time 2012-12-13 10:48:00 is first time stamp to be searched.. This is string comes from DB Tools format datetime string.vi
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.
I need my difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy my success.
--Ranjeet

A MS-Access query of a datetime field needs to be delimited wth the # (number sign / hash mark)
Something like:
SELECT * FROM table name where col_name between #2012-12-13 10:48:00# and #2012-12-13 10:55:00#
I've never used the between condition; I don't know if it will work reliably with Access. I would normally use >= and <= comparisons
Important: the # is specific to Access. We converted from Access to SQL Server in the last year and had to find all the places that used the "#' in our LabVIEW code and replace with a single quote.
Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T
If you don't hate time zones, you're not a real programmer.

• Proecure to be executed at specific time

Hi All,
I have created a procedure which will create table on top of data from another schema, but i want the procedure to be executed at midnight as there would be some udpates in database during the day until midnight. I want to create my tables on top of the database after updates have been commited. Is there anyway to achieve this task to execute my proecure by assigning a specific time?
Best Regards,
Lee

hi
We use DBMS_JOB.
But as I read, DBMS_SCHEDULER is a newer feature of ORacle. Can I do everything with scheduler, which I did with DBMS_JOB?
And can I reach scheduler logs? Finally are there any performance differences

• IOS7: "all-day, repeating" entry from all-day to a specific time.

Since upgrading to ios7 (iPhone 5, Verizon) when using the calendar I can't switch an "all-day, repeating" entry from all-day to a specific time. There's no "all-day" toggle switch. Does anyone know how to correct this? My friend has the 5s & AT&T and she doesn't have this problem. Hers shows a toggle switch!

I haven't completely discounted it but it seems like I would need to back up to files, then restore from files. I don't want to do that. I want a full file system level SAN snapshot that I can just drop into place. The does work when the production base is shut down. However, considering that I do have archive logs, shouldn't it be possible to use them to recover to a specific scene without having to do an RMAN backup at all? It seems that doing an RMAN backup/recovery would just make this whole process a lot longer since the DB is 160 gigs in size (not huge, but the dump would take more time than I would like). With a SAN snapshot, if I can get this to work, I'm looking at about a 15-20 minute period of time to move the production DB over to test.
Since you are suggesting that RMAN may be a better approach I'll provide more details about what I'm trying to do. Essentially this is like trying to recover a DB from a server that had its power plug pulled. I was hoping that Oracle's automatic recovery would do the same thing it would do in that instance. But obviously that doesn't work. What I want to do is bring over all the datafiles, redo logs, and archive logs using the SAN snapshot. Then if possible use some aspect of Oracle (RMAN if it can do it) to mount the database, then recover to a specific time or SCN if using RMAN. However, when I tried using RMAN to do it, I got an error saying that it couldn't restore the data file because it already existed. Since I don't want to start from scratch and have RMAN rebuild files that I've already taken snapshots of (needless copying of data), I gave up on the RMAN approach. But, if you know of a way to use RMAN so that it can recover to a specific incarnation without needing to runm a backup first, I am completely open to trying it.
